Opis:
In connection with the implementation of the international project TEXMIN within the framework of the RFCS fund, a project for the liquidation of the Głowacki Shaft in Rybnik (Poland) was undertaken, which takes into account the effects of climate change, i.e. evaluation of the increase of precipitation in the region. In addition to the standard research undertaken before liquidation activities, precipitation data recorded by the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management from 1995 to 2019 was collected and the precipitation variability was analysed. As a result, a method for liquidation of the shaft was selected consisting of constructing a permeable backfill column in the shaft and using a shaft pipe filled with permeable backfill material. Metallurgical aggregate was identified as a suitable backfill material, for which degradation tests, filtration coefficient tests and an assessment of its impact on water quality were carried out. It has been determined that a backfill column constructed in this manner can fulfil its function as a long-term gravity-driven water flow.

W artykule przedstawiono definicję grupy jednolitej zdefiniowanej w metodzie reprezentacji binarnych. Możliwość identyfikacji grupy jednolitej umożliwia konstrukcję uproszczonego zapisu logicznego w całościowym rozpatrywaniu układu kombinacji wielowejściowego układu kombinacyjnego. Metoda reprezentacji binarnych stanowi alternatywny sposób konstrukcji uproszczonego zapisu funkcji wyjściowej układu kombinacyjnego w odniesieniu do metody przekształceń formalnych, metody tablic Karnaugha czy metody Quine’a–McCluskeya.
The article presents definitions of uniform group defined in the binary representation method. The ability to identify uniform group enables the construction of a simplified logical description in the total consideration of the combinations of a multi-input combination system. The binary representation method is an alternative way of constructing a simplified description of the output function of a combinational system in relation to the method of formal transformations, the Karnaugh table or the Quine-McCluskey methods.

Opis:
This article presents short-term predictions using neural networks tuned by energy associated to series based-predictor filter for complete and incomplete datasets. A benchmark of high roughness time series from Mackay Glass (MG), Logistic (LOG), Henon (HEN) and some univariate series chosen from NN3 Forecasting Competition are used. An average smoothing technique is assumed to complete the data missing in the dataset. The Hurst parameter estimated through wavelets is used to estimate the roughness of the real and forecasted series. The validation and horizon of the time series is presented by the 15 values ahead. The performance of the proposed filter shows that even a short dataset is incomplete, besides a linear smoothing technique employed; the prediction is almost fair by means of SMAPE index. Although the major result shows that the predictor system based on energy associated to series has an optimal performance from several chaotic time series, in particular, this method among other provides a good estimation when the short-term series are taken from one point observations.

Opis:
With development of science and technology, many engineering systems take on high reliable characteristic and usually have complex structure and failure mechanisms, with their reliability being evaluated by multiple degradation measurements. In certain physical situations, the degradation of these performance characteristics would be always positive and strictly increasing. Therefore, the gamma process is usually considered as a degradation process due to its independent and non-negative increments properties. In this paper, we suppose that a system has multiple dependent performance characteristics and that their degradation can be modeled by gamma processes. For such a multivariate degradation involving three or more performance characteristics, we propose to use a multivariate Birnbaum-Saunders distribution and its marginal distributions to approximate the reliability function and give the corresponding lifetime distribution. And then, the inferential method for the model parameters is developed. Finally, for an illustration of the proposed model and method, a simulated example is discussed and some computational results are presented.

Fully Normalized Associated Legendre Functions
recursion
underflow problem
overflow problem
Fukushima method
Opis:
The known standard recursion methods of computing the full normalized associated Legendre functions do not give the necessary precision due to application of IEEE754-2008 standard, that creates a problems of underflow and overflow. The analysis of the problems of the calculation of the Legendre functions shows that the problem underflow is not dangerous by itself. The main problem that generates the gross errors in its calculations is the problem named the effect of “absolute zero”. Once appeared in a forward column recursion, “absolute zero” converts to zero all values which are multiplied by it, regardless of whether a zero result of multiplication is real or not. Three methods of calculating of the Legendre functions, that removed the effect of “absolute zero” from the calculations are discussed here. These methods are also of interest because they almost have no limit for the maximum degree of Legendre functions. It is shown that the numerical accuracy of these three methods is the same. But, the CPU calculation time of the Legendre functions with Fukushima method is minimal. Therefore, the Fukushima method is the best. Its main advantage is computational speed which is an important factor in calculation of such large amount of the Legendre functions as 2 401 336 for EGM2008.

