    The transition of Polish economy has changed the process of company management and information needs of its management. The change in information needs results in different perception of the company interior and its outside environment. The environment begins to play more and more important role in company development. The intention of the author is to present the approach to management of contemporary company and its means - financial analysis. Financial analysis has to be more oriented on the needs of strategic management because traditional methods and techniques are no longer sufficient. Financial analysis has to include methods of environmental analysis, portfolio techniques, methods of cash flow analysis, etc.

    Although the system of functioning of trade enterprises has been reformed, there has not been constructed as yet an appropriate system of indices for evaluation of performance effectiveness. Assuming the goal of survival It would be sufficient for the enterprise not to be deficit. It must, however, develop and, thus, it must be obtaining financial surpluses .Profit , however, is not a measure which may be used for evaluating processes connected with the purchasing of goods and services. Whether or not these processes will bring profit depends on the selling process. It should be noted here that Increase of sales need not necessarily take place through Increasing the volume of sold goods. There may be involved here changes in asortment, prices or margins. Profit Is affected also by costs. The hitherto applied costs account in trade enterprises has been characterized with its limited applicabilitу. It does not take into account numerous factors such as e.g. goal of Incurring costs or places where they arise. Consequently, enterprises ark not forced to use their assets in a rational way. As a result of It, the sum of profits does not inform precisely about quality of work. A more objective criterion is, however, missing. That Is why no country has abandoned this category. Depending upon the political system and the management system there are applied only additionally different detailed indices restricting or reinforcing the role of profit. Generally, a greater usefulness for measuring economic effectiveness is attributed to profitability indices, which do not exclude the category of profit.

    The author has tried to determine usefulness of the profit measure in analysis of the enterprise’s economic performance, advantages accruing from its maximization along with some weaker points of the net profit accounting system in conditions of the economic reform being implemented at the present time. There are described measures necessary in the system of tax charges and funds to strengthen its motivational functions and improve financial abilities of enterprises. It was discovered that although there did not exist any ideal measure for estimation of the enterprise’s economic performance, the profit measure had fewer drawbacks in present conditions. An analysis of effectiveness of economic performance carried out with its application in a chosen enterprise revealed a certain degree of the enterprise’s economic stabilization, improvement of its financial situation as well as many other technical-economic indices.

    Aim: The aim of the article is to analyse the selected aspects of the social and scientific activities of Prof. Marian Walczak (1923–2020). Particular attention is paid to the activity of Prof. Marian Walczak for the Polish Educational JOANNA 118 MADALIŃSKA-MICHALAK Research Association, PERA, of which he was the Secretary General in the years 1981–2020. Methods: A historical analysis of source materials. Results: Bringing closer the history and development of the Polish Educational Research Association, PERA, the chosen examples of tasks carried out by Professor Walczak in cooperation with the authorities of the Society, which are part of the broad spectrum of scientific, organizational and programmatic activities of PERA have been presented. The article shows that Prof. Marian Walczak’s social and scientific activities have resulted in very important achievements. Conclusions: Prof. Marian Walczak has gone down in the memory of posterity with his activities for the history of the Polish Teachers’ Union, the history of education in Poland in the twentieth century and the history of the Polish Educational Research Association. The presented analyses show that the scientific output of Prof. Marian Walczak and his involvement in the social scientific movement are very significant for the development of the Polish pedagogical thought, educational practice and the social scientific movement.

    Aim: The aim of the article is to mark the first death anniversary of Prof. Walczak through presenting recollections and reflections which show his activity in the academic field and in the field of education. Methods: A historical analysis of source materials. Results: The author presented interesting events from Prof. Marian Walczak’s life and highlighted that the professor was a broad-minded person, actively participating in different fields: in the resistance movement during WWII, as a teacher, a member of Polish Teachers’ Union and its Chairman, a scholar, a social activist and an esteemed participant of public life. The author also presented a coverage from the professor’s funeral. Conclusions: The aim was achieved. The author proved that Prof. Marian Walczak was hard-working, diligent, and persistent. Moreover, he had spectacular academic achievements and also good interpersonal skills. He was able to cooperate with different people and was known for his realistic view of life. He acted prudently and patiently.

