Opis:
The research aims to recognize the potential of adopting the model-based design methodology to the development process of an LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) fuelling system. Changing regulations often force the modern development of internal combustion engines (Euro 7, CO2 reduction measures, etc.). With the definitive ban on new registrations of vehicles powered by internal combustion engines in Europe (planned for 2035), there is still ongoing development of the adaptation of the fuelling system to LPG. There is still market potential in adapting new internal combustion engines, usually equipped with direct injection systems, to reduce customers’ cost of ownership of a vehicle. As the engineering process should be accelerated in the face of the variety of direct injection systems offered by OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), the model-based design methodology is proposed to make the development more effective. The article presents the SWOT analysis of this approach in the engineering process and the potential of the method in an LPG system development is concluded.

Opis:
Semi-metallic brake pads are quite a good choice for performance-driven automotive industries, because of improved braking performance in a more comprehensive range of temperatures. In this study, a semi-metallic brake pad is fabricated through a powder metallurgy processing technique with two compositions of powders with a different weight ratio of Copper (Cu), Iron (Fe), flash, Aluminum oxide (Al2O3), Barium sulfate (BaSO4), Phenolic resin, Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE), Graphite for automotive application. A well-distributed composition was indicated by the microstructure, which exhibited a uniform dispersion of hard particles throughout the matrix. BP-20Cu-20Fe specimen exhibited a high hardness value of 171Hv. Under higher loads of 70 N, the specimen BP-20Cu-20Fe showed excellent wear resistance, with a low wear rate of 1.072×10-6 g/Nm. On the other hand, specimen BP-20Cu-20Fe showed a notable 35% increase in friction coefficient when the load was increased from 30 N to 70 N.The surface morphology, elemental distribution, and worn surface features and characteristics are examined using advanced instrumental techniques.

Opis:
Euro7 and California HD-OBD present a shift of approach in emissions control. Legislative bodies concentrate on individual vehicle conformity to standards during its lifetime on top of type approval processes in test environment. The main change is NOx trackers in software and sensors in the exhaust pipes of all vehicles. As a consequence of constant supervision not only single point faults are taken into account in the analysis, but also cumulative parameter drift of components due to aging. To achieve normative requirements and prevent emission standards violation during exploitation, methodologies known from automotive functional safety domain and SOTIF are used to evaluate and modify a propulsion system design. An illustrative example of analysis is presented in the paper.

The article presents retrospections of technological solutions for the construction of vehicles and adaptive devices used by drivers with disabilities. The author explored the subject using the method of historiographic analysis to collect and report the research material indicated in this study, taking into account the perspective of the development of science in this field. The study contains a dozen or so examples of vehicles that were constructed in the years 1945–2000, adaptive devices, microcars and autonomous vehicles dedicated to people with disabilities. The main purpose of the work was to draw attention to the trend in the development of simple technical solutions based on motorcycle mechanics to more complex autonomous vehicles. The direction in which the development of the automotive industry is heading is optimistic, although it still requires attention to be payed to certain aspects that will affect the use of the technological potential hidden in its capabilities. The study does not describe adaptive devices on the scale that is used, but rather shows that these measures were not perfect and were not based on relevant mobility needs.

Sustainable supplier development helps to improve mutually the supplier’s as well as the buying company sustainability performance. The producer could choose guidance, compliance or capacity building activities to develop its supplier or implement them all. This paper aims to present how the car producers practice sustainable supplier development taking into account different types of approaches and implementation tools. The authors applied content analysis to investigate approaches of six car producers from EU member states. The data was collected from the sustainability reports and complemented with the available information of the supplier sustainability requirements and the code of conduct of each car producer. The findings revealed that analysed car producers use similar approaches to develop their suppliers in the context of sustainability. All of them use mix of activities from all identified categories and collaborate within industry initiatives devoted to spread sustainability in supply chain.

