Opis:
Due to a lack of adequate information on ginger’s nutritional and medical value to an individual’s health, most rural households do not often purchase ginger. Therefore, this study aims to determine the household’s awareness and willingness to pay for ginger. A simple random sampling procedure was used to select 53 respondents, and primary data were collected through an online questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and a binary logistic regression model were used for data analyses. Descriptive statistics revealed that the average age of the respondents was 39 years. Also, most respondents (77.4%) indicated they were aware of the health benefits of ginger, and approximately 45.3% indicated that they purchase ginger on a monthly basis. Lastly, most respondents (73.6%) were willing to pay for ginger. Regression estimates showed that gender, cost of ginger and frequency of ginger purchasing influenced rural households’ willingness to pay for ginger. Since gender was found to be a significant variable, the study, therefore, recommends that women should be encouraged to purchase functional foods when buying groceries for their households. This may enhance healthy habits and ultimately reduce households’ medical expenditure because functional foods can have preventive and corrective impacts for some illnesses.

Opis:
Environmental concern has been an important issue for a few decades and the extent of consumer demand for eco-friendly consumption has increased. The article presents research results concerning the willingness to pay (WTP) for selected green products, defined by the auction method. Moreover, the paper presents the interrelations between the perceived benefits, individual value system and the WTP. Purpose – The aim of research is evaluation of willingness to pay (WTP) for green products, assessment of the interrelations between willingness and the individual values, perceived benefits. Design/methodology – The experiment in a form of the auction was carried out in order to assess the current WTP. Three non-eco-friendly products and their ecological equivalents were chosen. The auction was carried out among 20 persons. For evaluation of perceived benefits and individual system of values a questionnaire form was used. Findings – Not eco-friendly products were evaluated slightly higher than their real (market) value. Green products were evaluated below their market value. Considering a system of values, the self-enhancement values are mostly interrelated with the perceived environmental benefits and product functionality. In the group of people with dominating self-transcendence values a connection exists between the purchase of green products and perceived individual benefits. Research implications – Results can constitute a starting point for the research on the influence of a value system on purchase decisions of green products. Practical implications – Results can be used for establishing process of green products, and making plans for their marketing campaigns. Social implications – Results increase the knowledge about the perception and the reception of green products by clients with different systems of values. Originality/value – The article complements former research through combining the factors such as perceived benefits from using green products, user’s individual value system, and environmental effects of product production with the WTP. Paper type – research

Opis:
Theoretical background: The basis for developing a company's pricing strategy is information on consumers' willingness to pay (WTP). In order to properly estimate the demand for the products offered, it is necessary to understand the reactions of consumers to different price levels of goods. Research on WTP has been developing dynamically in the international arena for over a decade. The concept of WTP as presented in the article, a concept which may support decisions concerning pricing policy and influence the earnings of entrepreneurs, is rarely discussed in Polish publications.Purpose of the article: Based on the analysis of the literature, the article attempts to answer the question of whether, if buyers are willing to pay a higher price for certain characteristics of food products, WTP is an important predictor of consumers' purchase decisions.Research methods: The article contains studies of Polish and world literature in the field of the development and application of WTP in the context of food consumer products.Main findings: Consumers will most likely accept a higher price if they perceive that the value of a particular characteristic of the product distinguishes it from conventional goods. This means that it is not the price but the WTP that determines the decision to buy a food product. The relationship between value and price, and thus WTP, is crucial in the process of forecasting consumer choices.

Opis:
The European Football Championship (Euro 2012) organized in Poland became the pretext for a number of infrastructural changes. A high level of expenditure makes the Polish event the most expensive among events of this magnitude. The fact that these changes were 100% financed by public funds raises the question of whether these funds were used in a substantiated way. Therefore, the aim of this study is to estimate the willingness-to-pay (WTP) among the community of the Pomeranian region, in connection with the construction of the stadium in Gdansk. A survey conducted among 299 respondents was the source of information. The results of the study show that the average value of WTP for the whole sample was 6.71 EUR2012, while the aggregate value for the whole region was 15.4 million EUR2012. The regression analysis showed that the level of WTP is determined in particular by income levels. The results thus confirm the existence of intangible benefits associated with the constructed facilities. However, it should be noted that the importance of these benefits is insignificant and does not compensate for the massive expenditure from public sources.

The healthcare system in many countries is characterised by the co-existence of public and private medical services. Patients’ decisions regarding the purchase of private health services are made taking into account the trade-off between the price of a treatment and its quality and the waiting time. The aim of this study is to find out which factors impact the willingness to pay for health insurance or the willingness to pay for medical treatment. The study demonstrates that besides socio-demographic characteristics, some negative experiences (e.g. unavailable treatments, long waiting times, long journeys involved) and the experience of already having paid for treatments impact the willingness to pay. The results suggest that negative experiences are likely to cause a change in patients’ habits.

Opis:
Włączenie mechanizmu naśladownictwa do modelu nadaje mu zatem automatycznie charakter dynamiczny.

Willingness to pay
Opis:
The energy exercised at combating Vitamin A deficiency is a crucial feat to public health challenge among vulnerable niche of people in developing nations. Effort to ameliorate the prevalence of vitamin A deficiency, bio-fortified cassava processed to garri which encompasses more pro-vitamin ‘A’ carotenoids than the white cassava has been presented to such areas. This study therefore examined the awareness, perceptions and willingness to pay for Pro-vitamin ‘A’ garri in Oyo state, Nigeria. Multistage sampling procedure was used to collect data from 150 sampled respondents and analysed using descriptive statistics and double-hurdle model. Results revealed that about 47.5% of the respondents are aware of the availability of pro-vitamin ‘A’ garri but have low level of awareness. However, 67.3% of the consumers are aware of pro-vitamin A’’ garri from agricultural extension agents, radio and friends. The maximum, minimum and average amount the consumers were willing to pay for pro-vitamin ‘A’ garri per kilogram was ₦500 ($1.39), ₦160 ($0.44) and ₦220.08 ($0.61) respectively. The double hurdle model showed that income, other income sources and awareness (agricultural extension agents and friends) exerted significant and positive influence on consumers’ willingness to pay for pro-vitamin ‘A’ garri. Similarly, education and radio awareness significantly and positively influenced the amount willing to pay for one kilogram of pro-vitamin ‘A’ garri while household size exerted a significant and negative influence. The study therefore advocate for nutrition education as an important tool in communicating the nutritional and health benefits of bio-fortified crops and also an important factor that affects acceptability of bio-fortified crops.
