Opis:
Adaptive designs are used in phase III clinical trials for skewing the allocation pattern towards the better treatments. We use optimum design theory to provide a skewed biased-coin procedure for sequential designs with continuous responses. The skewed designs are used to provide adaptive designs, the performance of which is studied numerically for designs with three treatments. Important properties are loss and the proportion of allocation to inferior treatments. Regularisation to provide consistent parameter estimates greatly improves both these properties.

Opis:
A Hellinger-Reissner variational principle is introduced to derive the weak form equation of thin generally orthotropic laminates. It leads naturally to a mixed finite-element approximation that has the out-of-plane deflection and the bending and twisting moments as independent unknowns. A triangular element is derived that is used for both analysis and optimization purposes. Numerical simulations on example laminates of irregular geometry are presented to validate the theoretical framework.

The tilting index table has attached to CNC machining center with 3axes, it can be improvement of its performance and its machining efficiency. The tilting index table is a key unit in order to manufacture some non-rotational and 3-dimensional parts, using the conventional machining center. The tilting index table is directly connected to a processing object. Regarding the increase in the deflection of the table, it directly affects processing objects and increases errors and that makes impossible to obtain desired processing precision. Thus, this study performed the shape optimization of air pockets in order to minimize the deflection presented in the existing table. In the numerical optimizing method for implementing optimal design, the general full factorial design and response surface method in the design of experiments were used. A finite element analysis was used for computational experiments in which the finite element analysis was performed by using the ANSYS Workbench, which is a type of commercial FEM tool. In addition, the analysis of the results was performed by using the commercial program, Minitab 15. The results show that the optimum design results is better than those of the initial design.

In this paper, we applied Geometric programming in the design of a standard laboratory for students’ practical work in the Federal University of Technology Owerri. The laboratory has a capacity of 1,357 seats thereby containing 1357 students with the following dimensions: design length is 644.3m; design width is 337.8m and design height is 217.7m. The laboratory would cost the university authority a minimum of 915,875.2 naira to construct.

Opis:
To have an effective development among the isolated, remote areas, rural transportation is recognized as a key factor. Efficient rural transportation depends largely on a well-knit road network to provide accessibility and mobility in rural areas. This work affords an applied method for the development of rural road networks in rural areas of developing countries. The proposed methodology enables to determine nodal points in the rural road network based on the facility index of the settlements. The rural road network is generated by connecting the nodal points by minimum travel time path in Geographical Information System (GIS). Spatial analysis is carried out in the study area to identify the Desirable Coverage Distance of the Facility(DCDF). The Village Facility Index (VFI) is calculated by considering the desirable coverage distance. The suggested methodology is simple and practical, hence, highly applicable to real-world scenarios, as demonstrated in the definition of the road network for the rural areas.

Opis:
We consider the numerical solution of structural optimization problems in CFD where the state variables are supposed to satisfy a linear or nonlinear Stokes system and the design variables are subject to bilateral pointwise constraints. Within a primal-dual setting, we suggest an all-at-once approach based on interior-point methods. The discretization is taken care of by Taylor-Hood elements with respect to a simplicial triangulation of the computational domain. The efficient numerical solution of the discretized problem relies on path-following techniques, namely a continuation method with an adaptive choice of the continuation step size, a long-step path-following algorithm and a nonlinear version of Mehrotra's algorithm. The performance of the suggested methods is documented by several illustrative numerical examples.

In this study, rubber seed/shea butter oil was used to formulate core oil. The formulated core oil was characterised. D-optimal mixture design was used for multi response optimisation of the functional properties of rubber seed-shea butter coil oil. Desirable values for some responses might be obtained from a factor combination while for others responses not so desirable values. Through multiple response optimisations, a factor setting that gives the desirable values for all responses was obtained. The selected optimum mixture setting for the formulated core oil is 65.937% Rubber seed and 34.063% Shea butter oil at desirability of 0.924. Under the optimum condition the functional properties of the core oil was found to be 39.57KN/M2, 626.85KN/M2, 36.63KN/M2, 593.906KN/M2, 412.605 and 167.309s for Green Compressive Strength, Dry Compressive Strength, Green Tensile Strength, Dry Tensile Strength, Permeability and Collapsibility respectively. The optimum conditions were validated with less than 0.2% error. The functional properties of the formulated core oil was compared to the functional properties of linseed core oil. It was found that rubber seed-shea butter core oil can be used for producing cores suitable for Aluminium casting.
