    Terrorism in a contemporary world plays a vital role. It becomes more and more dangerous due to technical development and access to information on terrorist means and methods allows better communication between terrorist groups. Contemporary political terrorism characterizes variety and difficulty far more developed now then centuries ago. Terrorists are able to interfere into politics of different countries, using terrorism actions to achieve particular goals. The increase of conflicts and tensions on ethics, religion, ideology or sociology made it possible for terrorism to appear in new forms and become a solution for current global issues.

    Terrorism is one of the greatest threats to contemporary civilization. The incidents that take the form of terrorist attacks occur in the territories of many countries, and they diff er not only in motives and methods, but also in realization measures. These incidents continue to grow in numbers and escalate. In fact, terrorism paralyses huge masses of people and causes harm to the proper functioning of democratic countries, especially their economic, social and political institutions. Rich countries are as much affected by it as those plunged in economic crises. Because of globalization, terrorists may freely travel around the world unnoticed by the most advanced identification systems.

    The separation of theory and practice of the European integration created a very dangerous situation for the European Union. The article presents this crisis from the points of view of philosophy, political science and journalism. The“European poison of thought” expressed by a lack of trust of citizens towards the EU institutions perceived as inadequate in addressing the most fundamental problems of the EU citizens, as well as scepticism towards the enlargement of the Union, aversion to financial solidarity with weaker Member States, and disappointment with legal overregulation and money wasting, are just a few out of a long list of problems that make people lose their trust in the European integration. The author also considers the greatest weaknesses of the European Union: preferring interests of those who are present and well-organised on the political arena and the fact that the real majority of EU citizens stays outside the formal democratic structures thus becoming a part of the process of exclusion and fragmentation. The state of affairs in the EU, following according to Karl Jaspers, is called a limit situation, where it possible either to withdraw or rise and exceed restrictions. The author considers hope and radicalism as two forces that power the European political activists; in order to unite them, a new faith, values and hope based on the traditional foundations are needed. This new way of thinking about the EU, the joined-up thinking, is possibly a response to the demand for a radical revival in the EU.

    The objective of this study is to conduct a stylistic analysis of the synopses publicized in the end-of-the-year ranking list of 2017 scientific “breakthroughs” from Science Magazine. The article provides a review of literature on science popularization (also known as science accommodation) and presents the typology of news values and rationalization cues that are used by editors to make science-related coverage both newsworthy and credible at the same time. The article lists the possible ways in which scientific findings can be stylistically constructed as “breakthroughs”. The analysis consists in quantifying and illustrating the typical stylistic maneuvers for framing selected science-related issues as “breakthroughs.” The article concludes with the implications of such constructions for the public understanding of science.

    W artykule przedstawiam jeden rodzaj przemocy – przemoc w rodzinie i jej konsekwencje. Proponuję spojrzenie na ten problem z dwóch różnych, wzajemnie uzupełniających się perspektyw. Z perspektywy teorii nauk społecznych, oraz z perspektywy towarzyszącego im dyskursu publicznego. Opisuję także doświadczenia ofiar przemocy. Zastosowane metody analizy to krytyczna analiza tekstów naukowych, krytyczna analiza publicystyki, wywiad skoncentrowany na problemie oraz krytyczna analiza wypowiedzi dorosłych, którzy na podstawie retrospekcji udostępnili swoje doświadczenia związane z przemocą w rodzinie. Kontekstem zaprezentowanych analiz jest krytycznie zrekonstruowany dyskurs dotyczący przeobrażeń współczesnej rodziny.
    In this article I present one type of violence – domestic violence and its consequences. I offer to look at this problem from two different, complementary perspectives. From the perspective of social science theories, and from the perspective of the accompanying public discourse. I also describe the experiences of victims of violence. The methods of analysis adopted include critical analysis of scientific texts, critical analysis of journalism, problem-focused research, and critical analysis of the statements of adults who shared their experiences related to domestic violence based on retrospection. The context of the presented analyses is a critically reconstructed discourse on the transformation of the contemporary family.

