Opis:
PURPOSE: The purpose of the following paper is to analyze and empirically verify the monetary theory of business cycles as a mechanism for the interaction of the dynamics of production and money supply based on the example of the Polish economy. In order to identify and mitigate the risk of economic fluctuations as a function of the response of the central bank, it is necessary to conduct an extensive analysis of the indirect mechanism of transmission of monetary impulses on production in the economy. DESIGN/METHOD: Empirical analysis was carried out by estimating a macroeconometric time series model taking into account the inductive information based on the Keynesian theory the structural vector-autoregressive SVAR model. The stochastic process included in the study was based on statistical data of Poland, which were obtained from the cyclical reports: ‘Preliminary estimate of gross domestic product’ and ‘Quarterly accounts of gross domestic product in 2017-2021’, Poland’s Central Statistical Office and the National Bank of Poland's databases for the time interval of 2007.Q1-2022.Q2. RESULTS/FINDINGS: The applied empirical analysis positively verified the existence of an indirect monetary impulse transmission mechanism in Poland’s economy. The obtained research has positively verified the compatibility of the monetary theory of the business cycle in terms of the Keynesian theory with the macroeconomic reality in Poland. The results of the research justify the measures to mitigate the risk of economic instability and impose a requirement for discretionary policy by the National Bank of Poland. ORIGINALITY/VALUE: The following work addresses an important element of the macroeconomic analysis, specifically the monetary theory of the business cycle. The originality of the work stems from the empirical attempt to verify the monetary theory of the business cycle taking into account the indirect mechanism of transmission of monetary impulses on the grounds of the statistical data from the Polish economy.

Opis:
Changes in the social paradigm, technological and digital trends, as well as the negative impacts of the macro environment are also reflected in changes in retail business models, which are becoming a multi-channel means of value creation. The aim of the present paper is to identify and examine the implementation of selected retail activities as a value carrier for retail establishment model identification, and subsequent segmentation and profiling of retail establishments. The paper is supported by primary research on a sample of 246 retail outlet managers using inquiry (semi-structured interviews) in Bratislava. The collected data were processed using descriptive and inductive statistics as well as higher statistical methods (EFA, CA). The results suggest five key areas in business model design, namely supply chain; online or digital world; communication and price; geo-marketing and customer satisfaction. Based on the above factors, three homogeneous groups of retail outlets can be identified.
Wyniki sugerują pięć kluczowych obszarów projektowania modeli biznesowych, a mianowicie: łańcuch dostaw; świat online (cyfrowy); komunikacja i cena; geomarketing oraz satysfakcja klienta. Na podstawie zidentyfikowanych czynników można wyróżnić trzy jednorodne grupy punktów sprzedaży detalicznej.

Purpose – The aim of this article is to identify the issues of short food supply chains (SFSCs) in three countries of Central and Eastern Europe, i.e. Lithuania, Latvia and Poland, to compare the barriers to shortening food supply chains and to indicate business models for short supply chains. Design/methodology/approach – Within the AgroBRIDGES project, the authors organized local co-creation workshops from August to September 2021 in 12 European regions and countries, engaging 150þ agrifood stakeholders of the project’s local communities. Findings – The development potential of SFSCs in Lithuania, Latvia and Poland is high and seems to be growing every year. Currently, the development potential of SFSCs in Lithuania, Latvia and Poland is stimulated more by social trends than by public support. Traditional business models based on the distribution of food products through local and regional markets have a definitely diminishing potential. Research limitations/implications – Although this article covers an existing gap in the literature, it also has several limitations that may serve as an inspiration for future research. First, the results draw on a sample of agrifood value chain stakeholders in Lithuania, Latvia and Poland; hence, the findings might be industry specific. Therefore, future studies should explore this topic on wider target groups or different industries. Moreover, the method is qualitative and could be supplemented with additional quantitative analysis of similar tools or the experience of other agrifood companies from European countries. Practical implications – The article seeks to build bridges between consumers and producers by supporting SFSCs through a systemic, holistic and multi-actor approach. Originality/value – The study elaborates on the under-researched topic of SFSCs in the context of barriers to shortening food supply chains and business models for short supply chains in Lithuania, Latvia and Poland.

Opis:
Aim: A theoretical understanding of the process, causal linkages, and dynamics of creating shared value (CSV) is largely missing in the field of shared value creation and sustainable development. Hence, this research is explorative by nature and aims to contribute to theory building in this field. First, we collect empirical data and analyze it, to better understand how the shared value creation process in energy cooperatives works. Second, we present a first causal model of the dynamics and relationships between values, actors and cooperation, which needs to be further tested and refined. Design: First, we collect empirical data and analyze it, to better understand how the shared value creation process in energy cooperatives works. Second, we present a first causal model of the dynamics and relationships between values, actors and cooperation, which needs to be further tested and refined. This research was executed by conducting eight case studies in Belgium and Dutch energy cooperatives. Stemming from different countries, they are all moving towards new business models and provide insights about different institutional contexts. Findings: The findings show how a variety of values, more actors, and increased cooperation lead to (more) shared value creation. However, these relations are moderated by members’ differing needs, the involvement of the members, and characteristics of the organizational context. Additionally, new influential variables are discovered: professionalization and institutional context. Limitations: More (experimental) research is needed to exclude alternative causal explanations, as well as and to test and refine the model. Implications: This study provides a direction for testing the causal linkages found with other research designs and methods or in other organizational contexts. Additionally, the causal model could give practitioners and researchers insights into which variables to manipulate to get more or less shared value. Contributions: This study uniquely contributes to the knowledge of the concept of shared value creation to ultimately reach sustainable development by combining detailed insights into the value creation process with a comprehensive ready-to-test causal model. Opis:
The article addresses three challenges in the M&A theory and practice: poor value orientation, lack of integrated approach to an acquisition process, and limited integration scope. It integrates the existing literature reviewing existing models as well as the author's merger experience. This paper proposes a novel acquisition framework addressing the challenges and gaps in the M&A value-creation process. The framework emphasises the role of corporate strategy as the key value creation formula in setting the right context for a merger. It also reiterates the importance of a performance management system assuring accountability and alignment at every stage of a merger including two new process stages. The model also offers a novel perspective on merger integration challenging the traditional approach and promoting earlier initiation of integration efforts. The paper also demonstrates, through a business case, a practical application of the proposed framework by a serial acquirer.
Artykuł dotyczy trzech wyzwań w literaturze i praktyce M&A, tj. słabej orientacji na kreowanie wartości, braku zintegrowanego, a także zbyt wąskiego podejścia do procesu integracyjnego. Zaproponowano nowatorskie spojrzenie analityczno-biznesowe, wychodząc naprzeciw powszechnym wyzwaniom w kreowaniu wartości w procesie akwizycyjnym. Artykuł prezentuje praktyczne zastosowanie modelu poprzez business case.

