    This article is an attempt to present the program of the „civilization of love” in the context of the cultural strategy implemented by John Paul II. The above strategy is aimed at, inter alia, against tendencies unfavourable for the Church. On the one thing, it is „humanism without God”, an „inauthentic culture” based on false ontology and anthropology. On the other hand, it is a contemporary globalized world, consumed by market ideology, an economism promoting consumer identity. According to John Paul II, there are essential elements of an „inauthentic culture”, of departing from God, promoting values without reference to transcendence. The culture of consumerism is a culture of subjective truths that implement individual and selfish social projects, negating the implementation of the Christian doctrine of the common good, the „civilization of love”.

    Przedstawione w pracy istotne elementy kultury mają podstawowe znaczenie w zrozumieniu kultury i cywilizacji. Wypracowanie postaw wobec tak ujętej kultury i cywilizacji zależy od edukacji, jej żądań, celów i priorytetów. Nauka, technika i technologia oraz sztuka przeniknięte wartościami wynikającymi z wartości absolutnych, uniwersalnych lub z systemów wartości opartych o religie tworzą kulturę lub cywilizacje przyjazną człowiekowi i naturze. Idea zrównoważonego rozwoju oraz cywilizacja miłości, zaproponowana w ostatecznym kształcie przez Jana Pawła II, jako cywilizacja pokoju i życia powinny być budowana z zachowaniem następujących zasad: pokoju, solidarności, sprawiedliwości, wolności, prawdy i miłości. Wymaga to zmiany paradygmatu rozwoju cywilizacyjnego i kulturowego ludzkości: z paradygmatu wojny i śmierci na paradygmat pokoju i życia.
    The elements of culture considered in this work are fundamental to our understanding of culture and civilization. The foundations of culture and civilization are education, tasks, aims and priorities. Science, technology and the arts (which are occupied with values that are the results of absolute or universal values) and religious systems create culture or civilizations which favour both humans and nature. Sustainable development and a civilization of love (proposed in its final form by Pope John Paul II as the civilization of peace and life) should be built by considering the following concepts: peace, solidarity, justice, freedom, truth and love. These demand a change in the paradigm of human development as it relates to civilization and culture: away from the paradigms of war and death and towards those of peace and life.

    The issue of social education has an important place in the teaching of the Church. In the pronouncements of the II Vatican Council the need for the formation of the basis of the constructive and responsible participation of children in social life has been noted. Such directions of education have been developed in the teaching after the Council. Even more strongly has it been underlined that the integral education of man demands formation towards the essential values of human life and a gradual introduction of children to responsibility for the formation of the civilization of love in the contemporary world.A large part of the pronouncements of the Church and of the Popes must be seen as the reaction to the changes taking place in the world. But, independently from the period of history, the Church has always underlined the irreplaceable and primary role of the family in the personal-social education of the child.

    The issue of the Civilization of Love and Truth that appears in the teaching of the pope Paul VI and John Paul II is deeply rooted in the teaching of the Second Vatican Council. The pope Paul VI used for the first time the expression “the Civilization of Love” in 1970. He pointed at love as the principle of human relationship and underlined its imperative character. The Civilization of Love inspired by spirituality of the Sacred Heart of Jesus reveals the truth about God and human being. John Paul II was one of the promoters of the Civilization of Love. He described its main features based on the four principals: priority of person before things, ethics before technique, “to be” before “to have”, mercy before justice. Love plays the fundamental role in this civilization. It determines the shape of various communities: the community of marriage, family, educational and professional communities. The Civilization of Love constitutes the antithesis of the civilization of death. John Paul II addressed his words especially to young people. He asked them to develop an integral concept of human being and proper hierarchy of values in various fields of social life. In the reach teaching of the pope John Paul II the Civilization of Love is bound up with the cult of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

    W refleksji nad przebaczeniem widzianym w świetle Bożego miłosierdzia zechcemy, by pójść następującą drogą: Był taki moment w dziejach człowieka, że przebaczenie nie było potrzebne (harmonia stworzenia). Człowiek zburzył tę relację przez złe wykorzystanie swej wolności (grzech pierworodny). Bóg nie pozostawił jednak człowieka samego i wyszedł ku niemu (przebaczenie w Chrystusie). Przebaczenie to jest dostępne (w Kościele) w sposób zwyczajny, sakramentalny (sakrament pokuty i pojednania) i nadzwyczajny (pozasakramentalny). Posiada konkretne skutki antropologiczne (nowy człowiek). Boże przebaczenie jest niezbędne, aby dokonało się przebaczenie w relacjach międzyludzkich (jedno serce).
    Undertaking the problem of forgiveness as something which every man needs from God, it is necessary to look upon it in the perspective of God’s Mercy as one of the elements of the process of salvation. Without doubt, we have to consider a man as the greatest fruit of God’s creation (not forgetting about ontological abyss), invited to friendship with God from the very moment of creation. Also, the original sin and its effects, as well as God’s Mercy revealed in the gift of the Only Son, cannot be forgotten. In Him we reach forgiveness – all of us who ask for it with faith and open heart. This forgiveness is realized in the framework of the New Covenant. It is accessible in the Church both in a regular (sacramental) and an extraordinary way. It leads to the creation of the new heart in us and it enables us to forgive each other in order to build the Civilization of Love. In that way, it reveals the truth that creation and redemption are correlated because redemption does not destroy the work of the Creator but the work of the tempter.

