Opis:
This article was written as a result of the discovery of a manuscript copy of a letter from Bishop Jan Paweł Woronicz to Franciszek Morawski in the collection of the Czartoryski Library in Krakow (fonds: Adam Jerzy Czartoryski. Korespondencja [1806–1853] – Woronicz Jan biskup krakowski). In the document, the priest raised the topic of his planned collective publication of all sermons and speeches delivered during the funeral of Prince Adam Kazimierz Czartoryski. He was assisted in this project by historian Karol Sienkiewicz. Woronicz planned to have the collection published in 1826 by the Jan Bogumił Korn Printing House in Wrocław and have it feature a portrait of the late prince. Therefore, on the basis of the 54th issue of "Kurier Litewski" from 1823, as well as manuscripts and prints from the Czartoryski Library related to the funeral of Prince Czartoryski (fonds: Adam Kazimierz Czartoryski: Mowy i kazania pogrzebowe oraz wiersze na śmierć ś.p. Adama [Kazimierza] Księcia Czartoryskiego Generała Ziem Podolskich and Adam Kazimierz Czartoryski Pogrzebowe księcia Adama [Kazimierza] Czartoryskiego Generała Ziem Podolskich w r. 1823 – różne zapisy i rozporządzenia), it was established that a total of nineteen speeches and sermons were delivered during the funeral ceremonies, which began in Sieniawa in March and ended in Warsaw in April 1823. This, in turn, made it possible to determine what might have been the content of the bishop’s planned, but ultimately not printed, publication. Moreover, the article includes a letter from Morawski to Bishop Woronicz, which is kept in the same archival fonds as the copy of the clergyman’s letter. The manuscript is an important addition to the described issue. It focuses on the inscription on the bust of Czartoryski, whose author was Princess Maria Wirtemberska. Morawski’s task was to edit this text so that it would fit on the prince’s monument. The letters compiled in the article show that both Bishop Woronicz and his contemporaries were attached to Prince Czartoryski, which was reflected in the planned publication of speeches and sermons, including the appropriately arranged inscription on the bust.

Opis:
The subject of the article is the analysis of the archaic and obsolete vocabulary in Jan Pawel Woronicz’s 19th-Century Hymn do Boga. The vocabulary of the poem can be divided into two groups: 1)Vocabulary cited by Doroszewski’s Dictionary of the Polish Language (SJPD) - 77.4%; 2)Vocabulary not cited in SJPD - 22.6%. The majority (69.3%) of vocabulary cited by SJPD are obsolete, archaic and historic words with relevant qualifiers in the Dictionary. Only a handful (8.1%) of words have the expressive qualifier literary. The vocabulary not cited by SJPD constitute a separate group. Only a few of them can be found in Linde’s Dictionary. Those words were created by Woronicz himself, whose poetry, in Klemensiewicz’s words, „is abundant with neologisms”. In Hymn do Boga the poet used a number of neologisms, not cited by the dictionaries of general Old Polish and contemporary Polish. Klemensiewicz mentions them in vol. 2 of his Historia języka polskiego.

Opis:
This article introduces the poblematic aspects of time and space in poetry of the priest Jan Paweł Woronicz (1757 – 1829). The above – mentioned categories in this poetry serve as awakeners of the national consciousness and identity with the purpose of integrating the nation in the difficult historic perid following the third partition of Poland. The output of the poet is full of references to historical abd biblical figures thanks to whom he performs a kind of synthesis – a prophetic vision of the rebirth of national identity. The concept of time and space is enriched and complemented with references to situations from the personal life of the author and his knowledge of travels. He was also sensitiveto the beauty of the landscape and made references to a mythical pleasent place, otium of nature. He expressed this in different genres of occasional poetry, among which there are songs, panegiryc poems and pastorals.

Opis:
The subject of analysis and interpretation in the article Dragons, flashes and torches as elements of the literary vision of decline in Jan Paweł Woronicz’s the post-partition works is Jan Paweł Woronicz’s writings (poetry, sermons and homilies), who lived from 1757–1829. Through the careful observation of the language used in Woronicz’s works, the author tries to extract metaphors which show a sense of apathy and decline at the turn of the century. The author also attempts to reach the substructure of the preacher-poet’s thinking and to make a critical reflection on the state of culture in a specific period of time — namely the last years of the 18th century and the first decades of the 19th century. She treats metaphors not only as stylistic means, but also as visible signs (phenomena) of feelings towards the world, and recognizes at the same time that Woronicz’s work is one of many testimonies to the intensified intellectual and cultural movement of Poland at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. In the article, the author presents Woronicz as a representative of time “in between,” and as an individual who has experienced something new, an often difficult situation that occurred within the framework of intense changes to the political and aesthetic paradigm that took place at the turn of the centuries.

Opis:
The article is interested in following the history of the reception of the exceptional example of fifteenth-century poetry in Polish Pieśń o Wiklefie by Jędrzej Gałka of Dobczyn in the period between the discovery of the text in 1815 and the beginning of the First World War. The author discusses the reception of Pieśń o Wiklefie in later works of the Enlightenment poets as well as in texts by Mickiewicz and Norwid (the latter was friends with the poet Antoni Czajkowski, whose father first published Pieśń o Wiklefie). The article concludes with a discussion of the intellectual contacts between the logician Michał Dziewicki – one of the publishers of Wycliffe’s works – and Wittgenstein, who served in the military in Cracow.
