Opis:
Experiments on hot rubidium vapor as an atomic medium with electromagnetically induced transparency for radiation of 795 nm wavelength (D1 absorption line of rubidium) are reported. Propagation of light pulses with velocity reduced to 11.5 km/s has been observed with a significant modification of the shape of square input pulses to adapt to the spectral window of induced transparency. So-called light storage, i.e. suspension of the propagation of light pulses in the medium by temporary turn-off of the electromagnetically induced transparency state was also demonstrated. "Storage" periods of several microseconds, limited by relatively fast relaxation of atomic spin polarization in the volume of interaction of atoms with radiation, were obtained.

Opis:
Canine parvovirus disease appeared in the world and in Europe during the second half of the 1970s. Over the course of 40 years the original CPV-2 strains mutated and variants 2a, 2b and 2c appeared. Their appearance is connected with specific amino acid changes, mainly in the capsid protein VP2. Strains isolated by the authors were adapted for in vitro cell culture. Phylogenetic analysis revealed differences between strains isolated in Poland in 1982-1985 and in 1995-2009. Strains from the 1980s were shown to belong to variant CPV-2a (11 strains) and variant 2b (2 strains), while no fundamental differences were found among the genetic profiles of the strains from 1995-2009, which were classified as belonging to variant 2c.

Opis:
ST, IL i FBD.
The paper describes an extension of CPDev programming and runtime environment for building control applications using Function Block Diagrams (FBD). The diagrams are converted into ST language compiled into executable binary code. XML format derived from PLCOpen standard is used to store FBD structure and library of function blocks. Due to the extension, the CPDev environment supports now ST, IL and FBD languages of IEC 61131-3 standard.

Opis:
Polyurethanes are biocompatible materials commonly used in medical applications, mainly as coatings for vascular grafts and artificial hearts. There are many methods to increase hemocompatibility of polyurethane surfaces. Presented study was undertaken to obtain hydrophobic polyurethane coatings by silicone and perfl uorocarbohydrate modification. The aim of this work was to obtain smooth and homogenous coatings, as porous materials are likely to cause blood coagulation. Surface analysis (IR spectroscopy and scanning acoustic microscopy) revealed that the applied method allows to modify polyurethane surface successfully. An increase in material hydrophobicity was confirmed contact angle measurement.

Opis:
Presented study was undertaken to fabricate a hemocompatible material that could be a potential candidate for use in fabrication of blood-contacting devices, e.g. circulatory support devices, vessel grafts, heart valves. The final material could be used as a scaffold for endothelial cell growth and initiate in situ endothelialisation. The newest and most promising strategy in material endothelialization involves introduction of short peptide sequences that can selectively address one particular type of cell adhesion receptors and promote cell adhesion. Thus, the aim of work was to elaborate a method of immobilizing peptides specific for integrins onto polymer substrate.

Opis:
The purpose of the study was the in vivo diagnosing of E. cuniculi invasions in pet rabbits with neurological symptoms using the Real-Time PCR, and determination of the rate of invasion, in this group of animals. The study involved 103 pet rabbits with neurological symptoms. Parasitic invasions were diagnosed using Real-Time PCR. The DNA of the parasites for molecular tests was isolated from the urine of the diseased animals. Out of the 103 tested DNA samples, the presence of the E. cuniculi genetic material was detected in 27 samples (26.21%). The melting temperature (Tm) of all products was 77.5℃. The presence of parasitic DNA in the urine of 26.21% of examined animals indicates that E. cuniculi infections occur widely in pet rabbits in Poland and are a significant cause of neurological disorders in those animals.

