The article is devoted to the activities of Polish amateur filmmakers from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries to 1939. The development of amateur filmmaking was closely tied to advancements in the production of cameras and film. The first attempts to create an organized amateur filmmaking movement were made in the 1930s, when clubs and associations began to be formed. During this period, Polish amateur filmmakers had their first successes at European and international film festivals and events. The author discusses the most valuable extant pre-war amateur documentaries, and follows the discovery of new films dating back to before 1939. She also relates the “second life” of the oldest amateur films, which have been incorporated into contemporary documentaries.

In this paper, we analyze data sets, collected from the public web sites, containing the finishers arrival times in five different half marathons. We focus on finding patterns in the arrival times distributions as well as on studying the differences between the female and male runners’ arrival times distributions. The main statistical tools used are Analysis of Variance and Kolmogorov - Smirnov test for identifying underlying distributions and for comparing distributions of two samples. The obtained results indicate that the dynamics of groups of female runners is different than that of male runners. Also, a meaningful factor for the sha pe of the distribution is time limit set by the races organizers.

Przykładem płaszczyzny bezpośredniego kontaktu jednostki z daną dziedziną sztuki jest amatorski zespół artystyczny. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie motywów uczestnictwa osób dorosłych w amatorskim zespole chóralnym, opinii dotyczących korzyści wynoszonych z zajęć, zmian zaszłych w życiu chórzystów na skutek członkostwa w zespole, a także przedstawienie kształcących, poznawczych i wychowawczych wartości płynących z uczestnictwa w chórze oraz ustalenie, które z nich przeważają.
All activities undertaken during leisure time (including a number of hobby activities with a much smaller range and dimension, but equally great educational importance) are releted to obtaining certain knowledge and skills in a particular field, have a positive influance on a person’s evolution, enrich his or her personality, and strengthen their relationship with culture. An amateur artistic group is an example of a space of direct contact between a person and a particular field of art. The aim of the article is to show the motives for adults’ participation in an amateur choir, the opinions on the benefits they gain from this activity, the changes that occur in the life of choir members, as well as to show cognitive and educational values stemming from particiation in the choir and to determine which of them dominate.

The efficiency in cross-country skiing commit considerable physiological challenges posed by the combined upper- and lower-body effort of varying intensity and duration. Extremely important for the effectiveness of the work is the ability to draw energy from the processes of aerobic and anaerobic metabolism maintenance work as low as possible during prolonged exercise. The workout should increase maximal aerobic power and the metabolic potential of the muscles. High-intensity exercise is the most important to initiate this change, while low- and moderate-intensity effort allow appropriate muscle adaptation. Monitoring and evaluation of these physiological changes is mandatory in the process of training, in amateur cross-country skier too. Amateur marathons are becoming increasingly popular. This has been an impulse for analyzing the results obtained by the amateur athlete during the preparatory period. The purpose of this retrospective case study was to describe changes in cardiovascular capacity for three months period of an amateur cross-country skier (age = 39, BMI = 20,9). This study based on analysis of source materials, obtained from conducted individually by the athlete registration process of training, the results from test to refuse and the results of measurements of body composition performed in the laboratory functional studies for three months period (preparation period). The results show inter alia increase in maximal oxygen uptake, lactate threshold shift towards higher loads and decrease body weight. This parameter was significantly lower than the performance in highly qualified competitors, but individual changes between the first measurement and the second one was similar. This review summarizes research on amateur cross-country skier. We have the chance to improve our understanding of the impact of various exercises on the human body by analyzing the results from workout monitoring of endurance athletes.

With the rapid development in the production of digital cameras and low cost of these amateur cameras, it is important to determine the possibility of using them in digital close-range photogrammetry. The main objective of this work is to investigate the accuracy attainable by using these amateur cameras for point determination, with the accuracy of point determination by total-station instrument as a reference. For this purpose, a building façade was surveyed and processed by photogrammetric and conventional survey methods. The photogrammetric survey was done using four different amateur cameras, and the conventional survey was carried out using total-station. Thirty-seven (37) points within an opened traverse were established on the exterior walls of the structure to serve as standard geo-reference points for all accuracy comparisons and they are referred to as Reference wall points (RWPs). Twenty-eight (28) of these RWPs were used as checkpoints while the other nine (9) points were used as the control points for the models. The 3D coordinates of these reference wall points were then measured with a total-station instrument. After photographs were taken, they were processed with Agisoft PhotoScan photogrammetric software, where different 3D models were constructed for the four set of photographs taken with the amateur cameras. The photogrammetric coordinates of the reference wall points were determined from the respective models. The coordinates measured from each model were then compared with the ones obtained with the total-station to determine their relative discrepancies and accuracies. The accuracy of each model was determined using the Root Mean Square Deviation (RMSD) approach. Based on the type of amateur cameras used, this work has shown that close-range photogrammetric procedure can provide accurate enough result to be used as an alternative to measurements by total station in as-built surveys or other relatively small works of similar accuracy requirements.

The purpose of physical training is to achieve the maximum capacity of the body. These changes are caused by numerous adaptive mechanisms taking place in the circulatory-respiratory, muscular, nervous, hormonal, and immunological systems, as well as in the mass and composition of the body. They are most visible in athletes of endurance disciplines such as cross-country skiing, skiing, long-distance running, roller skiing, triathlon or cycling. These disciplines are characterized by long-term effort and the highest intensity. This applies to both athletes and amateurs. The aim of the study was to assess the impact of physical activity during the period of main preparations on the circulatory and respiratory parameters of amateurs practicing cross-country skiing. This study was a pilot, and show the results of the assessment of the case. The purpose of this retrospective case study was to describe changes in cardiovascular endurance within three months of a male amateur cross country skier. This study was based on the analysis of training registration, ergospirometry test (treadmill test) results and body composition measurements. The results showed an increase in maximum oxygen uptake, a shift of the lactate threshold towards higher loads and a reduction in body weight. This parameter was lower than the performance of highly qualified competitors, but the individual changes between the first measurement and the second were similar. Monitoring and evaluation of these changes are mandatory in the training process, also in amateur sport. It helps to counteract states of fatigue, overtraining and designing pro-health training loads. In addition, they can provide protection for the health of those who make the marathon and ultra- marathon efforts. The popularity of ski marathons is growing. Assessment of participants' exercise capacity can be used to plan training and comparison with professionals.

