Opis:
Article contains a detailed analysis and a preliminary selection of potential CO2 emitters that can supply gas for CCS-EOR projects in oil fields clusters in Poland. The idea of CO2 injection into clusters arises from the fact that oil reservoirs in Poland are relatively small, but very often located close together. Reservoirs grouping significantly increases the potential storage capacity and improves economic indicators. In addition, CCS-EOR projects combine CO2 storage (CCS) with an increase in production from mature oil fields (EOR). The analysis was performed using a database of carbon dioxide emitters in Poland created by the National Centre for Emissions Management. This database contains a list of all registered CO2 producers with annual emissions exceeding 1 Mg. On this basis, potential CO2 sources for previously selected four clusters of oil reservoirs were chosen.

Opis:
One of the enhanced oil recovery methods, which enables to recover an additional 15–20% of oil resources is the CO2-EOR method based on carbon dioxide injection into partially depleted reservoirs. Determination of the optimal process control facilitates effective use of natural resources. The idea of this paper is to develop an algorithm that optimizes the CO2-EOR process. This algorithm is based on the combination of artificial intelligence, control theory and computer simulation of hydrocarbon reservoirs. The effect of the proposed solution is the CO2-EOR process control, which is optimal in the case of the adopted objective function expressing the economic value of the project. The obtained results suggest that the use of artificial intelligence methods in the hydrocarbon production allows to improve the process efficiency by an additional 31% compared to the project carried out with the use of engineering knowledge.

Opis:
Taking the importance of time and risk into account has a significant impact on the value of investment projects. Investments in the energy sector are long-term projects and, as such, are burdened with uncertainty associated with the long-term freezing of capital and obtaining the expected return. In the power industry, this uncertainty is increased by factors specific to the sector, including in particular changes in the political and legal environment and the rapid technological development. In the case of discounted cash flow analysis (DCF), commonly used for assessing the economic efficiency of investments, the only parameter expressing investor uncertainty regarding investment opportunities is the discount rate, which increases with the increasing risk of the project. It determines the value of the current project, thus becoming an important criterion affecting investors’ decisions. For this reason, it is of great importance for the assessment of investment effectiveness. This rate, usually in the form of the weighted average cost of capital (WACC), generally includes two elements: the cost of equity capital and borrowed capital. Due to the fluctuant relationship between these two parameters in project financing, performing a WACC analysis in order to compare the risks associated with the different technologies is not completely justified. A good solution to the problem is to use the cost of equity. This article focuses on the analysis of this cost as a measure of risk related to energy investments in the United States, Europe and worldwide.

Opis:
Application of enhance oil recovery methods (EOR) as carbon dioxide injection (CO2-EOR) can increase technological or economical production indicators. For the evaluation of process effectiveness, full scale simulation model is used. Numerical models require large number of high quality geological and production data. However, the necessary data may be uncertain therefore microscale laboratory experiment and modeling can provide a knowledge to understand the fluid flow phenomena. In this paper the authors propose an integrated decision model coupling laboratory measurements of displacement with the numerical simulation of flow. First step consists of routine rock properties determination, after that core sample geometry, porosity and permeability were reconstructed in numerical reservoir simulator. Simple core model was combined with relative permeability measurements for oil - water and oil - carbon dioxide as well as fluid properties. Calibrated to laboratory measurements simulation model was used to analyze the process of CO2-EOR and evaluation of its effectiveness depending on technological parameters.

Opis:
Relative permeabilities relationships as a function of fluids saturation are one of the most important parameters for describing multiphase flow processes in reservoir rocks. When direct laboratory tests are not available for investigating oil-water multi-phase flow in rocks, then indirect prediction techniques using relative permeability functions are widely used, e.g. from capillary pressure test. In this study the measurement of capillary pressure was performed on rocks plugs with different characteristics at reservoir conditions using porous plate method. During measurement semi-permeable membrane was used with 15 bar threshold pressure, what allowed to register formation water saturation, at changing differential pressures steps. Desaturation at each pressure stage was continued until no more produced liquid was observed. Water saturation point at maximum capillary pressure applied is assumed to be final irreducible water saturation. Application of porous plate method provides sufficient stabilization time, allowing to achieve uniform saturation distribution. In this research, Brook-Corey model was used to predict relative permeability from experimental measured capillary pressure data for oil-water phase flow in porous media. As a result, it is possible to obtain more accurate capillary pressure outcomes, and relative permeability curves for the two-phase system, than other methods used in practice. Performing capillary pressure measurements at reservoir conditions, allows to restore the processes occurring in the reservoir.

Crude oil and natural gas were in the twentieth century and are still the most important strategic resources, which determine many aspects of politics and the world economy. The price level and the availability of oil and gas has a huge impact on the economic situation of all countries of the world. The developments in the oil market were the cause of many wars. The use of oil on an industrial scale it was observed at the end of the nineteenth century and once was considered the most effective source of energy for universal use. Since then, a steady increase of its share in the energy balances of the World. Growing automotive industry in the early twentieth century was also an important factor in increasing the use of oil, which is then processed in many emerging refineries. All this led to the development of the oil industry, which has become an alternative to coal as the main fuel so far. However, a major breakthrough in the use of oil occurred only after the Second World War, when began to rapidly develop such industries as chemical-based oil or plastics industry. This article presents information on traditional and prospective areas where oil deposits in the world and its resources as well as international trade, price formation in the market and prospects of development of the oil market in the world.

