    Pleonasms and tautologies constitute a distinguishing feature of Wojna polsko-ruska pod flagą biało-czerwoną. This type of repetitions functions as linguistic jokes and describes characters of the novel. The translator into Russian followed various strategies when dealing with pleonasms and tautologies. However, only some of them maintained their pleonastic character, while others were ‘corrected’ in line with the rules of modern Russian. The overtone of some elements was neutralised, yet the translator strengthened some pleonasms, duplicating the repetitious elements. It can be said that lack of consistency when translating pleonasms and tautologies shows that the translator did not understand their role in Masłowska’s text. Despite the translator’s declarations that she aimed at keeping the novel’s linguistic humour, in a number of instances it has been lost.

    Artykuł Wojna polsko-ruska pod flagą…. zielono-biało-czerwoną poświęcono analizie włoskiego tłumaczenia pierwszej powieści Doroty Masłowskiej. Autor eseju koncentruje się głównie na wyborach leksykalnych tłumacza, a także krótko omawia wybrane jego prace. Nie pretenduje do przeprowadzenia pełnej charakterystyki przekładu, ale raczej do próby częściowej odpowiedzi na pytanie, ile z tej „artystycznie zepsutej polskiej” powieści pozostaje w wersji włoskiej.
    The article “Polish-Russian War under”… green-white-red flag is devoted to the analysis of the Italian translation of Dorota Masłowska’s first novel. The author of the essay concentrates mainly on translator’s lexical choices, as well as briefly overviews selected efforts made by the translator. The article does not pretend to be a complete characteristic of the translation but is rather an attempt to partly answer the question of how much of this “artistically broken Polish” novel remains in the Italian version.

    Dorota Masłowska’s Wojna polsko-ruska pod flagą biało-czerwoną employs various types of linguistic innovations. One of them is a mistaken selection of the number of nouns. This stylistic means results in linguistic humour. In the Russian translation of the novel reflecting this phenomenon should not pose any problems. However, neither of the instances of the stylistic means analysed in the paper was reflected in the Russian target text. It is difficult to determine why the translator did not attempt to show Russian readers a reconstruction of the language of the Polish text. As a result, Irina Lappo’s translation lacks the poetic qualities and refreshing touches of Masłowska’s language.

    In the theoretical part of the article the author discusses the notion of cultural equivalency from the perspective of the polysystem theory, proposed by Gideon Toury, Jose Lambert and Itamar Even¬ Zohar. The theory assumes that literature is a formal dynamic functional system, and that the translation of a literary work of art rejects the requirement of adequacy for the sake of acceptability. The point of departure for the analytical part of the text is the concept of adaptation as translation, which refers to the polysystem theory and has been developed by Patrick Cattrysse and Alicja Helman. The analysis of the English version of the novel, written by Dorota Masłowska and titled Snow White and Russian Red (Polish: Wojna polsko¬ ruska pod flagą biało¬ czerwoną), shows the scale of difficulty which the translator, Benjamin Paloff, experi-enced in order to generate the target text “rooted” in the target culture. In case of subtitles the equivalency is even more difficult to achieve, mainly because of the problem of reduc-tion of the original dialogue to a couple of lines printed on the bottom of the shot. The author of the article shows what type of equivalences both – the translator of the novel into English, and the author of subtitles selected in order to achieve the goal.

    The author of the article suggests reading Dorota Masłowska’s debut novel Wojna polsko-ruska pod flagą biało-czerwoną from the perspective of the feminist literary critics. She uses Nancy K. Miller’s concept of arachnology. The author concentrates on parts of the novel that have been overlooked so far in reviews and interpretations. She examines a character in the book, a young girl, who is the author’s alter ego. The auctorial subject is revealed on different levels in the text: as a character in the novel, the author of the text that is being read and in a monologue of the narrator, Silny, whose narration is influenced by elements beyond his own consciousness and language. The experience of growing mature and writing is developed in the plot, through the consciousness of the main character and only revealed gradually. It is at the end of the novel that the author finally gives up the mask of the character and speaks for herself.

    The paper presents the phenomenon of extended collocations in the novel Wojna polsko-ruska pod flagą biało-czerwoną by Dorota Masłowska. Innovative collocations are analysed with reference to an adverb ‘doszczętnie’ [Eng. thoroughly]. New unconventional collocations are among the factors thanks to which the language of the novel is believed to have undergone deconstruction. Unfortunately, in the Russian version of the novel the translator did not reflect the discussed phenomenon, which deprived Russian readers of part of the aesthetic linguistic experience available to Polish readers.

