Several types of pathological bony overgrowth are known from various dinosaur taxa but, except for stress fractures, are rarely reported from appendicular elements. Herein we describe pathological manual and pedal phalanges of a camarasaurid sauropod (SMA 0002), which show features rarely recognised in non-avian dinosaurs. They include lateral osteophytes and smoothing of phalangeal articular surfaces, a deep pit, proximal enthesophytes in pedal unguals, distal overgrowth associated with a fracture, and a knob-like overgrowth lateral to the distal condyles of a pedal phalanx. Their causes were assessed by means of visual examination, CT scans, and bone histology, where possible. The lateral osteophytes are interpreted as symptoms of osteoarthritis. The ossified tendon insertions in the unguals are most probably the result of prolonged, heavy use of the pedal claws, possibly for scratch-digging. The distal overgrowth is interpreted to have developed due to changed stress regimes, and to be the cause for the fracture. The deep pit represents most likely a case of osteochondrosis, whereas the knob-like overgrowth likely represents a post-traumatic phenomenon not previously reported in dinosaurs. The study confirms that a rigorous assessment of pathologies can yield information about behaviour in long-extinct animals.

Dzieje walk o niepodległość Polski są silnie zakorzenione w przestrzeni pamięci zbiorowej. Dotyczą one nie tylko zdarzeń politycznych, ale też jednostkowych, dramatycznych historii. Jedna z nich, osadzona w realiach lubelskich, stanowi treść powyższego artykułu. Jej bohaterami są lekarz Wacław Jasiński oraz jego syn Zbyszek, mały harcerz. Doktor Jasiński był ordynatorem Szpitala Dziecięcego w Lublinie, sympatykiem skautingu oraz działaczem niepodległościowym. Anegdotą obrosła rozmowa rezolutnego Zbyszka z odwiedzającym miasto nad Bystrzycą Józefem Piłsudskim, komendantem Legionów Polskich. Wkrótce, w cieniu wielkich wydarzeń historycznych, rozegrała się rodzinna tragedia. Podczas wojny polsko-bolszewickiej chłopiec pełnił służbę kurierską. Ranny w nogę, zmarł w skutek zakażenia krwi latem 1920 roku, mając zaledwie 11 lat. Pochowano go na cmentarzu wojskowym. Nieczytelne z czasem epitafium na grobie Lubelskiego Orlątka stało się symbolem zacierającej się pamięci o małoletnim bohaterze i jego ojcu, jednym z prekursorów polskiej pediatrii. Artykuł jest próbą przypomnienia obu postaci.
The stories of Poland's struggles for independence are strongly rooted in the space of collective memory. They concern not only political events but also individual, dramatic stories. One of them, set in the realities of Lublin, forms the content of this article. Its protagonists are doctor Wacław Jasiński and his son Zbyszek, a little scout. Doctor Jasiński was the head of the Children's Hospital in Lublin, a scouting sympathiser, and an independence activist. There is an anecdote of a conversation between the bright Zbyszek and Józef Piłsudski, commander of the Polish Legions, who was visiting the town on the Bystrzyca River. Soon, in the shadow of great historical events, a family tragedy unfolded. During the Polish-Bolshevik War, the boy was on courier duty. Wounded in the leg, he died of a blood infection in the summer of 1920, aged just 11. He was buried in the military cemetery. The epitaph on the Lublin Eaglet's grave, illegible with time, has become a symbol of the fading memory of the young hero and his father, one of the pioneers of Polish paediatrics. This article is an attempt to recall both figures.
История борьбы за независимость Польши глубоко укоренена в массовой народной памяти. Это касается не только политических событий, но и отдельных драматических историй. Одной из них, разворачивавшейся в люблинских реалиях, и посвящена данная статья. Её героями являются врач Вацлав Ясинский и его сын Збышек – маленький мальчик-скаут. Доктор Ясинский был ординатором детской больницы в Люблине, поклонником скаутинга и борцом за независимость. Анекдотами оброс разговор ловкого Збышка с комендантом польских легионов Юзефом Пилсудским, посещавшим город на Быстрице. Вскоре в тени великих исторических событий разыгралась семейная трагедия. Во время польско-большевистской войны юноша служил курьером. Раненный в ногу он умер от заражения крови летом 1920 года в возрасте 11 лет. Похоронен на военном кладбище. Эпитафия на могиле Люблинского орлёнка, неразборчивая со временем, стала символом угасающей памяти о малолетнем герое и его отце – одном из предтеч польской педиатрии. Статья – попытка вспомнить обоих героев.

