    This paper aims to present the views (supported by the latest scientific research) on the relationship between an individual’s musical development and language acquisition. This paper also describes the challenges that experts in early education must face. The analysis of the relationship between musical development and language acquisition begins with the discussion (based primarily on the works by John A. Slobody, Aniruddh Patel, and Edwin E. Gordon) on what is similar and what is different where music and language are concerned. Further, models of both musical and language development (by Anthony Brandt, Molly Gebrian and L. Robert Slevc) as well as children’s early acquisition of both music and language are all described. Sharing the view that the two processes may be regarded as parallel, i.e. that of children’s musical development and that of their first language acquisition, and taking into consideration that the processes differ, the present author addresses the related challenges for the early education and indicates the concept of social constructivism (by L.S. Vygotsky) as the most relevant paradigm for the language and musical education.

    W artykule podejmuję problematykę zmian w kształceniu nauczycieli przedszkoli i klas I–III szkoły podstawowej w Polsce zwracając uwagę na kontekst polityczno-ideologiczny i filozoficzny. Przywołuję tu argumenty przemawiające za koniecznością dbałości o jakość kształcenia i konieczność nieustannego dokształcania się nauczycieli. Zwracam uwagę na przydatny w tym zakresie Korelacyjny Model Profesjonalnego Rozwoju Nauczyciela Davida Clarke’a i Hilary Hollingsworth oraz na europejski kontekst rozwiązań w tym zakresie. W dalszej części zastanawiam się nad filozofią kształcenia nauczycieli wczesnej edukacji przytaczając m.in. krytyczne poglądy Potulickiej na temat neoliberalnej filozofii amerykańskiej oraz podając odmienne podejście Bay Area Teacher Training Institute (także amerykańskie) zwane BATTI, w którym zakłada się, że filozofia kształcenia nauczycieli powiązana jest ściśle z filozofią edukacji. W drugiej części przytaczam przykład własnych badań jakościowych nad antycypacją siebie w zawodzie nauczyciela wczesnej edukacji przez studentów. W wyniku analizy studenckich esejów wyłoniłam kilka typów nauczyciela: „profesjonalista”, „praktykant/stale uczący się”, „artysta/animator”, „przyjaciel dzieci i rodziców/autorytet”, „entuzjasta/pasjonat” i „konstruktywista”.
    In this study I describe the problem of changes in the education of pre-school and primary school (grades I-III) teachers in Poland, paying attention to the political and ideological as well as the philosophical context. I provide arguments for the need to care for the quality of education and the need for continuous teacher education. I draw attention to the David Clarke’s and Hilary Hollingsworth’s Correlation Model of Professional Development of Teacher, useful in this regard, and to the European context of solutions in this field. In the further part of the study, I consider the education philosophy of early school education teachers, citing for example Potulicka’s critical views on the neoliberal American philosophy, and providing a different approach of Bay Area Teacher Training Institute (BATTI) (also American), which assumes that the philosophy of teachers education is closely related to the philosophy of education. The second part of this article presents my own qualitative study on the self-anticipation of students regarding the profession of early school education teacher. As a result of the analysis of students’ essays, I selected several types of teacher: ‘professional’, ‘apprentice/constantly learning’, ‘artist/animator’, ‘friend of children and parents/authority’, ‘enthusiast/passionate, ‘constructivist’.

    This paper primarily aims to present, both theoretically and empirically, the art of children at the early education stage. In the first part of the paper I present theoretical foundations and exemplary studies of the creativity of children aged 4–9. In the empirical part I present results of the study of plastic and literary art of third-graders (age 9–10), undertaken under infl uence of music. In the study the method of observation and analysis of products were applied. The results show that children’s creativity bears features of an intellectual activity and it is saturated with children’s experiences, which is demonstrated by the adequate titles of their literary and plastic art works as well as by the descriptions of the music flow.

    Celem niniejszego artykułu jest prezentacja założeń filozoficznych wczesnej edukacji muzycznej. We wprowadzeniu zwracam uwagę na nieobecność filozofii wczesnej edukacji muzycznej w Polsce, nawiązując do istnienia jej elementów w teorii wychowania estetycznego i wywodzącej się z niej teorii wychowania muzycznego. W pierwszej części opracowania przedstawiam poglądy autorów reprezentujących dwa przeciwstawne podejścia w tym zakresie: tzw. estetyków i praksjalistów, pokazując jednocześnie, z jakich nurtów filozoficznych je wywodzą. Następnie omawiam różnice między prezentowanymi stanowiskami w zakresie filozofii edukacji muzycznej, po czym przechodzę do przedstawienia autorskiej propozycji kompromisu między dwoma stanowiskami. Zastosowana metoda to krytyczna analiza tekstów. Kompromisowe rozwiązanie, zwane przeze mnie estetyczno-praksjalnym, proponuję zastosować jako filozoficzne założenia wczesnej edukacji muzycznej.
    This paper aims at presenting philosophical assumptions of early music education. The introductory part draws the readers’ attention to the absence of any elements of early music education philosophy in Poland, even though such elements can be found both in the theory of aesthetic education and related music education theories. The first part of the article focuses on two opposite approaches, i. e., the aesthetic and the “praxial” one, presenting their philosophical background. After discussing the differences between one approach and the other, the author of the article presents her own idea how to reach a compromise between the aestheticians and the “praxialists”. The method she applies is the critical analysis of texts. The author suggests that the compromising solution, which she describes as an aesthetic-praxial one, should be applied as philosophical assumptions of early music education.

