    Kvitka‑Osnovyanenko was the first prose writer of the new Ukrainian literature, the conventional starting point for which is dated as 1798, when Ivan Kotlyarevsky’s Aeneid was published. In 1833‑1834, Hryhoriy Kvitka‑Osnovyanenko began to publish his stories and short novels in Ukrainian. They served as a starting point for all subsequent prose in the Ukrainian language. A structural analysis of Kvitka’s prose has shown that his method of text construction still had much in common with folk tales: texts are constructed on the basis of elemental repetitions or binary oppositions. However, the author has already started to make important semantic shifts, introducing types of characters and collisions alien to folklore text per se. Thus the effect of deautomatization of the folklore perception is reached. The meaning of some texts, which were previously considered “humorous”, in the light of what has been said, acquires a meta‑narrative meaning: A Soldier’s Portrait and The Konotop Witch, have episodes that expose their main compositional technique (‘priyom’) and demonstrate the author’s conscious play with the narrative patterns of folklore.

    One of the most unusual events in the Ukrinian new wave literature is massive return women in it, which began in the end of 80-es. Among the most interesting writers there must be mentioned Oksana Zabuzhko, Svitlana Kasjanova, Jevhenia Kononenko, Sofia Majdanska, Valentyna Masterova, Halyna Pahutiak, Lubov Ponomarenko, Natalka Śniadanko and others. In the works of these authors, written from the femine and feministic position, as opposite to patriarchal-maskuline mentality, are deeply and convincingly considered the aspects of modern human exsistence: loneliness and alienation, loss of identity, lack of mutual understanding even among fellows and relatives, egoism and egocentism, various forms of physical and phsychological agression, and so on. Espacially great attention author of this article devotes to the analysis of chosen aspects of female identyty in the works of Zabuzhko (Field Exploration in Ukrainian Sex and others), Śniadanko (Collection of Pasions or Adventures ofYoung Ukrainian Lady), Kononenko (Without Fellow).

    Автор статті оцінює стан дослідження експериментальної літератури на прикладі недавно виданої монографії монографії Оксани Ковацької Експериментальні вітрила української прози 20-х років ХХ століття (Київ 2020). Дослідниця обрала період, який багатий на новаторські пошуки, вона концентрує увагу на найбільш цікавих експериментальних текстах, що належать Вікторові Петрову (Домонтовичу), Аркадію Любченкові та Майкові Йогансену. Монографія Оксани Ковацької видається піонерською працею у презентованому тут вимірі проблематики.
    The present study is dedicated to the contemporary research of the experimental literature, which was recognized as outstanding phenomena and as the form of artistic transgression during last time. The reason for reflection on this topic was the publication of the author’s monograph by Oksana Kovatska Experimental Sails of Ukrainian Prose of the 1920s (Kyiv 2020). The researcher appreciates the element of experiment in the Ukrainian post-revolutionary literature, and highly appreciates the innovative search of the young generation of contemporary writers. In particular, she focuses on three figures of literary experimentation, considering them in the context of the works of Viktor Petrov (Domontovych), Arkadii Liubchenko and Mike Johansen. Oksana Kovatska’s monograph is published as a pioneering work in the dimension of the problem presented here.

У цьому текстi я аналiзую топос дому в двох романах: “Дiм на горi” та “Привид мертвого будинку”.
    Home – one of the key concepts of culture – occupies an important place in the prose of a Ukrainian writer Walery Shevchuk. Literary topos of home appears in almost all his novels. The image of home in Shevchuk’s works symbolizes the universe of spiritual, ethical and moral values. It is understood in various ways: as a “promised land” where a hero goes, as a “lost paradise”, as an enclave of peace and security, as a man-made temple, or as a space of painful negative memories, In all of these ways there is a symbol of man, his inner world. In this text I analyze the symbol of home in two novels: “House on the Hill” and “Specter of the Dead House”.

