Opis:
Eva Perón has gained a considerable fame throughout the decades. From key political figure and party sybom, „Evita” has come to be one of the cultural artifacts more closely related to Argentina in a global scale. In that country both the „Lady of Hope” and the movement she belonged to remain a matter of historiographical dispute and, last but not least, a recurrent topic in still ongoing social and political debates. This articles aims to understand in a better way the singular derive of Eva Perón in the discursive and symbolic realms through a brief analysis of the images of her that were formed in the midst of these debates. Finally, it will present a new view on those discussions and on the notoriety of Eva Perón by exploring the ambiguos threads weaved in her public speeches, where feminine liberation, traditional family values and verticalism got along in unstable ways.

The article analyzes the relationships between self-perceptions of class and political identifications in Barrio Operario, a railway district located in the municipality of San Isidro, in the northern suburbs of Buenos Aires (Argentina). Following an interdisciplinary methodological framework, we will dwell on three periods: the neighborhood origin and organization linked to the “Justicialist strategy” of development (1945-1955); its gradual but sustained evolution as a “slum”, fundamentally associated with Argentina’s “opening strategy” (1976-2002) and, finally, its urbanization since 2003, within the framework of the “post-neoliberal society”. We will allocate a section to each one of them, preceded by a review of the contributions that, from the sociological, historical, and ethnographic approaches, allowed us to understand the class configurations and their political identifications.

Opis:
Początki polskiej emigracji do Argentyny sięgają XIX wieku. Polacy emigrowali do tego dalekiego, zamorskiego kraju najpierw jako osoby indywidualne, a następnie w większych grupach. Możemy wyodrębnić kilka fal polskiej emigracji zbiorowej do Argentyny: przedwojenną, czyli z okresu zaborów, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem 1897 roku, międzywojenną i powojenną, zwłaszcza z lat 1945-1950.
The origins of Polish emigration to Argentina date back to the 19th century. Poles emigrated to this distant, overseas country, first as individuals and then in larger groups. We can distinguish several waves of Polish collective emigration to Argentina: pre-war, that is, the period of partitions, with special regard to 1897, interwar and post-war, especially from 1945-1950. The article summarizes the information we have about the historical aspects of the phenomenon described, explains the reasons for the trips, highlights the role of the clergy, lists the most important places for Poles to settle, and the ways and forms of maintaining Polish national identity, both in the past and in the present.

Two fossil tadpoles collected in the Deseadan levels (Oligocene) at the Scarritt Pocket locality of central Patagonia are studied herein. These specimens, which show different degrees of skeletal development, have been assigned to the neobatrachian Calyptocephalella canqueli based on the morphology of the frontoparietals and the presence of adult specimens of this fossil species at the same locality. The concurrent analysis of three developmental stages (Gosner Stages 35/36 and 38/39, and adult) has provided significant data about the ontogeny of this species, including the change of the pattern of exostosis of the frontoparietals, from a pitted to a tuberculated pattern, and the corroboration of the inclusion of two neural arches in the formation of the urostyle. This evidence will shed light on developmental mechanisms that might be involved in the evolution of the genus Callyptocephalella.

The origins and evolutionary relationships of the pygmy right whale (Caperea marginata), the only living member of the Neobalaeninae, have been the subject of a long-standing debate. This phylogenetic uncertainty is compounded by a limited neobalaenine fossil record. Here, we report a Late Miocene mysticete mandible from Patagonia, Argentina, and provisionally refer it to Neobalaeninae, gen. et sp. indet. The new material represents only the third report of a fossil neobalaenine, and the first fossil occurrence of this lineage in the southwestern Atlantic. It is also the oldest specimen so far reported, thus corroborating the idea of an early divergence time for neobalaenines.

A new hydrochoerine rodent, Cardiatherium calingastaense sp. nov. (Caviidae), is described based on the specimen INGEO-PV 87. It was recovered from the late Miocene Las Flores Formation, cropping out at the Puchuzum locality, San Juan Province, Argentina. The new species is based on a particular combination of characters, among which the following can be highlighted: p4 with internal fissures equally deep as in Cardiatherium paranense, secondary external fissure as in Cardiatherium patagonicum, and lacking the fifth internal fissure and supernumerary internal fissure, as in C. paranense; m3 with a conspicuous labial column in the posterior ramus of the second prism; very deep primary and secondary external fissures in upper cheek teeth, the former producing a labial strong step-shaped profile in M2; sagittal crest on the parietals; bullae small in ventral view; scars of the origin of the masseter medialis muscle with an anterior projection up to the level of the incisive foramen and the maxilla-premaxilla suture. The phylogenetic analysis supports the taxonomic proposal of creating a new species of Cardiatherium and shows C. calingastaense sp. nov. as the sister group of the other species of the genus. The lineage leading to the clade Cardiatherium + largest capybaras would have originated at least during the Chasicoan SALMA (early late Miocene). Cardiatherium calingastaense sp. nov. adds to the previous record of Cardiatherium chasicoense and Cardiatherium paranense in the late Miocene of San Juan and Mendoza provinces, respectively, thus increasing the diversity of capybaras in central-west Argentina.

