The construction of the North-South Gas Corridor, regional energy integration and international cooperation in the Visegrad Group (Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia) can be determinants for the creation of a common gas market for four Eastern Europe countries (V4). The starting point for this work is concerned with the technical possibilities, chances, threats and necessary steps for the development of the existing infrastructure. The import capacities of countries neighbouring the V4 territory and the internal gas transmission potential inside the indicated group of countries have been presented in this paper. Special attention was paid to the international possibilities of using underground gas storage. The V4 countries, in particular, were examined due to their location between the Russian Federation and Western European gas consumers, and due to the need to ensure the security of supply, volumes and directions of import and export for each from. The bringing online of the gas connection between Norway and Poland, along with the construction of the Croatian LNG terminal, and the establishment of a common gas market for deliveries inside V4 may significantly contribute to determining a new physical direction of the gas flow in this part of Europe.

Opis:
In the recent years, an economic crisis has appeared in most economies. It affected the labor market situation. This article refers to the changes in the labor markets of the Visegrad Group countries. The analysis concerns the relations between the economic crisis, the level and structure of unemployment (taking into account the situation of women and young people as the groups strongly exposed to unemployment), and the level and structure of expenditures within the labor market policy. The article is based on the data published by Eurostat, using the tools of descriptive statistics, and statistical indexes, in particular. The research period covers the years 2007-2012, which is dictated by the availability of comparable statistical data. An analysis of the data indicates that the economic crisis increased the economic activity of the population, which contributed to an increase in unemployment. There is no discrimination against women in the labor market, but there has been a serious increase in unemployment among young people. With the increase in unemployment, the expenditures on the total labor market policy have increased, as have those on passive labor market policies and labor market service. Expenditures on active labor market policies (ALMPs) grow relatively more slowly, which may be especially evident in the case of expenditure on training.

Opis:
Motivation: The concept of Industry 4.0 is widely recognised, since technological development is an inseparable factor of the modern organisations functioning. Due to this, the interest in the subject of the 4th industrial revolution has grown in recent years. However, far too little attention has been paid to the measurement of readiness and implementation of key attributes in Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. Aim: The major objective of this study was to investigate the adaptation to Industry 4.0 in the Visegrád Group. Consequently, in the theoretical part both a historical context and a description of the main components of Industry 4.0 was introduced, which was the basis for the evaluation of the V4 transition toward Industry 4.0 in the empirical section. Materials and methods: Both quantitative (basic statistical analysis) and qualitative (critical analysis of the subject literature) methods were used in this investigation. The research data was drawn mainly from institutional reports and Eurostat database. Results: The investigation indicated that the transition towards Industry 4.0 in V4 countries is less advanced than in other European regions and need particular attention. Despite the relatively good results achieved in the field of robotisation, especially in the foreign-owned automotive industry, in general the Group lags behind the majority of Western and Baltic countries in terms of already adapted technologies, innovations and digital skills.

Further we examine inward foreign direct investment flows in the Visegrad Group countries against the global performance in the area from 1990 to 2013. Next we discuss the investment attractiveness of New Member States of the European Union in selected international rankings, paying special attention to the positions occupied by the four analysed countries. The final part examines the correlation between selected variables characteristic of investment attractiveness and the inflow of foreign investment. The study is based on statistical methods (Spearman’s rank correlation and Pearson correlation). At the end we present our conclusions.

The concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Visegrad Group countries (V4) is not very well developed yet, but is gradually transforming and becoming an important topic in the region. The study findings indicate that also CSR reporting practices are not widespread among companies in V4 countries. Initiatives undertaken by the governments of V4 countries basically are related with sharing of information and knowledge and the development of reporting guides. The paper presents an overview of the development of the concept of CSR in Visegrad 4 countries concentrating especially on disclosing the information on CSR performance in the region. The situation of CSR reporting practices in each of the V4 countries is outlined based on the conducted literature analysis.