The article concerns selected aspects of space illustrated in amateur photography. The author proposes a division into private, public and imaginary space. The first part focuses on the analysis of photo-amateurship, defining the amateur himself and motivations that guide him. The second part concentrates on family, souvenir and tourist photography, in which the three above-mentioned spaces are manifested.
Artykuł dotyczy wybranych aspektów przestrzeni zobrazowanej na fotografii amatorskiej. Autor proponuje podział na przestrzeń prywatną, publiczną i wyobrażoną. W pierwszej części skupiono się na analizie fotoamatorstwa, zdefiniowaniu postaci amatora, a także na motywacjach, które nim kierują. W drugiej części skupiono się na fotografii rodzinnej, pamiątkowej i turystycznej, w których przejawiają się trzy powyższe przestrzenie.

Coccidiosis caused by Eimeria spp. is a common parasitic disease posing a serious problem in pigeon keeping. The aim of the study was to determine the species composition, the degree of coccidia infection and the effect of the coccidiostat used in the course of the disease in two pigeon lofts located in the West Pomerania province. The material for the study came from 180 birds. A total of 330 faecal samples were investigated with two methods: Willis- Schlaaf’s (qualitative) and McMaster’s (quantitative). The pigeons were given the Baycox (Bayer) coccidiostat with toltrazuril as an active substance. The medicament was administered for two days at a dose of 20 mg/kg body weight at three-day intervals. Three species of protozoa were isolated: Eimeria labbeana, E. columbarum, E. columbae, and the infections were mixed. The occurrence of E. labbeana was most commonly reported, which was shown, depending on the pigeon loft and the age of the birds, in 89–93% of young pigeons and in 63–55% of adults. The species E. columbarum and E. columbae were found less frequently. Baycox coccidiostat proved to be highly effective against coccidiosis in pigeons and may also be used in prophylaxis.

Introduction: In this study, we examined the impact of government measures being imposed to slow down the spread of COVID-19 pandemic on long-distance runners’ sports habits and well-being. Material and methods: Data from a total of 323 runners (mean age 41.72 (8.78), 41.8% male) were analysed using quantitative and qualitative methods. Results: 46.9% of runners changed their running habits during the pandemic, 20.4% partly changed it. The poorest psychological well-being was found in a group that changed previous habits. Only 9 individuals reported no running activity at all, and 10 trained on a treadmill instead of a field. Overall, our respondents ran significantly more during the quarantine than before, which is partly explained by changed working conditions, reduced working hours, or lost jobs. The explanatory variables of excess running were previous mileage and distress. Conclusions: Running is suitable for relieving distress and restoring the feeling of freedom. All of these were confirmed by our subjects in the survey interview.

The biography of nineteenth-century amateur performers defies typical biographical formulae due to the paucity of information available about these performers and their productions. The story of the Lawrence sisters added another layer of challenge: determining how to contextualize an ephemeral art form within the biographical history of two women when one of them left an autobiography that, interestingly, attempts to follow typical biographical structure and yet, upon deeper analysis, only introduces yet more unverifiable knowledge gaps. By acknowledging and analyzing those gaps and the challenges they present, an organic narrative can develop—a narrative which speaks to the complexities of this work and the challenges of telling the lives of those whom history might otherwise neglect. The biography becomes, thus, the story of women whose history is imperfectly recorded and a vehicle for a discussion of a popular art form which does not readily lend itself to being archived, while also providing a narrative of the historiographical and historical possibilities that the past presents through its gaps.
Biografie dziewiętnastowiecznych artystów-amatorów trudno wpisać w typowy format biografii ze względu na niedostatek informacji o tego rodzaju wykonawcach i ich występach. Z historią sióstr Lawrence wiąże się dodatkowe wyzwanie: jak kontekstualizować efemeryczną sztukę amatorów w ramach biograficznej historii dwóch kobiet, gdy jedna z nich pozostawiła autobiografię, która wprawdzie stanowi próbę realizacji wzorca tradycyjnej biografii, ale – poddana głębszej analizie – jedynie powiększa liczbę niemożliwych do zweryfikowania luk. Dzięki rozpoznaniu i analizie tych luk oraz problemów, jakie z nich wynikają, można wypracować organiczną narrację odzwierciedlającą złożony charakter pracy badawczej i trudności związane z opowiadaniem o życiu osób, które historia mogłaby pominąć. Biografia staje się więc opowieścią o kobietach, których historia została utrwalona w sposób ułomny, platformą do dyskusji o sztuce popularnej, która niełatwo poddaje się archiwizacji, a zarazem narracją na temat historiograficznych i historycznych możliwości, jakie przeszłość uobecnia za sprawą swoich luk.

Artykuł poświęcony jest trzem postaciom pojęciowym (Giles Deleuze, Félix Guattari) współczesnego humanisty – amatora, dyletanta i błazna – z których dwie pierwsze wyprowadzone są z noszących czytelne ślady autobiograficzności esejów takich autorów, jak Krzysztof Czyżewski, Marcin Król czy Leopold Tyrmand, a następnie usytuowane zostają w kontekście toczącego się obecnie sporu o stan i pożądaną postać humanistyki. Przy próbie włączenia do tego sporu również figury błazna artykuł sygnalizuje trzy momenty złożonej dialektyki współczesnego błazeństwa intelektualnego: jego specyficzną strategię medialną, dwuznaczną relację z władzą, a w końcu szczególny sposób myślenia i zaangażowania związanego z dekonstrukcją Jacques’a Derridy (Michał Paweł Markowski, Tadeusz Sławek).
The article presents three „conceptual personae” (Giles Deleuze, Félix Guattari) of the contemporary humanist: dilettante, amateur and jester. The first two are discussed on the basis of texts of such Polish essayists as Krzysztof Czyżewski, Marcin Król and Leopold Tyrmand, who used to emphasize not only the cultural history of these figures but also their own autobiographical experiences. In order to develop our understanding of the contemporary humanistic modus operandi, the author juxtaposes the dilettante and amateur personae with the jester figure. The article underlines three dimensions of such an „intellectual clowning dialectic”: 1) the necessity of adopting a new peculiar media strategy, 2) the ambiguous relationship with an authority, 3) the exceptional „foolish” way of thinking related to deconstruction and crucial to Jacques Derrida’s L’Universite’ sans condition (discussed by such Polish authors as Michał Paweł Markowski, Tadeusz Sławek).