    Nauki o mediach funkcjonują jako autonomiczna dyscyplina naukowa od 2013 r. Ich autonomia oznacza nazwanie i opisanie przedmiotu badań oraz metodologii w stopniu umożliwiającym rozróżnienie tradycji badań fenomenologicznych (literaturoznawstwa i psychologii) oraz komunikologicznych (prasoznawstwo i socjologia). W tym kontekście wydaje się uprawnione zastosowanie terminu „multigenetyczność”. W artykule wskazano praktyczny zakres multigenetyczności na przykładzie kształcenia dziennikarskiego w uczelniach Lublina. Omówiono działanie Polskiego Towarzystwa Komunikacji Społecznej przez pryzmat aktywności sekcji badawczych, która decyduje o nowym paradygmacie dziennikarstwa. Przedstawiono także subdyscypliny i metodologię nauk o mediach. W świetle najnowszej refleksji teoriopoznawczej do subdyscyplin zalicza się m.in. historię mediów i medioznawstwa, język mediów, aksjologię, technologię, PR i marketing. Metody zaś cechuje interdyscyplinarność. W konkluzji stwierdzić można, że dyscypliny należące do tzw. otoczenia (np. historia, socjologia, politologia, ekonomia, prawo, kulturoznawstwo) obecne były u podstaw pierwszych studiów nad istotą dyscypliny nauki o mediach (w Polsce od połowy lat pięćdziesiątych XX wieku).
    Media studies function as an autonomous scientific discipline since 2011. Their autonomy implies naming and describing the subject of research as well as methodology to the extent allowing to make distinction of phenomenological research (literary studies and psychology) and communication research (press studies and sociology). In this context it is reasoned to employ the term “multigenomic”. The article indicates a practical range of a multigenomic approach, exemplified by the journalism education in universities of Lublin. Activities of research sections of Polish Communication Association are analyzed as indicating a new paradigm of journalism. The paper also presents subdisciplines and methodology in media studies subdisciplines consist of: history of media and media studies, media language, axiology, technology, PR and marketing. Methods are characterized by interdisciplinary. Concluding, the author states that disciplines of the so-called environment of media studies (e.g. history, sociology, political science, economics, law, cultural studies) have been a foundation of early studies on the key issues of media studies as a discipline (in Poland since 50. of the 50th century).

    The article is devoted to the Polish reception of science-fiction cinema; the statements of film critics from 1956–1965 were analysed. During this period, science fiction, previously absent from the screens of Polish cinemas for ideological and censorship reasons, returned to the repertoire and became the subject of press discussions and reviews. The analysis of articles devoted to this genre and published at the time allows reconstruction of the cultural context in which science-fiction productions operated. The article consists of three main parts. In the first of these, the author describes which science fiction films were present in Polish cinemas at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s. In the second part, he analyses press statements devoted to the history and aesthetics of the genre. The subject under consideration in the third part is the reception of two productions, which at the time enjoyed the greatest interest from contemporary critics: Godzilla (Gojira, 1954, dir. Ishirō Honda) and The Silent Star (Der schweigende Stern 1960, dir. Kurt Maetzig).

    Celem artykułu jest dokonanie studium przypadku na przykładzie własnych badań z zakresu komunikacji medialnej i naukowej w czasie pandemii koronawirusa oraz omówienie efektów, jakie dzięki nim osiągnięto. Komunikacja w czasie pandemii i związanego z nią niepokoju powinna opierać się nie na emocjach, lecz na faktach i danych naukowych. Jednocześnie musi być realizowana w sposób atrakcyjny i zrozumiały dla odbiorcy. Wieloletnie doświadczenie dziennikarsko-naukowe skłoniło autorkę do omówienia własnych badań oraz ich efektów w kontekście pandemii. Autorka ustaliła potrzeby odbiorców oraz luki w ich wiedzy, dotyczącej nowego koronawirusa i jego wpływu na codzienne funkcjonowanie. Wdrożone przez autorkę działania doprowadziły do następującej konkluzji: przystępne, ale i rzetelne zaprezentowanie danych naukowych w przedstawionych artykułach cieszy się dużym zainteresowaniem wśród odbiorców i przyczynia się do lepszego rozumienia przez nich zjawisk, w których się nie specjalizują.
    This article provides a case study of media and scientific communication during the coronavirus pandemic and discusses the impact of this communication. Communication during a pandemic should be based on facts and evidence, not emotions. At the same time, it must be implemented in a way that is attractive and understandable for the recipients. A few years of journalistic and scientific experience prompted the author to discuss her own research and its effects in the context of the pandemic. The author identified the recipients' needs and gaps in their knowledge about the new coronavirus and its impact on everyday functioning. The article concludes that accessible and reliable presentation of scientific data is of great interest to recipients and contributes to a better understanding of phenomena in which they do not specialize.

    This study focuses on the presentation and interpretation of scientific information and data by Slovak creators on the social platform Instagram. Media content presented on social media often becomes problematic, as popular science posts are more in an entertaining than scientific form. It happens that popular science content is presented inaccurately, without deeper context. In addition, scientific misinformation and misleading information appears, which can pose a danger to audience members who trust such information. Science journalism has found its place not only in traditional media, but also on social media platforms, where problematic information on scientific topics goes viral and achieves a high level of user interaction. In an unregulated or under-regulated social networking environment, it is also more difficult for users to discern the credibility and relevance of the information presented, especially when referring to existing scientific studies or authorities. However, data from these sources may be taken out of context, interpreted in a misleading way or accompanied by completely fabricated or distorted conclusions. Such false scientific content undermines confidence in objective science journalism and discredits the work of science journalists. Several digital tools are now available that can help readers distinguish real scientific information from false information. Critical thinking, media literacy and scientific literacy are key skills that can be used to detect manipulative techniques and navigate the issue of false media content. In this paper, we therefore clarify the importance of media, scientific and information literacy skills to help identify misinformation in media content related to science and research.

The aim of the publication is to try to answer the question what changes regarding the development of the space industry can currently be observed in the Polish media discourse of popular science journalism. The author used the method of a structured, in-depth interview.
