Objective. Scientific reports provide information concerning an insufficient level of physical activity of societies. The objective of the study is recognition of the level of physical activity among Ukrainian students, and factors which condition this activity: gender, place of residence, self-reported physical fitness, and the BMI. Methods. The study was conducted in 2013 among 2,125 Ukrainian students using a long version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), supplemented with data concerning the respondents’ physical development. Results. The results of the study showed that the mean total physical activity of students was 3.560 MET, and its highest percentage pertained to the area of activity in sports – 1.124 MET. Significantly higher statistically physical activity was observed among males than females. In males, the highest activity was related to participation in sports classes, while in females – engagement in household chores. It was found that males, compared to females, were significantly more physically active in such areas as occupational activity (education) and sports activity, whereas females showed higher activity performing household chores. According to the place of residence, inhabitants of medium-size towns and rural areas obtained the most favourable results in activity, while the inhabitants of large cities the poorest. Self-reported physical fitness was significantly correlated with the results in physical activity obtained by the students. No relationship was found between the BMI and the level of student’s physical activity. Conclusion. Considering the very large population of respondents, the results obtained may be considered as an up-todate pattern of physical activity among Ukrainian students.

Opis:
Background. In recent years, the subject literature has provided concrete recommendations concerning health with regard to specific parameters. Therefore, it is necessary to indicate appropriate physical activity standards for proper development at various stages of human ontogenesis. Objective. The aim of the work was knowledge of the level of physical activity of high school youth in the Visegrad countries, including gender indications, to demonstrate whether the WHO recommendations are fulfilled. Material and methods. The research was conducted in students from four Visegrad countries: the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary. As the research method, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire − IPAQ in the extended version was used. Results. Boys seem to do much better and have largely fulfilled the WHO recommendation for high-intensity efforts performed 3 times for 20 minutes, and medium and high efforts − 7 times for 60 minutes, which is particularly crucial for the effectiveness of the level of physical activity. Conclusions. It is indispensable to continue monitoring the physical activity of young people using modern research techniques. It seems intentional to intensify promotion and educational activities, which should be aimed at motivating young people to undertake physical activity in accordance with world-wide recommendations.
Wprowadzenie. Cel. Celem pracy było poznanie poziomu aktywności fizycznej młodzieży szkolnej z państw wyszehradzkich, z uwzględnieniem płci i wykazanie wypełnienia rekomendacji WHO. Materiał i metody. Badania przeprowadzono wśród uczniów z czterech państw wyszehradzkich: Czechy, Polska, Słowacja, Węgry. Jako metodę badań wykorzystano Międzynarodowy Kwestionariusz Aktywności Fizycznej - IPAQ w wersji długiej. Wyniki.

Opis:
In times of prevailing civilization diseases physical activity has become not only a vital element of a healthy lifestyle but also a duty of every human being. Subsequently published studies present the levels of physical activity in various socio-professional groups and the degree to which they meet health promotion recommendations. The challenge of today's times however is the search for new, often atypical or niche social groups and their efforts in undertaking and promoting physical activity. Such a type of group undoubtedly includes persons in the Independent Cultural Centers (ICCs) operating in Poland. The research conducted among them is probably the first attempt to get to know this social group and, above all, the physical activity undertaken by its members. Despite the fact that the activities of Independent Cultural Centers are organized in a bottom-up manner, in accordance with the Do It Yourself principle, their initiatives, including those related to physical culture, enable participants to achieve beneficial health outcomes. The results of the conducted research show that, following the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) criteria, a vast majority of the respondents are sufficiently and highly active. Moreover, compared to similar groups in other respects, they also come out more favorably.

Opis:
Fountains are decorative elements that improve the attractiveness and visual qualities of urban environments. They can give refreshment to residents on a hot, sunny day. Despite the prohibitions on bathing in these facilities people often have contact with fountain water. It should be emphasized that poor quality of water from fountains can be dangerous for human health. This study was aimed at evaluating microbial contamination of water in Krakow fountains (fountain from Szczepański Square, fountain on the Groble Square, “Chopin” fountain near the philharmonic, “Stone” fountain on the Maria Magdalena Square and the fountain on the Main Market Square). Microbiological analyses were conducted to determine the total number of microorganisms at 36±2ºC after 48 hours (mesophilic bacteria) and the total number of microorganisms at 22±2ºC after 74 hours (psychrophilic bacteria). In addition, the coliform bacteria, Escherichia coli and Closridium perfringens were also examined. The results have shown a high degree of microbiological contaminants in the tested water samples. The lowest contamination of water was observed in the fountain on the Szczepański Square and in nozzle water from the fountain on the Groble Square. The highest numbers of bacteria were found in “Stone” fountain at the Maria Magdalena Square.

Determining the state of physical activity of societies as an important component of a health promoting life style is a very up-to-date problem. Studies of physical activity among students, the future elites in their environments, become of increasing importance. An important problem is the recognition of factors differentiating this activity on the example of place of residence. For this purpose, the study covered 2,125 students (60.8% females and 39.2% males) from the National Institute in Lutsk, Ukraine, aged 17–22 (mean age: 20.4). The method of a diagnostic survey was applied which included the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). The following measures of physical activity according to the place of residence (rural area, small town with a population up to 100,000; medium-size town – 100,000–200,000 inhabitants; large city – over 200,000) were taken into consideration: level of physical activity, self-reported physical fitness, sports disciplines practiced by the respondents, and those which they would like to practice, and the BMI, and leisure time possessed. The study showed that the place of residence positively differentiated physical activity among students from medium-size towns and rural areas, compared to their contemporaries from small towns and large cities. Significant differences were also found with respect to the BMI, which was significantly less favourable among respondents from the rural environment. However, no differences were observed between the place of residence for leisure time, self-reported physical activity, and forms of physical activity practiced, and those which the respondents would like to practice.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of researches on the trihalomethanes (THMs) removal on activated carbons AG-5 and NC-I, which differ in their surface areas. The model solutions containing four THMs: trichloromethane (TCM), bromodichloromethane (BDCM), dibromochloromethane (DBCM) and tribromomethane (TBM) have been used for the researches. The initial total trihalomethanes (TTHMs) concentrations in the model solutions have been: 35 µg/dm3; 58.40 µg/dm3; 166.70 µg/dm3 and 280.50 µg/dm3. The dynamic method on the model activated carbon beds has been applied in these laboratory researches. The model solutions have been passed through beds with different flow rates (2 to 15 m/h). The researches have proved the high potential of activated carbons to remove THMs from water. The activated carbon AG-5, which has the higher surface area and pores volume than the NC-I, has shown the higher efficiency in THMs removal from water. Out of four analyzed THMs, compounds with the higher bromine ions level have been better adsorbed than the THMs with the higher chlorine ions level. TCM has been best adsorbed, than DBCM, than BDCM, and TCM has been adsorbed on the lowest level. These differences in adsorption effectiveness of separate THMs were higher for higher flow rates.
Początkowe stężenia sumy trihalometanów w modelowych roztworach wynosiły 35 µg/dm3, 58,40 µg/dm3, 166,70 µg/dm3 i 280,50 µg/dm3. Węgiel aktywny o większej powierzchni właściwej AG-5 wykazywał lepsze zdolności sorpcyjne THMs w porównaniu z węglem aktywnym NC-I.