The paper presents the method of acoustic emission (AE) in the study of the state of insulation systems with air as the high-voltage insulation. The tested object was a planar system of electrodes made of aluminum. In addition, the analysis of AE signals and the impact on these signals the presence of dielectric coating on the electrode surfaces of aluminum was tested. We examined the influence of saturation (seal) these coatings on the dielectric strength of the insulation system. The study was conducted at an air pressure values 1·105, 3·105 and 5·105 Pa. The strength of the electrical systems were tested at alternating voltage with a frequency of 50 Hz. Noted pros and cons of using the method of EA in the context of the assessment of high-voltage electric insulation devices. The presented results confirm the possibility of using acoustic emission method, not only for identifying vulnerable areas, but also to predict the time of of further use of high voltage device.

Opis:
There is a natural protein form, insoluble and resistant to proteolysis, adopted by many proteins independently of their amino acid sequences via specific misfolding-aggregation process. This dynamic process occurs in parallel with or as an alternative to physiologic folding, generating toxic protein aggregates that are deposited and accumulated in various organs and tissues. These proteinaceous deposits typically represent bundles of β-sheet-enriched fibrillar species known as the amyloid fibrils that are responsible for serious pathological conditions, including but not limited to neurodegenerative diseases, grouped under the term amyloidoses. The proteins that might adopt this fibrillar conformation are some globular proteins and natively unfolded (or intrinsically disordered) proteins. Our work shows that intrinsically disordered and intrinsically ordered proteins can be reliably identified, discriminated, and differentiated by analyzing their polarity profiles generated using a computational tool known as the polarity index method (Polanco & Samaniego, 2009; Polanco et al., 2012; 2013; 2013a; 2014; 2014a; 2014b; 2014c; 2014d). We also show that proteins expressed in neurons can be differentiated from proteins in these two groups based on their polarity profiles, and also that this computational tool can be used to identify proteins associated with amyloidoses. The efficiency of the proposed method is high (i.e. 70%) as evidenced by the analysis of peptides and proteins in the APD2 database (2012), AVPpred database (2013), and CPPsite database (2013), the set of selective antibacterial peptides from del Rio et al. (2001), the sets of natively unfolded and natively folded proteins from Oldfield et al. (2005), the set of human revised proteins expressed in neurons, and non-human revised proteins expressed in neurons, from the Uniprot database (2014), and also the set of amyloidogenic proteins from the AmyPDB database (2014).

Polarity Index Method
Opis:
With almost one third of the world population infected, tuberculosis is one of the most devastating diseases worldwide and it is a major threat to any healthcare system. With the mathematical-computational method named "Polarity Index Method", already published by this group, we identified, with high accuracy (70%), proteins related to Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria virulence pathway from the Tuberculist Database. The test considered the totality of proteins cataloged in the main domains: fungi, bacteria, and viruses from three databases: Antimicrobial Peptide Database (APD2), Tuberculist Database, Uniprot Database, and four antigens of Mycobacterium tuberculosis: PstS-1, 38-kDa, 19-kDa, and H37Rv ORF. The method described was calibrated with each database to achieve the same performance, showing a high percentage of coincidence in the identification of proteins associated with Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria virulence pathway located in the Tuberculist Database, and identifying a polar pattern regardless of the group studied. This method has already been used in the identification of diverse groups of proteins and peptides, showing that it is an effective discriminant. Its metric considers only one physico-chemical property, i.e. polarity.