Although beneficial properties of mineral waters are acknowledged by law in many countries, the use of water for medicinal purposes is not universally accepted. Notably numerous waters (especially mineral and curative ones) have high concentrations of mineral and trace elements. These mineral waters are common on the market and their availability is not regulated by law. Due to the hazard of overdosing, quantification of trace elements and minerals seems to be necessary. The World Health Organization, European Standards and Polish Standards recommend different methods for elemental determination, i.e. spectrometry, photometry for zinc determination, colorimetry or spectrometry for copper, and ionic chromatography for calcium, chloride and fluoride. In this paper, alternative, electrochemical methods have been applied to determine zinc, copper, calcium, chloride and fluoride in most popular natural and curative waters from southern Poland. The determined elemental content varied between 3.85-33.54 μg L-1 for zinc, 85-15.33 μg L-1 for copper, 2.8-2433.63 mg L-1 for chloride, 0.4-1.66 mg L-1 for fluoride and 11.05-478.48 mg L-1 for calcium. The voltammetric method was tested according to the validation procedures, taking into account the following parametes: linearity range, limit of detection and limit of quantification and precision. The results show that the applied electroanalytical methods are suitable for determination of the selected elements in waters of natural origin, ensuring low instrumental and analysis costs while providing results comparable with ones achieved with recommended methods.

Period of 2000–2015 in exploration and production of hydrocarbons was not the most successful. The last major discovery of new reservoirs took place in the second half of 20th century and first half of 21st century, when the reservoirs of Kościan, Brońsko, BMB and LMG were discovered. Unfortunatelly, following years did not develop these significant discoveries. We can wonder if it was connected with the lack of exploration strategy, problems with financing or less availibility of discovering new reservoirs. The article presents the state of research both conventional unconventional hydrocarbon deposits and their directions of future research in Poland.

Anticancer therapy in elderly patients poses a great challenge for doctors since not all available therapeutic modalities can improve the wellbeing, alleviate symptoms or improve prognosis in this patient population. The paper presents a case of a 75-year-old woman diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer who, despite advanced age, received intensive anticancer therapy, i.e. surgical treatment (modified posterior exenteration with the resection of pelvic peritoneum and tumor invasion in the diaphragmatic peritoneum along with its fragment, subtotal colectomy, resection of the omentum, spleen and gastric fragment along with the gastro-transverse ligament and an end ileostomy) as well as adjuvant chemotherapy. Severe complications occurring during treatment were not directly related to the therapy, but resulted from the lack of proper patient care in a home setting.
W niniejszej pracy zaprezentowano przypadek 75-letniej chorej z rozpoznaniem zaawansowanego raka jajnika, u której pomimo podeszłego wieku zastosowano intensywne leczenie onkologiczne: zabieg operacyjny (zmodyfikowane wytrzewienie tylne z usunięciem otrzewnej miednicy i nacieków na otrzewną przepony wraz z jej fragmentem, subtotalną kolektomią, resekcją sieci, śledziony, fragmentu żołądka wraz z więzadłem żołądkowo-poprzeczniczym i stomią końcową w obrębie jelita krętego) oraz chemioterapię uzupełniającą. Ciężkie powikłania, które wystąpiły w trakcie terapii, nie były bezpośrednio związane z leczeniem, lecz wynikały z braku należytej opieki nad chorą podczas jej pobytu w domu.

The type of reservoir rock wettability is one of the most important factors affecting flow of formation fluids in rock pores. It impacts on the characteristics of capillary pressure curves and residual oil saturation, what result in final recovery factor. There are generally, four differ states of wettability for hydrocarbon fields. These are: water wet, oil wet, mixed and fractional. For determination of wettability both quantitative and qualitative methods are implemented. In presented work, the results of wettability laboratory measurement for Ciężkowice sandstone by Amott–Harvey has been shown. Obtained outcomes underline the influence of wettability phenomena on the recovery factor for Carpathian hydrocarbon fields, where Ciężkowice sandstone is the oil bearing formation. The proper understanding of the wettability of reservoir is essential for determining the most efficient way of oil production.

The CO2 injection into geological formations such as saline aquifers can be effective method of sequestration enabling efficient immobilization of gas by surface and capillary forces. The main objective of presented method of optimization was to determine optimal well position and injection rates that maximize residual trapping. This would mitigate the risk of the CO2 leakage outside of storage zone. A genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization have been developed and coupled with reservoir simulator to optimally examine various placement and injection control strategies for vertical as well as horizontal well. Optimization was carried out in 3D heterogeneous real field model with water-CO2 -formation rock relationship. Numerical examples confirm that developed algorithm can find a promising optimal solution effectively within a partial number of simulation runs.
