Opis:
W artykule przedstawiono metody badań umożliwiające ocenę elementów składowych izolatorów kompozytowych - materiałów osłonowych, rdzeni szkłoepoksydowych i powierzchni granicznych - decydujących o właściwościach elektrycznych izolatorów. Uwagę zwrócono również na metody przyspieszonych badań starzeniowych, w szczególności na badania odporności izolatorów na procesy starzeniowe rozwijające się w warunkach działania wysokiego napięcia oraz wody deszczowej i mgielnej. Przedstawiając osiągnięcia badawcze ośrodka wrocławskiego podkreślono celowość doskonalenia metod badawczych i stosowania w badaniach właściwych kryteriów oceny izolatorów.
Silicone rubber insulators produced nowadays have better and better properties as a result of intensive investigations conducted in many scientific centres in the world. Therefore they are more commonly used in transmission and distribution power lines. In this paper test methods enabling estimation of silicone rubber insulator components such as housing materials, glass-epoxy rods and boundary surfaces are presented. Chapter 2.1 of the paper is focused on standard tests of insulation materials. The first part of this chapter presents selected electric tests for determining the electric strength of insulation housing materials and tests of brittle cracking of glass-epoxy rods [18]. The second part presents long term ageing tests of insulation material (for example the long term test of water immersion). Chapter 2.2 deals with tests of rods and boundary surfaces. In the case of rods the most dangerous is unsealing the boundary surface between the fitting and housing, which is the result of water penetration along the rod [17]. The test of steep-front high voltage impulses allowing the detection of construction defects [26] is also presented. The High Voltage Laboratory of Wrocław University of Technology proposed the essential modifications of these tests. Chapter 3 of the paper is focused on accelerating ageing test of silicone rubber insulators. The tests in high voltage, clean fog and rain chambers that were elaborated in our High Voltage Laboratory are described. It is pointed out that the development of the new test methods of silicone rubber insulators results in better estimation of their properties.

Opis:
Suspension line insulators are during their operation subject to static forces and variable loads, usually of a cyclic character. These variable loads have a significant impact on the mechanical durability of composite insulators. A method of providing durability forecast for composite line insulators based on fatigue characteristics has been proposed. The method allows providing durability forecast of insulators in a wide range of variable loadings, i.e. from quasi-static to high amplitude loadings.

Opis:
Optimizing the aerodynamic structure of composite insulators can guarantee the safe operation of power systems. In this study, we construct a simulation model for composite insulator contaminant deposition using the COMSOL simulation software, and the rationality of the simulation model and method is verified through wind tunnel experiments. Taking the FXBW4-110/100 composite insulator as an example, we adopt a progressive optimization plan to explore the impacts of shed spacing s, and shed inclination angles α and β on its contaminant deposition characteristics under DC and AC voltages. Based on the numerical simulation results, we analyze the antifouling performance of insulators before and after structural optimization. The results indicate the following: 1) The contaminant deposition of the insulator under AC and DC voltages is negatively correlated with the shed spacing s, but positively correlated with the lower inclination angle β. 2) Under AC voltages, the contaminant deposition of the insulator increases with the upper inclination angle α, while under DC voltages, the contaminant deposition shows an uptrend first, then a downtrend and then an uptrend again with the increase of the upper inclination angle α. 3) Compared with the original model, the AC-optimized model ( α = 6°, β = 2° and s = 98 mm) with a larger shed spacing s, and smaller shed inclination angles α and β showed superior antifouling performance at wind speeds of no less than 2 m/s, and under the typical conditions ( v = 2.5 m/s, d = 20 μm, and ρ = 2 200 kg/m 3), its contaminant deposition is 15% less than that of the original model ( α = 10°, β = 2° and s = 80 mm).

Opis:
This article presents the results of an examination performed on a set of samples of glass-epoxy core rods used in composite insulators with silicone rubber housings. The goal of the examination was to test the aging resistance of the core material when exposed to Direct Current (DC) high voltage. Long term exposure of a glass-epoxy core rod to DC high voltage may lead to the gradual degradation of its mechanical properties due to the ion migrations. Electrolysis of the core material (glass fiber) may cause electrical breakdown of the insulators and consequently lead to a major failure. After being aged for 6000 hours under DC high voltage, the samples were subjected to microscopic analysis. Their chemical composition was also examined using Raman spectroscopy and their dielectric losses and conductance in the broad range of frequencies were tested using dielectric spectroscopy.

Opis:
The paper presents investigation of the properties of the surface and the material stiffness – flexibility of series of samples taken from the sheds of the composite insulators. The insulators were previously subjected to wheel test. The wheel test and 1000 h salt fog test are regarded as alternative examination of the material resistance to the effects of electrical surface discharges. There were investigated two series of the samples of the composite insulators sheds. Examined specimens, made of HTV silicone rubber, were taken from the sheds of medium-voltage composite insulators of two different manufacturers. Insulators of both types passed the 1000 h salt fog test without reservation. Meanwhile, the wheel test can provide a basis for better distinguishing between physical properties of the tested materials. In the case of the insulators of one of the manufacturers the wheel test result was negative. Cross puncture effect of the sheds took place in several places. In addition, sheds were covered with dark coating of varying thicknesses. The results of the study indicated a significantly stronger influence of electrical and temperature factors on the sheds under investigations during the wheel test than in the case of the 1000 h salt fog test. It can be stated that these tests cannot be considered as alternative and it seems that wheel test enables better distinguishing between properties of the materials.

Opis:
This paper describes results of tensile mechanical strength testing of two types of composite suspension line insulators from two manufacturers. In order to take into account the operation of composite insulators in overhead transmission lines with high-temperature low-sag (HTLS) conductors, the testing of their static and fatigue strength was performed at both ambient and elevated temperatures. The results showed that the static mechanical strength of composite insulators decreased with an increase in the temperature of the lower end fitting of the insulator, and proved that it followed a third-degree polynomial function. Calculations performed demonstrated that a significant cause of reduction in strength was the increase in the radial stress following the temperature increase in the crimped glassepoxy resin core of the insulator. The results of the fatigue strength testing demonstrated that the increase in the temperature of the lower end fitting of the insulator up to 85°C degree had a little effect on the fatigue strength of the tested composite insulators.