Celem badań było porównanie wydatku energetycznego trzech rodzajów treningów podej-mowanych przez sportowców trenujących amatorsko siatkówkę, badmintona lub karate. W badaniu wzięło udział 36 osób (23 mężczyzn i 13 kobiet), w wieku 39 ±8 lat. Do oceny wy-datku energetycznego sesji treningowych wykorzystano pulsometry Polar M400 z nadajnikami na klatkę piersiową H7. Wydatek energetyczny treningu badmintona (1261 kcal; 631 kcal/h) i karate (1239 kcal; 823 kcal/h) był istotnie wyższy niż wysiłek siatkarski (868 kcal; 579 kcal/h). Z uwagi na znaczną wielkość wydatku energetycznego związanego z pojedynczą sesją treningową sportowców amatorów, uzasadnione wydaje się dalsze monitorowanie zarówno wielkości wydatku energetycznego sportowców amatorów, jak też wartości energetycznej ca-łodziennych racji pokarmowych tych osób.
The aim of the study was to compare energy expenditure during three amateur athletes trainings, ie. volleyball, badminton and karate. The study was conducted among 36 adults (23 men and 13 women), aged 39 ±8. Polar M400 heart rate monitors with H7 chest strap were used to estimate energy expenditure during selected training sessions. Energy expenditure dur-ing badminton (1261 kcal; 631 kcal/h) and karate (1239 kcal; 823 kcal/h) trainings were sig-nificantly higher than energy expenditure during volleyball training (868 kcal; 579 kcal/h). Due to the large energy expenditure during single training session, it seems justified to assess both energy expenditure and energy intake among athletes.

Background: While moderate physical exercise has positive effects on the cardiovascular system, the data regarding intensive endurance sports is biased with studies suggesting that the inflammatory response to strenuous exercise may act proarrhythmogenic. In amateurs, the effects of intensive endurance exercise on the cardiovascular system have not been studied. Analysis of the effects of a marathon on the kinetics of inflammatory biomarkers may bring new insights into this issue. Material and methods: We studied the effect of a marathon on the kinetics of inflammatory biomarkers: Endothelin-1 (ET-1), Pentraxin-3 (PTX-3), Neopterin and Interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the population of 35 amateur male marathoners. The study was divided into 3 stages: two weeks prior to the marathon (S1), at the finish line (S2) and two weeks after (S3). Blood analyses for biomarkers were performed at each stage. Results: The concentrations of ET-1 (3.20 ± 0.90 vs. 1.30 ±0.34 pg/ml, p <0,001), PTX-3 (441.09 ± 295.64 vs. 279.99 ± 125.68 pg/ml, p < 0,001), Neopterin (9.97 ± 2.17 vs. 8.36 ± 2.68 nmol/l, p < 0,05) and IL-6 (32.5 ± 13.90 vs. 0.97 ± 0.77 pg/ml, p < 0,001) were significantly higher at S2 compared to S1. Conclusions: Running a marathon causes an acute rise in concentrations of inflammatory biomarkers. Further research is needed on the long-term effects of intensive endurance exercise on the cardiovascular system.

The aim of the article is to present certain results of own research relating to the opinions of adults – members of Krakow choirs – on the knowledge and skills they acquire through the activity in amateur singing bands. The research results are of quantitative nature and form part of the broader research on the process of art impact (more specifically music) and artistic band on people carried out by the author.

Many owners of home gardens and plots see the need for chemical protection of fruit plants. Due to changes in plant protection regulations, from June 2015, the range of preparations at the disposal of amateurs will change. The aim of the study is to signal legal changes and to review the market of plant protection chemicals in Poland in terms of the availability of preparations for amateur protection of fruit plants in the light of the new regulations.

Amateur theatre circles play an important role in promoting the ideas contained in Karol Wojtyła’s dramas. Our God’s Brother and In front of the Jeweller’s Shop, as well as various poetic works based on Wojtyła’s poetry, have permanently entered the repertoire of smaller theatre groups. Some of these, such as “Droga” from Poznań, “Teatr Karola” from Gliwice or “Hagiograf” from Cracow, subordinate their existence and actions to the goal of promoting the thoughts and works of the Polish Ppope. The variety of forms, from rhapsodic performances to musicals, means that the ideas that John Paul II left in his writings can still find new recipients today.

Background: The most common risk factors for running-related injuries are mistakes, such as insufficient warm-up and stretching exercises, during training. Good preparation and proper training reduces the risk of sport-related injuries. Aim of the study: To examine fundamental movement patterns and likelihood of injury in amateur runners. Material and methods: Twenty-four amateur long-distance runners from Opole region (Poland) were divided into two groups. The first group comprised 12 runners from the club “Kotwica Brzeg”, who did a proper warmup before training and stretching exercises after training. The second group comprised 12 runners from other clubs who did not undertake any warm-up or stretching exercises (control group). Fundamental movement patterns were tested by the Functional Movement Screen test (FMS). Results: The mean FMS test score was higher in “Kotwica Brzeg” runners (17.08 points) than in the control group (15.50 points), but this was not statistically significant. The “Kotwica Brzeg” runners performed better in five of the FMS tests, but this was only significant for the rotational stability test. Conclusions: Runners who did a proper warm-up and stretching exercises achieved better results in the FMS test, which may reduce the risk of running-related injuries.