    Opis:
    In the teachings of John Paul II the category of parenthood, considered from a philosophical, religious, social, moral or cultural perspective, is always integrally connected with such concepts as marriage and family, fatherhood, motherhood and posterity. The meaning of these notions blends with the truth about man which has its roots in the human nature and its deeper meaning in the Christian Revelation. The Pope’s teaching in this respect may and should be interpreted in the light of Christian personalism, with special focus on two key notions – that of a person and a gift (the sincere gift of self). John Paul II devotes much attention to the issue of responsible parenthood, connected with the idea of the civilization of love, and education which can be viewed as continuation of parenthood. Education then is before all else a reciprocal “offering” on the part of both parents. The Pope sees the parental function as a service to life, which leads to revelation of life. This takes place in the family circle, envisioned as the “sanctuary of life”. He shares the observation that nowadays these sanctuaries of life not infrequently undergo deep and manifold crisis. Fatherhood and motherhood seem to be in the very centre of this crisis, especially due to profanation of family’s sacredness resulting from contraception, abortion, in vitro fertilization, divorces, sexual education devoid of ideals and the like. These sanctuaries of life are at times entirely devastated. Their dilapidation is a process intended by various international centres – numerous feminist, pro-abortion and gay organizations, just to mention some. Source materials which serve as a basis for presented reflections are first and fore most the following: The apostolic exhortation Familiaris consortio of November 22, 1981; the apostolic Letter Mulieris dignitatem of August 15, 1988; the letter to Families from Pope John Paul II Gratissimam sane of February 2, 1994 and the encyclical Evangelium vitae of March 25, 1995. Attached to the abovementioned documents is also 1983 Charter of the Rights of the Family, aimed especially at the countries, organisations and institutions responsible for the situation of the family in today’s world.

    Czy nabożeństwo i kult Najświętszego Serca Pana Jezusa są wciąż aktualne w misji Kościoła? Próbą odpowiedzi na to pytanie jest tekst Boże Serce w misterium swojego otwarcia na współczesny świat. Biblijne ujęcie słowa „serce” ma zasadniczo znaczenie symboliczne i przenośne. Wielokrotnie występuje w połączeniu ze słowem „miłość” zarówno w odniesieniu do Boga, jak i człowieka. Wcielony Bóg, Słowo Ojca, stał się prawdziwym człowiekiem o kochającym sercu i odkupił świat. Serce Jezusa przebite włócznią żołnierza na krzyżu jest wciąż otwarte na współczesność przez swoją miłość. Szczególne miejsce pod tym względem zajmuje szerzenie idei społecznego królestwa Serca Jezusa oraz cywilizacji miłości.
    Is the reverence and cult of the Sacred Heart of Jesus still topical in the mission of the Church? The text „God’s Heart in the mystery of its opening to the modern world” is an attempt to answer the question above. Biblical depiction of the word „heart” has basically symbolic and allegoric meaning. Repeatedly this word appears in connection with the word „love” both in regard to God and human. Incarnated God, the Word of the Father, became truly human with the loving heart and he redeemed the world. The Heart of Jesus pierced with the soldier’s spear on the cross is still open to the present day with his love. A special place in this regard is given to spreading the idea of the social kingdom of the Heart of Jesus and the civilization of love.

    Kult Najświętszego Serca Jezusowego obfituje w różne środki wyrazu, którymi są wielorakie formy pobożności. Wśród nich na szczególne uznanie zasługuje akt poświęcenia Bożemu Sercu, który w swojej treści i formie odnosi się do istoty tego kultu. Poświęcenie Najświętszemu Sercu Jezusa – zarówno w wymiarze wewnętrznym, jak również zewnętrznym – ukierunkowuje człowieka na miłość Boga i prowadzi do podporządkowania jego woli, woli Stwórcy. Zewnętrznym tego wyrazem i jednocześnie owocem aktu poświęcenia są czyny miłości wobec Boga i wobec bliźniego, zarówno w wymiarze personalnym, jak też w wymiarze społecznym – czyli troski o budowanie cywilizacji miłości.
    Cult of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is full of various spiritual expressions and forms of piety. Among them particularly worthy of underlining is act of offering to the Heart of Jesus, which in its essence and form touches the very core of that cult. Self-offering to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, both in its internal and external dimension, directs one towards the love of God and leads one towards the subornation to God’s will, the will of the Creator. The external expressions of these and at the same time the fruits of the act of offering are the deeds of love aimed at God and the neighbor, both in the personal and social dimension, or in other words our concern for building of the civilization of love.