Opis:
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether the capital structure of stock exchange listed companies in individual countries of the Visegrad Group differs significantly, and whether these entities can be considered to be organizations implementing the principles of the golden and silver rules of accounting. Design/methodology/approach: The research hypotheses assumed were verified using appropriate statistical tools. Calculations were per-formed using the Gretl software and MS Excel. Findings: The basis for operating activity financing in the companies under examination mainly entailed equity. In practice, this means that most of the entities surveyed follow the silver, less frequently the golden (the more restrictive), rule of accounting. The results obtained for each country of the Visegrad Four differed significantly. The research conducted provides a basis for determining whether the golden and silver rules of accounting constitute factors affecting the decision-making regarding capital structure formation in companies listed in the Visegrad Group countries. The study covers companies listed in the four countries and provides a basis for further research in this area, with respect to both the sample size and the time series length. Research limitations/implications: The paper takes into account only listed companies, so its results do not explain capital structure behavior of other companies. The research is a contribution to further analyses of the capital structure, which covers all types of enterprises. Practical implications: The research conducted provides a basis for determining whether the golden and silver rules of accounting constitute factors affecting the decision-making regarding capital structure formation in companies listed in the Visegrad Group countries. The study covers companies listed in the four countries and provides a basis for further research in this area, with respect to both the sample size and the time series length. Originality/value: The most important principle of financing is that firms should try to match the characteristics of the financing as closely as possible to the characteristics of the assets being financed. Unfortunately, only a few studies on this subject can be found, especially internationally. Our research aims to fill a gap in the literature on the subject. It made possible to identify financing rules characterizing capital structure of the companies operating in different economic conditions. The study may be addressed to analysts, investors and managers of companies as well as researchers conducting research in corporate finance area.

Research background: The problem of bankruptcy prediction models has been a current issue for decades, especially in the era of strong competition in markets and a constantly growing number of crises. If a company wants to prosper and compete successfully in a market environment, it should carry out a regular financial analysis of its activities, evaluate successes and failures, and use the results to make strategic decisions about the future development of the business. Purpose of the article: The main aim of the paper is to develop a model to reveal the un-healthy development of the enterprises in V4 countries, which is done by the multiple discriminant analysis. Methods: To conduct the research, we use the Amadeus database providing necessary financial and statistical data of almost 450,000 enterprises, covering the year 2015 and 2016, operating in the countries of the Visegrad group. Realizing the multiple discriminant analysis, the most significant predictor and the best discriminants of the corporate prosperity are identified, as well as the prediction models for both individual V4 countries and complex Visegrad model. Findings & Value added: The results of the research reveal that the prediction models use the combination of same financial ratios to predict the future financial development of a company. However, the most significant predictors are current assets to current liabilities ratio, net income to total assets ratio, ratio of non-current liabilities and current liabilities to total assets, cash and cash equivalents to total assets ratio and return of equity. All developed models have more than 80 % classification ability, which indicates that models are formed in accordance with the economic and financial situation of the V4 countries. The research results are important for companies themselves, but also for their business partners, suppliers and creditors to eliminate financial and other corporate risks related to the un-healthy or unfavorable financial situation of the company.

In spite of efforts on the part of the European Union to promote renewable sources of energy, conventional resources such as oil, natural gas and coal still dominate in individual EU energy mixes. With the rising costs of resources, their uneven distribution and limited supply, each state is busy trying to ensure its energy security. Secure and stable supply of energy resources has becoming the main preoccupation, especially in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Over the recent years, the Visegrád Group states have made particularly intensive efforts to ensure their supply of natural gas. The unstable political situation in the east of Europe as well as changes in natural gas markets (shale gas revolution in the USA, increased importance of LNG) gave rise to new challenges when it comes to ensuring gas security, but also new opportunities to become independent of eastern imports. It is precisely the fact of being dependent on natural gas imported from Russia that determines the situation of Visegrád Group states. The present paper tries to analyse the situation in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary in terms of security of their natural gas supply.

Opis:
The article examines the theoretical principles of studying sustainability and security of public budget of the Visegrad Group countries and determines that indicators of the normal functioning of the economy and ensuring a decent social standard of living of the population are reaching the limits of relevant indicators, some of which are approved by international standards. At the same time, the authors identified the absence of a single system of macrofinancial indicators of sustainability and security of public budget proposing to create it, including twelve ratios reflecting levels of debt security, deficit load on the economy, debt load on the population, budgetary independence, efficiency, population well-being, productivity, economic efficiency, as well as the effectiveness of financial support for health and education, elasticity of income and expenditure from the change in GDP of the Visegrad countries. Analytical calculations of the above-mentioned macro indicators in the dynamics made it possible to draw qualitative conclusions on compliance with the sustainability and security of public budget of the Visegrad Group countries, identify possible threats to national economies and prevent the consequences in case of non-compliance with standards. Based on the results of correlation-regression analysis, the authors determined the indicators that have the greatest impact on the resultant factor-the ratio of the level of deficit load on the economy of the investigated countries. It made it possible to analyze the real situation in the economy, to determine the level of sustainability and security of public budget and to give the necessary suggestions and recommendations.

