Opis:
The paper presents the strategy for identifying the shape of defects in the domain defined in the boundary value problem modelled by the nonlinear differential equation. To solve the nonlinear problem in the iterative process the PIES method and its ad-vantages were used: the efficient way of the boundary and the domain modelling and global integration. The identification was performed using the genetic algorithm, where in connection with the efficiency of PIES we identify the small number of data required to the defect’s definition. The strategy has been tested for different shapes of defects.

Opis:
So-called "stiffness operator" for boundary problems of structural analysis is introduced in the distinctive paper. There is a direct analogy between this stiffness operator and corresponding stiffness matrix of the considering structure in terms of finite element method. Namely we can consider stiffness operator as a limiting (continual) generalization of stiffness matrix. The explicit formulation of stiffness operator is presented. Several new variational formulations are discussed as well.

In this paper, we study nonlinear second order differential inclusions with a multivalued maximal monotone term and nonlinear boundary conditions. We prove existence theorems for both the convex and nonconvex problems, when $domA ≠ ℝ^{N}$ and $domA = ℝ^{N}$, with A being the maximal monotone term. Our formulation incorporates as special cases the Dirichlet, Neumann and periodic problems. Our tools come from multivalued analysis and the theory of nonlinear monotone operators.

Opis:
The paper introduces a parametric integral equation system (PIES) for solving 2D boundary problems defined on connected polygonal domains described by the Navier-Lame equation. Parametric linear functions were applied in the PIES to define analytically the polygonal subregions' interfaces. Only corner points and additional extreme points on the interface between the connected subregions are posed to practically define a polygonal domain. An important advantage of this approach is that the number of such points is independent of the area of identically shaped domains due to the elimination of traditional elements from modeling, the number of those elements being dependent on the domain's surface area. In order to test the reliability and effectiveness of the proposed method, test examples are included in which areas of displacements and stresses are analyzed in each subregion.

Opis:
The paper presents an original method to identify polygonal boundary geometry in 2D boundary problems defined by Laplace's equation using a parametric integral equation system (PIES). In the PIES, the polygonal boundary shape is defined mathematically by means of parametric linear segments, with a small number of corner points being posed. Identification of the polygonal boundary is reduced to identification of the corner points. Finally, the solution of the problem is reduced to the solution of a non-linear system of algebraic equations. Coordinates of identified corner points are obtained after solving the system of equations.

Opis:
The following book deals with various boundary value problems for differential equations. As Juliusz Schauder, one of the pioneers and unsurpassed masters (at least for the author), used to say, the most important thing is to know the methods, not the theorems. Thus, we are interested in a set of methods of Nonlinear Analysis applied to such boundary value problems. Since we want to avoid the difficulties associated with partial equations (already the theory of linear partial differential equations requires the use of subtle concepts and tools of Functional Analysis), we choose examples showing applications of the above-mentioned methods among ordinary differential equations. We are interested in nonlinear equations, but the boundary conditions we discuss are usually linear. By boundary conditions, we mean here any additional equations that the solutions of the differential equation are expected to satisfy. Such additional conditions are necessary if we want to have one (or more) solutions - after all, a given differential equation has infinitely many solutions. These additional conditions may be initial conditions, conditions to be satisfied by the function at the extremes of the domain (boundary conditions), but they may also be multipoint or, more broadly, nonlocal e.g. when there is an integral of the solution in the equation. On the other hand, the wealth of methods of nonlinear analysis is so great that we emphasize a certain set of methods (mainly topological) preferred by the author. The examples on which we present applications of these methods are in majority taken from the work of the research team that consists of the author and his former PhD students. Thus, this survey is not a monograph of the subject in a strict sense, which is reflected in the first word of the title "Selected".

In this paper four algorithms of methods of approximate solution of the two-point boundary value problem for the equation - u” + g(x)u = f(x) are given and compared. The finite difference, collocation, finite element and collocation-Galerkin methods are considered. Numerical results are presented. For sufficiently regular functions u,f and g the finite difference method is the most effective.

In the paper the existence of a solution to the thress-dimensional elastoplastic problem with the Prandtl-Reuss constitutive law and the Neumann boundary conditions is established. The proof is based on a suitable combination of the parabolic regularization of equations and the penalty method for the elastoplastic yield condition. The method is applied in the case of the domain with smooth boundary as well as in the case of an interior crack. It is shown that the weak solutions to the elastoplastic problem satisfying the variational inequality meet all boundary conditions.