    This article analyses combatant novels with a melodramatic component. The relevance of such an analysis is caused by the presence of a significant number of veteran artists' texts in contemporary Ukrainian literature and at the same time by the current absence of ґrunner studies of the indicated layer of works. The main features of melodrama as a genre of mass literature were identified, and by means of comparative analysis the dual and distinctive qualities of the novel by a writer with combat experience and a non-combatant were shown.

    Farewell to Empire is not a one-off act but an extremely complex process that has lasted many years. The decolonisation and de-Sovietisation of Ukrainian society is possible only by overcoming the mental effects of colonialism. Existence from revolution to revolution, and in consequence from revolution to war, was an experience shared by at least three generations of Ukrainian writers. However, each generation has either had different experiences with the previous political system, or none at all. Yet their lives are now connected with it through the experiences of previous generations. In the case of the contemporary analysis of Ukrainian women’s prose, the postcolonial perspective, combined with gender studies and a feminist critique, provides an extensive theoretical background for distinguishing the consequences of colonial/totalitarian practices and resistance strategies. In these narratives, women are the subjects and they speak in their own names. By analysing the literary representations of female figures who have contributed to the literary development of the independent state since the 1990s, the women can recreate their roles in creating modern Ukrainian statehood, shaping an independent society, or, on a micro scale, recreating their path to (re)constructing their own identity.

    W artykule dokonano analizy porównawczej wczesnej twórczości Zofii Nałkowskiej i Iryny Wilde pod względem nowatorstwa zastosowanych technik pisarskich. W toku analiz wiele uwagi poświęcono motywom wspólnym obu pisarkom, zwłaszcza eksponowaniu przez nie wewnętrz-nego świata kobiety. Szczegółowo zanalizowano wypowiedzi współcze-snych krytyków na temat dzieł obu pisarek, wskazując pewne paralele.
    The article presents a comparative analysis of early works by Zofia Nałkowska and Iryna Vilde due to their innovatory character in the literature of their era. The article examined the critical assessment of their works in detail and points out certain parallels in the reception of critics at the time. In the analysis,special attention has been given to similar themes in the works by both these writers, especially their focus on women’s inner world and search for new means of artistic expression.

    In the present article the output of such authors as V. Szewchuk, V. Drozdo and V. Zemlak, making use of folklore traditions is being analyzed. Artistic means of expression characteristic of folklore intermingle in the works of these authors with the so-called folk culture of laughter. The contemporary Ukrainian prose continuing literary traditions endeavours to reach out for new forms of artistic utterance.

Autor bada strategię modelowania literackich heteroobrazów, która ma ścisły związek ze strategią antykolonialną literatury ukraińskiej XIX wieku.
    The article emphasizes the image of a Pole as „other” representation in the historical prose of Nechuy-Levitskiy, Mordovets and Starytskiy. The author examines the modeling strategies of heteroimages in which the “othering” of Poles collective images is connected with the anticolonial strategy of Ukrainian literature of the late 19th century.

    The article is devoted to the description of the semantic fi eld “costume” on the material of Ukrainian postmodern text. The costume — is one of the complex systems that functions in the area of culture and closely cooperates with a lot of its elements, it is a screen on which we can see all aspects of the physical, spiritual, social development in projection, it is directly linked to the image of a person, his mood, behavior, it is a key to culture, a component of ethnic, called the semantic field.