In the years 2016-2020, there has been a significant acceleration in the development of technologies for the hydrogen energy use and their popularization in practice. The value of the global hydrogen market in 2018 was estimated at US $122 billion, predicted that it will increase to US $155 billion by the 2022. The appropriate policy framework has a major impact on the development of new technologies, in particular during research, prototype implementations and the initial phase of their commercialization. Of course, this also fully applies to hydrogen technologies, which was confirmed, i.a., in its study by The Hydrogen Council, a leading global organization in this field. The spearheading countries intensively involved in the development and dissemination of hydrogen technologies are primarily: Japan, China, South Korea, Germany, France, Great Britain, Scandinavian and Benelux countries, as well as Canada and the USA. A dozen more countries making up the leading group, such as: Italy, Spain, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, India and South Africa are making efforts to join the global hydrogen race and complete the leading group. The scale of the global development of hydrogen technologies is illustrated by the fact that at the end of 2019, vehicles with hydrogen fuel cells and the publicly accessible hydrogen refuelling stations serving them already operated in 18 countries. An effective use of the incurred expenditures undoubtedly requires the interested states to formulate an appropriate policy (strategy) for the hydrogenation of the economy, including, in addition to precisely defined long-term objectives, e.g. elements of support from public administration, assurance of: stable investment conditions and the necessary regulatory conditions. The article attempts to synthetically present the political framework, i.e. the functioning plans and programs as well as national strategies for the development of hydrogen technology and economy in 19 countries.

The article presents a cross-sectional view of the development of the HEV car market over the last two decades. Hybrid cars are currently the widest group of cars equipped with alternative to classic drive systems. They are also the most numerous group among electric vehicles. The historical meanders of HEV development were described, as well as the current level of development of this market and the real prospects for the popularization of HEV cars. The level of world production of this category of motor vehicles in the twenty-year period 2001-2020 was also characterized. The article attempts to estimate the real size of the world's HEV fleet. The level of sales of this category of vehicles by individual countries and their changing percentage share in the passenger car market were also presented. Sales of electric hybrids even in the crisis year 2020 increased from 3.2 million to approx. 4 million vehicles, despite a decrease in sales of new passenger cars from 64 to 54 million units. The above fact also proves the market attractiveness of this type of vehicles and the constantly growing interest in them.
W artykule przedstawiono przekrojowy obraz rozwoju rynku samochodów HEV na przestrzeni ostatnich dwóch dekad. Samochody hybrydowe to obecnie najszersza grupa samochodów wyposażonych w alternatywne dla klasycznych układów napędowych rozwiązania. Stanowią też najliczniejszą grupę wśród pojazdów elektrycznych. Opisano historyczne meandry rozwoju HEV, obecny poziom rozwoju tego rynku oraz realne perspektywy spopularyzowania samochodów HEV. Scharakteryzowano również poziom światowej produkcji tej kategorii pojazdów samochodowych w dwudziestoleciu 2001-2020. W artykule podjęto próbę oszacowania rzeczywistej wielkości światowej floty HEV. Przedstawiono również poziom sprzedaży tej kategorii pojazdów przez poszczególne kraje oraz zmieniający się ich udział procentowy w rynku samochodów osobowych. Sprzedaż hybryd elektrycznych nawet w kryzysowym roku 2020 wzrosła z 3,2 mln do ok. 4 mln pojazdów, pomimo spadku sprzedaży nowych aut osobowych z 64 do 54 mln sztuk. Powyższy fakt świadczy również o atrakcyjności rynkowej tego typu pojazdów i stale rosnącym zainteresowaniu nimi.

In 2020, there was the 5th anniversary of establishing, by the Director of the Motor Transport Institute, the Automotive Service Centre for the Disabled Persons together with the National Information Point, the only information, training and research centre in Poland, supporting the community of people with physical disabilities in the area of mobility. This study is an overview of the research and social work to date, scientific publications and pro-social tasks that contributed to the development of motorism in this social group. Such activities are part of the mission of the Institute, which coordinates and promotes scientific research and development works in the field of road transport, while developing innovative technical, organizational and economic solutions. ASC is an example of an innovative comprehensive organizational solution, based on the needs of people with disabilities.
W 2020 roku minęła 5 rocznica powołania przez Dyrektora Instytutu Transportu Samochodowego Centrum Usług Motoryzacyjnych dla Osób Niepełnosprawnych wraz z Ogólnopolskim Punktem Informacyjnym, jedynego w Polsce ośrodka informacyjnoszkoleniowo- badawczego, wspierającego środowisko osób z niepełnosprawnościami ruchowymi w obszarze mobilności. Opracowanie niniejsze stanowi przegląd dotychczasowych prac badawczo-społecznych, publikacji naukowych i zadań prospołecznych, które przyczyniły się do rozwoju motoryzacji tej grupy społecznej. Działania takie wpisały się w misję Instytutu, który zajmuje się koordynacją i propagowaniem badań naukowych oraz prac rozwojowych z zakresu transportu samochodowego, opracowując jednocześnie innowacyjne rozwiązania techniczne, organizacyjne i ekonomiczne. CUM jest przykładem innowacyjnego kompleksowego rozwiązania organizacyjnego, opierającego się o potrzeby osób z niepełnosprawnościami.