Fotogrametryczne opracowanie zdjęć amatorskich, niemetrycznych zobrazowań cyfrowych, jest utrudnione ze względu na niemożność przeprowadzenia laboratoryjnej kalibracji użytych aparatów fotograficznych czy zastosowania samokalibracji za pomocą znanej ogólnej metody DLT – Direct Linear Transformation (brak fotopunktów o znanych współrzędnych terenowych). W praktyce zazwyczaj dysponujemy tylko zdjęciami pozyskiwanymi często z kilku różnych źródeł i nierzadko są to zdjęcia wykonane z wykorzystaniem obiektywu zmiennoogniskowego (zoom). W pracy przeprowadzono analizę matematycznych podstaw rzutu środkowego, w szczególności wykazano możliwość uzyskania pełnej orientacji wewnętrznej na podstawie perspektywicznych punktów zbiegu oraz opracowano nowe sposoby wyznaczenia tych punktów. Przedstawione rozwiązanie pozwala na metryczne opracowanie niemetrycznych zobrazowań cyfrowych, w tym zdjęć kadrowanych lub wykonanych z wykorzystaniem obiektywu zmiennoogniskowego. Zaproponowano również autonomiczną metodę wyznaczenia dystorsji radialnej na podstawie efektu beczkowatości (poduszkowatości). Metoda umożliwia uniknięcie negatywnych skutków silnego skorelowania parametrów dystorsji z odległością obrazową. Doświadczenia z ogólnie dostępnego oprogramowania do modelowania zdjęć amatorskich (wizualizacji geometrycznych 3D) wskazują, że wybrane własności perspektywicznych punktów zbiegu są już wykorzystane w praktyce. W szczególności przetestowano, udostępnione przez Google, narzędzie Photo Match umożliwiające budowę nieskomplikowanego modelu 3D ze zdjęć obrazujących dwie prostopadłe płaszczyzny danego obiektu, np. ściany budynku.
Modelling three-dimensional objects (e.g. historical buildings) based on nonmetric digital images is a complex task because the internal orientation and radial distortion parameters are unstable and unknown. In this paper, by analysing the mathematical basis of the central projection, the authors describe the feasibility of using the internal orientation of amateur photographs through the use of vanishing points (in a perspective drawing). The presented method is able to use zoomed photographs. Consequently, the paper also includes several ways of deriving the vanishing points analytically. The authors also propose a method for deriving the radial distortion parameters on the basis of the barrel/cushion effect. The advantage of this solution is the possibility to minimise the negative effects of the strong correlation between distortion parameters and the focal distance.

Ustawa o rybactwie śródlądowym dotyczy przede wszystkim zasad i warunków ochrony, chowu, hodowli i połowu ryb w powierzchniowych wodach śródlądowych, w wodach znajdujących się w urządzeniach wodnych oraz w obiektach przeznaczonych do chowu lub hodowli ryb oraz właściwości organów administracji publicznej, sposobu ich postępowania, a także reguluje zadania i obowiązki jednostek organizacyjnych i osób, związane z wykonywaniem przepisów europejskich. Jedną z form wspomnianego połowu ryb jest jego amatorskie uprawianie na zasadach określonych w ustawie, w tym po pozyskaniu odpowiedniego zezwolenia. Niniejszy artykuł prezentuje wyniki analizy art. 7 ustawy o rybactwie śródlądowym, który dotyczy tejże formy. Autorzy formułują pogląd, wedle którego rozwiązania ustawowe są niepełne i w związku z tym regulacja ustawowa powinna zostać uzupełniona. Dotychczas problematyka ta nie była szerzej omówiona w literaturze przedmiotu. Z kolei orzecznictwo sądowe dotyczy wyłącznie wybranych aspektów tego zagadnienia.
The Inland Fisheries Act mainly concerns the rules and conditions for the protection, breeding, breeding and catching of fish in surface inland waters, in waters in water facilities and in facilities intended for fish breeding or breeding, and the competence of public administration bodies, the manner of their conduct, and it also regulates the tasks and obligations of organizational units and persons related to the implementation of European regulations. One of the forms of the aforementioned fishing is its amateur cultivation according to the rules specified in the Act, including obtaining the appropriate permit. This article presents the results of the analysis of art. 7 of the Inland Fisheries Act, which concerns this form. The author formulates the view that this provision contains significant shortcomings and should be supplemented. So far, this issue has not been discussed in the literature. On the other hand, judicial decisions concern only selected aspects of this issue.

Home Photography of Women – between Document and Private Artistic ExperimentThe text focuses on photographs taken by Klementyna Zubrzycka at the beginning of 20th century, at her home town Limanowa. It is interesting to examine these pictures in the context of both home life and family life, because the author – Zubrzycka mostly documented her everyday life and relatives, like others amateurs in the first half of 20th century, including Lartigue or Vivian Maier (who was popularized by a documentary film made in 2013). Analyzing photographs of Zubrzycka, it is necessary to check to what extend home (and family) photography was considered to be domain of women. And if emancipation and modernity opened a new filed of creativity for women. The other issue is to examine these pictures in terms of aesthetics and artistic values, usually re-discovered by critics and curators years after they were made. The last but not least question would be one about differences between amateur photography and arts.

Prezentowany w 2004 r. w CSW Zamek Ujazdowski projekt Entuzjaści Marysi Lewandowskiej i Neila Cummingsa przypomina współczesnemu odbiorcy o ruchu Amatorskich Klubów Filmowych – zjawisku o masowym charakterze, które rozwijało się w Polsce Ludowej od początku lat 50. do końca lat 80., a po transformacji ustrojowej zostało zepchnięte na margines historii rodzimego kina. Choć powodem tego były między innymi relacje łączące amatorów z reżimem komunistycznym, to jednak przyglądając się zjawisku obecnie, można dojść do wniosku, że działający w klubach filmowcy pozostawali często poza oficjalną sferą kultury, przyjmując kontrkulturową taktykę oporu i krytyki. Entuzjaści odsłaniają ponadto arbitralność historii polskiego kina, która opiera się na kanonie wykluczającym takie zjawiska, które do niego nie pasują, jak na przykład twórczość członków AKF-ów.
Marysia Lewandowska and Neil Cummings’ project The Enthusiasts presented in 2004 at the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle reminds the contemporary member of the audi- ence about the Amateur Film Club movement, a mass phenomenon which took place in Polish People’s Republic between 1950s and late 1980s, and which, following the political transformation, was pushed into the margins of the history of Polish cinema. Although the reason for this was, among other things, the relations linking the amateurs with the communist regime, looking at it now, one may conclude that filmmakers participating in the clubs often remained outside of the official sphere of culture, adopting guerrilla tactics of resistance and criticism. The Enthusiasts project also reveals the arbitrary nature of the history of Polish cinema, which is based on a canon that excludes phenomena that do not fit in, such as for example the work of the members of the Amateur Film Clubs.

