The article is devoted to reflection on the role of the Aryan discourse in the research of Slavophiles of the 19th century. Traditional studies on the ethnogenesis of the Slavs conducted by historians on the basis of ancient “scraps” and incomplete sources did not give the answer that would satisfy the political ambitions of the Poles. The inclusion of ethnographic and linguistic methods into the Slavic studies helped create the narrative in which the journey, made by the early Slavs from the Land of Aryans, became a full history of the people’s origin. The conviction about the Indo-Iranian origin of the Slavs shaped the mythical thinking and attempts to create a story legitimizing the right to self-determination and the historical significance of this group. The belief in ancient Aryan heritage considerably changed political orientation and the pursuit of a new identity – free of inferiority complex with respect to the West and ready to dictate its own conditions. Discussing the issues related to race and racial differences between particular peoples, including the ones belonging to the Slavic family, showed the authors’ political views and the future of the nation they envisaged. It also deepened the split within the Slavic studies. The sources available and studied by the Slavic history researchers did not provide clear answers to the question whether the Slavs are direct descendants of the Aryans, therefore the research and texts that are examined in the article have creational and commentary nature and serve the function of creating narratives shaping the community. The aim of this approach will be to reflect on how scientific discourse creates the foundations for identity myths.

The article explores and offers a diplomatic edition of A Very Useful Confession for Unction for Every Christian, for the Black and White Clergy. This is an autograph by Vladislav the Grammarian placed in the Trebnik of Monk David (1480s), manuscript 1/42 in the collection of the Rila Monastery. The analysis is based on the working hypothesis that after the conquest of Constantinople by the Ottoman Turks in 1453, the Ottoman invasion of the Balkans was perceived as a God’s punishment for the sins of the Orthodox Christians. This idea became strongly present in a number of texts. Penitential prayer patterns multiply in the literature. The Greek prototype of the text under study has not been identified yet, but features a close relation to the prayers with the so-called accumulation of sins. It is, in essence, a confession which is performed in connection with the sacrament of the eleosvet (anointing of the sick) before receiving communion and the anointing with holy oil. The textual unit was purposefully introduced into Monk David’s Trebnik and reflected topical textual additions to the basic composition of the Slavonic Trebnik.

Sexuality is most natural and healthy when it is part of an emotionally genuine relationship, not even as its central part but rather as an upgrade of the intimacy of two people who are mutually loyal, committed, loving and respectful. However, if an individual was sexually abused in childhood, they may have suffered the severest consequences of sexual abuse trauma in the area of sexuality, and their experience of sexuality will be completely different from those who were not sexually abused. The article first describes what children learn about sex if they have been sexually abused, as this experience is very much related to the most common behaviours and experiences in adult sexuality. Then we present a theoretical overview of research on sexuality in adults who suffered childhood sexual abuse. The theory will be supplemented and supported by the statements of individuals who have been attending a therapeutic group for the sexually abused in childhood for two years. The statements quoted in the article refer to the period prior to the therapeutic process. Clinical experience shows that, until the victim has resolved the trauma of sexual abuse, the dynamics between the offender and the victim during childhood abuse is most often very similar to the dynamics of the abused with their partner, even in their sexual life.

The aim of this article is to point to the main processes that contributed to the linguistic evolution of the South-Eastern Slavic (i.e. Macedonian and Bulgarian language dialects as well as some of the dialects of the Southern Serbia) veering off the way in which the other, more conservative, of the Slavic dialectical complexes developed. In the case of the South-Eastern Slavic, the development has been to a considerable extent driven by the so called contact changes, i.e. by the interference between languages of different typological compositions in a multilingual administrative structures that impose on the individuals not fluent in their speakers’ language the need to communicate. In consequence, this type of development uncovers the right communicative hierarchy of the transferred information and leads to regularization (grammaticalization) of the exponents of the information that is the most crucial for the successful completion of a communication act. In a verbal system, the information is connected first and foremost with the semantic domain of assessing the truth-value of the discussed facts; in a nominal system, it is the information that enables the correct identification of the discussed events and their protagonists that counts the most. These issues are presented in the article from the perspective of the evolution mechanisms characteristic of the Macedonian language area, showing how the abovementioned semantic impulses transform the grammatical (morphological and syntactical) inheritance of Proto-Slavic. What draws our attention in this relation is the analogy between the direction and the final products of the evolution of the so called Balkan sprachbund and the processes that in the late Middle Ages brought about similar results in the development of the Romance languages of the Western Europe or of English.

