    W niniejszym artykule termin „Żydzi” zostaje ukazany jako klucz interpretacyjny do głębszego zrozumienia historii i teologii Ewangelii Janowej. Najpierw autor dokonuje analizy terminu „Żydzi” w szerszym kontekście źródeł żydowskich (Stary Testament, teksty qumrańskie, literatura rabiniczna, Józef Flawiusz, Filon z Aleksandrii) i chrześcijańskich (Nowy Testament, literatura patrystyczna). Następnie zostaje ukazana specyfika terminu „Żydzi”, występującego 72 razy na kartach czwartej Ewangelii. Autor wyodrębnia różne znaczenia tego terminu (regionalne, ogólne, etniczne i religijne), a szczególnie zainteresowany jest negatywnym użyciem terminu „Żydzi” w 37 tekstach Janowych. Łącząc metody diachroniczne i synchroniczne w podejściu do tego terminu, autor stara się odpowiedzieć na pytania, kim są „Żydzi” Janowi oraz jaką funkcję spełniają oni w narracji Janowej. Analizowany termin jest interpretowany w aspekcie historycznym, socjologicznym, symbolicznym, narratywnym i psychologicznym. Na podstawie przeprowadzonej analizy tego terminu autor ukazuje jego znaczenie dla lepszego zrozumienia kontekstu historycznego i teologicznego Ewangelii Janowej.
    In the present article the term “Jews” is shown as the interpretative key for the better understanding of history and theology of the Gospel of John. First the author makes analysis of the term “Jews” in the wider context of Jewish sources (Old Testament, Qumran texts, rabbinic literature, Josephus Flavius and Philon of Alexandria) and Christian sources (New Testament, patristic literature). Then the author describes the specific meaning of the term “Jews” which occurs 72 times in the Fourth Gospel. He distinguishes various meanings if this term (regional, general, ethnic and religious). He is especially interested in the negative use of this term in 37 texts of the Gospel of John. Connecting diachronical and synchronical methods in the interpretation of the term “Jews” he tries to answer on the questions: who are the Johannine “Jews”? and how is the function of the term “Jews” in the narrative of John? He makes analysis in historical, sociological, symbolical, narrative and psychological interpretation. On the basis of wide analysis of the Johannine “Jews” the author shows its important meaning for better understanding of historical and theological context of the Fourth Gospel.

    In the present article the author shows the different attitudes of Pharisees and Sadducees regarding the life after death and resurrection. First he describes the motives and the nature of Pharisaic faith in resurrection in the context of Old Testament, Josephus Flavius sources, and Apocryphal Literature. Then he shows the views of Sadducees who rejected the reality of life after death. At the end he describes novum of the teaching of Jesus about resurrection which can be better understood in the context of His discussion with Pharisees and Sadducees.

    L'autore presenta il probierna dell'autorita nel IV Vangelo e lo situa sullo sfondo della teologia di Giovanni. Si parte dall'individuare i testi, in cui si trova la parola exousia. La lettura di questi testi permette di discutere diversi aspetti dell'autorita presentati nel IV Vangelo: l'autorita del Padre, l'autorita del Figlio, l'autorita dei nemici di Dio e l'autorita dei discepoli. Il Padre e la Fonte e ił Soggetto dell'autorita, la quale comunica al Figlio. Gesu attraverso la sua missione, la quale culmina nella morte sulla croce, rivela l' essenza dell 'autorita com e Amore e Vita. In questo modo Gesu vince l'autorita delle tenebre e del peccato. La vittoriosa missione del Figlio si prolunga nella vita dei suoi discepoli, i quali grazie allo Spirito Santo partecipano nel mistero salvifico di Dio Padre.

    Niniejszy artykuł stanowi analizę znaczenia i funkcji Jana Chrzciciela jako świadka Jezusa Chrystusa w czwartej Ewangelii. Aktywność Jana Chrzciciela jako prekursora i świadka Mesjasza zostaje ukazana w szerszym kontekście narracji Janowej, w której  świadectwo Ojca, świadectwo Syna i świadectwo Ducha Świętego ma fundamentalne znaczenie dla zrozumienia teologicznego i egzystencjalnego orędzia czwartej Ewangelii. Artykuł złożony jest z trzech części: 1. Terminologia i znaczenie świadectwa w czwartej Ewangelii; 2. Jan Chrzciciel jako świadek w narracji Ewangelii Janowej; 3. Teologiczne implikacje posłannictwa Jana Chrzciciela jako świadka Chrystusa. W niniejszym artykule autor ukazuje, że świadectwo Jana Chrzciciela nie traci nic na swojej aktualności dla współczesnego człowieka XXI wieku.