The research undertaken was a continuation of previous studies relating to professional divers. The bioelectrical activity of the brain with an electronic electroencephalograph (EEG) was studied in a group of 89 instructors for amateur diving between 21 and 50 years of age. Pathological patterns were found in 15.7% of the subjects. In comparison with professional divers, the disturbances were significantly less frequent, but considerably more frequent in comparison with the control group. There was no relationship between the occurrence of the disorders in relation to the age of the examined person, however, the occurrence of the disorders was more frequent in persons with the least experience. Moreover, a correlation was found in one age group between abnormalities of EEG recording and the occurrence of sterile bone necrosis.
Przeprowadzone badania były kontynuacją wcześniejszych, dotyczących nurkow zawodowych. Zbadano aktywność bioelektryczna mozgu za pomocą elektroencefalografu (EEG) u grupy 89 instruktorow nurkowania amatorskiego w wieku 21 – 50 lat. Stwierdzono u 15.7% badanych cechy patologicznego zapisu. W porownaniu z nurkami zawodowymi zaburzenia występowały istotnie rzadziej, natomiast w porownaniu z grupą kontrolną znamiennie częściej. Nie stwierdzono zależności występowania zaburzeń w odniesieniu do wieku badanego, natomiast widoczne było częstsze występowanie zaburzeń u osob z najkrotszym stażem. Stwierdzono także istnienie korelacji w jednej grupie wiekowej pomiędzy zaburzeniami zapisu EEG z występowaniem jałowej martwicy kości.

Zauważa się coraz bardziej zamierzone operowanie różnymi formami stylistycznymi w celu stworzenia dojrzałych i wartościowych spektakli.
Christian theatres often try to transfer biblical content to the stage, the main goal of which is the story told along with the message it carries. During the preparation of scenarios, activities such as text simplification, updating events, and other various types of compilations are used. The authors of these performances or the playwrights invited to cooperate, often make a conscious choice of texts, thanks to which universal stories are created to proclaim the kerygma. There is an increasingly awareness in the use of various stylistic forms in order to create mature and valuable performances.

In this article, the author presents preliminary conclusions regarding the issues of informal communication in the Dąbrowa Basin during the Second World War. Particular attention was paid to amateur songs about life during the German occupation collected by Professor Adolf Dygacz. The characterized folklore material, in the perspective of research on the social history of the region, can be seen not only in the category of expression of grassroots creativity that contradicts the ancient maxim inter arma silent Musae, but above all in understanding amateur songs as attempts to interpret and categorize reality. In this context, songs and other informal forms of expression constitute a valuable, though often underestimated anthropological and historical source, providing a new perspective for conducting research in terms of cultural history.
W niniejszym artykule autorka przedstawia wstępne wnioski dotyczące problematyki komunikacji nieformalnej na terenie Zagłębia Dąbrowskiego w czasie II wojny światowej. Szczególna uwaga została poświęcona amatorskim pieśniom poruszającym temat życia podczas okupacji niemieckiej, zebranym przez prof. dr. hab. Adolfa Dygacza. Scharakteryzowany materiał folklorystyczny, w perspektywie badań nad społeczną historią regionu, można ujmować nie tylko w kategorii wyrazu oddolnej kreatywności przeczącej starożytnej maksymie inter arma silent Musae, lecz przede wszystkim w pojmowaniu amatorskich pieśni jako prób interpretacji i kategoryzacji rzeczywistości. W tym kontekście pieśni i inne niesformalizowane formy ekspresji stanowią cenne, choć często niedoceniane źródło antropologiczno-historyczne, dostarczające nowej perspektywy na prowadzenie badań w ujęciu cultural history.

The aim of the study is to determine the intensity of exercise during amateur running competitions taking place in the Sudeten Mountains, based on results of measurements of energy expenditure. The study covered those participating in 2015-17 and included details on themselves and their preparation. Their energy consumption was measured using a CALTRACTM device. Routes are described by distance (km) and altitude (m). Average energy output values for 19.2 km and 613.8 m were calculated from measurements taken which was characterized as ‘unduly heavy’. In women this value was 11.6 kcal/1 min/55 kg and in men - 12.7 kcal/1 min/65 kg.

In the contribution we outline dramatics and activities of members of Jednota mládeže slovenskej (Union of Slovak Youth) in Levoča. In the national consciousness processes and in the struggle for a new society, followers of Ludovit Stur (so-called “štúrovci”) attributed great importance to theatre. The then Slovak playwright (J. Chalupka) and the other nation’s amusing type of drama (e. g. V. K. Klicpera, A. Kotzebue, K. Kisfaludy) were typical for their drama creation. Revolutionary years of 1848/49 caused termination of drama activities at The Spis region and ending of this important period. We outline the image of particular drama productions (from 1845 to 1847) realized by amateurs in Levoča.

Background: Protein is a basic macronutrient supplied to the body via food intake and one of the key dietary elements of physically-active populations. Aim of the study: The aim of the study was to analyze the protein intake of healthy adults undertaking regular muscle strength training. Material and methods: This study was conducted on 168 healthy adults: 84 women (25.9±6.1 years) and 84 men (25.5±5.4 years) performing strength training on a regular basis (~4 times a week). Protein intake was determined using a structured questionnaire to quantify the amount, source, and frequency of protein consumed. Results: The participants declared an average daily protein intake of 153.8±50.2 g, with women reporting lower intake (115.9±28.3 g) than men (184.8±42.2 g) (p<0.001). The main sources of protein were poultry meat, dairy products (e.g. milk, eggs), and protein supplements. 79% of participants declared using protein supplements, but no differences between women (79%) and men (80%) were found (p> 0.05). The amount of protein supplied by supplementation was, on average, 37.3±21.5 g with a lesser amount reported by women (28.6±13.2 g) than men (45.5±24.5 g) (p<0.001). 62.9% of participants consumed supplements in the form of whey protein concentrate and 42.6% took protein supplements immediately after training. Conclusions: The study participants consumed an excess amount of protein in comparison to the recommended daily intake. Protein supplementation accounted for a ¼ of daily protein intake, most often consumed immediately after training and generally in the form of whey protein concentrate. Nutritional education is necessary to align the eating habits and supplemental intake of physically active adults, relative to strength-training demands.

