Opis:
Recently, both the progress in some technological fields and multidisciplinary studies conducted with collaboration from different branches of science have impressive effect on clinically tested systems. Studies on development of visual prosthesis, which is based on passing damaged parts of the visual pathway and electrically stimulating nerve cells remaining intact, date back to elicit visual sense in blind patients. Investigation of some research topics, in silico, which should be taken into consideration in the design phase before expensive animal experiments provides great advantages in terms of both financial and time issues. In this study, factors such as heat, electric field distribution for current thresholds, current density which should be discussed in the design phase are simulated using monophasic rectangle pulses depending on various stimulation parameters with developed computational retina model. Change of heat, electric field, current density in points selected from center and periphery of retina tissue are investigated for various stimulation parameters. As a result, it is concluded that distribution of heat and electric field intensity over the periphery retina are much less than center region. Moreover, when larger pulse width is used, change of heat and electric field intensity seems much more in regions from center retina near stimulation electrode. Current density is higher in the sharp ends of the electrode than flat regions. Besides, when the size of stimulation electrode increases, electric field distribution becomes more uniform.

Opis:
Eutectoid growth, as the important reaction mechanism of the carbon steel heat treatment, is the basis to control the microstructure and performance. At present, most studies have focused on lamellar growth, and did not consider the nucleation process. Mainly due to the nucleation theory is inconclusive, a lot of research can support their own theory in a certain range. Based on the existing nucleation theory, this paper proposes a cooperative nucleation model to simulate the nucleation process of eutectoid growth. In order to ensure that the nucleation process is more suitable to the theoretical results, different correction methods were used to amend the model respectively. The results of numerical simulation show that when the model is unmodified, the lateral growth of single phase is faster than that of longitudinal growth, so the morphology is oval. Then, the effects of diffusion correction, mobility correction and ledges nucleation mechanism correction on the morphology of nucleation and the nucleation rate were studied respectively. It was found that the introduction of boundary diffusion and the nucleation mechanism of the ledges could lead to a more realistic pearlite.

Opis:
The cucurbitane-type triterpenoid glycosides, mogrosides, are the main active components of Siraitia grosvenorii fruit. Squalene and cucurbitadienol are among the intermediates of the biosynthetic pathway for the formation of cucurbitane-type triterpenoid backbones of mogrosides. It is recognized that the exogenous application of methyl jasmonate (MeJA) increases the accumulation of secondary metabolites in various plant species. Here, the effect of MeJA (50, 200, and 500 μM) on the accumulation of squalene and cucurbitadienol in the fruits of S. grosvenorii at 10, 20, and 30 days after flowering (DAF) was tested for the first time. Since mogroside II E is the main cucurbitane-type triterpenoid present at this time, its concentration was also determined. The results show that MeJA can indeed promote squalene and cucurbitadienol accumulation, the application of 500 μM MeJA at 30 DAF being optimal. The concentration of squalene and cucurbitadienol increased up to 0.43 and 4.71 μg/g dry weight (DW), respectively, both of which were 1.2-fold greater than that of the control. The content of mogroside II E increased by 15% over the untreated group. We subsequently analyzed the expression of key genes involved in the mogroside biosynthetic pathway, including the 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase gene (SgHMGR), squalene synthetase gene (SgSQS), cucurbitadienol synthase gene (SgCS), and cytochrome P450 (SgCYP450) with quantitative real-time PCR. The results showed that transcriptional levels of these genes were upregulated following the treatment described above. Additionally, their responses in the presence of MeJA was related to the concentration and timing of MeJA treatment.
