Opis:
The Ni – base superalloys are used in aircraft industry for production of aero engine most stressed parts, as are turbine blades or turbine discs. The most stressing factor at Ni – base superalloys loading or working conditions are high temperature range of 700°C up to 850°C and, of course, centrifugal forces, and small vibrations, which produce bending of turbine blades inserted into turbine discs. All these factors cause various forms of microstructure degradation closely connected with decreasing of mechanical properties and shortening of working life as well. From this reason a dendrite arm spacing, carbides size and distribution, morphology, number and value of γ’ - phase are very important structural characteristics for blade lifetime prediction as well as aero engine its self. In this article are used methods of quantitative metallography for evaluation of structural characteristics mentioned above on experimental materials – Ni base superalloys ŽS6K and Inconel IN 738. The high temperature effect represented here by heat treatment at 800°C for 10 hours, and cooling rate, here represented by three various cooling mediums as water, air, and oil, on structural characteristics and application of quantitative methods evaluation with using of SEM are presented in this paper.

Opis:
Reliability of power converter in the electric drivetrain of a vehicle can be a criterion for the comparison of various converter topologies, cooling system designs and control strategies. Therefore, reliability prediction is important for the design and control of vehicles. This paper presents an approach for quantitative evaluation of the reliability of converters for multiphase motor drives for electric vehicles (EVs) after considering the driving cycle. This paper provides a good background of reliability quantification so that it is easy to extend the presented approach to other applications. The models of subsystems have been selected to have excellent computational efficiency with good accuracy which is necessary for simulating long driving cycles. A simple vehicle model is used to obtain the traction motor torque demand for various points of the driving cycle. A multiphase interior permanent magnet synchronous motor has been used for traction motor. The operating voltage and currents of the motor are found using maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control of IPMSM. The analytical loss calculation has been used to find the losses of switching devices of the converter. A thermal model of silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFET has been used to calculate junction temperature from the losses. The model developed here gives the failure rate and mean time between failures (MTBF) of switching devices of the inverter, which can be used to determine the failure rate. The model has been used to find the transition probabilities of a Markov model which can be used to quantify the reliability of converters of multiphase electric drives.

Opis:
Due to its durability, tungsten carbide has long been used as a material to produce dental burs. WC–Co burs are designed for smooth, efficient cutting and extended life. Dental burs are available in different sizes and shapes, for example round burs, pear and cylinder-shaped, egg-shaped, as well as there are various tapered ones, which enable an individual selection of the drill for the right treatment. Carbides can be used for standard crowns and bridges, for extensive surgical procedures and they should minimize damage to the existing teeth. The design of WC-Co dental bur reduces a patient’s discomfort because of the operating time and the fact that its liquidity is preserved. The head of the bur (the cutting edge) delivers optimum concentricity and strength. The shank is made from stainless steel allowing a bur to be autoclaved multiple times without the risk of corrosion. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the wear of a tungsten carbide dental bur. The results of stereoscopy microscope and SEM/EDS analysis are presented.

This work presents the evaluation of wear resistance of milling cutters. The subjects of this chapter were the milling tools commonly used in dental laboratory. Based on the results it was found, that the milling cutter during the cutting operation can easily become the destruction, resulting in the mass loss and in the first 10 hours of milling cutters work with high efficiency. It is suggested that after 10 hours of milling work, in order to ensure high standards of materials processing, milling cutters should be replaced by new one.

Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) is identified as a suitable technique to prepare the alumina titanium carbide composite to overcome the difficulty in fabricating it through other consolidation method. The present work focuses on the fabrication and characterization of a series of titanium carbide reinforced alumina ceramic composites using a spark plasma sintering process. The titanium carbide reinforcement on the alumina matrix is varied between 20 and 35 wt.%, in order to improve the electrical conductivity and fracture toughness of the composites. The particle size of the starting powders at received and ball milled conditions was analysed through Particle size analyser and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Microstructural analysis revealed that the TiC reinforcement is uniformly dispersed in the sintered composite. XRD report showed that α-alumina and titanium carbide were the two dominant phases without the formation of any reaction phases. Further, the correlation between mechanical and physical properties of the prepared composite was investigated as a function of TiC. Various fracture toughening indicators like crack deflection, bridging and branching were analysed by Vicker’s indentation method. Electrical resistivity of the sintered compact decreases proportionally with the increase in titanium carbide constituents. Maximum density (98.80%) and hardness (20.56 GPa) was obtained for 30 wt. % reinforced composite. Almost 40% improvement in fracture toughness is noted for 25 wt. % reinforced composite. This work demonstrates the synthesis and fabrication of alumina titanium carbide composites at low temperature via SPS resulted in obtaining an intact compact with improved mechanical and electrical properties.

Przedstawiono wyniki badań intensywności zużycia nowoczesnych materiałów konstrukcyjnych w naturalnych warunkach glebowych. Do badań przyjęto próbki wykonane ze stali borowej, stali trudnościeralnej, napoiny wieloskładnikowej oraz próbki z węglikiem wolframu. Warstwę wieloskładnikową oraz węglik nałożono na stal 38GSA. Doświadczenie przeprowadzono w piasku luźnym na specjalnie skonstruowanym stanowisku badawczym. Celem eksperymentu było określenie zużycia masowego poszczególnych materiałów w odniesieniu do drogi tarcia. Przeprowadzone badania wykazały istotną różnicę wartości zużycia pomiędzy materiałami.
The research findings on the intensity of modern construction materials wear in natural soil conditions were presented. Samples made of boric steel, abrasion resistant steel, multi -component padding weld and tungsten carbide samples were accepted for the experiment. Multi-component layer and carbide were applied on the 38GSA steel. The experiment was performed on the loose sand on a specially constructed research station. The purpose of the experiment was to determine the mass wear of individual materials with reference to sliding distance. The research revealed an essential difference in wearing values between materials.