    Opis:
    Taronyms in linguistic humour in Dorota Masłowska’s Snow white and Russian red and their translation into RussianErroneous mixing of linguistic units is one of the most common departures from the norm in novels. This linguistic device has two functions: 1) it presents the characters in the novel, 2) it constitutes a great source of puns and linguistic humour. Such misused words are known as taronyms. This paper presents their use in Dorota Masłowska’s Snow white and Russian red (Wojna polsko-ruska pod flagą biało-czerwoną) with reference to adverbs. The taronyms were identified among paronyms, synonyms, antonyms and adverbs from the same thematic group. Next, it was analyzed if and how this taronymy was reflected in the Russian translation of the presented novel. Taronimy w komizmie językowym w Wojnie polsko-ruskiej pod flagą biało-czerwoną Doroty Masłowskiej i ich przekład na język rosyjskiJednym z powszechnie stosowanych odstępstw od normy w powieści jest mylne użycie wyrazów. Ten zabieg pełni dwie funkcje: 1) jest charakterystyką bohaterów, 2) jest świetnym źródłem gier słownych i środkiem tworzenia komizmu językowego. Wyrazy mylone to taronimy. W niniejszym artykule przedstawione zostało użycie taronimów w Wojnie polsko-ruskiej w obrębie przysłówków. Wyodrębniono stosunki taronimiczne wśród paronimów, synonimów, antonimów i przysłówków z tej samej grupy tematycznej. Następnie przeanalizowano, czy i jak zjawisko taronimii jest odzwierciedlone w tłumaczeniu powieści na język rosyjski.

    Adaptation of the Dorota Masłowska’s Wojna polsko-ruska pod flagą biało-czerwoną – an example of the adaptation strategy in the present-day Polish film – is an attempt to grasp the specific issues that arise in the transposition of the Masłowska’s prose into the language of film. The Xawery Żuławski’s film is significantly faithful to the text, yet it is autonomous and comprehensible. It reflects the very special climate of the text which is the most difficult element in the adaptation process. The director applied specific means – a comic strip structure, a video-clip montage and suitable music. Moreover, his personality had its impact on the final effect as thanks to his life experience he understood the atmosphere of the reality created by Masłowska. He used – which is most difficult to describe – the intuition. The author proves that the film is the case of the “creative treason” described by Alicja Helman. The director, while taking some elements of the prose, plays a game with the viewer adding completely new elements that do not exist in the text. Thus, he creates a new and successful value.

    The article contains a comparison of the works by the representatives of the youngest genera- tion of writers: Dorota Masłowska and Irina Dienieżkina. The author makes a short review of the opinions on the characteristics and attitudes regarded widely as stereotypical and then tries to determine to what extent, and if at all, they are translated into the behaviour and views of Masłowskas and Dienieżkinas characters? What brings closer, and what makes these two youth subcultures different? Seeking answers to such a question, the author reflects three areas of human activity: love, male-female relationships and a language (the youth culture slang). The analysis determines the assimilation of these two youth communities, first of all due to the common fascination with mass culture, pop culture. The said assimilation is accompanied by the simultane- ous disappearance of the characteristics widely recognised as stereotypical.

    Príspevok sa zameriava na krátku a všeobecnú charakteristiku prekladu poľského románu od Doroty Masłovskej "Wojna polsko‑ruska" pod flagą biało‑czerwoną do slovenčiny (Sneh a krv). Preklad, urobený Tomášom Horváthom, sa snaží ukázať svet poľskej panelákovej mestskej kultúry prostredníctvom jazyka a na pozadí charakteristiky stereotypu v subkultúre. Autorka priblížuje definície subkultúry a stereotypu v odbornej literatúre, najmä sociologickej, ale aj z lingvistického hľadiska. Charakterizuje jazyk v slovenskom preklade z ohľadu na jeho slangovú realizáciu prostredníctvom univerbizovaných jednotiek, vulgarizmov, pejoratívov, dysfemizmov a frazeologických jednotiek. Jedná sa o vyriešenie problematiky vernosti slovenského prekladu voči poľskému originálovi.
    This paper focuses on a short general description of the Polish translation of the novel by Dorota Masłowska "Wojna polsko‑ruska" pod flagą biało‑czerwoną into Slovak (Sneh a krv). The translation, prepared by Tomáš Horváth, tries to show the world of the Polish city subculture of blockers based on the background of the stereotypes in this particular subculture. The author presents the definition of a subculture and stereotype in sociological literature, but also from a linguistic point of view. It also characterizes the language in the Slovak translation regardless of its slang implementation through univerbized units, vulgarisms, pejoratives, dysphemisms and phraseological units. This is to resolve the issue of the loyalty of the Slovak translation with the Polish original.

    В статье рассматриваются вопросы лексикографирования субстандарта, в особенности жаргона. Мы представили основные проблемы, с которыми сталкивается составитель словаря при поиске эквивалента жаргонной единице. В первой части представлены основные способы перевода фразеологических неологизмов на другой язык. Во второй части статьи представлены сведения из истории жаргонной лексикографии. Третья часть содержит небольшую часть собранного материала для переводного словаря.
    Artykuł dotyczy zagadnień ponadstandardowej leksykografii, a w szczególności żargonu. Przedstawiliśmy główne problemy, jakie napotyka autor słownika przy znalezieniu odpowiednika jednostki żargonowej. W pierwszej części zaprezentowano podstawowe metody przekładu neologizmów frazeologicznych na inny język. Druga część artykułu poświęcona jest historii leksykografii żargonu. Trzecia natomiast zawiera niewielką część materiału zebranego do słownika tłumaczeniowego.
    This article is devoted to the issue of substandard lexicography, and jargon in particular. We present the main problems that the compiler of the dictionary encounters when seeking an equivalent in jargon. The first part presents the main methods of transferring phraseological neologisms into another language. The second part of the article contains information about the history of jargon lexicography. The third section contains a small selection of the collected material for the translation dictionary.
