    Purpose: The aim of this article is to analyze personal data protection requirements specifically in the context of the freight forwarding industry. Design/methodology/approach: This article looks into the legal regulation of personal data protection and examines its application by freight forwarding companies, taking into account the specific needs found in this industry. This article should provide managers with the knowledge of how to properly protect personal data while increasing this way the company's competitive edge on the market. By analyzing legally binding laws and explaining them in a comprehensive way, focusing on the needs of the freight forwarding industry and the way it handles personal data. Findings: The study revealed that the handling of personal data in the freight forwarding industry carries a high data risk theft. Moreover, a company in the freight forwarding industry can take on many roles in relation to personal data (i.e. controller, co-controller, or contract processor) and takes on the financial responsibility for that personal data. Originality/value: The article presents the processes of handling personal data by a freight forwarding company and a plan to be followed while it implementing of the rules of the GDPR. It is valuable for managers of the freight forwarding companies.

    Introduction/background: The performance of construction work is a process in which the legislator deeply interferes by devoting to it not only a separate act but also by regulating construction issues in several other acts. The management literature does not pay sufficient attention to legal matters, even though that they conclude some traps for the investor or the manager. Aim of the paper: To indicate and explain the idea and the stages of a construction investment project in light of the law with attention to the risks involved for the investor or the manager. Materials and methods: Analysis of literature, laws, and judgments. Results and conclusions: Regulations deeply interfere with the construction process, forcing the execution of subsequent steps in a specific order. Furthermore, every effort needs to carry out some actions. At the same time, there is a risk of failure of the investment for legal reasons during its course despite fulfilling the requirements stipulated at earlier stages. For this reason, it is essential to plan the construction investment and the project manager has to have a legal culture greater than in the case of other projects.

    Purpose: The aim of the paper is to examine the specific issues concerning intellectual property protection in the development and functioning of smart city. The authors describe Polish law of intellectual property protection and interpret it in terms of actions carried out when the smart city is created, implemented, and then managed. Design/methodology/approach: This work uses the formal and dogmatic method typical of legal sciences. It contains the content of legal norms and their interpretation, and is based on the analysis of the literature as well. Findings: There are many areas where the law of intellectual property protection is directly related to acts taken when a city is transformed into smart city, covering the scope of copyright and industrial property. They are mentioned and analysed and their implications for city management are discussed. Practical implications: We have shown what smart city managers should know from the scope of intellectual property regulations. This lets them to avoid infringement of someone else's intellectual property on the one hand and to be aware of how to protect the effort put into development work. Social implications: The article enriches the theory both of legal sciences and management sciences. From the managerial point of view, it broadens the competences of local government managers. From a legal point of view, the work analyzes provisions on the protection of intellectual property in the context of reforming the city towards a smart city as well as of its functionning. Originality/value: It is one of the few, if not the first, study in Polish literature dedicated to the issues of intellectual property protection in smart city.

    Introduction/background: Dynamic growth and competition of an organization need also improving the human resources management processes. However in local government units, this system has always been shaped under completely different conditions, determined by legal provisions. Meanwhile with socio-economic development and changing society people started to expect effectiveness and efficiency also in the public sphere, which resulted in focusing attention on the effectiveness of people employed and raising the level of customer service in public administration. Therefore, it became necessary to introduce the process of human resources management also in local government. Aim of the paper: The objective of the conducted research was to make an analysis and qualitative assessment of the process of human resources management in local government units and to show the influence of this process in local government on the efficiency and effectiveness of its functioning. Materials and methods: The conclusions presented in this paper are a result of a critical evaluation of the literature related to the topic of the work, legal provisions, participant observation, individual case study of the examined public organisation and a survey conducted among 60 people. The research methodology that was used in the study is a quantitative method. Results and conclusions: The research showed that local government units improve the recruitment process, carry out periodic assessments and develop an employee development plan, but do not create a coherent process and limit themselves to the obligatory minimum. So, the local government administration must strive to fill job positions with professional, competent and properly prepared employees.