    In polemical dialogue Jn 8:31-59 the expression about "the Jews w ho had believed in Jesus" (v. 31) seems to contradict what Jesus himself says later in the text. This problem can be resolved by translating the perfect participle as the pluperfect. In this case the expression in Jn 8:31 may be referred to those who had believed but who now believe no longer. The analysis of this expression shows the importance of the concept of faith in the Fourth Gospel. The process of faith of persons who meet Jesus is contrasted with those who do not believe. In the background of ethical and apocalyptical dualism the author of the Fourth Gospel wanted to show the dynamism ofthe faith and its existential nature.

    In the seventeenth chapter of the Gospel according to St. John, also called the prayer of the High Priest, John's priestly theology is clearly evident. On the one band Jesus is presented as a Priest: He is the Mediator relating the revelation of the Father; called and sent by the Father; fulfills the will of the Father and knows the Father; reveals to people the Glory of God; it is the New Sanctuary opening up to people entrance into eternal life; "perfected" by doing the "works"; "the hour"- the time of Sacrifice inspired by love. On the other band, His disciples remain called to participate in His priesthood. They ought to accomplish this through: remaining in the teaching-revelation brought by Jesus and brotherly love, by faith, by bringing fruit, and the unity of the ecclesiological community. The Spirit - Paraclete makes it possible for them to fully participate in Jesus' priesthood, allowing them to participate in His mystery, made present in the sacraments. Jesus the Highest Priest is the model o f true service and sacrifice for the first Christian community. Through the view of priestly theology, John the Evangelist strongly brings out the Father-Son relationship and points out the role of the disciples, who thanks to the strength of the Paraclete can undertake in their lives service and sacrifice for Love.

    One of the most important features of the members of the Qumran community, who referred to themselves by the name “the sons of light,” was aspiration to holiness by observing the Law, purity and cult. The spirituality of the Qumran community was founded on the New Covenant which would be fulfilled “at the end of the days”. This eschatological reality was stressed in the practical spirituality of the members of the Qumran community. In the present article, the spirituality of the Qumran community will be presented via three points: (1) The origin of the Qumran community; (2) The community of a New Covenant with God; and (3) Eschatological beliefs. Our accumulated knowledge about the spirituality of the Qumran community and its beliefs enables us to better understand many eschatological texts of the Old Testament and Intertestamental Literature. It also indicates to us certain similarities and differences with the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth.

    W niniejszym artykule została podjęta problematyka relacji pomiędzy Synagogą i Kościołem w kontekście pism Janowych. Autor analizuje teksty tradycji Janowej wskazując na ślady polemiki między judaizmem i chrześcijaństwem. Przez pryzmat terminów aposunagōgos, i „Żydzi” oraz polemicznych wyrażeń zostaje ukazana wrogość pomiędzy Synagogą i Kościołem. Autor ukazuje Sitz im Leben wspólnoty Janowej badając wpływ polemiki między judaizmem rabincznym a chrześcijaństwem po zburzeniu świątyni jerozolimskiej na treść tekstów Janowych. Analiza źródeł żydowskich i chrześcijańskich wskazuje na napięcie spowodowane chęcią utrwalenia własnej tożsamości. Prowadzi to do  stopniowego rozchodzenie się dróg Synagogi i Kościoła. W artykule zostają ukazane motywy rozejścia się dróg i ich znaczenie dla współczesnego dialogu pomiędzy judaizmem i chrześcijaństwem.
    In the present article the author describes the issue of relation between Synagogue and Church in the context of Johannine writings. The author makes analysis of the Johannine texts in order to show the traces of polemic between Judaism and Christianity. He shows the hostility between Synagogue and Church in the light of terms like aposunagōgos, “Jews” and other polemical expressions which occur in the Gospel of John, in the Letters of John and the Book of Revelation. The author tries to answer the question of how Sitz im Leben of the Johannine writings influences their content. The analysis of Jewish and Christian sources shows the tension and hostility between Rabbinic Judaism and Johannine Community after the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple. It leads to gradual separation between Synagogue and Church. In this article there are shown the reasons for the parting of the ways between Judaism and Christianity and its meaning for the contemporary dialogue between Synagogue and Church.
    Im folgenden Artikel wird die Problematik des Verhältnisses zwischen der Synagoge und der Kirche im Kontext der johanneischen Schriften untersucht. Der Autor analysiert die Texte der johanneischen Tradition mit der besonderen Aufmerksamkeit auf die Spuren der Polemik zwischen Judaismus und Christentum. Anhand der Begriffe aposunagōgos und "Juden" sowie der polemischen Wendungen wird die Feindschaft zwischen der Synagoge und der Kirche dargestellt. Der Autor zeigt Sitz im Leben der johanneischen Gemeinschaft, indem er den Einfluss der Polemik zwischen dem rabbinischen Judaismus und dem Christentum nach der Zerstörung des Tempels in Jerusalem auf den Inhalt der johanneischen Texte untersucht. Die Analyse der judaistischen und christlichen Quellen zeigt eine Spannung, verursacht durch die Bemühungen, die eigene Identität zu festigen. Dies führt zum fortschreitenden Auseinanderdriften der Wege der Synagoge und der Kirche. Im Artikel werden Motive dieser Spaltung dargelegt sowie deren Bedeutung für den gegenwärtigen Dialog zwischen Judaismus und Christentum.

