- Opis:
- A range of examples clearly show that the current model for multicultural society no longer properly functions – among them: the assassination of controversial film director in the Netherlands, the increase in crime and the sense of exclusion among the second generation of immigrants, the issue of Muslim women wearing veils in France, as well as the recent statements of leading European politicians. The aim of this work is to analyze and evaluate the phenomenon of multiculturalism and its impact on contemporary liberalism. The thesis of this work is that liberalism has boundaries, and crossing them means the loss of its identity. Open-ended acceptance and tolerance of all the claims made by various cultural, religious and ethnic groups leads to the self-annihilation of liberalism. Only a policy of multiculturalism that is aware of its own limitations is acceptable to liberal-democratic society. The primary method of this work is that of critical analysis of the leading representatives of 19th- and 20th-century liberal thought. Moreover, this dissertation adopts a research method that is enriched by the source analysis of contemporary press materials that underlie the subject of multicultural society in liberal democracies. The issue raised in this treatise required an interdisciplinary point of view. Therefore, within its field of interest are the matters embraced by political thought, sociology, history, cultural anthropology, ethnology, economics, social policy, and pedagogy.
