Opis:
The aim of this study was to design a prescriptive exercise program for people of various age and fitness basing on the popular in Japan Radio Physical Fitness Exercise, a program based on an experimental approach. The evaluation indices used in the experiment were heart rate (HR), oxygen consumption, and electrical activity of the rectus femoris, latissimus dorsi, and trapezius muscles, which measured during various motion elements of the program performed at various rate. The results of this study enable to calculate equations for predicting HR during exercise from relative metabolic rate (RMR). The data on HR, RMR, and myoelectric potential presented in this study may be a basis for designing individual exercise programs for elderly people.

Opis:
Glass materials have been widely used in optical components in recent years. The purpose of this study was to develop an effective method for real-time detection of the state of cutting tools used in end milling of hard brittle materials. Cutting tests were performed to identify parameters that are useful in monitoring micro tool wear in glass milling. A specific component of the cutting force was found to be related to the progression of tool wear. Furthermore, using fast Fourier transform (FFT) analysis, the peak amplitudes of the cutting forces were found to occur at a specific frequency.

Opis:
This study evaluated the accuracy and reproducibility of a human portable blood glucose meter (PBGM) for canine and feline whole blood. Reference plasma glucose values (RPGV) were concurrently measured using glucose oxidation methods. Fifteen healthy dogs and 6 healthy cats were used for blood sampling. Blood glucose concentrations and hematocrits were adjusted using pooled blood samples for our targeted values. A positive correlation between the PBGM and RPGV was found for both dogs (y = 0.877, x = −24.38, r = 0.9982, n = 73) and cats (y = 1.048, x = −27.06, r = 0.9984, n = 69). Acceptable results were obtained in error grid analysis between PBGM and RPGV in both dogs and cats; 100% of these results were within zones A and B. Following ISO recommendations, a PBGM is considered accurate if 95% of the measurements are within ± 15 mg/dl of the RPGV when the glucose concentration is <100 mg/dl and within ±15% when it is ≥100 mg/dl; however, small numbers of samples were observed inside the acceptable limits for both dogs (11%, 8 of 73 dogs) and cats (39%, 27 of 69 cats). Blood samples with high hematocrits induced lower whole blood glucose values measured by the PBGM than RPGV under hypoglycemic, normoglycemic, and hyperglycemic conditions in both dogs and cats. Therefore, this device is not clinically useful in dogs and cats. New PBGMs which automatically compensate for the hematocrit should be developed in veterinary practice.

Opis:
There is a need for efficient stem cell-to-tenocyte differentiation techniques for tendon tissue engineering. More than 1 week is required for tenogenic differentiation with chemical stimuli, including co-culturing. Research has begun to examine the utility of mechanical stimuli, which reduces the differentiation time to several days. However, the precise length of time required to differentiate human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs) into tenocytes has not been clarified. Understanding the precise time required is important for future tissue engineering projects. Therefore, in this study, a method was developed to more precisely determine the length of time required to differentiate hBMSCs into tenocytes with cyclic stretching stimulus. Methods: First, it had to be determined how stretching stimulation affected the cells. Microgrooved culture membranes were used to suppress cell orientation behavior. Then, only cells oriented parallel to the microgrooves were selected and evaluated for protein synthesis levels for differentiation. Results: The results revealed that growing cells on the microgrooved membrane and selecting optimally-oriented cells for measurement improved the accuracy of the differentiation evaluation, and that hBMSCs differentiated into tenocytes in approximately 10 h. Conclusions: The differentiation time corresponded to the time required for cellular cytoskeleton reorganization and cellular morphology alterations. This suggests that cells, when subjected to mechanical stimulus, secrete mRNAs and proteins for both cytoskeleton reorganization and differentiation.

Opis:
Novel Sugar Dendritic Gd-DTPA Complexes for MRI Contrast Agents were prepared and evaluated by in vitro and in vivo methods. The sugar dendritic MRI contrast agents have a good blood vesse pool character, and draw blood vessels and liver cancer remarkably clearer than the clinically using Gd-DTPA. Phospha sugar derivatives or phosphorus heterocyclic derivatives provided by functional groups such as epoxide, bromide, etc., were prepared and evaluated by MTT in vitro method. These phospha sugar derivatives showed excellent activities against leukemia cells as well as solid cancer cells in fashions of (i) higher activity, (ii) wider spectra, (iii) higher selectivity and specificity distingushing healthy and cancer cells, etc., compared with the molecular targeting chemotheraputic anti-cancer agent, Gleevec.
