- Opis:
- The chapter Mystery of Death and Psychoactive Substances by Bogusław Olszewski raises the question of the use of psychoactive substances in contemporary thanatology. The starting point is a theory suggesting the use of psychedelics in prehistoric shamanistic rituals reaching the Upper Paleolithic period. The use of these compounds in the field of psychotherapy has provided rich research material related to the multi-faceted experience of death, involving many mystical elements known from traditional cultures. The paper presents a review of the pioneering studies using entheo-gens: LSD, psilocybin, mescaline and DMT, and also determines possible directions for future research. The material obtained during the experiments is highly controversial and inconsistent with the current scientific paradigm. The exploration of neardeath experiences (NDEs) in the extended state of perception provides some interesting data about the nature of mind and implies the possibility of its further functioning, in a postbiological form, in the objective reality. This context situates death in an endless continuum of empirical experience of reality, and the dying process becomes the ultimate transition into an altered state of consciousness.