The contents of the superfamily Platanistoidea, an early-diverging lineage comprising extinct species and a single extant representative of South Asian river dolphin (Platanista gangetica), remain controversial. We describe here a partial skull and associated tympano-periotic bones identified as a new genus and species, Aondelphis talen gen. et sp. nov., collected in the lower levels of the Gaiman Formation (early Miocene), in Patagonia (Chubut Province, Argentina). Aondelphis is the first Patagonian platanistoid species named in almost a century. Phylogenetic analyses suggest Aondelphis talen gen. et sp. nov. and a taxon from New Zealand (cf. Papahu ZMT-73) are basal Platanistoidea sensu lato. Unambiguous synapomorphies related to the ear bones allowed us to determine its phylogenetic position. Aondelphis talen markedly differs from the other well-known early Miocene Patagonian platanistoid Notocetus, suggesting the coexistence of at least two different morphotypes that may have occupied different ecological niches at that time. The putative close relationship with a species from New Zealand indicates there was a rapid diversification and widespread distribution of the group in the Southern Hemisphere during the early Miocene. The description of new species and revision of historical records of Patagonian platanistoids can help shedding light on cetacean assemblages of the Patagonian sea during this epoch.

Marrellomorphs (class Marrellomorpha) are a group of Paleozoic arthropods with a very poor fossil record. Here we describe a new marrellomorph arthropod Mimetaster florestaensis sp. nov. from the Tremadocian (earliest Ordovician) of Argentina. The new species is characterized by the shape and direction of the three pairs of principal spines, and the existence of strong secondary spines only in the proximal two-thirds of the anterolateral spines. As a result of phylogenetic analysis the new species integrates a trichotomy with Mimetaster hexagonalis and a Moroccan unnamed marrellid as sister groups. This discovery increases the known diversity of Marrellomorpha and represents the first occurrence of this group in South America, expanding the spatial distribution of the clade.

We describe a new medium−sized penguin, Madrynornis mirandus gen. et sp. nov., from the early late Miocene Puerto Madryn Formation, Chubut Province, Argentina. Although it is evident that extant and fossil penguins form a remarkably homogeneous family of birds, Spheniscidae, their within−group phylogenetic relationships are less obvious. In order to identify the phylogenetic position of the new taxon, we conducted a phylogenetic analysis using 44 osteological characters sampled from 14 representative species of all living genera and five fossil species of Spheniscidae. The family is clearly monophyletic and Madrynornis mirandus is closely related to living taxa. Our phylogenetic interpretation is congruent with biostratigraphic data, with Paraptenodytes from the early Miocene (about 20 Ma) located at the base of the Spheniscidae. Classically, two basic tarsometatarsal types were recognized (one for pre−Miocene and the other for the post−Miocene penguins) based on the pattern of the proximal foramina and the hypotarsus. Madrynornis mirandus exhibits an arrangement of the proximal foramina and a degree of metatarsals fusion similar to that in the living forms, although its elongation index (total length/proximal width) is reminiscent of the extinct Paraptenodytes(a penguin historically recognized as a pre−Miocene form, coming from the early Miocene of Argentina). Madrynornis reveals that the two basic tarsometatarsal types co−existed among Miocene penguins.

Rebbachisaurids are a group of basal diplodocimorph sauropods that diversified in Gondwana at the end of the Early Cretaceous and the beginning of the Late Cretaceous. It is a group of great palaeobiogeographical interest, for it clearly illustrates various processes of dispersal throughout Gondwana and to Laurasia prior to the breakup of Africa and South America. However, the relationships within the group are still under discussion owing to the scarcity of cranial material that would help clarify them. In the present paper we describe the new rebbachisaurid Lavocatisaurus agrioensis gen. et sp. nov. from the Aptian–Albian (Lower Cretaceous) of Neuquén (Argentina). Remains have been recovered belonging to an adult specimen (holotype) and two immature specimens (paratypes). Taken together, almost all the bones of the taxon are represented, including most of the cranium. Lavocatisaurus agrioensis gen. et sp. nov. is the first rebbachisaurid from Argentina with an almost complete cranium, making it possible to recognize differences with respect to other rebbachisaurids, such as the highly derived Nigersaurus. Among its most notable characters are the presences of a large preantorbital fenestra and maxillary teeth that are significantly larger than those of the dentary. Our phylogenetic study places Lavocatisaurus amongst basal rebbachisaurids, as the sister lineage to Khebbashia (the clade formed by Limaysaurinae + Rebbachisaurinae). This position, which is somewhat more derived than that previously suggested for Comahuesaurus and Zapalasaurus (the Argentinean rebbachisaurids closest in geographical and geological terms), reaffirms the presence of different basal rebbachisaurid lineages in the Early Cretaceous of Patagonia.

A new sauropod titanosaur from the Upper Cretaceous Anacleto Formation is described. Narambuenatitan palomoi gen. et sp. nov., is diagnosed by cranial and axial autapomorphies. The holotype, which represent a subadult individual, consists of the left premaxilla and maxilla, braincase, both quadrates, one cervical vertebrae, one dorsal vertebra, fragments of cervical and dorsal ribs, seventeen caudal vertebrae, caudal transverse processes, fragments of haemal arches, left sternal plate, right coracoid, left humerus, left ulnae, both pubes, iliac pedicel, proximal fragment of right ischia, and an incomplete left femur. The phylogenetic analysis indicates that Narambuenatitan is a non−eutitanosaurian lithostrotian, and that it shares with Epachthosaurus a neural spine in middle caudal vertebrae which are laminar and posteriorly elongated.