Opis:
The analysis of the development of the microstructure of deep drawn automotive B pillar, as well as the analysis of deformation based on numerical simulation and experiment, was performed. The microstructure of steel sheet as well as Al-Si coating after various stages of B pillar production was investigated. It was found that the obtained microstructure of the B pillar was significantly different from that described in many studies as a proper one. The microstructure of the investigated material consisted of martensite, bainite, and a small amount of ferrite. Al-Si coating, despite its morphological changes, remained on the surface of B pillar and, in spite of this, did not fully eliminate oxidation and decarburization of B pillar material. The analysis of the state of strain allowed to evaluate the deformation safety of the process, as well as to verify the simulation results through measurements of sheet thickness variations.

Branża motoryzacyjna stanowi jeden z filarów polskiej gospodarki, mający duży udział w wytwarzaniu wartości dodanej brutto, utrzymywaniu miejsc pracy i przyczynia się do zwiększania nakładów na wdrażanie innowacji. Po kilku słabszych latach spowodowanych ostatnim kryzysem finansowym możemy zauważyć, że polski przemysł motoryzacyjny, a zwłaszcza nakłady na innowacje, które są meritum analizowanego w niniejszej pracy problemu, wzrastają. Celem opracowania jest przeprowadzenie ewaluacji struktury rodzajowej innowacji i nakładów poniesionych na jej wdrażanie w sektorze motoryzacyjnym w latach 2015–2017. Przedmiotem badania są przedsiębiorstwa funkcjonujące w branży na skalę międzynarodową oraz na rodzimym polskim rynku. Zakres obejmuje charakterystykę działalności innowacyjnej w sferze procesowej i produktowej. Na podstawie dostępnych danych przeprowadzono krytyczną analizę materiałów źródłowych, wpływu struktury wydatków na działalność w sferze badawczo-rozwojowej, przebadano nakłady przeznaczane na innowacje w branży, a także dokonano oceny sytuacji na rynku w dziedzinie wdrażania innowacyjnych rozwiązań.
The automotive industry is one of the pillars of the Polish economy, having a large share in generating gross value added, maintaining jobs and contributes to increasing expenditure on implementing innovation. After a few weaker years caused by the recent financial crisis, we can see that the Polish automotive industry, and especially the expenditure on innovation, which is the merits of the problem analyzed in this paper, is increasing. The priority goal of the study is to evaluate the structure of innovation type and expenditure incurred for its implementation in the automotive sector in 2015–2017. The subject of the study are companies operating in the industry on an international scale, as well as on the domestic Polish market. Based on the available data, a critical analysis of source materials was carried out, the structure of expenditure on research and development activities was analyzed, expenditure on innovation in the industry was examined, and the market situation was assessed in the field of implementing highly innovative solutions.

Research background: There is a considerable amount of literature focused on customers' motivation to participate in cooperative new product development [NPD], but previous research neglected the suppliers' perspective concerning organizational mechanisms for the facilitation of customer involvement in cooperative new product development. Purpose of the article: The aim of the study is to explore the influence of two kinds of dynamic capabilities, proactive customer orientation [PCO] and joint learning capability [JLC] on the acceptance and use of machine to machine interaction [M2M] in collaborative innovation development [CID], from the supplier's perspective. Methods: The research is based on a case study carried out from June 2018 till June 2019 of a Polish automation integrator supplying a manufacturer of automotive equipment, i.e. automotive industry, in a fully robotized workstation. In order to understand how the company functions in this case, in-depth interviews with the company's employees have been conducted. Findings & Value added: The results revealed that intelligent devices, interacting machines, and real-time data transfer to the supplier may cause disruptions through their impact on establishing trustful business relationships. We believe our findings could have a profound impact on the way how proactive customer orientation and relational interactions supported knowledge sharing and joint learning sense-making through operational meetings and on-the-job workshops which role was to evaluate the collaborative project.