The article is dedicated to the reception of Mykhailo Hrushevsky’s academic achievements in German science and journalism during the first third of the 20th century, in the years of World War I and the interwar period. The authors emphasize that German scientists were generally honest about the achievements and activity of the Ukrainian historian. Despite their scepticism towards M. Hrushevsky’s Anti-Normanism ideology, they followed closely the emergence of his major scientific works. In the reception of the Ukrainian historian’s work, the academic motivation definitely dominated over the political one, although the latter indirectly appeared in many statements devoted to him. The authors prove the vivid presence of Hrushevsky’s thought in the German Slavic discourse of the period.
Artykuł poświęcony jest recepcji twórczości Mychajły Hruszewskiego w niemieckiej nauce i publicystyce w pierwszym trzydziestoleciu XX w., w latach I wojny światowej i w okresie międzywojennym. Autorzy podkreślają, że niemieccy komentatorzy na ogół rzetelnie odnosili się do dorobku i działalności ukraińskiego historyka. Pomimo sceptycznego nastawienia M. Hruszewskiego do antynormanizmu, uważnie śledzili pojawianie się jego głównych prac naukowych. W recepcji twórczości ukraińskiego historyka motywacja akademicka zdecydowanie dominowała nad polityczną, chociaż ta ostatnia pośrednio pojawiała się w wielu poświęconych mu wypowiedziach. Autorzy udowodnili żywą obecność myśli Hruszewskiego w niemieckim dyskursie slawistycznym omawianego okresu.

Despite the previous overview studies on Polish and East German archaeology and historiography after 1945, further analyses of the relationship between science and politics as well as of the inner-disciplinary processes and discourses in the “Cold War” period are still needed. This applies in particular to the research field of “Slavic archaeology”, the archaeological and historiographical research on the “Slavs” in prehistorical and early medieval times.With regard to recent demands for an extended and more dynamic understanding of science and new methodological approaches in the history of science (and of archaeology as well), this paper focuses on two leading figures of “Slavic archaeology”, Witold Hensel (PPR) and Joachim Herrmann (GDR), as case studies to provide more insights into this discipline. Analysing the course of Hensel’s and Herrmann’s careers and of their way to the “Slavs” as one of their main research interests, their administrative functions as institutional directors and the central narratives of their publications on the early “Slavs”, provides the opportunity to profoundly dissect the interrelations between scholarly work, politics, and ideology in this field of research.The comparative approach also makes it possible to identify parallel tendencies in Eastern German and Polish “Slavic archaeology” as well as specific national conditions and developments.On the example of Hensel and Herrmann, it becomes clear that the implemented biographical-comparative perspective is fruitful and can be used for further research in the history of science.
Pomimo dotychczasowych badań przeglądowych dotyczących archeologii i historiografii Polski i NRD po 1945 r., nadal potrzebne są dalsze analizy związków między nauką a polityką, a także wewnętrznych procesów dyscyplinarnych i dyskursów badań „archeologii słowiańskiej”, badań archeologicznych i historiograficznych „Słowian” w czasach prehistorycznych i wczesnego średniowiecza.W związku z ostatnimi wymaganiami szerszego i bardziej dynamicznego rozumienia nauki oraz stawania nowych podejść metodologicznych w historii nauki (a także archeologii), niniejszy artykuł koncentruje się na dwóch wiodących postaciach „archeologii słowiańskiej”, Witoldzie Henselu (PPR) i Joachimie Herrmannie (NRD), jako studiach przypadków, aby zapewnić większy wgląd w tę dyscyplinę. Analiza przebiegu kariery Hensela i Herrmanna oraz ich dróg wiodących do „Słowian” jako jednego z głównych zainteresowań badawczych, ich funkcji administracyjnych jako dyrektorów instytucjonalnych oraz głównych narracji ich publikacji naukowych o wczesnych „Słowianach”, umożliwia dogłębnie przeanalizować zależności między pracą naukową, polityką i ideologią w tej dziedzinie badań.Podejście porównawcze pozwala również na identyfikację równoległych tendencji we wschodnioniemieckiej i polskiej „archeologii słowiańskiej”, a także na specyficzne społeczne uwarunkowania i rozwój sytuacji w tych krajach.Na przykładzie Hensela i Herrmanna staje się jasne, że wdrożona perspektywa biograficzno-porównawcza jest owocna i może być wykorzystana do dalszych badań w historii nauki.

The paper discusses a little known manuscript dictionary dating from the beginning of the 18th c. that is stored in the manuscript division of the Jagiellonian Library (Ms.Slav. Qu. 28 Lexicon slavo-rutenicum). In actual fact we are dealing with a trilingual (East) Slavic-Latin-German dictionary, which is unfinished (barely reaching the end of letter “o”), and consists of 746 pages in quarto format. The author is thought to be French polyglot and orientalist, Mathurin Veyssière de La Croze. The primary objective of the paper is to discuss the typological-etymological and functional-stylistic typology of the East Slavic vocabulary included in the analysed lexicon. A preliminary overview of the Slavic lexis in the Slavic-Ruthenian Lexicon suggests that the dictionary of the past is worth publishing, so it would become available to a broader group studying the history of East Slavic languages.