The aim of the article was to identify and quantify the impact of human potential on the level of innovation of the Visegrad Group (V4) countries. In the theoretical part of the considerations, a critical analysis of the literature on the subject and a library query were used, while in the empirical part a statistical analysis was applied, which included the characteristics of a sample of selected features, an analysis of a series of correlations examining the matching of features, and an analysis of the results obtained. The collected data was compiled using descriptive statistics - average values, dynamics of changes, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. In the course of the analysis, it was possible to identify several dependencies with a fairly strong or moderate strength of the relationship. The main conclusions include the fact that there is a fairly strong positive correlation between human resources in science and technology and expenditure on research and development in the enterprise sector. The practical implication of the study may be the fact of diagnosing the main attributes of human capital which, in turn, may be interpreted as outlining a certain field for the application of a targeted policy aimed at increasing the innovativeness of the Visegrad Group.

Managers of enterprises must constantly face the continual changes on the market and fight for survival in a world of high competition. Therefore, it is important to systematically monitor the company’s financial condition. This will help to identify problems and give specific time to take corrective action. Bankruptcy prediction models are usually constructed for local goals. The purpose of the article is to build not only regional but also general discriminant and logit models for the SMEs operating in the construction industry in Visegrád Group countries. A total of 32 unique models were built and verified along with the Altman model for emerging markets. The paper also contributes to the literature by assessing the stability of the constructed models over time, which the models’ authors do not usually measure. The results showed that regional models are characterized by higher accuracy than general ones. However, general models can be adapted to the analyzed Visegrád Group with an accuracy of approximately 90%. The G1 LR model can be considered the best model, as it has relatively high accuracy and over-time stability.

The Visegrad Group countries are often cited as an example of a successful transition from a centrally planned economy to a market-based one. Education is crucial in enhancing the quality of human capital, which directly impacts a country's economy. The paper addresses the impact of educational attainment on the gross domestic product in the Visegrad Group countries. To assess the educational attainment of economically active per-sons, the Educational Attainment Index was calculated. The period analysed is the time from 2005 to 2020. Changes in the share of economically active persons with tertiary education were examined, with the best values achieved in Poland compared to other countries. Poland outperformed the remaining Visegrad Group countries in terms of the Educational Attainment Index, but Slovakia and the Czech Republic also managed to perform above the EU average. In terms of gross domestic product per capita, the Visegrad Group countries showed values below the EU average throughout the studied period. The analysis found that Poland had the highest Pearson correlation coefficient between the education index and gross domestic product per capita among the four countries and the EU average.

The transformation process towards a low-emission, green economy implies an increase in the demand for new professions and competences. Quality changes of jobs under the influence of the idea of sustainable development are both an opportunity and a challenge for both countries and individual regions. Green jobs are created as a result of the development of eco-innovation, new environmentally friendly technologies. The development of green jobs is particularly noticeable in the renewable energy sector. The article presents the results of empirical research in the field of analyzing the number of green jobs in the renewable energy sector in the Visegrad Group. In order to identify and determine the nature and changes in the impact of individual factors on the development of green jobs, panel regression was used – a model with fixed effects. The dependent variable was the relative number of green jobs per million inhabitants in 2000-2016.

Purpose. The aim of this paper is the general assessment of changes in the international competitiveness of the Visegrad Group economies in 2016 in relation to 2005. The coun-tries of the Visegrad Group - the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland – have been analyzed for several reasons. They started the market transformation at a similar time, became members of the EU on May 1, 2004, are a geographically compact block in Central Europe and are often compared on many areas. Methodology. The study uses basic, secondary data available in WEF Global Competitiveness Reports, IMD Global Competitiveness Yearbooks and The World Bank Doing Business Reports. Data from 2016 are compared with 2005, the first full year of member-ship in the EU. Findings. Review of these rankings shows that not all countries have succeeded in strengthening their economies in the discussed period to improve their international competitiveness. The article ends with a summary of the conclusions resulting from the presented analysis.
Cel.