    Introduction. The concept of targeted drug delivery is nowadays based on nanoparticle transporters. Such drug delivery systems for cancer cells should follow the requirements like: efficient drug release, selective binding and internalization to cancer cells. The anticancer drug selectivity can be achieved by attachment of cancer cell-recognizing molecules, like biotin. Among nanosized carriers the PAMAM dendrimers are tested intensely, especially they can be modified by covalent attachment of prodrug molecules and biotin as targeting molecule. Aim. We aimed at construction and characterization of a conjugate formed between PAMAM and biotin (Biot). The nuclear magnetic resonances is powerful tool to determine both the structure and stoichiometry of the conjugate. Material and methods. PAMAM G0 has been synthesized and functionalized with biotin by reaction with N-hydroxysuccinimide ester of biotin to obtain G0 double-substituted with biotin. All the compound were thoroughly characterized by the NMR spectroscopy. Results. The conjugate of PAMAM G0 dendrimer with two amide-bonded biotin molecules was obtained and fully characterized by NMR spectroscopy. Conclusion. N-hydroxysuccinimide ester of biotin spontaneously reacts with PAMAM G0 to obtain the conjugate of 2:1 biotin:G0 stoichiometry. The latter was designed as a targeting molecule in formation of megameric multidrug delivery system.

    We investigated suppression of murine B16(F10) melanoma tumor growth following a therapy which involved concomitant administration of cyclophosphamide and plasmid DNA bearing interleukin-12 gene. Since both therapeutic factors display antiangiogenic capabilities, we assumed that their use in blocking the formation of new blood vessels would result in augmented inhibition of tumor growth. This combined therapy regimen indeed resulted in a considerable suppression of tumor growth. We observed a statistically significant extension of treated animals' lifespan. Interestingly, the therapeutic effect was also obtained using a plasmid without an interleukin gene insert. This observation suggests that plasmid DNA, which has been widely applied for treating neoplastic tumors, contains element(s) that elicit immune response in mice.

    Artykuł stanowi zachętę do odczytywania na nowo Wesela Stanisława Wyspiańskiego. Zawarte w tym szkicu propozycje interpretacyjne akcentują zwłaszcza znaczenie obrzędu wesela jako rytuału przejścia w dramacie, nie dość docenianą rolę postaci kobiecych wpisanych w rytmy życia, śmierci i odradzającego się życia w utworze Wyspiańskiego oraz istotną w dramacie symbolikę powietrza i wiatru. Autorka przywołuje też osobiste i rodzinne wspomnienia związane z odbiorem dzieła Wyspiańskiego w teatrze.
    This article aims to encourage new interpretative readings of Stanisław Wyspiański’s play The Wedding. Special emphasis is put on accentuating the role of the wedding ritual as a rite of passage, highlighting the often underappreciated role of female characters inscribed into the cycle of life, death, and rebirth, and underscores the symbolism of the element of air and wind in the play. Finally, the article evokes personal and familial reminiscences of the reception of the play on the theatre stage.