Der Begriff der „Heterotopie“, der von Michel Foucault in seinem Aufsatz „Andere Räume“ entworfen wurde, gehört zu den am häufigsten verwendeten Konzepten der aktuellen Raumwissenschaften. Literarisch-künstlerische Heterotopien fixieren eine Destruktion des homogenen sozialen Raumes, in deren Verlauf das Utopische und das Real-Pragmatische, die bis dahin eine Einheit bildeten, unter dem Druck der ehemals repressierten oder verdrängten, nun aber ihren Eingang in die Kultur wieder findenden Ideen als zwei konträre Prinzipien auftreten. Im Beitrag wird am Beispiel einiger repräsentativer Werke von Jurij Andruchovyč, Serhij Žadan und Vjačeslav Šnajder der Semantik und den Funktionen der Heterotopien im Kontext der literarischen Kartierung des Raums der postsowjetischen Ukraine nachgegangen.
    Borys Bigun, Erik Martin, HETEROTOPIA IN THE UKRAINIAN CONTEMPORARY PROSE (JURIJ ANDRUCHOVYČ, SERHIJ ŽADAN UND VJAČESLAV ŠNAJDER). “PORÓWNANIA” 1 (24), 2019. Vol. XXIV, P. 45-53. ISSN 1733-165X. The concept of “heterotopia”, developed by Michel Foucault in his work “Of Other Spaces”, is one of the most frequently used notions in contemporary spatial studies. Literary and artistic heterotopias capture the destruction of a homogeneous social space, during which utopian and real-pragmatic principles that used to constitute one unified whole start to function as elements confronting each other under the pressure of previously repressed or played down and currently re-actualized ideas pertaining to a certain culture. Basing on the representative works by Yuriy Andrukhovych, Serhiy Zhadan and VyacheslavShnaider, the paper analyzes the semantics and functions of heterotopias in the context of literary mapping of post-Soviet Ukraine.

    The essay examines Margaryta Surzhenko’s novel АТО. Історії зі Сходу на Захід (2015). In the context of the ongoing fi ghting in the Donbass area, this type of narrative brings refl ection to the national identity of the inhabitants of Eastern Ukraine and their escape from the war zone. Th e author focuses not only on the migration but also on the information space (pro-Russian) under the infl uence of which the inhabitants of Donbass lived their whole lives. Ordinary people suddenly found themselves in the center of a dangerous armed confl ict. Such a course of the situation needs to be analyzed in the context of the long-term coexistence of Russians and Ukrainians, as well as the infl uence of power in those areas. Changing the balance of power in the region aff ected ordinary residents, oft en forcing them to escape.
    У статті йдеться про віддзеркалення в сучасній жіночій літературі конфлікту в зоні АТО. Роман Маргарити Сурженко розповідає про долю людей, які стали жертвами геополітики та були змушені через війну покинути свої домівки та дотеперішнє життя. Однією з причин цієї ситуації є те, що протягом років незалежності українська держава не впоралася з проблемою радянської спадщини, зокрема, донині залишилися не вирішеними проблеми з дев’яностих років – проблема ідентичності, ментальності, мовна ситуація та багато інших.

    Modern Ukrainian prose reflects the realities of Russo-Ukrainian war that has been in progress for over eight years. One of the aspects is the life of average citizens in the occupied territories. Donetsk used to be a well-off Ukrainian metropolis. Today, it is the capital of an unrecognized republic, the territory of anarchy. The article leans on Baby Daughter by Tamara Duda (alias Seed of a Walnut) and Long Hours by Volodymyr Rafieienko to outline the specificity of representing Donetsk as heterotopia at conceptual, discourse and chronotope levels, as well as at the level of separate ways to narrativise the artistic world of the story.

    The paper focuses on the issue of retranslation perceived as a significant aspect of contemporary practice of literary translation into Ukrainian, exemplified by the cases of the retranslation of short stories by Bruno Schulz and Tadeusz Konwicki’s Minor Apocalypse. The emergence of new translations within a short time encourages questions about the ambitions that drove translators and publishers to present new translations of the previously translated literary works, as well as about the strategies used by translators.
    Artykuł poświęcony jest zagadnieniu ponownego tłumaczenia będącego ważnym elementem współczesnej praktyki tłumaczenia literackiego na język ukraiński na przykładzie nowych przekładów opowiadań Brunona Schulza i Małej Apo¬kalipsy Tadeusza Konwickiego. Pojawienie się nowych przekładów po upływie względnie krótkiego czasu prowokuje pytania o motywy pobudzające tłumaczy i wydawców do publikacji nowych przekładów wcześniej tłumaczonych dzieł, a także o stosowane przez tłumaczy strategie.

