Opis:
We redefine a system of varieties definable by a schema of equations to include finite dimensions. Then we present a technique using ultraproducts enabling one to lift results proved for every finite dimension to the transfinite. Let \(\bf Ord\) denote the class of all ordinals. Let \(\langle \mathbf{K}_{\alpha}: \alpha\in \bf Ord\rangle\) be a system of varieties definable by a schema. Given any ordinal \(\alpha\), we define an operator \(\mathsf{Nr}_{\alpha}\) that acts on \(\mathbf{K}_{\beta}\) for any \(\beta>\alpha\) giving an algebra in \(\mathbf{K}_{\alpha}\), as an abstraction of taking \(\alpha\)-neat reducts for cylindric algebras. We show that for any positive \(k\), and any infinite ordinal \(\alpha\) that \(\mathbf{S}\mathsf{Nr}_{\alpha}\mathbf{K}_{\alpha+k+1}\) cannot be axiomatized by a finite schema over \(\mathbf{S}\mathsf{Nr}_{\alpha}\mathbf{K}_{\alpha+k}\) given that the result is valid for all finite dimensions greater than some fixed finite ordinal. We apply our results to cylindric algebras and Halmos quasipolyadic algebras with equality. As an application to our algebraic result we obtain a strong incompleteness theorem (in the sense that validitities are not captured by finitary Hilbert style axiomatizations) for an algebraizable extension of \(L_{\omega,\omega}\).

The new Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS)-based method has been developed for taking into account, in an approximate manner, the effect of external acoustic forcing on laminar-to-turbulent transition in a separated boundary layer. Experimental studies [33] report an increase of the turbulent shear stress within the separated boundary layer under the influence of acoustic forcing. Enhancement of flow disturbances in a reversed flow region was also reported in our experiment. Experimental findings stimulated the development of a reduced-order aero-acoustic strategy. The effect of acoustic forcing was incorporated into the modelling framework of an algebraic intermittency model. The model component was tuned based on our experimental data and validated on reference experiments. The results show the feasibility of the proposed model to simulate flow over a flat plate and the NACA0018 profile.

Opis:
In this paper three algorithms of motion planning for two-input, one-chained nonholonomic systems are presented. The classical Murray-Sastry algorithm is compared with two original algorithms aimed at optimizing energy of controls. Based on the generalized Campbell- Baker-Hausdorff-Dynkin formula applied to the systems, some observations are made concerning the optimal relationship between amplitudes and phases of harmonic controls. The observations help to optimize a selection of controls and to design new algorithms for planning a sub- optimal trajectory between given boundary configurations. It was also shown that for those particular systems the generalized C-B-H-D formula is valid not only locally (as in a typical case) but also globally. Simulations performed on the five-dimensional chain system facilitate distinguishing the proposed algorithms from the Murray-Sastry algorithm and to illustrate their features. Systems in a chained form are important from a practical point of view as they are canonical for a class of systems transformable into this form. The most prominent among them are mobile robots with or without trailers.

Opis:
In this paper we introduce the modelwise interpolation property of a logic that states that whenever \(\models\phi\to\psi\) holds for two formulas \(\phi\) and \(\psi\), then for every model \(\mathfrak{M}\) there is an interpolant formula \(\chi\) formulated in the intersection of the vocabularies of \(\phi\) and \(\psi\), such that \(\mathfrak{M}\models\phi\to\chi\) and \(\mathfrak{M}\models\chi\to\psi\), that is, the interpolant formula in Craig interpolation may vary from model to model. We compare the modelwise interpolation property with the standard Craig interpolation and with the local interpolation property by discussing examples, most notably the finite variable fragments of first order logic, and difference logic. As an application we connect the modelwise interpolation property with the local Beth definability, and we prove that the modelwise interpolation property of an algebraizable logic can be characterized by a weak form of the superamalgamation property of the class of algebras corresponding to the models of the logic.

Opis:
The paper discusses a non-deterministic model for data association tasks in visual surveillance of crowds. Using detection and tracking of crowd components (i.e., individuals and groups) as baseline tools, we propose a simple algebraic framework for maintaining data association (continuity of labels assigned to crowd components) between subsequent video-frames in spite of possible disruptions and inaccuracies in tracking/detection algorithms. Formally, two alternative schemes (which, in practice, can be jointly used) are introduced, depending on whether individuals or groups can be prospectively better tracked in the current scenario. In the first scheme, only individuals are tracked, and the continuity of group labels is inferred without explicitly tracking the groups. In the second scheme, only group tracking is performed, and associations between individuals are inferred from group tracking. The associations are built upon non-deterministic estimates of memberships (individuals in groups) and estimates obtained directly from the baseline detection and tracking algorithms. The framework can incorporate any detectors and trackers (both classical or DL-based) as long as they can provide some geometric outlines (e.g., bounding boxes) of the crowd components. The formal analysis is supported by experiments in sample scenarios, where the framework provides meaningful performance improvements in various crowd analysis tasks.