The article examines the relations between photography, body, nudity, and sexuality. It presents changing relations of photography with a naked or semi-naked body and different forms and recording conventions. From the mid-19th century the naked body became the subject of scientifically grounded photographic explorations, an allegorical motif referring to painting traditions, an object of interest and excitement for the newly-developed “touristic” perspective. These three main ways in which photographs depicting nudity were being taken at that time shaped three visual modes: artistic-documentary, ethnographic-travelling, and scientific-medical. It has deep cultural consequences, including those in the ways of shaping the notions of the corporeal and the sexual. Collaterally, one more, probably prevalent in numbers, kind of photographical images arose: pornographic. In the middle of the 19th century, the repertoire of pornographic pictures was already very wide, and soon it become one of the photographic pillars of visual imagination of the modern society, appealing to private and professional use of photography, popular culture, advertisement, art. The number of erotic and pornographic pictures rose hand over fist with the development of digital photography. Access to pornographic data is easy, fast, and cheap, thanks to the Internet, as it never was before. Photography has fuelled pornography, laying foundations for a massive and lucrative business, employing a huge group of professional sex workers. How all those processes affected our imagination and real practices, what does the staggering number of erotic photography denote? One possible answer comes from Michel Foucault who suggests that our civilization does not have any ars erotica, but only scientia sexualis. Creating sexual discourse became an obsession of our civilization, and its main pleasure is the pleasure of analysis and a constant production of truth about sex. Maybe today the main pleasure is about watching technically registered images, and perhaps that is why we may consider visual redefinition of the body as the main social effect of the invention of the photography.

Since the 1930s, Słupsk-born Eberhard Preußner (1899-1964), who would later become president of the Akademie Mozarteum Salzburg, had been ranking among Leo Kestenberg’s (1882-1962) most important colleagues. From 1930 to 1943 he was the editor of the periodical “Die Musikpflege” which was changed into an official institution following the Enabling Act of 1933. This article systematically and critically pursues the question if and how this periodical, for which Preußner had been able to recruit numerous competent and high-profile authors, has contributed to supporting Kestenberg’s concept of a music-reform in its first three year’s issues before his compulsory retirement and emigration.

Początki polskiego ruchu teatralnego w Wilnie związane są z zakonem jezuitów. Zapoczątkowany przez zakon ruch, rozwijał się na dworach. Za ojca polskiego teatru uważany był Wojciech Bogusławski, który stworzył w Wilnie pierwszy prawdziwy teatr. W takiej formie istniał on niespełna 100 lat, by następnie odrodzić się w 1905 r. za sprawą hrabiego Władysława Tyszkiewicza. Kolejne lata to wybudowanie teatru stałego oraz dalszy rozwój wileńskiej sceny, którego nie przerwały wydarzenia II wojny światowej i pierwsze lata powojenne, a jedynie go nieco osłabiły. Głównym tematem niniejszego opracowania jest powstanie i działalność dwóch polskich teatrów amatorskich w Wilnie. Pierwszym z nich było Polskie Studio Teatralne (wcześniej Polski Zespół Dramatyczny), założone na początku lat 60. XX wieku przez lekarkę Janinę Strużanowską. Natomiast drugim powstały w tym samym czasie Polski Zespół Teatralny przy Pałacu Kultury Kolejarzy w Wilnie, później znany jako Polski Teatr w Wilnie. Zespół założyła zawodowa aktorka Irena Rymowicz. Funkcjonowanie tych zespołów teatralnych miało szczególne znaczenie w czasach, kiedy Litwa znajdowała się pod rządami radzieckimi. Władza ta w znacznym stopniu ograniczała litewskim Polakom kontakty z Ojczyzną. W związku z tym Polacy spragnieni polskiego słowa chętnie przychodzili na wystawiane przez grupy przedstawienia. Ich popularność nie zmalała po przemianach ustrojowych w 1991 r., a wręcz przybrała na sile. Pojawiły się bowiem nowe możliwości rozwoju, które starano się wykorzystać. Z myślą o podtrzymywaniu rozwijającego się polskiego ruchu teatralnego, zaczęły się tworzyć teatrzyki szkolne. W latach 90. XX wieku działały one niemal w każdej polskiej szkole na terenie Wilna, ciesząc się zainteresowaniem uczniów. Za datę końcową przedstawianej tematyki przyjęto umownie rok 2004, kiedy to Polska i Litwa wraz z innymi państwami weszły do Unii Europejskiej. W tym samym czasie zmieniły się pewne prawa i standardy, wymagające dodatkowej analizy.
The beginnings of Polish theatre activity in Vilnius were connected with the Jesuit Order. Initiated by the order, the theatre activity developed in the estates of the nobility. Wojciech Bogusławski was credited with being the father of the Polish theatre as he established the first real theatre in Vilnus. It had existed in such a form for less than 100 years to be revived in 1905 by Władysław Tyszkiewicz. The following years saw the building a permanent theatre as well as the further developement of the Vilnus stage which was continued despite the World War II and the first years of post-war times which only weakened it a bit. The main topic of the article is the establishment and activity of two Polish amateur theatres in Vilnus. The first of them was the Polish Theatre Studio (the former Polish Dramatic Ensemble) set up at the beginnning of the 1960s by a physician, Janina Strużanowska. While the second one established at the same time was the Polish Theatrical Ensemble on the premises of the Railway Culture Palace, later known as the Polish Theatre in Vilnius. It was set up by a professional actress, Irena Rymowicz. The existance and work of the theatre ensembles was especially important in the times when Lithuania was under the Soviet rule. The authorities greatly limited contacts between Lithuanian Poles and the mother country. As a result the Poles longing for Polish language eagerly came to see the performances presented by the ensembles. Their popularity did not decrease after the political changes in 1991; on the contrary, it even grew. New opportunities for development. With a view to supporting the developing Polish theatre movement, school theatres started to appear. In the 1990s, they were in almost every Polish school in Vilnius being of great interest for the students. The final date of the presented subject matter was assumed to be 2004 when Poland and Lithuania together with other countries joined the European Union. Some laws and standards changed, and this requires further research.