The article investigates the process of decentralization of public administration in the Visegrad Group countries. The authors use the share of local budget revenues of Visegrad Group countries in GDP and the share of tax (own) revenues in the revenues of local budgets of Visegrad Group countries, as main indicators. The research examines the essence of fiscal decentralization and reforms of fiscal decentralization in Visegrad Four. It has been found that the purpose of fiscal decentralization was to increase the financial independence of the municipalities, but the local governments of the Visegrad Four countries still depend on the state budget and economic development of a country. In general, process of fiscal decentralization still has the national particularities.

Research results of chosen aspects of agrotourism promotion on the Internet in Visegrad Group countries are presented in this paper. Surveys were performed in three stages. In the first stage, visibility of agrotouristic farms websites in search results was examined. In the second stage, an attempt was made to measure to what extent websites of agrotouristic farms “reach the recipients”. And in the third stage, selected aspects of their usage techniques were tested. The surveys show that farms from Visegrad Group countries, which carry out rural agrotourism and make attempts to find customers via the Internet, lose the race on the Web with entities from the IT field. Such entities provide big business portals that accumulate various accommodation offers. They are the ones with the help that makes it possible to find recreation offers in the countryside in a simple and quick way. Some recommendations resulting from the performed surveys is merging farms into organised groups, associations and clusters and promoting on the Internet. Websites that present unique content and a greater number of offers have a greater opportunity be rank high in search results. This, in turn, can result in the number of displays of a website and in use of lodgings. Therefore, decisions about a competitive advantage can be made.

Research background: Since the first bankruptcy prediction models were developed in the 60's of the 20th century, numerous different models have been constructed all over the world. These individual models of bankruptcy prediction have been developed in different time and space using different methods and variables. Therefore, there is a need to analyse them in the context of various countries, while the question about their suitability arises. Purpose of the article: The analysis of more than 100 bankruptcy prediction models developed in V4 countries confirms that enterprises in each country prefer different explanatory variables. Thus, we aim to review systematically the bankruptcy prediction models developed in the countries of Visegrad four and analyse them, with the emphasis on explanatory variables used in these models, and evaluate them using appropriate statistical methods. Methods: Cluster analysis and correspondence analysis were used to explore the mutual relationships among the selected categories, e.g. clusters of explanatory variables and countries of the Visegrad group. The use of the cluster analysis focuses on the identification of homogenous subgroups of the explanatory variables to sort the variables into clusters, so that the variables within a common cluster are as much similar as possible. The correspondence analysis is used to examine if there is any statistically significant dependence between the monitored factors ? bankruptcy prediction models of Visegrad countries and explanatory variables. Findings & Value added: Based on the statistical analysis applied, we confirmed that each country prefers different explanatory variables for developing the bankruptcy prediction model. The choice of an appropriate and specific variable in a specific country may be very helpful for enterprises, researchers and investors in the process of construction and development of bankruptcy prediction models in conditions of an individual country.

Research background: Creative accounting practices do not frequently violate the law and are not considered illegal; however, accounting managers may exploit legal ambiguities to portray the company's financial standing in accordance with management preferences. Therefore, the analysis is focused on the detection of earnings management in companies operating in the Visegrad Group, which represents one of the most commonly used techniques for revealing creative accounting. Purpose of the article: The aim of the presented study is to reveal the presence of creative accounting through the detection of earnings management in the countries of the Visegrad Group and, based on the detected results, to propose a regression model of earnings management in the Visegrad Group. Methods: To reveal the use of creative accounting in the Visegrad Group, ten selected models of earnings management were applied during the period 2016-2020 to a set of 8,134 companies. The Mann-Whitney test and multiple linear regression were used to verify the existence of earnings management. These findings served as the basis for the creation of the linear regression model of earnings management in the Visegrad Group. Findings & value-added: The presence of earnings management was best captured by the Hribar and Collins model in companies operating in the Visegrad Group in the period 2016-2020. The findings also confirmed that positive discretionary accruals acquired higher values over the entire period when compared to negative discretionary accruals, confirming that companies in the surveyed group manage their profits primarily by increasing them. Therefore, we created a regression model, that can serve as a unique basis and is capable of revealing the use of earnings management in the Visegrad Group, as until now nothing like this has been implemented in these countries. In conclusion, this study offers insights for academicians and researchers on creative accounting in the selected period. Lastly, the study contributes to the existing theory by conducting new research on the earnings management determinants of the countries studied.

