Opis:
Automatic gender detection is a process of determining the gender of a human according to the characteristic properties that represent the masculine and feminine attributes of a subject. Automatic gender detection is used in many areas such as customer behaviour analysis, robust security system construction, resource management, human-computer interaction, video games, mobile applications, neuro-marketing etc., in which manual gender detection may be not feasible. In this study, we have developed a fully automatic system that uses the 3D anthropometric measurements of human subjects for gender detection. A Kinect 3D camera was used to recognize the human posture, and body metrics are used as features for classification. To classify the gender, KNN, SVM classifiers and Neural Network were used with the parameters. A unique dataset gathered from 29 female and 31 male (a total of 60 people) participants was used in the experiment and the Leave One Out method was used as the cross-validation approach. The maximum accuracy achieved is 96.77% for SVM with an MLP kernel function.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to follow-up the stability of young talented swimmers’ performance and its biomechanical determinant factors (i.e., anthropometrics, kinematics, hydrodynamics and efficiency) during a competitive season. Thirty three (15 boys and 18 girls) young swimmers (overall: 11.81 ± 0.75 years old and Tanner stages 1–2 by self-evaluation) were evaluated. Performance, anthropometrics, hydrodynamics, kinematics and efficiency variables were assessed at three moments during a competitive season. Performance had a significant improvement (with minimum effect size) and a moderate-very high stability throughout the season. In the anthropometrics domain all variables increased significantly (ranging from without to minimum effect size) between moments and had a moderate-very high stability. Hydrodynamics presented no variations between all moments and had a low-very high stability throughout the season. In the kinematics domain, there were no variations between moment one and three, except for an increase in stroke frequency (without size effect). Speed fluctuation remained constant, with no significant variations. All kinematic variables had a low-very high stability. Efficiency variables did not present variations between moment one and three and had a low-moderate stability. Overall, young swimmers showed a minimum improvement in performance and in anthropometric factors; and a moderate stability of performance and its determinant factors (i.e., anthropometrics, hydrodynamics, kinematics and efficiency) during the competitive season.

Opis:
Introduction and aim. Large breast sizes frequently contribute to women presenting with severe pain symptoms. This study determined the association between breast hypertrophy, forward head posture (FHP), neck and shoulder pain related disabilities and selected anthropometric variables of female undergraduate students of College of Medicine, University of Lagos. Material and methods. A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted among 89 female undergraduate students (mean age = 21.45±1.29 years) with breast hypertrophy (cup size D and above). Breast cup sizes, neck and shoulder pain related disabilities, forward head posture were measured using a measuring tape, neck pain disability scale, shoulder pain disability index and craniovertebral angle (CVA) using photography method. Results. The prevalence of forward head posture among the participants was 43(48.3%). Twenty-eight (31.3%) participants had a “DD” cup size, twenty-six (29.2%) participants had a “DDD” cup size. Sixty-five (73%) of the participants had neck pain related disabilities and 10 (11.2%) of the participants had shoulder pain related disabilities. There was association among weight, forward head posture (p=0.027) and breast hypertrophy (p=0.016). Conclusion. Neck, shoulder pain related disabilities, and forward head posture is prevalent among undergraduates with breast hypertrophy and weight has an influence on forward posture and breast hypertrophy.

Opis:
Purpose: To statistically analyse sitting posture using anthropometrics data among college students in Malaysia. Design/methodology/approach: This study was conducted among 52 college students consisting of males and females. Data were analysed using a common statistical tool which is the Statistical Package of Sosial Science (SPSS). Findings: Preliminary analysis of data indicated that there are wider differences in standard deviation of eye sitting height compared to the previous study conducted. Research limitations/implications: This study was conducted at only one higher learning institution/college located at East Cost of Malaysia. Practical implications: The larger value of standard deviation discovered as statistical analysis performed using combined data among male and female participants suggested that data should be segregated. Originality/value: Result obtained could be used as a preliminary guideline to design any related item in related to sitting posture.