    У статті досліджено синоніми, що функціонують у текстах сучасної української жіночої прози. Проаналізовано значення лексичних одиниць, що вступають у синонімічні відношення за певних контекстуальних умов. Наведено семантичні процеси, за яких відбувається семне варіювання у значеннях синонімів. За допомогою методу компонентного аналізу описано семний склад значень синонімів: виявлено інтегральні, диференційні й оказіональні складники семантики низки близьких за значенням слів. З’ясовано особливості трансформації семного складу значень слів під впливом контексту. Наголошено, що значення слів під впливом контексту зазнає певних зрушень, що зумовлює поступ синонімічних відношень.
    Artykuł przedstawia synonimy funkcjonujące w tekstach współczesnej ukraińskiej prozy kobiecej. Analizowane są znaczenia jednostek leksykalnych wchodzących w relacje synonimiczne w określonych warunkach kontekstowych. Podano procesy semantyczne, w wyniku których następuje semantyczna wariacja w znaczeniach synonimów. Metodą analizy składowej opisano semantyczną kompozycję znaczeń synonimów: ujawniono całkowe, różnicowe i okazjonalne składowe semantyki wielu bliskich znaczeniowo słów. Wyjaśniono osobliwości transformacji składu rdzeni znaczeń słów pod wpływem kontekstu. Podkreśla się, że znaczenie słów pod wpływem kontekstu ulega pewnym zmianom, które warunkują postęp relacji synonimicznych.
    This paper is devoted to synonyms that function in the texts of modern Ukrainian female prose. The meanings of lexical units that enter into synonymous relations under the certain contextual conditions are analyzed. The semantic processes during which there is a semantic variation in meanings of synonyms are given. Using the method of component analysis, the semantic composition of the meanings of synonyms is described: the integral, differential and occasional components of the semantics of synonyms are revealed. The peculiarities of the transformation of the seme structure of words meanings under the context influence are clarified. It is emphasized that words meaning under the influence of the context undergoes certain changes, which determines the promotion of synonymous relations.

Postępująca od lat dziewięćdziesiątych w wysokoartystycznym dyskursie literackim oraz w literaturze środka demitologizacja figury Berehyni jest jednym z najważniejszych elementów procesu (re)konstruowania kobiecej tożsamości społeczno-kulturowej, gdyż zawiera się w tej demitologizacji sprzeciw kobiet wobec zastanej sytuacji. Współczesne autorki dobitnie pokazują, że za symbolem prawdziwej ukraińskiej kobiety kryją się różnorodne jednostki, mające swoje rzeczywiste problemy, doświadczenia i przede wszystkim niemające dotąd prawa do własnej reprezentacji.
    The author analyses the literary treatments aimed at the demythologization of the Berehynia figure in selected novels by Oksana Zabuzhko, Sofija Andrukhovych and Natalka Sniadanko. Progressing from the nineties in a highly artistic literary discourse (and also in middle literature) the demythologization of the Berehynia figure is one of the most important elements of the process of the (re)construction of the female socio-cultural identity, as it contains the opposition of women to the existing situation.

    For the first time, the article systematically and comprehensively investigates the problem of „a man and war”, „personality and national identity” in the texts by writers of the Ukrainian Diaspora of the 1940s-1980s. It is founds out why these issues have long been relevant in the literature of the Ukrainian Diaspora, which factors have influenced the development of historical, social and socio-psychological prose, and enhanced its documentary and biographical origin. Peculiarities of the reception of war in the Diaspora prose are analyzed through the prism of a witness, chronicler of the events. It is a study of war in different coordinates: historical, psychological, social, philosophical, existential. Also the article are comprehended the specificity of the Ukrainian-centric model of war in the literature by the Ukrainian Diaspora and ways of refuting a number of Soviet myths cultivated by many mainland writers and historians. The subject of the study were the big prose by the Ukrainian Diaspora, including Ivan Bagryany, Vitaly Bender, Dokia Humenna, Igor Kachurovsky, Oleksa Kobets, Igor Kostetsky, Oleksandr Lugovoi, Stepan Lyubomirsky, Ulas Samchuk etc., their critical literary practice and correspondence.