Opis:
Research background: Effective monitoring of financial health is essential in the financial management of enterprises. Early studies to predict corporate bankruptcy were published at the beginning of the last century. The prediction models were developed with a significant delay even among the Visegrad group countries. Purpose of the article: The primary aim of this study is to create a model for predicting bankruptcy based on the financial information of 20,693 enterprises of all sectors that operated in the Visegrad group countries during the post-pandemic period (2020-2021) and identify significant predictors of bankruptcy. To reduce potential losses to shareholders, investors, and business partners brought on by the financial distress of enterprises, it is possible to use multiple discriminant analysis to build individual prediction models for each Visegrad group country and a complex model for the entire Visegrad group. Methods: A bankruptcy prediction model is developed using multiple discriminant analysis. Based on this model, prosperity is assessed using selected corporate financial indicators, which are assigned weights such that the difference between the average value calculated in the group of prosperous and non-prosperous enterprises is as large as possible. Findings & value added: The created models based on 6-14 financial indicators were developed using different predictor combinations and coefficients. For all Visegrad group countries, the best variable with the best discriminating power was the total indebtedness ratio, which was included in each developed model. These findings can be used also in other Central European countries where the economic development is similar to the analyzed countries. However, sufficient discriminant ability is required for the model to be used in practice, especially in the post-pandemic period, when the financial health and stability of enterprises is threatened by macroeconomic development and the performance and prediction ability of current bankruptcy prediction models may have decreased. Based on the results, the developed models have an overall discriminant ability greater than 88%, which may be relevant for academicians to conduct further empirical studies in this field.

Economic security is an important element of the functioning of national economies, including the countries of the Visegrad Group. By perceiving economic security as a balance of the developmental needs of these countries, we can identify several areas of activity of its quantifiers, which may include development, infrastructure and possibilities of balance and needs. To determine the levels of these quantifiers, we must use a carefully selected set of measurements. One of these is gross domestic product (GDP), the rating and the ratio of public debt to GDP. The purpose of this article is to attempt to indicate the level of economic security of the Visegrad Group countries. The proposed measures do not provide grounds for expressing value judgments in the context of the broadly understood level of economic security, but constitute their necessary component and the basis for further analysis and evaluation.

Insurance markets are developing under the influence of various factors, which are divided into economic, demographic, social and cultural. The share of foreign insurance companies is treated as one of the structural factors. Research on this subject does not confirm unambiguously the influence of foreign capital on the development of insurance markets. Analysis of dependencies between foreign capital and the development of the insurance market in the Visegrad Group countries are the prime objectives of the research presented in this paper. The following research hypothesis has been advanced: the share of foreign capital is a determinant of the development of insurance markets as measured by the growth in the written premium and measured by the growth in the insurance penetration rate. In search of an answer to the query and in order to verify the research hypothesis, a critical review of the literature is undertaken, contents of factors which influence the development of insurance markets are analysed, and econometric methods are applied. A panel model is constructed and results of the model estimation are analysed to verify the hypothesis. The study has corroborated the research hypothesis. This study has covered insurers active in the Visegrad Group insurance markets in 1999-2016 using annual figures. Data of these insurance markets are derived from the OECD.

The Visegrad Group (V4) was formed with the aim to support Central European countries – Poland, Czechoslovakia (since 1993 the Czech Republic and Slovakia) and Hungary in their efforts to join NATO and the European Communities. V4 had to redefine its role and tasks after 2004 having achieved the set objectives in the first years of its existence. The new format of the Visegrad Group made provisions for a close cooperation between member states within the European Union. The strategy of combining potentials of the V4 states in negotiations on the EU level is based on reasonable assumptions, as it may lead to an increased significance of the region in the decision-making process. The article discusses the genesis and evolution of the V4 up to 2004. Next there is presented Visegrad cooperation in the field of the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the EU. The text analysis specific issues projecting the safety of Europe in recent years. The analysis of the commitment of V4 in the shaping of the EU CFSP will be based on source materials, mainly on documents produced by the authorities of the Visegrad Group such as presidency programmes, statements, declarations and annual reports.