Obok wielu korzyści, edukacja w podstawowej szkole muzycznej wiąże się z czynnikami ryzyka, ponieważ wśród dziecięcych muzyków występują objawy lękowe, stres i trema. Powodem tego jest fakt, że uczniowie doświadczają częstej ekspozycji społecznej w formie indywidualnych muzycznych występów publicznych – egzaminów, konkursów, koncertów, podczas których zostają oni poddani mniej lub bardziej formalnej ocenie oraz rywalizacji. Pamiętając, że uczniowie ci stanowią grupę wysoko wrażliwą na piękno plastyki, literatury, muzyki, przyjąć należy, iż potrzebują oni wsparcia psychologiczno-pedagogicznego dopasowanego do ich szczególnych potrzeb. W tym celu psycholog i pedagog szkolny, a także inne dorosłe osoby, znaczące w życiu ucznia, mogą zastosować niestandardowe metody terapeutyczne, czyli zwrócić się do uczniów językiem sztuki, bo taki dzieciom kształconym muzycznie jest przecież najbliższy. Autorka proponuje zatem, aby był to język poezji Joanny Kulmowej. Utwory wspomnianej poetki posiadają funkcje terapeutyczne, korzystne dla psychiki młodego muzyka, wpisujące się niejako w cele bajkoterapii, oraz wprowadzają one uczniów w świat wartości duchowych i estetycznych. Artykuł jest pierwszą częścią cyklu poświęconego wykorzystaniu twórczości Joanny Kulmowej w szkolnictwie muzycznym. Jego celem jest przedstawienie oraz analiza tomu Bajki skrzydlate pod kątem funkcji, jaką może on pełnić w psychologiczno-pedagogicznym wsparciu uczniów podstawowej szkoły muzycznej.
Alongside many benefits, education in a primary music school comes with potential risks, as young musicians often exhibit symptoms of anxiety, stress, and a fear of stage performance. The reason is that students experience frequent social exposure in the form of individual musical public performances – exams, competitions, concerts – during which they are subject to formal evaluation. Bearing in mind that such students constitute a group highly sensitive to the beauty of visual arts, literature, and music, it should be assumed that they require psychological and pedagogical support tailored to their specific needs. For this purpose, the school psychologist, school counselor, as well as other adults significant in a student’s life, can apply non-standard therapeutic methods, communicating with students through the language of art, being the closest to children educated in music. The author, therefore, proposes it to be the language of Joanna Kulmowa. The works of the mentioned poetess have therapeutic functions beneficial for the psyche of young musicians, somewhat fitting into the goals of fairy tale therapy and they introduce students to the world of spiritual and aesthetic values. The article is the first part of a series devoted to the use of Joanna Kulmowa’s creative work in music education. Its purpose is to present and analyze the volume titled “Fairy Tales” in terms of the function it can play in the psychological and pedagogical support of students in a primary music school.

Micro Air Vehicles (MAVs) are miniature airplanes constructed from state-of-the-art materials, designed to be small, light, and highly resilient. Current applications include surveillance, reconnaissance, and munitions. Many of the planes, because of their size, have unconventional designs with respect to the wings and control surfaces. Instability introduced by the small non-traditional aircraft designs must be addressed, to eliminate the need for an expert pilot for aircraft control and navigation. In this paper we present a state-of-the-art technology development focused on the technologies and components required to enable flight at small scales, including flight control, power and propulsion, navigation, multi-purpose structures, advanced communications and information systems, Micro-electro-mechanical Systems (MEMS), advanced sensors, and lightweight, efficient high-density power sources.

The two species of dicraeosaurid dinosaurs Dicraeosaurus, Dicraeosaurus hansemanni, and Dicraeosaurus sattleri, have been distinguished mainly by their differences in size and geological age, as they occur in different members of the Late Jurassic Tendaguru Formation of Tanzania. Linear and geometric morphometric measurements distinguish between the humeri and femora of both species. Linear measurements and Principal Component Analysis of Thin-plate Splines reveal strong differences in size and shape between their humeri and weak differences between their femora, also supported by a Discriminant Factor Analysis. Generally, the humerus and femur of D. hansemanni are slightly longer and more robust than those of D. sattleri. Further, the humerus is shorter in relation to the femur in D. sattleri, related to its more distally positioned deltopectoral crest, resulting in differences in its arc of movement and mechanical power. Thus, a morphological separation between the humeri and femora of D. hansemanni from the Middle Dinosaur Member and D. sattleri from the Upper Dinosaur Member of the Tendaguru Formation can be confirmed. Morphometric comparisons of the humeri and femora of Dicraeosaurus with the single known humerus and femur of Amargasaurus cazaui reveal many shape differences between the two genera, which are especially well marked in the Thin-plate Splines analysis and affect in particular the humerus. These results suggest a closer relationship between D. hansemanni and D. sattleri than between D. sattleri and A. cazaui, and a clear separation between the two genera.