    Стаття присвячена питанням, що розглядалися під час міжнародної конференції „Мотив хвороби в історії літератури і культури посттоталітарних країн ЦентральноСхідної Європи”, що відбулася 6 листопада 2020 року. Основні теми доповідачів були сфокусовані на питаннях хвороби як дефекту у літературі, на травмі втрати, тематиці хвороби й зцілення у світовій літературі від її початку до сьогодення, включно з періодами Київської Русі, Ренесансом, Бароко і Модернізмом та побутування травматичного досвіду в наративах Голодомору, сучасної української жіночої прози і здатності українського сакрального і декоративного, а також сучасного жіночого мистецтва візуалізувати хворобу і допомагати митцям здолати свої травми.
    The article is dedicated to the issues considered during the international conference “The motive of the disease in the history of literature and culture of post-totalitarian states of Central and Eastern Europe”, which took place on November 6, 2020. The main topics of the speakers were focused on the disease as a weakness in the literature, the trauma of loss, the theme of illness and healing in world literature from its beginning to the present, including the periods of Kyiv Rus, Renaissance, Baroque and Modernism and the traumatic experience in the narratives of the Holodomor, Ukrainian women’s prose and the ability of Ukrainian sacred and decorative, as well as modern women’s art to visualize the disease and help artists overcome their injuries.

    Na podstawie analizy historycznych badań, a także powieści ukraińskich pisarzy Galicyjskich końca ХІХ – początku ХХ w., – Kasi Grynewyczewej «Kaski w słońcu», Iwana Franki «Zachar Berkut» i Juliana Opilskiego «Złoty Lew» dokonano próby ukzania epoki Daniela Halickiego. W artykule wskazano, że proza literacka z zary-sowanej problematyki wyodrębnia się pionierstwem i oryginalnością przedstawienia problemu, niestandardowym poszukiwaniem świeżości i związkiem z realnymi i historycznymi wydarzeniami. Gruntowne studia nad materiąłem pisemnym, folklorystycznym i innymi źródłami pozwoliły stworzyć teksty, które nie utraciły swojej aktualności. Mimo, że autorzy w swoich utworach nie przedstawiali jaskrawych batalistycznych scen, triumfalnych zwycięstw, udało im się odtworzyć «duch czasu», pokazać społeczne wartości.
    The paper is shows the epoch of Daniel Galician and is based on the historical analysis and the prose of such Ukrainian and Galician writers of the 20th century as Katra Hrynevyche-va’s «Helmets of the Sun», Ivan Franko’s «Zahar Berkut» and Julian Opilskyy’s «Golden Lion». It has been proved in the article that the above mentioned literary prose is characterized by originality in displaying a problem and a non-standard way of finding relations with real and historical events. A detailed study of written sources, folklore and other sources made it possible to create such literary texts which still have not lost their relevance. Although the authors in their works did not depict any vivid scenes of battles, or triumphal victories, they managed to recreate the «zeitgeist» and show some social values.