    In this article the author presents certain aspects of pastoral work with youth, describing young people’s reality and the dynamic of pastoral work in Latin America, as well as certain aspects of pastoral work with youth for an “outward-reaching” Church. Criteria are indicated for the pastoral accompaniment of Latin American young people today, from a model of Church which Pope Francis has denominated “outward-reaching” (or “going forth”). This model challenges us to rethink pastoral work with youth, situating it in the horizon of the path of pastoral action in the perspective of Aparecida, which allows us to “deeply rethink and relaunch [the Church’s] mission in current Latin American and global circumstances with fidelity and audacity” (DA 11). This requires that the Church show its readiness to appreciate, value and encourage pastoral initiatives and processes that are developing “outside” of explicit parochial spheres, so as to immerse itself in the missionary adventure towards and into spaces where young people are on the margins. Without doubt this means reconsidering the forms in which parochial and wider ecclesial life is organized. This challenge implies leaving behind pre-designed blueprints in order to meet young people there where they are, in the majority of cases outside the Church, adapting to their times and rhythms. This paper presents four nuclear problems posed by CELAM (Latin American Episcopal Council) for 2015–2019 (social injustice, the deterioration of creation, violence and migration), which question the Church in its evangelizing task and open a challenging panorama for an “outward reaching” pastoral work with youth. Missionary activity which takes these four nuclear problems seriously lets arise a “new subject who emerges in history and which we call disciple” (DA 243), an active member of the Church and a citizen capable of making a significant contribution to society. It becomes obvious that pastoral work with youth in the service of the spreading the Good News isn’t under discussion, but rather is launched with the aim that the light of Christ shine on the faces of the poor and the reality of our peoples. A new model opens up for an “outward reaching” pastoral work with youth, centred in the following of Christ and at the service of life, that is to say with greater impact on society.
    En el artículo el autor presenta algunos aspectos de la Pastoral Juvenil (PJ), describiendo la realidad juvenil y la dinámica pastoral desde América Latina. Vienen también presentados algunos aspectos de la PJ para una “Iglesia en salida” y se indica los criterios para un acompañamiento pastoral a los jóvenes latinoamericanos hoy, desde el modelo de Iglesia que el papa Francisco ha denominado “en salida” y que nos desafía a repensar la PJ ubicándola en el horizonte de la reforma eclesial que este pontificado viene impulsando. Se trata de buscar e encontrar el camino de la pastoral en la perspectiva de Aparecida, que permita “repensar profundamente y relanzar con fidelidad y audacia la misión [de la Iglesia] en las nuevas circunstancias latinoamericanas y mundiales” (DA 11). Esto requiere de la Iglesia mostrar su disponibilidad a apreciar, valorar y alentar las iniciativas y procesos pastorales que están en desarrollo “fuera” del ámbito explícito de las parroquias, para insertarse en aventura misionera hacia y dentro de las periferias juveniles y sin duda esto supone un replanteamiento de las formas de organizar la vida parroquial y eclesial más amplia. Este reto exige salir de los propios esquemas pre-confeccionados, para encontrar a los jóvenes allí donde están, es decir en mayoría de los casos fuera de la Iglesia, adecuándose a sus tiempos y a sus ritmos. En el texto vienen presentados cuatro núcleos problemáticos que plantea el CELAM para el cuatrienio 2015–2019 (la injusticia social, el deterioro de la creación, la violencia y el flujo migratorio), que interpelan a la Iglesia para su tarea evangelizadora y abren un panorama desafiante para una Pastoral Juvenil “en salida”. Con la acción misionera que toma en serio estos cuatro núcleos se está formando, “un sujeto nuevo que surge en la historia y al que llamamos discípulo” (DA 243), miembro activo de la Iglesia y ciudadano capaz de incidir significativamente en la sociedad. Es evidente, entonces, que una PJ evangelizadora, no se discute, sino se la pone en camino, trabajando para lograr que la luz de Jesucristo ilumine los rostros de los pobres y la realidad de nuestros pueblos. Se abre pues una nuevo modelo para la PJ “en salida”, centrado en el seguimiento de Cristo y al servicio de la vida, es decir, con mayor incidencia en la sociedad.