The results of the microstructural and dielectric measurements of (Ba1-xPbx)(Ti1-xSnx)O3 (BPTSx) (x = 0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.30) polycrystalline samples are presented. The samples were obtained by means of a high temperature synthesis and their expected stoichiometry was confirmed by energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) measurements. The dielectric properties of BPTSx were studied with the use of broadband dielectric spectroscopy. The measurements over a wide range of temperature (from 140 K to 600 K) and frequency (from 0.1 Hz to 10 MHz) were performed. The experimental results indicate an influence of Pb ions in a sublattice A and Sn ions in a sublattice B substitution on paraelectric - ferroelectric phase transition parameters. Diffused phase transitions from a paraelectric to ferroelectric state (for x = 0.10 and x = 0.30) were observed. From the electric modulus measurements in the frequency domain the relaxation times and the activation energy were determined.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to use matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) for the identification of coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) isolated from the milk of cows with subclinical mastitis. The study material consisted of 33 isolates of CNS, identified by the results of API Staph tests, obtained from the milk of cows with subclinical mastitis. Based on the spectra analyses, MALDI-TOF MS tests of 33 bacterial samples allowed identification of the microorganisms in 27 cases (81.8%). The most frequent cause of subclinical mastitis was found to be Staphylococcus sciuri (39%), while S. vitulinus was detected in 15% of the milk samples. The results obtained indicate that MALDI-TOF MS can be used for the identification of CNS isolated from bovine mastitis as a method supplementary to biochemical tests.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to perform molecular analysis of canine adenovirus 2 (CAV-2) E1B 19K gene fragment isolated from 20 dogs of various breeds (12 males and 8 females aged 1-9 years), with clinical symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections, from the Lubelszczyzna region. Nasal swabs were taken from dogs. DNA of CAV-2 was detected using the PCR method in 16 swabs. All PCR products were sequenced, and the obtained sequences were compared with each other and with the sequence of the E1B 19K gene of the CAV-2 strain from an online database of NCBI GenBank: AC 000003. Based on analysis of the obtained sequences, three polymorphic variants of CAV-2 (No.1-3) with homology of 78 - 100% were distinguished. The nucleotide and amino acid sequences of the most frequently represented polymorphic variant, No. 1, differed from the sequences of polymorphic variant No. 2 with one substitution. The nucleotide and amino acid sequence of the E1B 19K gene of CAV-2 AC 000003 differed from the analogous sequences of representatives of variant No. 1 with 44 nucleotide and 19 amino acid substitutions. The small number of nucleotide differences in the E1B 19K CAV-2 gene among the examined own isolates, compared with AC 000003, suggest that the infections in dogs were caused by a relatively genetically stable virus which occurs in eastern Poland.

Opis:
The outbreak of World War II found the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) divided into two fractions: the supporters of Stepan Bandera and those of Andrij Melnyk. The conflict was based on differences on the strategy of struggle for independence as well as on the generation conflict. Bandera, representing young national activists, was of the opinion that OUN's actions in the lands occupied by the Soviets should be intensified, and its politics should be independent of any outer factors. Melnyk, in turn, who managed the OUN's Prowid, (Leadership) was supported by Ukrainian emigration circles – by veterans of World War I and of struggle for independence of the years 1917-1921. He represented the conservative wing, opting for a closer collaboration with the Third Reich, in whose politics he saw the factor that could change the Versailles order. In the years 1940-1941 the final split happened in the OUN. Two organizations emerged, which started fighting each other: OUN-M [supporters of Melnyk] and OUN-B [supporters of Bandera]. Despite the differences concerning the strategy, both the fractions collaborated to a varying degree with the Germans, getting their support for their own initiatives on the self-government, cultural, economic and military planes. Both Bandera's and Melnyk's groups treated the German aggression on the USSR as a breakthrough in their attempts to regain independence. However, too much activity, as well as too much autonomy in them, especially on the side of Bandera's camp, that exceeded the limits set by the German leaders, led to a change in German policy towards the Ukrainian nationalists and to use of repressions against them. This, in turn, made the two fractions pass to the underground, which starting from 1942 assumed the form of resistance movement. The greatest achievement of the nationalist resistance movement was forming the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) that ultimately was controlled by OUN-B. UPA started to fight at the same time the German occupational troops, the Soviet guerillas and the Polish underground forces striving after independence. OUN-B and UPA are also responsible for mass murders they committed on Polish inhabitants of Volhynia and Eastern Galicia. Starting with 1943 the nationalist movement represented by OUN-B and OUN-M started slowly to depart from extreme nationalism and the fascist principle of leadership, accepting the rules of pluralism and democracy.
