Opis:
This article is an Egyptological study of two funerary cones of the otherwise well known Theban official of the Twenty-sixth Dynasty, Padineith, majordomo of the Divine Consorts of Amun, who was buried in the tomb TT 197 on the Asasif cemetery. These two cones, however, were found in the structures of another Theban Tomb – MMA 1152 – turned into a hermitage by Christian monks – among objects, obviously brought back from peregrinations of these men all over through the Theban West Bank, most probably with intention to use them for some other secondary purpose.

The aim of the study was to assess the dynamicsof changes in the content of hop bitter acids during long-termstorage of cones that vary in maturity degree under differenttemperature conditions. The impact of the degree of maturityof hop cones on the stability of bitter acids during storage islittle known so far, and it is important, because due to the systematicincrease of the hop growing area on individual farms, thecone harvesting period is extended beyond the optimal phase oftechnological maturity. Hop cultivars belonging to two groupswere included in the study: bitter (Magnat, Magnum) and aroma(Puławski, Sybilla). Cones were collected on a few dates duringvegetation season, starting from the phase in which they reachedmaximum size until the beginning of physiological maturity.The dried cones were stored at +5 °C and +20 °C for 12 monthsand tested every three months for alpha and beta acid contentusing HPLC. Studies have shown that too early a hop harvestadversely affected bitter acid content. Storage temperature hadsignificant impact on the degradation of alpha and beta acids. Ata higher temperature the decrease in the content of these compoundswas greater. The tested hop cultivars were characterized bydifferent stability of bitter acids. The highest stability of alphaacids was observed for Sybilla, while the lowest for Magnat.The stability of alpha and beta acids during long-term storageof the raw material, especially at + 20oC, depended on the degreeof cones maturity. The aging rate of hop cones was not thesame throughout the storage period. For the first 3–6 months ata temperature of +5oC, the bitter acid content remained at a levelsimilar to the initial one, later a relatively rapid decrease in thecontent of these metabolites occurred. At higher temperatures,the bitter acid stabilization period was shorter.

We show that if the Radon transform of a distribution ƒ vanishes outside of an acute cone Co, the support of the distribution is contained in the union of Co and another acute cone C1, the cones are in a suitable position, and ƒ vanishes distributionally in the direction of the axis of C1, then actually supp ƒ C ⊂ Co. We show by examples that this result is sharp.

The paper presents results of studies on population variability of Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii [Mirb.] Franco) cones. The studies were based on statistical analysis of cone morphological characteristics, seed scales and bract of populations originating from 12 sites. The analysis proved morphological variability of cones and scales. They did not show geographical variation and did not clearly confirm their demographic variation. The edaphic conditions and genetic diversity were found to affect the demonstrated variability.

In North-East Poland, in the Riss Glaciation zone there occur hills of a characteristic conical shape. They have asymmetric slopes: one is usually short and steep, the opposite is longer and softer. They are connected with depressions left by blocks of dead ice and usually situated on the border of such basins. They are built of fluvioglacial deposits, sometimes with added ablation clays. They are formed through the accumulation of deposits into cones in large fissures of ice slopes. Their genesis is shown by their inner structure. All the layers originate in the culmination of the cone and thin out in accordance with the longer slope; the measurements of their dip direction indicate a fanshaped disposition of the directions of transport. By way of example two such forms have been described; they are situated in the western part of the Białystok Upland and in the North-East part of the Wysokie Mazowieckie Upland. Because of their morphometric and structural features they are called came cones (R. F. Flint 1957, A. Karczewski 1971, A. Musiał, K. Straszewska, M. Ziembińska-Tworzydło 1982, A. Musiał 1983).

The scale patterns of 6000 cones from one single tree of Pinus nigra Arn. have been examined. Apart from the main Fibonacci pattern with 8 and 13 parastichies, nine aberrant spiral patterns with Fibonacci-type sequences have been found. They are quite rare and occur with different frequencies. The parastichy quotient 8/13 of the prevalent pattern is very close to the golden ratio 0.618. In case of the black pine it appeared that the greater the deviation of the parastichy quotient m/n from 0.618, the rarer the pattern. Similar results obtained for the sample of 1506 cones collected from three individual trees of larch (Larix decidua Mill.) suggest a true correlation between the frequency of a pattern and the deviation of its parastichy quotient from the golden ratio.

The type collection of the lycopsid cone species Triplosporite brownii Unger was re-examined to assess its in situ spores. The cones are monosporangiate with only microspores that possess both cingulum and zona. They equate to the dispersed miospore genus Lycospora and would be identified as Lycospora cf. pseudoannulata. Therefore, the genus Triplosporite Brown is shown to be a junior synonym to Lepidostrobus and a species emendation is given. A comparison is given with the other Lepidostrobus cones which yielded similar in situ microspores of the Lycospora pellucida Group.

Opis:
Decision making with multiple criteria requires preferences elicited from the decision maker to determine a solution set. Models of preferences, that follow upon the concept of nondominated solutions introduced by Yu (1974), are presented and compared within a unified framework of cones. Polyhedral and nonpolyhedral, convex and nonconvex, translated, and variable cones are used to model different types of preferences. Common mathematical properties of the preferences are discussed. The impact of using these preferences in decision making is emphasized.

In this letter we suggest a new approach to the physical principles for hypercumulative plasma jet formation. This new approach leads to several new results which are of fundamental importance. The simulation results of hypercumulative plasma jet are discussed. It has been shown that the increase of the plasma jet speed in the suggested configuration is 25-30 % and the increase of jet pulse is more than 90 times which are not achievable in the classical cumulation.
