Opis:
The plant material taken for the study was collected from maize fields in Denmark. In total, maize cobs were collected from 58 fields of 15 farms (9 organic and 6 traditional ones). The plant material (97 samples) was divided according to the following criteria: maize cultivars, effective temperature sum (ETS) during growing period, type of farm (traditional and organic farms). The dry matter content of maize cob samples was determined as well as starch, neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF), phosphorus and magnesium content. The dry matter content was negatively correlated with NDF and ADF, but positively correlated with starch. A highly negative correlation of starch content with NDF and ADF was found.
Badania przeprowadzono w oparciu o kolby kukurydzy pobrane z pól rolników duńskich w roku 2001. Łącznie pobrano 97 prób, z 58 pól z 15 gospodarstw (9 ekologicznych i 6 tradycyjnych). Uzyskane wyniki przeanalizowano w zależności zróżnicowania odmianowego, sumy temperatur efektywnych oraz typu gospodarstwa. Zawartość suchej masy w kolbach w głównej mierze decydowała o zawartości skrobi, NDF, ADF, a także zawartości fosforu i magnezu. Zawartość suchej masy była ujemnie skorelowana z zawartością NDF i ADF, natomiast dodatnio z zawartością skrobi. Wysoka zawartość NDF i ADF w kolbach kukurydzy była ujemnie skorelowana z udziałem skrobi.

Opis:
Main genes determining white coat colour in Arctic foxes are: recessive gene d and incompletely dominant, autosomal gene S with lethal effect in homozygous condition. The white coat colour of Arctic foxes bred on Polish farms had been determined solely by the recessive gene until the 1970s, when the Shadow variety was imported from Norway. The genetic code of the two varieties was different, but this fact was not taken into account. The results obtained in the present study do not confirm the theories on the heredity of white coat colour of Arctic foxes. The authors of these theories assumed that the coat colour depends on the presence of a recessive gene, the only factor responsible for the white furcoat. Apart from Polar and Shadow white foxes, there is a wide variety of darker white animals, and this fact suggests that there is a number of cumulative genes responsible for the intensity of coat pigmentation.

The purpose of this papers is analysis for military actions conducted by US Arms Force during Desert Storm operation in Iraq. This concern gives insight into new US attempt for military operations outside national borders following conclusions from unsuccessful military campaign in Vietnam. After 1989, US made more brave political decisions for participation in solving worldwide concerns. Origin for such state of affairs was gradual “Soviet Imperium breakdown”, that was general challenge for American foreign policy and safety. The United States began introducing New World Order vision in last decade of the twentieth century, that was created by G.H. Bush. American army obtained the role of executor in the performance of settled assumptions. The first military test was Saddam Hussein and Iraq.

Opis:
The elastomeric anti-trauma pad (EA-TP) based on shear thickening fluid (STF) has been developed. Dynamic oscillatory shear experiment was conducted at constant strain amplitude of 5%. STF composed of 25% of volume fraction of 7 nm Fumed Silica, dispersed in polypropylene glycol with molar mass 400 gmol−1  shows elastic properties in entire investigated range of the frequency. Ballistic tests of EA-TP with 7.62 mm × 39 mm PS bullets were performed according to the PN-V-87000:2011 standard. The studies revealed about 60% reduction of the average backface signature depth (BSD) for the EA-TP, when compared to the nowadays commonly used soft insert. The ATR-FTIR analysis confirmed slight impact of the elevated temperature and air (oxygen) on the chemical degradation of the EA-TP surface. The UV-VIS spectroscopy has allowed to notice colour deviation of the aged samples towards green and yellow, as well as lack of dye resistance to accelerated aging process. Thermographic analysis has shown no visible changes of the EA-TP surface and sub-surface during accelerated aging process. The aforementioned small changes on the surface of EA-TP did not affect the ballistic properties of composite armour. EA-TP insert maintains ballistic properties after accelerated aging process which was simulating the period of 6 years according to ASTM F1980 – 07:2002 standard.

Opis:
To be effective, probiotic bacteria must exhibit a number of functional characteristics, including the resistance to gastric acidity and the ability to adhere to the intestinal epithelium. In this study, we examined in vitro the viability of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) combination after exposure to low pH, and the adhesion of LAB to Caco-2 cells during coincubation of 9 bacterial strains. To test bacterial viability, 6 commercially available products were incubated in 0.1 N HCl at pH 1.2 for 60 min. The greatest growth inhibition was noted for the non-capsulated product containing the Lactobacillus rhamnosus strain (log reduction of CFU = 6.4), and the best survival observed for the product containing 9 bacterial strains, equipped with a modern capsule made according to the Multi-Resistant Encapsulation technology (log reduction of CFU = 0.1). In the adhesion experiment, the combination of 9 bacterial strains was added to 17-day-old Caco-2 cell culture for 90 min. The greatest efficiency of adhesion was observed for the inoculum containing 5.5 × 108 CFU/mL/9.6 cm2 of Caco-2 and the dose of probiotic bacteria of 190 cells per one Caco-2 cell. As a result, approximately 157 bacterial cells adhered to one Caco-2 cell. The results indicate that the combination of 9 bacterial strains in the examined product is characterized as highly adhesive.

Opis:
The phenomenon of male sterility has often been observed in investigations on the role of histone H1 in regulation of morphogenetic and cytological processes in transgenic tobacco plants. These changes were accumulated by disturbances in flower development, consisting in lengthening of the pistil style in relation to stamen heads. This prevented pollination and production of seeds. As similar abnormalities occurred also in the present investigations (depending on combination, the sterility% was 84.4 to 19.9, at only 8.1 in the control), the main problem of our investigations was an attempt to explain their reasons. It is commonly known that one of the conditions for formation of fertile pollen is the properly functioning tapetum. Here, we carried out observations of ultrastructure of anther tapetum control cells in respect of abnormalities which occurred during microsporogenesis of transgenic plants with inactivated expression of two major (A, B) and two minor (C, D) histone H1 variants. The investigations were carried out on the following groups of plants: (1) control group with a full set of histone variants (K), (2) with inactivated A and B variants (-AB); (3) with inactivated A, B, C and D variants (-ABCD), (4) with inactivated C and D variants (-CD). It was found that tapetal development was normal in all the investigated groups of plants, and the sequence of changes was similar as in the control. However, certain ultrastructural differences appeared when tapetum functioned as secretory tissue, and in the degeneration phase. In tapetal cell cytoplasm, with participation of rER, lipid bodies were formed, which, having penetrated to the cell surface and to locules, took part in formation of pollen grain sporoderm. Both in the control and in the remaining combination, excluding -ABCD, these bodies looked similar: they were grey, homogenous and surrounded by black jagged deposits. In -ABCD plants, these bodies were more translucent, slightly rarefied, and not surrounded by the deposits. Moreover, in -CD plants, large lipid deposits were frequently observed between remainders of degraded tapetal cells. They did not occur in the control and the remaining combinations.