    The article describes the possibilities of an essay in the teaching Ukrainian to foreign students of humanities. The author outlines the specifics of the genre, emphasizing the subjective interpretation of the topic as the essential characteristic, the main genre law of the essay. It is described the development of Ukrainian essay prose. It is emphasized the dependence of the genre on the political climate in society. An essay develops where there is an opportunity to freely express their own point of view, demonstrating the independence of thinking. The author substantiates the importance of using essays in the teaching of foreign students in the humanities. This enriches the knowledge of students in the chosen specialty and promotes the development of critical thinking and the complex feeling the text, which is the basis of professional competence in humanities. The author considers the essay in the form of a column to be optimal (in terms of volume and style) for effective reading in a foreign audience. The effectiveness of reading and discussing a particular text can only be guaranteed if it is selected, taking into account a number of objective and subjective factors (level of language proficiency, students’ professional and personal interests, their nationality, psychological microclimate in the group) and the use of appropriate methods of work: reading with comments, method of expression of thoughts, discussion, essay about essay. These forms of work are demonstrated on the example of essays by Y. Andrukhovych, S. Zhadan, O. Zabuzhko and others. Reading modern Ukrainian essays is able to improve the communication skills of a foreigner, deepen his professional knowledge, raise interest in the culture of Ukraine and promote the development of personally important features.

    The article focuses on factors and manifestations of postmodern text fragmentation. A fragment is one of the central concepts of modern and postmodern literature. The modernist fragment was a means of cognitive activity and a form of its adequate representation. It was determined by the basic concept of the integrity of a literary phenomenon and recognition of its encoded meaning, as well as encouraged the reader to invent missing parts. It has been proven that for postmodernist prose, the fragment is the only possible mode of its existence, an artistic strategy and an artistic device. The postmodernist text is positioned by the game field, where equal participants play with multiple-order fragments. Such fragments include preceding artistic traditions and techniques. Text fragmentation is enhanced by equalizing the rights of the author, character and the reader. Each participant of the literary communication has their own (partial) view of the art world. Narrative strategies of prose fragmentation are determined by the ways of building rhizomatic narratives and the peculiarities of their perception by the receptionist. Ukrainian and Polish writers use various means of constructing a fragmented text at the levels of its conceptualization, narrative structure, interpretative and receptive strategy, image-based specificity (intermediateness etc.).

    The analysis of research material aims to present the borrowings from the Polish language employed in two selected historical novels by 20th century writers from Galitia. The examples of borrowings subject to the description and analysis prove that Polish and Ukrainian languages exerted linguistic influence on each other through common history and culture of Eastern Galitia. The analysis of borrowings accounts for the introduction to further studies of borrowings as used by other writersfrom Galitia, which would enable to address issues of linguistic specificity of particular region in terms of borrowings.

    Celem artykułu jest ukazanie stosunków polsko-ukraińskich przed i na początku II wojny światowej w świetle wybranej prozy kresowej. Studium pokazuje, że relacje między dwiema nacjami były skomplikowanym pod względem społeczno-politycznym procesem w okresie przed i na początku II wojny światowej. Stosunki te, mimo pozornej harmonii i zgody w okresie przedwojennym, z czasem przetransformowały się w traumatyczne konflikty na początku wojny. Zwieńczeniem ich stało się ludobójstwo Polaków dokonane przez Ukraińców w kolaboracji z Sowietami i Niemcami.
    The aim of this article is to show the Polish-Ukrainian relations before and at the beginning of World War II in the light of the selected borderland prose. The study shows that the relationship between the two nations was complicated in terms of socio-political process in the period before and at the beginning of World War II. 'ose relations, despite the alleged harmony and concord in the prewar period of time turned into traumatic conflicts at the beginning of the war. The culmination of it was a genocide of Poles carried out by the Ukrainians in collaboration with the Soviets and the Germans.

    Lately in Ukrainian literature many texts appeared about of Russian-Ukrainian war. War is actual in a literary process, she is in works of writers that did not participate in war as fighters, also as proses, poetries and dramas of combatants. Prose of combatants is examined in this article. Many authors prefer the genre of diary. But only little part of authors really conducted a diary on this war. Most authors were written in social networks. Returning from war, they used written in social networks, as basis for books. For all authors the books of that we studied, there are receptions of fiction in memoirs. We came in to the conclusion, that new memorialists modernized the genres of diary and remembrance.