When the famous African-American actor and singer Paul Robeson played the lead in Shakespeare’s Othello in London in 1930, tickets were in high demand during the production’s first week. The critical response, however, was less positive, although the reviews unanimously praised his bass-baritone delivery. When Robeson again played Othello on Broadway thirteen years later, critics praised not only his voice but also his acting, the drama running for 296 performances. My argument concerning Robeson uses elements first noted by Henri Lefebvre in his seminal work, The Production of Space, while I also draw on Paul Connerton’s work on commemorative practices. Using spatial and memorial theories as a backdrop for examining his two portrayals, I suggest that Robeson’s nascent geopolitical awareness following the 1930 production, combined with his already celebrated musical voice, allowed him to perform the role more dramatically in 1943.

This study highlights the 75 species of dragonfly fauna associated with rice ecosystems in eastern India out of which 15 species were regular and rest were sporadic. From the general taxonomic point of view all the species were grouped under 5 families of under order Odonata. Comparing different body parts the double branching keys were prepared for easy identification of 15 common dragonfly species recorded in rice ecosystems of West Bengal. Each key begins with a couplet (a pair of alternative) and each of which leads to another couplet. Finally the reader reaches the specific identity of species. Free hand drawing of wings of the 50 dragonflies were also used for separate identification of these insect species. In addition to this, different studies were made on courtship and mating, egg laying habitats, nymphal development, longevity, flight capacity of dragonfly to make the study more interesting to the reader. The population build up of dragonfly, favors to certain altitude as well as availability of water which is reverse to the other group of insects. Three different localities were selected at 9.75 m (Chakdaha), 200 m (Cooch Behar) and 1250 m (Kalimpong) of which former two represent an unique physiographic ecological system in Eastern India characterized by extreme diversities of dragonfly inhabiting there. The studies on natural enemies of dragonfly along with their major threats indicated that about 2, 4 and 4 species were critically endangered, endangered and vulnerable in rice ecosystem of West Bengal. Dragonflies are very sensitive to changes in landscape and are reliable indicators of wetland health. Therefore the effective conservation of dragonfly depends entirely on conservation of their habitats. Different studies were made to estimate the role of dragonfly in integrated pest management of rice crop in West Bengal. An investigation was also carried out to find out the crop stage wise diversification of individual predator and found that dragonfly was more diverse during flowering to ripening stages of crop respectively. The values Simpson and Shanon diversity index showed that dragonflies are specific flowering to ripening stage of crop. Subsequently the value of Margalef index and Menhinick index also indicated that the aforesaid predators were more diverse in flowering stage of crop whereas it was least in vegetative stage of crop. From the Hill's diversity the number of abundant and most abundant species was calculated where maximum and minimum were obtained from dragonfly and staphylinid respectively. The studies on colonization and succession of major dragonfly taxa in the rice field indicated that it followed a uniform pattern in relation to growth stages as well different phases in the rice field. The studies on relative abundance of dragonfly in different ecosystems reflected that their population in fields could be conserved and enhanced through maintenance of rice weed flora on bund or allowing ratoon rice after the rice crop during fallow period. The fallow land has limited effect on incidence of insect predator in rice crop. The relative ranking chart of 50 important predators in rice ecosystem of West Bengal indicates that the insect belonging to Coleopteran (17) were top of the list whereas dragonfly was third (10). The validity of chart may increase over time and they will need to be updated periodically.

Drogowskazy, będące regulacjami otaczającej nas rzeczywistości, nie zawsze jasno wskazują zasady wzajemnego poruszania się po drodze życia, i nie zawsze odczytywane są tak samo... Prezentowany tekst to kolejna próba przeszukiwania kultury, czyli tego wszystkiego, co ludzie, jako członkowie społeczeństwa czynią, myślą i posiadają odnośnie umierania i śmierci.
The end and the beginning. Suffering while deliverance from it. The emptiness and nothingness and yet hope. Both peace and trauma. Death ... so many contradictions in its essence. It is impossible to cite all her shades. But still and constantly we must fighting – if not (for) (of) each other, it maybe (for) (o) other, shoulder to shoulder... Signposts, which is the regulations surrounding reality, not always clearly indicate the principle of mutual navigate your way of life... Presented text is another attempt to searchable of the culture, it’s mean that all what people, as members of society can do, think and they possess about death and dying.