    Celem artykułu jest określenie natężenia procesów zmian strukturalnych oraz identyfikacja kierunku i zakresu ich oddziaływania na wydajność pracy w krajach Europy Środkowej w latach 1995–2018. Zastosowano metodę shift-share i przeprowadzono analizę tych zależności na poziomie dziewięciu sektorów. W większości badanych krajów duże znaczenie dla wzrostu wydajności pracy miały przesunięcia siły roboczej do sektorów o relatywnie wysokiej wydajności pracy. Największy wpływ zmian strukturalnych na stopę wzrostu wydajności pracy stwierdzono w przypadku gospodarki polskiej, charakteryzującej się relatywnie najniższym poziomem rozwoju gospodarczego spośród badanych krajów. W wybranych krajach Europy Środkowej najwyższa wydajność pracy występowała w sektorze high-tech KIS, natomiast najwyższa dynamika wydajności pracy – zazwyczaj w przemyśle high-tech. Sektory stymulujące wzrost wydajności pracy miały jednak relatywnie mały udział w zatrudnieniu. Z tego względu udział tych sektorów w zagregowanym wzroście wydajności pracy był znacznie mniejszy niż usług o niskim nasyceniu wiedzą czy też przemysłu low-tech.
    The aim of the study was to determine the intensity and direction of structural change processes as well as their impact on labour productivity in Central Europe from 1995 to 2018. The shift-share analysis method was used to conduct an analysis of these interrelationships across nine sectors. In the majority of the analysed countries, a major driver of productivity was a shift of the workforce to sectors with a relatively high level of labour productivity. Structural change was the key driver of labour productivity in the Polish economy. Across the studied Central European countries, the highest level of labour productivity was recorded in hi-tech knowledge-intensive services, while hi-tech industries showed the fastest growth in terms of labour productivity. The sectors that drove the growth of labour productivity made a relatively low contribution to total employment. As a result, these sectors contributed much less to aggregate labour productivity growth than low knowledge-intensive services and low-technology industries.

    Background and aim of the study: Sciatic neuralgia, ischialgia (Latin: ischias) is the syndrome of signs resulting from compression on spinal radices L4, L5 or S1, which form the sciatic nerve. Therapeutic approach in the treatment of these condition changes considerably and selected physiotherapeutic techniques are used increasingly often. Recently, we see an increasing number of publications concerning application of low frequency magnetic fields in medicine. Wide range of indications and possible practical uses provides a promising framework for their clinical applications. Material and method: Forty-seven patients with a diagnosis of sciatic neuralgia caused by degeneration of intervertebral disc were included in the study. Patients were divided into 3 groups treated by magnetotherapy, magnetostimulation or magnetoledtherapy in order to compare their efficacy. Subjective assessment of severity of pain was performed using the VAS scale. Additionally, a questionnaire was used, assessing frequency of analgesic medication. Quality of life was evaluated using the EuroQoL scale. Each patient underwent the Lasègue test during his/her physical examination. Results: Our results revealed a significant reduction of pain as expressed by VAS scale (p<0.01), considerably reduced consumptionof analgesic medication and improved quality of life as expressed by EuroQoL score (p<0.01) after application of low frequency magnetic fields. Conclusions: Treatment with magnetic fields, independent of implemented technique of delivery, resulted in reduction of pain, improved quality of life and reduced demand for analgesic medication. No significant advantage of any one of the methods analysed in relation to results obtained has been observed.
    Wstęp: Rwa kulszowa, ischialgia (łac. ischias) to zespół objawów związanych z uciskiem na przebiegu nerwów rdzeniowych L4, L5 lub S1 tworzących nerw kulszowy. Wiedza na temat leczenia zmienia się radykalnie i coraz częściej w leczeniu stosuje się wybrane metody fizykoterapeutyczne. W ostatnich latach ukazuje się coraz więcej publikacji dotyczących praktycznego wykorzystania w medycynie pól magnetycznych niskiej częstotliwości. Duża różnorodność wskazań oraz zastosowań w praktyce przynosi szerokie spektrum możliwości leczniczych. Materiał i metoda: Badaniami objęto grupę 47 pacjentów z rozpoznaniem rwy kulszowej spowodowanej zmianami zwyrodnieniowymi krążka międzykręgowego. Pacjentów podzielono na 3 grupy badawcze i poddano odpowiednio zabiegom magnetoterapii, magnetostymulacji i magnetoledoterapii w celu porównania przeprowadzonej terapii. Dokonano subiektywnej oceny odczuwanych dolegliwości bólowych w skali VAS. Dodatkowo posłużono się ankietą, w której oceniono częstość zażywania leków przeciwbólowych. Do oceny jakości życia wykorzystano skalę EuroQol. U każdego pacjenta podczas badania fizykalnego wykonano test Lasègue’a. Wyniki: Wykazano statystyczne zmniejszenie nasilenia odczuwanych dolegliwości bólowych w skali VAS badanych pacjentów (p<0,01), znaczną redukcję zażywanych leków przeciwbólowych oraz poprawę jakości życia ocenianej w skali EuroQol (p<0,01) po zastosowaniu zabiegów pola magnetycznego niskiej częstotliwości. Wnioski: Terapia polem magnetycznym bez względu na zastosowaną metodę zmniejsza odczuwane dolegliwości bólowe, co wpływa na poprawę jakości życia leczonych chorych. Zastosowana terapia przyczynia się również do ograniczenia przyjmowania leków przeciwbólowych. W badaniu nie stwierdzono znaczącej przewagi którejś z analizowanych metod w odniesieniu do otrzymanych wyników leczenia.