The global financial and economic crisis has fully revealed the risks of over- -indebted countries, whose cause was, inter alia, the maintenance of structural deficits for many years. Economies of the Visegrad Group (V4 Group) conducted even less disciplined fiscal policy than the EU. Nevertheless, the V4 Group has weathered the crisis better than the EU, even though its initial fiscal position was worse. However, in the long term, the fiscal consolidation process will be hindered due to unfavorable demographic trends and the burden on public finances imposed by scarce social security systems. In this respect, the V4 Group is going to experience even greater challenges than the EU. The purpose of this article is to show the arithmetic course and consequences of the sovereign debt crisis on economies of V4 Group as well as the challenges related among others to ageing process its population is going to face in medium and long term.

Opis:
Research background: Discussions on the state of the economy in times of crisis focus not only on maintaining or improving innovativeness, but also on the emergence of new dimensions of this phenomenon and changing the significance of individual determinants of innovativeness. Innovativeness is a complex, multidimensional and difficult to measure phenomenon, which implies the need to select various indicators and methods for its assessment. Synthetic measures of innovativeness are widely used in comparative analyses, in particular presenting results in international or interregional cross-sections. The degree of innovativeness should also be assessed at different levels of economic aggregation. The lower the level of aggregation, the easier it becomes to capture the specific determinants of the increase in innovativeness of a given area. Purpose of the article: The main aim of the paper is to attempt to measure the relationship between expenditures and results of innovative activities for NUTS-2 regions of the Visegrad Group countries. Three variables were adopted to describe the effects of innovative activity: PCT patent applications per billion GDP (in PPS), trademark applications per billion GDP (in PPS) and public-private co-publications per million of population. Methods: The study covered 37 NUTS-2 regions of the Visegrad Group countries in the years 2014?2021. From the point of view of the purpose of the paper and the need to search for the relationship between expenditures on innovative activity and the results of this activity, it is worth emphasizing that the use of static and dynamic econometric models proved to be a substantively correct solution leading to the formulation of clear conclusions. Findings & value added: The conducted research confirmed that business R&D expenditure on GDP has a positive effect on inventions expressed by patents and trademarks, especially in the long run. In addition, the literature review and empirical analyses indicate that the main determinants of innovativeness (both before and during the pandemic) are the expenditures of economic entities on R&D, competences expressed by the level of education or participation in tertiary education, as well as the number of ICT specialists and the percentage of people employed in science and technology. Despite the deterioration of many macroeconomic indicators in the countries of the Visegrad Group, the expenditures of the business sector on R&D in most regions did not decrease between 2019 and 2021. The added value of the paper is the presented research procedure, which can be used in analyses of innovativeness also for other groups of regions.

The article discusses the issues of cybersecurity in the Visegrad Group. There is a wide spectrum of information security terminology, but the conceptual category of cybersecurity has dominated strategic documents in recent years. The European Union Cyber Security Strategy of 7, March 2013, claims that cybersecurity commonly refers to the safeguards and actions that can be used to protect the cyber domain, both in the civilian and military fields, from those threats that are associated with or that may harm its interdependent networks and information infrastructure. The Visegrad Group countries have developed their own cybersecurity strategies based on global models in this field. However, in these strategic documents they declare readiness for broad international cooperation, including Central European, it can be seen that each of them strives to play the role of a leader in Central Europe.

The aim of the study is to determine the level of financial literacy of academic youth from rural areas in the V4 Group countries, as well as to compare the results obtained with the level of financial literacy of young people from cities. The source of data used for analysis and inference were primary information obtained from own research (PAPI method, 900 people). The research used a set of questions to assess the level of financial literacy of adults proposed by the OECD INFE. In addition to primary sources, secondary sources were also used to achieve the goal. The measures of descriptive statistics and one-way analysis of variance (F) were used. The level of financial literacy was determined at the medium level, which may indicate the low effectiveness of financial education measures implemented at different levels of education. The component of financial literacy where students from rural areas had the lowest scores was basic financial knowledge. Only 43% of people from rural areas achieved the minimum target score.

Opis:
The main aim of the paper is to present the demographic situation of countries, which are members of the Visegrad Group, and how big was the infl uence of political transformation on it, after the United States of Soviet Russia’s collapse in 1991. To analyze this, there were used data from Central Statistical Offi ce of all V4 countries. Demographic situation is very important part of policy, which is often neglected by authorities. It is necessary to undertake some actions, to stop depopulation process not only in V4 countries, but also in all Europe. Political transformation is not only factor, which determines that situation – it is the second demographic transition theory, which had impact on people’s perception on building the family. Our future and future of our “successors” – sons, daughters, granddaughters and grandsons depends on stable demographic situation – it is worth to discuss about this problems.