    The article examines selected works by representatives of the Polish-Ukrainian literary borderlandof the nineteenth century (Michal Czajkowski, Michal Grabowski, Zenon Fisz and PaulinSwiecicki) for the presence of these elements in a local myth. The definition of myth, its determinantsand functions assumed by Ernst Cassirer’s and Mircea Eliade’s conception, which, as seems,to best reflect the nature and structure of local myth, recorded in the works of these writers.Selected and described such elements of local myth, as its reproducibility, dichotomy character,sacred and Christian folklore and timelessness. It was shown, that in order to create this mythmade reinterpretation of history, reality combined with imagination, literature with folklore, pagancustoms with Christian faith.

    The aim of the article is a characterization of Emma Andiyevska’s and Toni Morrison’s fiction in the context of religious elements present in the novels. In the course of an ideological and thematic analysis of a few selected novels the features of the writers’ outlook and their individual ideologies have been described and commented upon. Specific characteristics of their prose writing, the philosophical content and existential problems in their novels have been also identified. Both the Ukrainians and the Afro-Americans – despite the differences in their history – formed their national and cultural identity in the course of enslavement and suffering they had undergone in their past and this finds an expression in the novels of both authors under discussion. The conclusion points out that religion in its moral, psychological and symbolic aspects plays an important role in both Ukrainian and Afro-American cultures. The article focuses on the following novels selected for analysis: “Herostrats”, “A Novel about a Good Person” and “A Novel about Human Destiny” by Emma Andiyevska and “Beloved” and “Jazz” by Toni Morrison. The main characters of these novels serve a noble aim – to preserve their moral principles in order not to lose their own and national identity. They react to various hard moments and twists of fortune and are exposed to boundary situations in their lives which cause various changes in the structure of the “I-person” (the narrator). Special attention is devoted to the characters’ complex inner world. The writers highlight universal spiritual values against the background of historical events and everyday reality. Characters of their novels have to survive in an alien environment and take care to preserve their national consciousness. The trinity concept of „God – motherland – an individual person” as the principle providing order and structure to the life of a community or of a nation can be seen in the novels of both authors. Emma Andiyevska’s and Toni Morrison’s fiction makes use of the religionrelated patriotic ideology to preserve the people’s experiences i.e. the Afro-American community’s painful life and the Ukrainian nation’s suffering, for the benefit of the future generations.
    Celem artykułu jest charakterystyka prozy (beletrystyki) Emmy Andijewskiej i Toni Morrison w kontekście religijnych elementów obecnych w opowiadaniach. W wyniku ideologicznej i tematycznej analizy kilku wybranych opowiadań i bohaterów opisano i wyjaśniono poglądy pisarek oraz ich indywidualne ideologie (literackie). Zidentyfikowano także specyficzną właściwość ich prozatorskiego pisarstwa, filozoficzną treść oraz problemy egzystencjalne poruszane w ich opowiadaniach. 149 Zarówno Ukraińcy, jak i Afroamerykanie – pomimo różnic w swojej historii – ukształtowali swoją narodową i kulturalną tożsamość podczas niewoli i cierpienia, jakie przeszli w swojej przeszłości i to znajduje wyraz, jak zauważono w trakcie dyskusji, w opowiadaniach obu autorek. Wniosek wskazuje na to, że religia w swoich moralnych, psychologicznych i symbolicznych aspektach odgrywa ważną rolę zarówno w kulturze ukraińskiej, jak i afroamerykańskiej. Artykuł skupia się na następujących opowiadaniach wybranych do analizy: „Herostrates”, „Opowiadanie o dobrej osobie” i „Opowiadanie o ludzkim przeznaczeniu” autorstwa Emmy Andijewskiej oraz „Ukochany” („Beloved”) i „Jazz” autorstwa Toni