Opis:
The primary purpose of the paper is to identify port areas most exposed to extreme hydrodynamic conditions (waves, sea currents, seabed level change). The results of modelling using SWAN wave model, MIKE 3D model, and reanalysis and measurement data were used in paper. Swell may exceed 0.8 m for winds exceeding 15 m s-1 from the west and south. During extreme conditions, sea currents can reach 0.4 ms-1 in the outer part of the bay adjacent to the port. Port basins do not show changes in the thickness of the seabed for the given maximum values of bottom currents. The most extensive deposition of the seabed and shore sediments (up to 0.04 m) is found on the Gdynia-Oksywie beach adjacent to the port and the approach fairway at the offshore currents. The outer area of the main breakwater is the most exposed to erosive activity (-0.012 m).

Opis:
This article is dedicated to the functioning of maternity hospitals in the final period of real socialism. The hospital or maternity ward does not fi t into the general definition of hospital, among other reasons because the women admitted are overwhelmingly healthy. Therefore clinics of this type should fundamentally differ from other health care institutions that care for sick persons requiring medical care and complicated pharmacological or surgical treatment. Depending on the letters of women who were patients in maternity wards in the 1980s the author concludes that these particular health care institutions not only functioned according to the same regulations as other hospitals but even according to similar principles as production enterprises. Simultaneously, she demonstrate that, due to the form of organization and methods of work caused by the contemporary decision-makers of maternity clinics, they were in principle close to the concept of total institutions, formulated by Erving Goffman. In her work the author poses the question whether in the daily functioning of a maternity hospital these principles were refl ected, while the vision of a communist model brought it to the functioning level of the work place in which the woman is the raw material and the child the product. Analyzing in subsequent sections of the article mandatory hospital procedures, referring to the way in which women in labor were admitted, birth or possibility of contacting the outside world (child’s father), the author proves that they sought to fulfill the demands of socialist industry where a person was merely a cog in the machine. The attitude of the personnel, both doctors and midwives, confi rms the belief that the maternity hospital was a de-humanized institution in which the woman was treated like an object serving to produce new citizens. However, not always and not everywhere. Characteristic of the functioning of hospitals was the ‘porosity’ between prescribed procedures toward women and the reigning freedom of behavior of the personnel. In this situation, the author concludes that maternity hospitals in the late 1980s and early 1990s were a specifi c kind of total institution, rather far removed from the principles guiding models in communist Poland reminiscent of an ideal factory.

Opis:
Coordinative motor skills play a very important role in football. The target of this paper was to analyze coordinative motor skills of 12-year-old boys training football in half a year training cycle. 23 12-year-old boys who train football and 23 12-year-old boys who do not train football were diagnosed. The diagnosis was repeated after 6 months. The most popular version of Starosta’s global coordination test, with jumps to the left and right, was used to determine global motor coordination variance. Eyes and both upper and lower limbs lateralization was determined. Weight, height, length of limbs and legs muscles were measured. Somatic features of the boys did not change in a statistically significant way between the two diagnoses. However, the group of non training boys had a higher rate of both thighs muscles than the group of footballers in the first diagnosis (p ≤ 0.01). Statistically important difference in global motor coordination between the two diagnoses was determined only for the group of football training boys, and only for the results of their left legs (p ≤ 0.05). No statistically important correlation between lateralization or stature of diagnosed boys and their global motor coordination results were discovered. This configuration of the research results proves first of all the influence of football training on the level of global coordination skills. It means that Starosta’s global coordination test is a good method for testing coordinative exercises effects in young footballers’ training. The research was accomplished within the framework of grant no. N N404 255740 (40 contest), financed by the National science centre in Krakow.