The paper addresses problems related to energy policies pursued by Central European countries. It identifies the amounts of energy resources in individual countries in the Visegrád Group as well as the transmission infrastructures they use for natural gas and crude oil. The author discusses projects aimed at diversifying energy supplies which are of key importance to V4 countries. The article also presents relations between those countries in both within the group and bilaterally. When outlining prospects of a V4 energy strategy, the account is taken of such vital aspects as relations with the Russian Federation and the contribution made by Visegrád countries to EU actions designed to develop a single energy market.

Opis:
The present study deals with the evaluation of the management of Veľká Fatra National Park and its comparison with three other selected national parks of the Visegrád Four: Bohemian Switzerland National Park (Czech Republic), Bieszczady National Park (Poland) and the Bükk National Park (Hungary). The information about Veľká Fatra National Park was acquired through a SWOT analysis. The weaknesses and threats found following the SWOT analysis were further evaluated by an analysis of the "force field" and a "problem analysis". The management applied in individual parks was evaluated through the expert system Integrated Protected Area Management (IPAM) with the aim to improve the present management. Another part of the examination is the evaluation of the environmental edification and of the consciousness of students of grammar schools and secondary schools, both in the region where the National Park is located and outside that region. The examination for this study was carried out between 2010-2014. A survey of the environmental consciousness and edification has been implemented in all surveyed countries and the tool of exploratory method was a questionnaire, which was distributed to 1301 respondents. The survey managed to confirm the assumption that in some areas the level of environmental consciousness of the target group is very low. This situation is justified by the fact that schools do not have a precise definition in what form and to what extent attention should be paid to this field. Another reason is the insufficient cooperation between schools and National Parks.   References: Beregszászi, P. (1995). Štúdia k pojmu cestovný ruch orientovaný na životné prostredie. Opis:
Purpose: The goal of this article is evaluation and comparative analysis of the usage of renewable energy sources in the countries of the Visegrád Group in the years 2000-2020, in context of the current environmental situation in the European Union, concerning the reduction of CO2 emissions. Design/methodology/approach: The data regarding the creation of renewable energy used in this article is divided into: solar energy, wind energy, biomass and hydroenergy the division, in order to evaluate their usage in the energy mix of the Visegrád Group nations. Furthermore, in the research, the data on CO2 emissions in those countries has been used to measure the effects of the European Union's environment policy. This analysis used: average annual rate of change, trend function, as well as dependency analysis using the Pearson correlation coefficient. Findings: The results of the study suggest, that all of the countries belonging to the Visegrád Group take systemic measures to increase the share of renewable sources in the energy mix (most intensively in Poland). Nonetheless, the countries that reduce CO2 emissions the fastest are the Czech Republic and Slovakia. A smaller amount of success in this area is noted by Hungary. The CO2 emission rate per capita in Poland is maintained on a constant level, which shows ineffectiveness of the actions taken as part of the environmental policy. Research limitations/implications: The main limitation of the study is the usage of simple analytical methods of evaluation, that result from poor quality of available data and the restriction of the environmental effect assessment, which only identifies the correlation of linear relationships between CO2 emissions and the involvement of renewable sources in the energy mix of the studied countries. Practical implications: The results represent a foundation for recommendations to address the energetic policies of the studied countries. They may also serve as an example of the energy mix transformation in growing economies. Social implications: The results point to a low usage of renewable energy in the Visegrád Group and also partly (Poland, Hungary) a small range of the reduction of CO2 emissions per capita, which suggests the need to intensify actions for more efficient energy mix transformations, as well as sustainable development in the studied countries. Originality/value: The authenticity of the study results stems from a comparative analysis of the Visegrád Group's countries energy resource mix. Another advantage of this analysis is its embedding in the context of CO2 emission results.