Morrison. Główni bohaterowie tych opowiadań służą szlachetnemu celowi – zachowaniu swoich moralnych zasad w porządku, aby nie utracić swojej własnej oraz narodowej tożsamości. Przeciwdziałają rozmaitym trudnym momentom i zwrotom losu oraz są wystawieni na graniczne sytuacje w swoim życiu, które powodują rozmaite zmiany w strukturze „ja-osoby” (narratora w pierwszej osobie). Specjalną uwagę poświęcono zespołowi wewnętrznego świata bohaterów. Pisarki naświetlają powszechne wartości duchowe na tle wydarzeń historycznych i rzeczywistości dnia powszedniego. Bohaterowie ich opowiadań muszą przetrwać w obcym środowisku i zadbać o zachowanie swojej świadomości narodowej. Trójca idei „Bóg – Ojczyzna – osoba indywidualna” jako zasada zapewniająca uporządkowanie i ustrukturowanie w życiu społeczności lub narodu daje się zauważyć w opowiadaniach obydwu autorek. Proza (beletrystyka) Emmy Andijewskiej i Toni Morrison czyni użytek z powiązanej z religią patriotycznej ideologii ,aby zachować ludzkie doświadczenie, np. bolesnego życia społeczności afroamerykańskiej i cierpień narodu ukraińskiego, przynoszących korzyści w przyszłych pokoleniach.     Powieść Olgi Tokarczuk Księgi Jakubowe to szeroka i skomplikowana panorama epicka, której akcja dzieje się na pograniczach państw, kultur i religii. Przetłumaczenie takiego utworu na jakikolwiek język to zadanie wymagające dużego trudu i starannych przygotowań, skierowanych przede wszystkim na opanowanie wszystkich możliwych kontekstów – historycznych, językowych, wyznaniowych. Szczególnie zaś trudnym wyzwaniem jest przetłumaczenie Ksiąg Jakubowych na jeden z języków, które są elementem rzeczywistości przedstawionej w powieści i znajdują się w relacjach interferencyjnych z innymi językami, używanymi przez bohaterów lub funkcjonującymi w ich środowiskach. Takim językiem jest właśnie język ukraiński. Artykuł jest próbą podsumowania doświadczenia przekładu powieści na ten język z uwzględnieniem największych trudności, z którymi przyszło zmierzyć się tłumaczowi.
    Olga Tokarczuk’s novel The Books of Jacob is a wide and complicated epic panorama the action of which takes place on the borderlands of countries, cultures, and religions. Translating such a work into any language is a task that requires a lot of effort and careful preparation, aimed first of all at exploring all possible contexts: historical, linguistic, religious. A particularly difficult challenge is to translate The Books of Jacob into one of the languages that are part of the reality presented in the novel and are in relationships of interference with other languages used by the characters or functioning in their environments. Ukrainian is such a language. This article is an attempt to summarise the experience of translating the novel into this language, taking into account the greatest difficulties faced by the translator.

    The topic of the article is the image of Polish kings and nobility in Roman Iwanyczuk’s historical prose. The analysis was conducted on the basis of three works written at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s. They are only a fragment of the rich literary heritage ofthe famous Ukrainian novelist. Ciemnoczerwone wino (Черлене вино) takes the reader to the 15th century, to Galicia‑Volhynia, which was threatened with polonization. Manuskrypt z ulicy Ruskiej (Манускрипт з вулиці Руської) shows the origin of the idea of the liberation war, the future Chmielnicki Uprising, in Lviv at the turn of the 16th and 18th century. The novel Woda z kamienia (Вода з каменю) presents the beginnings of the Ukrainian national revival in Galicia and the history of the Ruthenian Trinity, with its leader Markian Szaszkewicz. The cyclicality and connections between novels, gives Iwanyczuk’s work spatiotemporal continuity, which encompasses, above all, historical events and figures. The analyzed works present a clearly negative image of the representatives of Polish society, which results from the stereotypical approach to the perception of a Pole in the 20th century Ukrainian literature. Polish rulers and nobility are portrayed through the prism of Polish‑Ukrainian relations at socio‑political, religious and ideological level.