    Opis:
    Marian Pankowski’s (1919–2011) literary output is rich in all literary genres. Nevertheless, relatively little has been written on his poetry, which is the subject of this study. Shaped by his personal experience, both as a human being and as a reader, Pankowski’s poems reflect the clash he is facing everyday trying to master French and become a part of the French-speaking world. In his lyrical, carefully thought out form (alliterations, metaphors, similes), which is an explicit reference to the avant-garde and to a Polish group of experimental poets “Skamander”, there is no place for talkativeness present in prose. The analysis of some pieces of Pankowski’s less known or even unknown poetry presented in this study proposes an alternative way of reading his literary texts. The authoress points out some poetic images build upon sensuous, yet controlled, perception of the world, based mainly on the sense of hearing and sight. The sense of touch, however, is completely suppressed, as if suggested by intensifying the sense of sight. For the poet, his own corporality is a taboo. Therefore, he seems to be transposing it into the represented word. Pankowski’s poetry, unjustly associated only with his early works, is worth getting acquainted with. It is interesting, instructing and intriguing with its plasticity and language.

    Popular in the urban environment is the horse chestnut, Aesculus hippocastanum which is suffering mainly due to the feeding of the horse chestnut leaf miner (Cameraria ohridella). The harmfulness of this pest is well recognized. Not much attention was put in discovering the interaction of this insect with the fungal pathogen Guignardia aesuli, the agent of leaf blotch. Host plant mediation in this particular insect-plant pathogen interaction is crucial for understanding the complexity of the horse chestnut’s current and future situation. Recognising the response of the host plant for separated and simultaneous colonisation by insect and fungus was the aim of this study. Leaf damage dynamics and phenolic compounds content (total soluble phenolic compounds – TPh, and condensed tannins – CT), and stem volume increment (SVI) of the horse chestnut saplings was considered and their relationship identified. The main hypothesis was that insect feeding and fungal infection when separated elicit a similar pattern in defence response of the host but this defence response is different when they both coexist on the same plant. Basing on crown projection area photographs sequence, foliage damage dynamics was assessed (Richard’s growth model) and protocol developed. Measurements of stem volume were performed sequentially to indicate potential growth response. Through this study, it was identified that the content of phenolic compounds in leaves was higher when both pests colonized saplings in comparison with those where saplings were infested by one biotic factor. It is also documented that foliage damage dynamics was higher when only the fungal pathogen attacked plants than when it was infected by both pests. A trade-off was identified between growth and secondary metabolism. Leaf damage affected stem volume increment only in the late summer, when a high level of defoliation was observed. Simultaneous infestation by fungal and insect agents made unfavourable conditions rather for the former. How this interaction affects the latter is not covered by our results and still remains undiscovered.

    Przedmiotem badań w niniejszym artykule są nazwy świąt obchodzonych ku czci Matki Bożej, zawarte w katolickim almanachu „Kalendarz św. św. Cyryla i Metodego”, który ukazywał się w Bułgarii w latach 1917-1952. Kalendarz przeznaczony był zarówno dla katolików obrządku zachodniego, jak i wschodniego (unitów). Autorzy starają się dociec w jakim stopniu na przyjęte nazewnictwo wpłynęła tradycja łacińska, a w jakim odwzorowują one model środowiska prawosławnego, w którego otoczeniu katolicy stanowili zdecydowaną mniejszość. Porównując nazwy świąt maryjnych z badanymi wcześniej świętami chrystologicznymi dowodzą, że heortonimia rytu zachodniego wykazuje dużą zależność od nazewnictwa utrwalonego już w bułgarskiej tradycji prawosławnej, zaś elementem wyróżniającym frazy nazywające poszczególne święta jest sposób w jaki określa się Marię.
    The subject of this article are the names of holidays celebrated in honor of Holy Mary, included in the Catholic almanac "Calendar of St. St. Cyril and Methodius ", which appeared in Bulgaria in the period 1917-1952. Calendar was intended for both Western and Eastern (Uniate) Catholics. The authors try to find out to what extent the adopted naming influenced the Latin tradition, and to what extent they reflect the environment of the Orthodox model, in which Catholics were a small minority. Comparing the proper names of the Marian holidays with previous Christological holidays prove that the heortonyms of the Western rite shows a great dependence on the nomenclature already established in the Bulgarian Orthodox tradition, and the distinguishing element of the phrases calling the individual holidays is the way Holy Mary is described.