    Celem niniejszego opracowania jest prezentacja podstaw rozwijania muzykalności dziecka. W tekście wychodzę od omówienia głównych cech rozwojowych muzykalności, po czym omawiam najnowsze opisane w literaturze badania nad mózgiem, wyznaczające działania edukacyjne i przechodzę do prezentacji implikacji dla rozwijania muzykalności dziecka w okresie wczesnego i średniego dzieciństwa. Opis cech muzykalności dziecka uporządkowany jest tu według poszczególnych sfer rozwoju muzycznego uznanych jako główne składowe zdolności muzycznych (tu: muzykalności), a zatem cechy rozwoju percepcyjnego, cechy rozwoju pojęciowego, cechy rozwoju afektywnego oraz cechy rozwoju wokalnego i motorycznego. W tym fragmencie prezentuję też narzędzie badawcze Joanne Rutkowski: Miarę Rozwoju Głosu Śpiewaczego (Singing Voice Development Measure). W części pt. Z badań nad mózgiem przedstawiam wybrane, ważne dla edukacji muzycznej doniesienia z badań nad mózgiem, zwracając przy tym uwagę na funkcjonujące mity o roli mózgu oraz nieporozumienia wśród badaczy dotyczące błędnego rozumienia terminów okres krytyczny i okres optymalny w rozwoju. W ostatnim fragmencie koncentruję się na implikacjach płynących z badań dla kierowania aktywnością muzycznej dziecka w zakresie: słuchania, gry na instrumencie, śpiewania i ruchu przy muzyce. Tekst kończy się konkluzją na temat roli mózgu i nauczyciela w edukacji muzycznej i rozwoju muzykalności dziecka.
    This paper aims to present the key issues for developing children’s musicality. First, the main developmental characteristics of musicality are discussed. Then, the brain research results are presented, specifically those that have been most recently published and that specify the educational activities. What is discussed next are the implications for developing children’s musicality in the early and mid-childhood. The characteristics of children’s musicality are described here in accordance with the particular musical development domains known as the main components of musical skills (here: musicality), i.e.: the perception development characteristics, the ones of the conceptual development, as well as those of affective, vocal, and motor development. This is where the Singing Voice Development Measure by Joanne Rutkowski is also presented. The part of this paper entitled The brain research results focuses on the selected studies essential for musical education. It points to certain myths concerning the role of the brain as well as to the two concepts frequently misinterpreted even by academic experts, namely the critical period and the optimal period of the development. The third part of this paper concentrates on the implications of the research results as to directing children’s musical activity as far as listening, playing an instrument, singing, and moving to music are concerned. To conclude, this paper indicates the role of both the brain and the teacher in terms of musical education and children’s musicality development.

    W niniejszym tekście podejmowany jest problem przygotowania studentów do zawodu nauczyciela wczesnej edukacji. W pierwszej części opracowania problem kształcenia nauczycieli w różnych krajach europejskich przedstawiony jest w świetle Raportu Eurydice dla Komisji Europejskiej z 2013 r., a także zaprezentowana jest koncepcja Sylvii Yee Fan Tang, dotycząca dynamiki stawania się studentów nauczycielami. W drugiej części prezentowane są badania przeprowadzone przez autorkę wśród studentów Wydziału Nauk Społecznych w Uniwersytecie Warmińsko-Mazurskim w Olsztynie. Wyniki badań, poddane interpretacji na podbudowie teorii dwóch racjonalności Roberta Kwaśnicy, ujawniają ich postawę roszczeniową i myślenie (racjonalność) adaptacyjne w zakresie przygotowania do zawodu, z jednej strony, z drugiej zaś widoczne są cechy racjonalności emancypacyjnej, co widać w ich konstruktywnej, choć niezbyt mocno uzasadnionej, propozycji zmian w kształceniu.
    This paper addresses the issue of preparing students for the job of early education teacher. The first part focuses both on the teacher training as carried out in various European countries according to the Eurydice report prepared for the European Commission in 2013, and on the notion, presented by Sylvia Yee Fan Tang, of the dynamics of students’ turning to teachers. The second part demonstrates the author’s own research. The participants were students of the Social Science Faculty at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. The interpretation of the results is informed by Robert Kwaśnica’s two rationalities theory. The results demonstrate both the students’ attitude of entitlement and their adaptive thinking (rationality) as far as the preparing for the job is concerned. On the other hand, the results also show the participants’ emancipation rationality, which manifests itself in their constructive, though not thoroughly supported, suggestions pertaining to changes in education.