Opis:
The variety \(\mathbb{DHMSH}\) of dually hemimorphic semi-Heyting algebras was introduced in 2011 by the second author as an expansion of semi-Heyting algebras by a dual hemimorphism. In this paper, we focus on the variety \(\mathbb{DHMSH}\) from a logical point of view. The paper presents an extensive investigation of the logic corresponding to the variety of dually hemimorphic semi-Heyting algebras and of its axiomatic extensions, along with an equally extensive universal algebraic study of their corresponding algebraic semantics. Firstly, we present a Hilbert-style axiomatization of a new logic called "Dually hemimorphic semi-Heyting logic" (\(\mathcal{DHMSH}\), for short), as an expansion of semi-intuitionistic logic \(\mathcal{SI}\) (also called \(\mathcal{SH}\)) introduced by the first author by adding a weak negation (to be interpreted as a dual hemimorphism). We then prove that it is implicative in the sense of Rasiowa and that it is complete with respect to the variety \(\mathbb{DHMSH}\). It is deduced that the logic \(\mathcal{DHMSH}\) is algebraizable in the sense of Blok and Pigozzi, with the variety \(\mathbb{DHMSH}\) as its equivalent algebraic semantics and that the lattice of axiomatic extensions of \(\mathcal{DHMSH}\) is dually isomorphic to the lattice of subvarieties of \(\mathbb{DHMSH}\). A new axiomatization for Moisil's logic is also obtained. Secondly, we characterize the axiomatic extensions of \(\mathcal{DHMSH}\) in which the "Deduction Theorem" holds. Thirdly, we present several new logics, extending the logic \(\mathcal{DHMSH}\), corresponding to several important subvarieties of the variety \(\mathbb{DHMSH}\). These include logics corresponding to the varieties generated by two-element, three-element and some four-element dually quasi-De Morgan semi-Heyting algebras, as well as a new axiomatization for the 3-valued Łukasiewicz logic. Surprisingly, many of these logics turn out to be connexive logics, only a few of which are presented in this paper. Fourthly, we present axiomatizations for two infinite sequences of logics namely, De Morgan Gödel logics and dually pseudocomplemented Gödel logics. Fifthly, axiomatizations are also provided for logics corresponding to many subvarieties of regular dually quasi-De Morgan Stone semi-Heyting algebras, of regular De Morgan semi-Heyting algebras of level 1, and of JI-distributive semi-Heyting algebras of level 1. We conclude the paper with some open problems. Most of the logics considered in this paper are discriminator logics in the sense that they correspond to discriminator varieties. Some of them, just like the classical logic, are even primal in the sense that their corresponding varieties are generated by primal algebras.

When designing structures, it is often necessary to re-analyse a structure that is different in some parts from the original one. As real structures are often complex, their analysis is therefore very challenging. In such cases, reanalysis methods are advantageously used. The aim of this paper is to approach the problem of solving the constructions using reanalysis method in which the time taken in solving algebraic equations is reduced. In particular, the purpose of this work is to demonstrate on a chosen system the time savings and the advantages of the chosen direct efficient reanalysis method for a given design problem. A basic condition for meeting these criteria is the modernization of computational procedures in the mechanics of compliant solids.

The advantage of such spectra obtained using Galois Fields Fourier Transform is that the range of variation of the spectrum amplitudes remains the same as the range of variation of the original signal, which is modeled on discrete time functions taking values in the Galois field.

The optimal boundary feedback control is constructed in order to have on-line regulation. The above requires wellposedness of the associated Algebraic Riccati Equation. The paper by Lasiecka and Triggiani (2022) recently contributed a comprehensive study of the Optimal Control Problem for the MGT-third order dynamics with boundary control, over an infinite time-horizon. A critical missing point in such a study is the issue of uniqueness (within a specific class) of the corresponding highly non-standard Algebraic Riccati Equation. The present note resolves this problem in the positive, thus completing the study of Lasiecka and Triggiani (2022) with the final goal of having on line feedback control, which is also optimal.

Efficient use of resources is a very important consideration for every production process, especially where waste materials are used as raw materials. One example of these kinds of processes is dry ice extrusion. Based on the subject literature, it can be observed that the machines available in the market that are used to compress dry ice are characterized by high working force value. This leads to low efficiency of resource consumption, in regards to both electrical energy and carbon dioxide. This paper presents a proposed design of a test stand used for measuring compression force as a function of piston displacement in the course of the dry ice extrusion. The first part of the article presents the testing methodology and test stand design. The second part presents the results of measurement of compression force as a function of piston displacement with three different die types. The results of the study allowed to establish the difference between the values of the measured limit force and the values calculated with an analytical model. The test stand design and the results presented in this paper are important for further research and development works in the area of efficient extrusion and compaction of dry ice.

We describe an approach for efficient solution of large-scale convective heat transfer problems that are formulated as coupled unsteady heat conduction and incompressible fluid-flow equations. The original problem is discretized over time using classical implicit methods, while stabilized finite elements are used for space discretization. The algorithm employed for the discretization of the fluid-flow problem uses Picard’s iterations to solve the arising nonlinear equations. Both problems (the heat transfer and Navier–Stokes equations) give rise to large sparse systems of linear equations. The systems are solved by using an iterative GMRES solver with suitable preconditioning. For the incompressible flow equations, we employ a special preconditioner that is based on an algebraic multigrid (AMG) technique. This paper presents algorithmic and implementation details of the solution procedure, which is suitably tuned – especially for ill-conditioned systems that arise from discretizations of incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. We describe a parallel implementation of the solver using MPI and elements from the PETSC library. The scalability of the solver is favorably compared with other methods, such as direct solvers and the standard GMRES method with ILU preconditioning.