Opis:
Value creation is indispensable in enhancing agribusiness performance. However, there is a need to identify priority areas to unlock industry potential. The study sought to highlight particular areas within the  Zimbabwean pork industry where value creation could offer the industry advantage. A survey of 24 pork butchers, 6 pork processors and 166 pig farmers from Mashonaland Central Province was utilised in the study. Descriptive statistics, correlation, ANOVA and multiple regression were used to analyse the data. The results highlighted that the industry regarded value creation through advantage in the acquisition of inputs, goods and services, production/processing, and logistics, which consequently makes those key target areas. Furthermore, the created value (profit/cost ratio) was influenced by the category of agribusiness, distance to markets, business practice and socio-economic dynamics of the business decision-makers. In conclusion, production and processing, as well as inbound logistics, were identified to be less effective in value creation. However, increasing transportation advantage will likely improve value. The study recommends that the pork industry leverage on production/processing, inbound logistics and transportation. Policy implications relate to the creation of a conducive environment in input procurement and transportation. The study adds insights for business strategy and policy formulation, aiding in enhancing turnover and strategic positioning

Opis:
The subject of activities of entities pursuing social and economic goals has recently become very popular. Social entrepreneurship is focused on activities in which the economic role does not play a major role but innovative solutions to social problems. The paper aims to show what constitutes the value in business models for social enterprises and which elements of these models generate it. The value-based approach to the business model was used to find how the value is created and distributed in social enterprises. Empirical research was carried out based on case studies obtained from direct interviews. The novelty is to consider the value in relation to the elements of the business model, additionally, divided into three areas: value proposition, value creation and delivery, and value capture. In each area, the understanding of value was defined, and the elements creating this value in business models for social enterprises were identified, i.e. the unique character of offered services being the premise of generated income, involvement in supporting human capital and cooperation of social enterprise with stakeholders.

The objective of this paper is to create indicators to classify the relationship between business model and business strategy in productive systems and to develop a table as an artifact for automatic classification. A literature review of “business models”, “business strategies” and “value” was used to legitimize pertinent questions about the terms. To conduct this research, a qualitative descriptive exploratory approach with content analysis was used, through interviews with semi-structured script conducted with executives of companies in Brazil and Poland. The multiple case study was applied to identify similarities and dissimilarities in the way companies relate their business models and their business strategies, in order to build the indicators and use the table, which analyses each company's business model. and identify which business blocks the strategies are applied to. Among the results, it can be highlighted that the unification of the individual strategies of each pillar of the Business Model Canvas, when grouped together, represent the relationships between business models and business strategies of various production systems, besides analyzing the relationship between theory and business practice.
Celem tego artykułu jest stworzenie wskaźników do klasyfikacji relacji między modelem biznesowym a strategią biznesową w systemach produkcyjnych oraz opracowanie tabeli jako artefaktu do automatycznej klasyfikacji. Przegląd literatury dotyczący „modeli biznesowych”, „strategii biznesowych” i „wartości” posłużył do uzasadnienia istotnych pytań dotyczących terminów. The purpose of the study was to investigate how some micro-business entrepreneurs and bricoleurs experience their learning processes through workshops, especially with respect to sustainability issues. This qualitative and explorative study focuses on learning processes during the GreenBizz course, which are analysed on the basis of inquiries and observations of discussions among course participants and on documents describing the course design and assignments. It was found that entrepreneurs are aware and are familiar with sustainability issues but they have neither proper tools nor the knowhow for implementing sustainable changes in their businesses. To be successful, the learning process needs to sufficiently heterogeneous, should involve the transmission of tacit knowledge and provide opportunities for participants to learn about their motivations and should include both theoretical and practical elements. Participation in the course enables entrepreneurs to network with other entrepreneurs, give support and share knowledge about sustainable solutions in their businesses. The study shows that such courses not only must allow for a certain degree of flexibility but also require a course or team leader with a solid and practical knowledge in entrepreneurship and sustainability.

Opis:
Contemporary economics is dominated by logical positivism, a methodology that emphasizes empirical validation of theories but excludes normative evaluation. Preclassical economics was premised on normative analysis. With the growing socialist movement in the USA, especially among the millennials, who are fixated on moral issues of justice and equality, positive economics is alienated from addressing the normative challenges of socialism. There are, however, basic normative principles from Preclassical thought which can be used to contest socialist moral claims, particularly in economics education.