    Introduction and objectives. Nowadays, one of the treatment options for patients with refractory epilepsy is polytherapy with two or more antiepileptic drugs (AEDs). Retigabine (RTG) is a novel third-generation AED with unique molecular mechanisms of action that has recently been approved as an add-on drug for the treatment of tonic-clonic seizures. To characterize types of interactions between RTG and topiramate (TPM – a second-generation AED), the maximal electroshock- induced seizure model (MES) and chimney test in mice were used. Materials and method. In the MES model, the anticonvulsant effects of the drugs in terms of suppression of tonic-clonic seizures in male albino Swiss mice were assessed. In the chimney test, the acute neurotoxic effects of the drugs with respect to impairment of motor coordination were determined. Type I isobolographic analysis for the combination of RTG and TPM was applied to assess the anticonvulsant and neurotoxic effects in both the MES and chimney tests. Total brain concentrations of RTG and TPM were measured to exclude any pharmacokinetic interaction between drugs. Results. The type I isobolographic analysis of interaction revealed that the combination of RTG with TPM produced additive interaction in the MES test and additivity, with a slight tendency towards antagonism in terms of acute neurotoxic effects in the chimney test. Neither RTG nor TPM mutually affected total brain concentrations in the experimental animals. Conclusions. The isobolographically analyzed combination of RTG with TPM is favourable and may be recommended to some patients with refractory epilepsy.

    Introduction and aim. Poorly soluble anticancer drugs can be attached covalently into biologically inert macromolecule in order to administrate a drug as water soluble form. It was proven that covalent linkers, for instance amide or carbamate bonds are susceptible to hydrolysis. Thus the attached drug can be released from the conjugates in tissue, specifically within the targeted cell. We aimed at construction of water soluble conjugates of Fulvestrant and Paclitaxel with PAMAM G4 dendrimer. In order to obtain water soluble conjugates the amine groups were substituted with R-glycidol. Material and methods. Polyamidoamine dendrimer of fourth generation was synthesized and examined by detailed NMR analysis in water and in DMSO. The conjugates were covalently linked to amine groups of PAMAM after activation of Fulvestrant 17-OH group with 4-nitrophenylchloroformate and activation of end-carboxyl group of Paclitaxel succinate. Results. The method of binary conjugate PAMAMG4-Fulvestrant-Paclitaxel synthesis was elaborated and the product was characterized by physicochemical methods. Conclusion. The glycidylated PAMAMG4-Fulvestrant-Paclitaxel conjugate is better soluble in water than unconverted drugs.

    Upbringing and education was a matter of great importance among the Polish landed gentry. The education of male descendants was particularly essential, because they were expected to hold important office, increase the family’s wealth and possessions and become a source of pride to the family in the future. According to Stanislaw Kostka Zamoyski XII, Majoratsherr in Zamość, the family home set the best example of upbringing to the younger family members. Therefore, children needed to have positive role models in their parents, who would provide them with advice, care and look after them. Small children were introduced to harsh conditions of everyday life. In order to positively shape children’s personalities, to help them to become open, gentle, reasonable, and kind people, teachers were not allowed to set them a bad example. The XII Majoratsherr’s children in Zamość were raised by parents who called for strict obedience and respect. Stanisław Kostka Zamoyski’s daughter Celina Działyńska raised her offspring in the same manner. She taught them respect for ordinary people – service and help for the needy. The above mentioned methods produced a positive effect in the future. Children raised in this way became aware of their responsibilities to the family and homeland.

    This article is an attempt to re-read Tadeusz Miciński's poem ‘Blood-red Snow’ (‘Krwawy śnieg’, 1914) in the context of a tragedy that took place in February 1914 at Zakopane, or more precisely, in Kościeliska Valley in the Tatras. It was there that Jadwiga Janczewska, Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz's fiancée, took her life by shooting himself in the head. Her suicide prompted Miciński, a close friend of Witkiewicz, to write the ‘Blood-red Snow’, a poetic reportage infused with ambiguity, which presents a highly subjective vision of the tragic event and its circumstances. Read out of context, the poem seems be just another product of the poet's fascination with the philosophy of the occult (Luciferianism). However, when its real-life context is restored, the heady symbolism turns out to be a camouflage of a poème à clef, a genre which ‘Blood-red Snow’ actually exemplifies. The poem is an instant reaction to a dramatic event. To make sense of it one does not need to be familiar with the whole story of the relations between Miciński and Witkiewicz. What is perhaps worth noting is that their relationship soured after Jadwiga Janczewska's suicide, which triggered an unending blame game on all sides. While the public held Witkiewicz responsible for the young woman's death, he himself put the blame on Miciński and, first and foremost, on Karol Szymanowski. These controversies are, however, beyond the scope of the 'Blood-red Snow'.