Film translation is often referred to as a “necessary evil”. This is because the translated lines tend to be simplified in the process of audiovisual translation. It is estimated that the dialogue in a film translation might be shortened by up to 30–40% compared to the original text. However, it should be borne in mind that film dialogues are an integral part of the film’s image and serve not only an informative but also a poetic function. Thus, when translating the characters’ statements, one should consider not only the semantic aspect but also the stylistic elements used in the material, particularly repetitions, contrasting juxtapositions of foreground and background dialogues, and references to musical works. The article presents the conclusions of the author’s research based on five translation variants of the film Cold War into Russian.

At the time of postmodern deconstruction in thinking about aesthetic education, the concept of prof. Irena Wojnar on the integration of art with daily life is still valid. In the 1980s and 1990s, the legitimacy of prof. Wojnar’s theory were our studies of amateur artistic teams from youth vocational schools in Gorzów Wielkopolski, Lublin, Kraków, Andrychów, Koronowo, Kołobrzeg. Despite various profiles of the schools such as: mining, metallurgy, medicine, gastronomy, railway, amateur creativity was developed within the three following stages: (1) social meetings functioning instrumentally; (2) workshops enhancing the autonomy of art; (3) formation of a lifestyle that shapes the hierarchy of values. The integration of art with daily life is not limited to the past: Młodzi i teatr (‘Youth and the Theatre’) report prepared by the Malta Festival Foundation in Poznań (2013) shows its usefulness in the educational practice. Together with defining the typology of audience and the conditions for dissemination of the theatre, it emphasises the need for a broader cultural participation in the debate on art creation within the new social environment.

It’s a paradox that we trust more and more hundreds of anonymous people than people we know and who know our taste. In addition, the number of stars and the scoring of different products is more important than the opinion of a specialist. The author tries to investigate the relationship between “professional” literary criticism and “amateur” blogs on literature. With the advent of e-literature the question on the condition of literary criticism should be reformulated. The author examines the sources of change, takes into account the specificity of writing literary blogs, the relationship between bloggers and publishing market.

Artykuł dotyczy jednego z najczęściej pojawiających się w tekstach Majdanu obrazu, mianowicie obrazu anioła. Jest on wielokrotnie przywoływany w wierszach poetów amatorów. Oprócz treści sakralnych ten obraz zawiera również inne cechy, co ujawnia jego wieloaspektowość. Ukształtowany w umysłach Ukraińców obraz w okresie Rewolucji Godności przybiera nowe konotacje i niuanse. W badaniu wytypowano kilka charakterystycznych form zauważalnych w poezji amatorskiej: anioł obrońca, anioł stróż, archanioł Michał i anioł śmierci. W wierszach Majdanu nie zawsze ten symboliczny obraz pokazany jest jako istota niebiańska, często okazuje się ucieleśnieniem doświadczeń protestującego, zwłaszcza tragicznej śmierci w imię wolności i narodu. W artykule zostały przeanalizowane liczne wiersze poetów amatorów, co pozwala na wyeksponowanie specyfiki każdego z nich. Autorka dochodzi do wniosku, że amatorska poezja Majdanu zasługuje na szczególne miejsce we współczesnej literaturze ukraińskiej.
The author of the article researches one of the common images in the poetry of the Revolution of Dignity – the image of an angel. It repeatedly appears in poems by amateur writers. In addition to the sacred content, this image in poetry also has other features, as a result of which its multifaceted nature is revealed. The image of an angel formed in the minds of Ukrainians acquired other connotations and nuances during the Revolution of Dignity. This study singles out several images that are repeated in amateur poetry: the protective angel, the guardian angel, Archangel Michael, and the angel of death. Another feature of this image is that in Maidan poetry, he is not always a heavenly creature, but often the embodiment of a dead protester. This article analyzes a number of poems by amateur poets and presents the specificities of each of them as confirmation that amateur Maidan poetry deserves a special place in Ukrainian literature.

In the present work, I wish to concentrate on two examples of detective fiction in Spain, that is on Arturo Pérez Reverte’s The Flanders Panel and Alicia Giménez Bartlett’s Serpientes en el paraíso. Both novels are centred on a character of a female detective. After a closer look, we can see that both detectives have found themselves in a similar situation. Julia, the amateur, and Petra, the professional, exist and work in a typically masculine world of detectives and police officers, struggling with the gender issues and roles. By analysing their situations, I wish to present a case study of two female detectives and their reactions, responses and attitudes towards the masculine world of sleuths, thus providing a complete picture of both protagonists. The aim of the study is to determine motivation of runners from Poland and the Czech Republic in the context of their participation in running competitions. In this study, correlations between age, experience, training period and motives for participation in the competition by comparing the cross-country runners from both countries was researched. The study examined the place of health in the structure of motives. The study involved 847 runners from Poland and 118 from the Czech Republic. The method of a diagnostic survey was carried out using questionnaires. Competition with ourselves, overcoming our own limits, and improving physical fitness are the main motives of runners who participate in running events. Motives related to health are placed in subsequent positions. Polish runners are more sport goal-oriented; this may result from the fact that in the Czech Republic recreational sport is more grounded in culture. Running events are an important element of cross-country passion, since up to nearly 45% of runners from the Czech Republic and more than half from Poland would limit the practice, or stop it, if they did not have eligibility to participate in competitions. Organizers of sports and recreational events involving road running should rather educate runners in the direction of healthy behaviors. They should enrich the content of health education emphasizing the value of active participation and healthy lifestyle over sports rivalry.

Cukrzyca to „epidemia XXI wieku”, szacuje się, że w 2011 roku na cukrzycę chorowało 6,7% populacji Polski, z czego jedna czwarta nie miała świadomości choroby. Tak duże rozpowszechnienie cukrzycy sprawia, że coraz więcej lekarzy staje przed problemem prawidłowej kwalifikacji pacjenta z cukrzycą do amatorskiego uprawiania sportu, w tym nurkowania. W niniejszej publikacji przedstawiono najważniejsze informacje dotyczące oceny ryzyka, dopuszczenia do amatorskiego nurkowania pacjentów z cukrzycą oraz proponowanych protokołów postępowania przed i podczas uprawiania tego sportu.
Diabetes is an "epidemic of the 21st century" and it is estimated that in 2011 6.7% of Poland's population suffered from diabetes, one quarter of which was unaware of the disease. Such a high prevalence of diabetes mellitus results in an increasing number of physicians being confronted with the problem of qualifying patient with diabetes to partake in amateur sports, including diving. This publication presents the most important information concerning risk assessment, admission of diabetic patients to amateur diving and some proposed protocols of management before and during sport practice.