A socially responsible company should take responsibility for its impact but also take care of the impact throughout its supply chain. Its perspective must be wider than only its own practices. Supplier development process can be used to spread socially and environmentally responsible practices across the supply chain. The aim of the paper is to identify and classify the socially responsible activities practised by the car producers and dedicated to their suppliers. In the paper sustainability reports of seven automakers were analysed. The authors used the technique of content analysis. The socially responsible practices dedicated to suppliers was classified into three dimensions and four categories. All of the automakers disclose information in their sustainability reports on socially responsible practices focused on their suppliers. However, the practices differ in terms of dimension and the area of CSR applied.

Methods of obtaining chromium-coated coatings are considered and technology for the formation of boron, silicon and titanium protected layers on steels under conditions of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis is presented. Using the methods of mathematical modeling, when obtaining wear-resistant coatings on machine parts in conditions of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis, optimal compositions of SHS mixtures have been developed. When tested in sliding friction conditions, the best abrasion resistance, among the coatings under consideration, are chromoaluminium-coated coatings. Their wear resistance is 4.8-5 times higher than in uncoated samples, chromoaluminosilicated and chromoalumotated in 2.1-3.5. The gas-transport method of coating with the help of SHS makes it possible to obtain steel 50 and U8A with increased physical and mechanical properties, without requiring high energy costs and time.

Opis:
The automotive industry in Silesia province is becoming more important. It is influenced by many factors among which one of the most important are political activities of the self‑government authorities in Silesia province together with government administration. For example, the element of political activities was “The regional contract for the Katowice province” and Silesian Region Development Strategy. As the result of this activity, the Katowice Special Economic Zone was established, what was clearly affected and continues to affect the creation of new ones and the expansion of existing plants related to the automotive industry. For example, they are Fiat Auto Poland, Opel, Isuzu, Magneti Marelli. The development of this branch of industry is a great opportunity for a big technological leap and restructuring of the economy for Silesia province and for Poland.
Przemysł motoryzacyjny w województwie śląskim zyskuje na znaczeniu. Wpływ na to ma wiele czynników, spośród których działania polityczne władz samorządowych województwa śląskiego wraz z administracją rządową należą do jednych ważniejszych. Elementem działań politycznych był m.in. „Kontrakt regionalny dla województwa katowickiego” oraz Strategia Rozwoju Województwa Śląskiego. W wyniku tej aktywności powstała Katowicka Specjalna Strefa Ekonomiczna, co wyraźnie rzutowało i nadal rzutuje zarówno na powstawanie nowych, jak i rozbudowę już istniejących zakładów związanych z branżą motoryzacyjną. Są to m.in. Fiat Auto Poland, Opel, Isuzu, Magneti Marelli. Rozwój tej gałęzi przemysłu staje się dużą szansą na skok technologiczny oraz restrukturyzację gospodarki dla województwa śląskiego i dla Polski.

Bezpieczeństwo ruchu drogowego jest problemem złożonym badawczym, a ze względu na różne przyczyny i okoliczności – zagadnieniem interdyscyplinarnym. Istota jego tkwi w intensyfikacji motoryzacji, która obok wielu korzyści, jest także źródłem negatywnych zjawisk i niebezpiecznych zagrożeń. Ich najistotniejszym skutkiem są wypadki drogowe, których liczba, rodzaje oraz następstwa dla uczestników ruchu uzależnione są od wielu odmiennych czynników. Niniejszy artykuł poświęcony jest problematyce bezpieczeństwa i porządku w ruchu drogowym oraz zdarzeniom drogowym i ich skutkom w Polsce.
Road safety is a complex research problem and, due to different causes and circumstances, an interdisciplinary issue. Its essence lies in the intensification of the automotive industry, which, apart from many benefits, is also a source of negative phenomena and dangerous threats. The most important consequences are road accidents, whose number, types and consequences for traffic participants depend on many different factors. This paper is devoted to the issues of safety and order in road traffic as well as road incidents and their consequences in Poland.
