Database systems are prone to different types of failure. Cause of them could be both the hard disk failure or user error. One way to protect data against loss is by making backups. This article discusses key elements in development of database backup and recovery strategies. It aims to make people aware of how important is to do and test backups.

Wind energy sector has been developing at a fast pace in many countries around the world in recent years. However, there is an issue with the unpredictability of electricity production provided by wind turbines that is caused by variability of weather. Therefore, there is need to compensate the intermittency of wind energy by means of backup power generation facilities. One of the solutions is compressed air energy storage technology (CAES). The paper discusses the CAES technology characteristics as well as economic aspects of CAES plant construction and operation. The latest achievements and developments in the field of CAES technology is presented. The paper inspects the existing CAES facilities and discusses the possibilities of implementing this technology in Poland.

In terms of electric ship energy requirement in navigation, the ship charging station location is especially important. In this paper, a multi-period ship charging station location optimization model is pro-posed to make location decision in overall, from initial possible station sites chosen to the capacity determination for the final location sites. In the first phase, from the perspective of external environment, find out all possible ship charging station candidate sites through the feasible analyze. In the second phase, taking the ship charging demands into consideration, the final ship charging station sites can be selected among the candidate sites based on backup coverage model. In the last phase, regarding the cost of construction and service capability for different grade as the main factor in capacity determination, the optimal capacity of each final ship charging station are determined by means of optimization method. Finally, an example of Yanqi lake in China is used to verify the validity of the proposed methodology. The reasonable location of charging station could ensure the electric energy supply and avoid congestion caused by ship charging gathering. The model can be easily generalized to other problems regarding facility allocation based on user demand.

Opis:
Probabilistic model of a system composed of a main component, an emergency backup component and the automatic switch are discussed in this paper. The reliability model is semi-Markov process describing evolution of the system. Conditional time to failure of the system is represented by a random variable denoting the first passage time of the process from the given state to the subset of states. The appropriate theorems of the Semi-Markov processes theory allow us to evaluate the reliability function and some reliability characteristics. To calculate the reliability function and mean time to failure of the system we apply theorems of the Semi-Markov processes theory concerning the conditional reliability functions.

The article pertains to one of the most significant early-medieval strongholds in central Wielkopolska. At attempt has been made to present not only the most important conclusions on the discussed fortifications but also to analyse its colony backup facilities. The stronghold in Grzybowo (Września commune, Września county) is among the most mysterious and also the biggest facilities of the type from the early Middle Ages located in the heart of the Piast dominion. It was “discovered” by Olgierd Brzeski who initiated in 1989 excavations continued intermittently by 2009. The research carried out to date allows to define the chronological framework of the stronghold’s existence, namely the time between the 1020s and the mid-1050s. On the other hand, a number of issues like the stronghold’s reconstruction and development, its nature and importance in the Piast domain, its relations with the stronghold network, the course of traffic routes as well as the colony backup facili¬ties and the fortification’s location in the natural environment can and should be investigated in the course of further research.

Issues of network survivability are important, since users of computer networks should be provided with some guarantees of data delivery. A large amount of data may be lost in high-speed Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) due to a network failure and cause significant economic loses. This paper addresses problems of network survivability. The characteristics of virtual paths and their influence on network restoration are examined. A new problem of Backup Virtual Path Routing is presented for the local-destination rerouting strategy. The function of the flow lost due to a failure of a single link is chosen as the performance index. The problem of finding the optimal virtual path assignment is NP-complete. Therefore we develop an exact algorithm based on the branch and bound approach. Moreover, two heuristic algorithms are proposed. Numerical results are presented.

Zaprezentowano wieloplatformowy system archiwizacji danych informatycznych w organizacji wyposażonej w sieć informatyczną. Istotą i celem niniejszego rozwiązania jest zapewnienie bezpieczeństwa danych komputerowych, które są przetwarzane w takich systemach operacyjnych jak Linux, Windows, NetWare, z wykorzystaniem zintegrowanego systemu archiwizacji, który komunikuje się z powyższymi OS. Współpracujące z tymi systemami (serwerami) komputery są zarówno stacjonarne, jak i mobilne. Komputery mobilne zostały wyposażone w narzędzia umożliwiające użytkownikowi synchronizację tych komputerów z serwerem archiwizującym. Synchronizacja następuje samoczynnie po dołączeniu ich do sieci informatycznej, po uprzedniej pracy zdalnej. Podczas archiwizowania jest stosowana zasada, że w systemie informatycznym serwerowi archiwizującemu organizacji zapewniono dostęp o najwyższych uprawnieniach do pełnych danych informatycznych. W celu umożliwienia właściwego pobierania danych przez serwer archiwizujący, wszystkie systemy OS są wyposażone w narzędzia, które umożliwiają autoryzowany, jednokierunkowy dostęp do ich systemów poprzez ten serwer. Ze względów bezpieczeństwa, podczas pobierania danych, jak również podczas komunikacji z innymi systemami OS, połączenia serwera archiwizującego z innymi systemami powinny być szyfrowane.
The multi-platform computer data backup system in an organization equipped with a computer network is presented. The essence and purpose of this arrangement is to ensure the security of computer data which are processed in such operating systems as Linux, Windows, NetWare, using an integrated archiving system which communicates with the above OS systems Compatible with these systems (servers) computers are both stationary and mobile. Mobile computers are equipped with tools that enable users to synchronize those PCs to the server archiving. Synchronization occurs when you attach them to the computer network, after first working remotely. While archiving is applied the principle that in the organization computer system, archiving server has access to all computer data with the highest privileges. In order to allow proper collection of data by the archive server, all OS systems are equipped with tools that enable authorized, one-way access to the systems in the organization through this server. For security reasons, when retrieving data, as well as when communicating with other OS systems, archiving server connection to other systems should be encrypted.

Nowadays, service providers offer a lot of IT services in the public or private cloud. Clients can buy various kinds of services, such as SaaS, PaaS, etc. Recently, Backup as a Service (BaaS), a variety of SaaS, was introduced there. At the moment, there are several different BaaS’s available to archive data in the cloud, but they provide only a basic level of service quality. In this paper, we propose a model which ensures QoS for BaaS and some methods for management of storage resources aimed at achieving the required SLA.This model introduces a set of parameters responsible for an SLA level which can be offered at the basic or higher level of quality. The storage systems (typically HSM), which are distributed between several Data Centers, are built based on disk arrays, VTL’s, and tape libraries. The RSMM model does not assume bandwidth reservation or control, but rather is focused on management of storage resources.

Artykuł jest adresowany w głównej mierze do użytkowników domowych, jak i mikrofirm. Praca rozpoczyna się od przedstawienia problemu, jakim jest ciągły przyrost generowanych danych. W dalszej części rozdziału autorzy prezentują główne przyczyny utraty danych oraz określają częstotliwość wykonywania kopi zapasowej w sieciach domowych. Następnie omówiona zostaje sprzętowa platforma Raspberry, która została wykorzystana do zaimplementowania mechanizmów tworzących technologie sieciowych dysków NAS w sieci domowej.
The article is addressed primarily to home users and micro businesses. The work begins with the presentation of the problem, which is the continuous growth of data generated. In the next section the authors present the main causes of data loss and determine the frequency of the backup in home networks. Then discussed is the hardware platform Raspberry, which was used to imple-ment the mechanisms of creating technologies of network NAS drive on your home network.