Artykuł porusza kwestie rozwijania kompetencji międzykulturowych w procesie niezawodowej pracy teatralnej. Pierwsza część artykułu opisuje międzykulturowe poszukiwania twórców teatralnych XX wieku, które stanowią wprowadzenie do zagadnienia międzykulturowości w działaniach teatrów podejmujących w swej pracy temat wielokulturowego dziedzictwa północno-wschodniego pogranicza Polski. W drugiej części artykułu autorka analizuje praktykę teatralną jako metodę kształtowania kompetencji międzykulturowych aktorów, realizowaną poprzez formę artystycznej pracy nad dziedzictwem przeszłości.
The author discusses the question of developing intercultural competence through amateur theatre work. The first part of the article describes intercultural explorations of theatre artists of the twentieth century, which serve as an introduction to the issue of interculturalism in the activities of amateur theaters which focused in his work on multicultural heritage of the North-Eastern Polish borderland. In the second part of the article, the author analyses the theatre as a method of forming intercultural competence of actors realized through a form of creative work on the heritage of the past.

Artykuł został poświęcony akwafortom zebranym w albumie Vues de Pologne, dedykowanym Annie (Anetce) Tyszkiewiczównie (1779-1867). Przez całe życie zajmowała się ona amatorsko twórczością artystyczną: rysowaniem, malowaniem, a przede wszystkim projektowaniem, co wycisnęło piętno na założeniach pałacowo-ogrodowych w: Wilanowie, Natolinie, Mokotowie, Jabłonnie i Zatorze. Album powstał jako rezultat – i pamiątka – pobytu w Wiedniu w 1795 r. oraz pobierania wtedy lekcji rysunku i akwaforty u francuskiego malarza Ignacego Duviviera (1758-1832), artysty przyjętego później na członka tamtejszej akademii. W podstawowej wersji zawiera – poza stroną tytułową – dziewięć widoków głównie z Warszawy i jej okolic. Tyszkiewiczówna była autorką wszystkich rysunkowych wzorów, jak też przeniesienia ich na płyty, z których powstały odbitki. W pracach tych wyraźnie przedkładała motywy pejzażowe nad wedutowe. Starała się oddawać nastrój chwili, poprzez żywą, energiczną kreskę oraz silne kontrasty walorowe. Komponowała widoki sentymentalne, subiektywne w sposobie ujęcia, bez dbałości o dokładność i realizm w odwzorowaniu rzeczywistości. Możliwe zresztą, że tę ostatnią cechę spotęgowało tworzenie wzorów z pamięci, w Wiedniu, w znacznym oddaleniu od wyobrażanych miejsc. Oceniając wartość artystyczną prac Tyszkiewiczówny – a pod względem techniki wykonania nie różnią się one wcale od dzieł nauczyciela – należy pamiętać, że są juweniliami, gdyż autorka miała zaledwie szesnaście lat. Sporządzone przez nią płyty zostały powtórnie wykorzystane na początku XIX wieku w celach komercyjnych: sześć spośród dziewięciu akwafort ozdobiło wydanie „Kalendarzyka Politycznego, Chronologicznego i Historycznego” na rok 1811, drukowanego nakładem Jana Ludwika Kocha. Na podstawie znacznej liczby odbitek – tych z 1795, jak też tych z 1811 r. – pozostających w kolekcjonerskim obiegu można wnosić o wyjątkowej jak na amatorkę popularności tej części jej dorobku. Ale po tym młodzieńczym doświadczeniu nigdy już później Anna z Tyszkiewiczów – primo voto Potocka, secundo voto Dunin-Wąsowiczowa – do techniki akwaforty nie powróciła.
The article is devoted to the etchings collected in the album Vues de Pologne, dedicated to Anna (Anetka) Tyszkiewiczówna (1779-1867). Throughout her life, she was involved in amateur artistic work: drawing, painting and, above all, design, which left its mark on the palace and garden layouts in Wilanów, Natolin, Mokotów, Jabłonna and Zator. The album was created as a result and as a memoir of her stay in Vienna in 1795. At that time she took drawing and etching lessons from the French painter Ignace Duvivier (1758-1832) – an artist that was later accepted as a member of the local academy. Apart from the title page, in its basic version the album contains nine views mainly of Warsaw and its surroundings. Tyszkiewiczówna was the author of all the drawing patterns, she also transferred them onto the printing plates. In these works she clearly preferred landscape motifs over vedutas. She tried to reflect the mood of the moment through a lively, energetic line and strong value contrasts. She composed sentimental, subjective landscapes with little care for accuracy or realism in the representation of reality. It is also possible that the latter feature was intensified by the recreation of patterns from her memory, in Vienna, far away from the portrayed places. Evaluating the artistic value of her works—in terms of the technique used they do not differ at all from the works of her teacher—one should remember that they are juvenile works since the author was only sixteen at that time. Her plates were reused at the beginning of the 19th century for commercial purposes – six out of nine etchings adorned the 1811 edition of “The Political, Chronological and Historical Calendar”, printed by Jan Ludwik Koch. On the basis of the considerable number of prints in collectors’ circulation—those from 1795 as well as those from 1811—it is possible to conclude that this part of her work is exceptionally popular for an amateur. But after this youthful experience, Anna née Tyszkiewicz, primo voto Potocka, secundo voto Dunin-Wąsowiczowa, never returned to the etching technique.

Celem tekstu jest eksploracja zmieniającego się kontekstu pracy artystów w erze Internetu na przykładzie dwóch zagadnień: relacji między artystą a odbiorcą dzieła na przykładzie crowdsourcingu oraz zacierania się granicy między profesjonalistami a amatorami na rynku pracy artystów. Powyższe zmiany towarzyszą rozwojowi sieci internetowej. Są również swoistą forpocztą zmian na innych rynkach pracy w obecnej gospodarce.
The paper’s aim is to explore the evolving context of the labor of artists in the digital age based on two aspects, that is, the relationships between artists and their audience on the example of crowdsourcing as well as blurring boundaries between professionals and amateurs on the artists’ labor market. These changes accompany the development of the Internet. In addition, they outpace the changes on the other labor markets in the economy of today.