Opis:
At least since 2014 the European Union (EU) has been facing the migrant and refugee crises, which have become an important test of solidarity of the Member States (MS). The effectiveness of the common migration and asylum policy has proven to be limited. The crises became a destabilizing factor leading to disagreements and divisions between MS. The position of the Visegrad Group (V4) states stood out in the debate on migration and refugee challenges. The objective of this article is to examine to what extent the migrant and refugee crises 2014+ in Europe, the limited effectiveness of the EU migration and asylum policy and the differences between the MS in their approaches influenced the situation, in which the Visegrad states attempted to find a common voice, strengthen their position in the EU and formulate the basis for the future common policyon migration and asylum. The article presents the migration and asylum situation in the Visegrad Group countries in recent years, then it discusses the V4 response to the migrant and refugee crisis and the EU solutions with a special focus on relocation and resettlement schemes and finally it provides the content analysis of the V4 official documents.

Opis:
The Russian Federation is the big biggest petrol and natural gas exporter to the European petrol market. The V4 countries are a part of this market. They have various energy potential, various foreign policy making conceptions and finally they have different opinions about UE`s role on the European petrol market. What they share is dependency on the Russian Federation in the natural gas and petroleum import, and energy security concerns. All this together overlaps with Russian “energy hegemony” strategy aimed at using the natural resources as a tool to create foreign and domestic policies and influencing ongoing events in Europe. Thus a paper entitled “Russian Federation`s energy strategy towards Visegrad Group Countries” aims to characterize relations between Russian Federation and V4 Countries within the energy policies conducted by this international relations players.

Opis:
The problem of the mass influx of migrants affected all European countries. Many European Union Member States (especially these belonging to the Schengen zone), built fences and barbed wire that have to stop the migration flow. Union failed to fully regain the control of the external borders, and the Member States are unable to reach agreement on ways to solve the prolonging crisis of migration. Especially illegal immigration is a pressing problem and a big security risk. Visegrad Group countries from the beginning of the crisis have become transit countries for illegal migrants trying to get to Western Europe. The situation causes a serious threat, mostly related to cross-border security of these countries. Despite the firm opposition to European Commission proposals on the relocation of migrants, the Visegrad Group seeks for consensus and a common strategy against the crisis overwhelming Europe. The author analyzes the responses, behavior and position of Visegrad countries to the above problem.
Chociaż występują stanowcze sprzeciwy wobec propozycji Komisji Europejskiej, Grupa Wyszehradzka dąży do porozumienia i wypracowania wspólnej strategii wobec ogarniającego Europę kryzysu. Autor analizuje reakcje, zachowania i stanowiska państw wyszehradzkich wobec powyższych problemów.

Opis:
The Visegrad Group was founded in 1991 as an informal association of three countries of Central and Eastern Europe, Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary. Its main goal was to develop cooperation among them, mainly concerning economic issues and accession to the European Union and NATO. Since the division of Czechoslovakia (January 1993) the group has included Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The purpose of this article is to present and compare the economic situation of Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia in the years 2001–2012. The article consists of an introduction and three parts entitled: Materials and Research Methodology, Research Results, and Summary and Conclusions. The main part (Research Results) analyses the most important macroeconomic indicators: GDP per capita, economic growth rate, inflation rates, changes in employment, unemployment rate, public debt ratio, current account balance and exchange rate.
W części zasadniczej (Wyniki badań) zanalizowano i porównano najważniejsze wskaźniki makroekonomiczne, tj.: PKB per capita, stopę wzrostu gospodarczego, stopę inflacji, zmiany zatrudnienia, stopę bezrobocia, wskaźnik długu publicznego oraz bilans obrotów bieżących i kurs walutowy.

Opis:
W artykule zbadano właściwości cykli koniunkturalnych w krajach Grupy Wyszehradzkiej. Głównym celem jest identyfikacja cykli koniunkturalnych w tych państwach i analiza powiązań pomiędzy nimi. Autor wykorzystuje modyfikację transformaty Fouriera do estymacji amplitud i częstotliwości cykli. Pozwala ona na precyzyjniejsze oszacowanie charakterystyk cykli niż w tradycyjnym podejściu. Analiza cross-spektralna komponentów cyklicznych PKB dla Czech, Węgier, Polski i Słowacji umożliwiła ocenę stopnia synchronizacji cykli koniunkturalnych w tych krajach.
This paper examines the business cycle properties of Visegrad group countries. The main objective is to identify business cycles in these countries and to study the relationships between them. The author applies a modification of the Fourier analysis to estimate cycle amplitudes and frequencies. This allows for a more precise estimation of cycle characteristics than the traditional approach. The cross-spectral analysis of GDP cyclical components for the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia makes it possible to assess the degree of business cycle synchronization between the countries.