Celem artykułu jest opis czasowników z niesłowiańską cząstką re- w historii języka polskiego, z uwzględnieniem tła słowiańskiego. Omówiono: genezę i chronologię zjawiska, proces wydzielania się prefiksu re- z serii zapożyczeń łacińskich, zależności genetyczno-morfologiczne pomiędzy prefiksem re- a rodzajami podstaw słowotwórczych, relacje motywacyjne zachodzące pomiędzy derywatami czasownikowymi z re- a wyrazami motywującymi, semantykę czasowników z re- oraz uwarunkowania stylistyczno-pragmatyczne tych czasowników. Przeprowadzone badania pozwoliły ustalić, że prefiks re- ma długą tradycję w polszczyźnie, ale jego łączliwość jest ograniczona do podstaw genetycznie obcych. Wskazano także na polisemiczność prefiksu re-, która może zależeć od semantyki podstaw, oraz na przynależność czasowników z re- do specjalistycznej leksyki naukowo- technicznej. Podobnymi właściwościami charakteryzują się derywaty werbalne na re- także w innych językach słowiańskich.
The article aims to describe verbs with non-Slavic prefix re- in the history of the Polish language, including the Slavic background. Discussed issues include: origins and chronology of the phenomenon, the process of evolution of the prefix re- from a series borrowings from Latin, genetic and morphological links between the prefix re- and the types root words, motivational relationships, semantics, as well as the stylistic and pragmatic characteristics of verbs prefixed by re-. It has been established through research that the prefix re- has a long tradition in the Polish language, but its connectivity is limited to genetically foreign roots. Also indicated has been the polysemy of the prefix and the fact that the re- verbs belong in a specialised scholarly and technical vocabulary. Similar properties characterise verbal derivatives prefixed with re- also in other Slavic languages.

Mykhailo Nayenko is a well-known professor, who runs literary researches from the early 1980th for today. The book presented in the review, shows how academic landscape of Ukraine and Eastern Europe was changing after the collapse of Soviet Union. We can also notice some changes in author’s consciousness too as he tried to find his own place in the world without strict borders, in the conditions of free thoughts and possibility of speaking without censorship.

Slavisms in the German language
Opis:
The objective of this article to familiarize the reader with the rich history of research of Slavic influences on the general German language, on its regional varieties and dialects. They go back to the middle of the XIX century. They are poorly known, even by linguists. A particular attention was paid to the earliest research, the first, yet controversial, statements on Slavic influences on the German language. Finally, the disputes on the recognition of certain words as borrowings from the Slavic languages have not so far been resolved. We may see a particular increase in the said researches after the end of the Second World War. Numerous German regional vocabularies from the territories neighboring the Slavic languages and the German Language Atlas provided a great deal of materials. Slavic and German linguists, mainly German linguists, have amassed a huge number of dialect-related and historic materials concerning borrowings from the Slavic languages in the German language, from which only a minor part concerns the German literary language (about 180) or colloquial German language, however the prevailing majority (about 4 000) concerns different German dialects, in particular, the old German dialects, which are no longer existing. These are mainly lexical borrowings, however the morphological influence is also at issue here, e.g. the Slavic suffixes being added to the German root words.

Artykuł jest studium przypadku poświęconym sposobowi uobecniania wątków słowiańskich we współczesnej polskiej twórczości fantasy. Przywołane tu teksty są zarazem reprezentatywne dla dwu dominujących w rodzimej fantastyce słowiańskiej strategii artystycznych:• nastawienia na eksponowanie historycznego wymiaru fabuły;• uwypuklenia kreacyjnego aspektu opisywanych przygód.Konfrontacja komiksów Christy i powieści Terakowskiej uświadamia, do jakiego stopnia funkcjonujące w imaginarium communis wyobrażenie słowiańskości sytuuje się między tym, co rekonstruowane dzięki ustaleniom historyków i archeologów, a tym, co zostaje kreowane na potrzeby opowieści mocą artystycznej wyobraźni. Linia podziału przebiega przy tym nie tyle między poszczególnymi tekstami kultury, co w poprzek nich. Obie artystyczne wizje Słowiańszczyzny łączy poszukiwanie wspólnoty duchowej (dotyczy to zwłaszcza Samotności Bogów) w realiach odrzucenia jej dotychczasowej, utrwalonej tradycją, zinstytucjonalizowanej formuły.
The article is a case study devoted to the way Slavic themes are present in contemporary Polish fantasy work. The texts quoted here are also representatives of the two artistic strategies dominant in the native Slavic fantasy: focus on exposing the historical dimension of the plot; emphasizing the creative aspect of the described adventures. The confrontation of Christa’s comics and Terakowska’s novel make us aware of the extent to which the image of Slavicness functioning in the imaginarium communis is situated between what is reconstructed thanks to the findings of historians and archaeologists, and what is created for the needs of the story by the power of artistic imagination. The dividing line runs not so much between individual cultural texts as across them. Both artistic visions of the Slavic region are united by the search for spiritual community (this applies especially to the Loneliness of the Gods) in the reality of rejecting its hitherto, established by tradition, institutionalized formula
