Opis:
Michał Witkowski’s novel Drwal (The woodcutter) shows various approaches to the subject of sexuality, what seems particularly inspiring, cognitively valuable and important from the perspective of this article is corporeality connected with elements related to money and finances, which are based on an integral, inseparable connection of two – seemingly not directly related – areas: sex and finances. For the novel’s protagonists, these two areas are inextricably complementing each other. The goal of this article is to examine and interpret the images of sexuality related to the sphere of finances presented by Witkowski, to understand their functions, to consider the consequences of combining these two areas, and to analyze the relationship between erotica relationship with the financial sphere and the uneroticizing of human sexuality. Thus the aim of this text is to verify whether the sexuality described in the novel is devoid of eroticism. Further, the paper discuse the manner of presenting these approaches to sexuality. The article also considerate the language of showing this specific approach to sexuality and reflection on its implications.

Opis:
In Stefan Grabiński’s works, the artist often uses metaphors to attribute anthropomorphic phenomena to non-human ones. This sketch is an attempt to look at examples of anthropomorphic metaphors in Stefan Grabiński`s novellas in terms of their ideological and artistic functions. The aim of this analysis is to verify whether the use of anthropomorphic metaphors is connected with attributing created worlds with non-realistic properties. For this purpose, it is worth interpreting and explaining the treatments used by the author, including their linguistic aspect, asking the question about the relation between the employed stylistic means and the effect of the created image of reality, and about the consequences of this way of constructing the world presented in Grabiński’s works.

Opis:
This article aims to problematize the issue of corporeality in Joanna Bator’s novel Chmurdalia, whitch was written in 2010. The aim of the sketch is to discuss and conceptualize the approaches to corporeality presented in the novel and to take into account such an approach to the human body that would take into account its specific subjective character. It is also advisable to verify the theses about the fundamental role of corporeality in Bator’s novel and about the subjectivity of the body. The last point is directly related to the – extremely important for my deliberations – elements of Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s concept. His theory seems to be especially valuable in the face of the phenomenon of “looking at the body”” that is taking place today. According to the philosopher, the uniqueness of corporeality manifests itself in the fact that the body is not limited only to what is seen, but is also what it watches. The text includes a reflection on the present Chmurdalia shots of corporeality related to the corporeality of the main character, Dominika Chmura, as well as the body of Dominika’s friend, Sara Jackson, and the hairdresser Tadeusz Kruk’s theme.

Opis:
The essay is an attempt to sketch a panorama of representations of the body, corporeality and their relation to gender identity in prose written after 1989, a caesura of particular significance for corporeality. The text discusses literary images of gender identity on the basis of available studies that show the state of research in this field. The essay refers to the concept of the androgynous myth and also refers to the theories of the ‘opaque body’ and the ‘unwanted body’. The problematics contained in the text refer to the works of Olga Tokarczuk, Natasza Goerke, Izabela Filipiak and Andrzej Czcibor-Piotrowski, among others, which deal with the body-related gender identity. The study does not consider works that contain literary representations of gender identity that function in isolation from the body, but focuses on those that are central to the issues of corporeality. This stems from the assumption of the importance of the bodily experience in a literary work that should not only refer to the body, but also touch on the essence of humanity.
