Opis:: The termination of mining activities often results in post-mining problems and risks. One of these issues is the flooding of mines. Long-term mining in the Ostrava and Petrvald sub-basins in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin finished in 1994. Tens of coal seams were mined here, and the depth of mining reached more than 1000 m below the surface. Flooding of the Ostrava sub-basin started in 1994. The Ostrava and Petrvald sub-basins were flooded from one half only to prevent water from flooding into the Karvina sub-basin, where mining continued. The continual pumping of water has been carried out ever since. Only low-energy seismic events (up to 103 J) were recorded during the periods of flooding and water pumping. Only one high-energy seismic event was recorded here (108 J, magnitude of 3.5, 12 December 2017). This study presents the natural and mining conditions regarding the process of mine flooding; and the induced seismicity registered during the flooding of mines and the preservation of water at the stated level. Analysis of the flooding of mines in connection to the registered seismicity is presented. Probable reasons for the low seismic activity during the flooding of mines are also discussed.

Opis:: The article entitled Perihepatic lymphadenopathy in children with chronic viral hepatitis(1) is an original paper of high clinical relevance – viral hepatitis B and C are the main causes of chronic hepatitis and liver cirrhosis in children. Based on ultrasound findings, the authors assessed the presence of the perihepatic lymph nodes and their morphology in 49 children with chronic viral hepatitis B and C (38 and 11 children, respectively). The authors hoped that this investigation would help establish a new, non-invasive marker enabling screening examinations to be conducted in children with chronic viral hepatitis. In adults, a correlation was found between the activity of hepatitis and the morphology of the lymph nodes in a US examination, but such a correlation has, until now, not been reported in children(2–4). The results of the study have a clinically significant aspect – the loops of the hepatoduodenal ligament are relatively readily available in a transabdominal examination, and ultrasonography is an inexpensive and safe method to be conducted in children.
Artykuł Perihepatic lymphadenopathy in children with chronic viral hepatitis(1) jest pracą oryginalną o dużym znaczeniu klinicznym – wirusowe zapalenie wątroby typu B i C jest główną przyczyną przewlekłego zapalenia wątroby i marskości wątroby u dzieci. Autorzy na podstawie wyników badania USG oceniali obecność węzłów chłonnych okołowątrobowych i ich morfologię u 49 dzieci z przewlekłym wirusowym zapaleniem wątroby typu B oraz C (odpowiednio 38 i 11 dzieci). Podejmując ten temat, autorzy mieli nadzieję na ustanowienie nowego, nieinwazyjnego markera umożliwiającego badania przesiewowe u dzieci z przewlekłym WZW. O ile u osób dorosłych stwierdzono korelację pomiędzy aktywnością procesu zapalnego wątroby a morfologią badanych węzłów chłonnych w USG, to u dzieci ten związek dotychczas nie został opisany(2–4). Wyniki pracy mają ważny aspekt kliniczny – węzły więzadła wątrobowo-dwunastniczego są stosunkowo łatwo dostępne w badaniu przezbrzusznym, a USG jest metodą w pełni bezpieczną dla dzieci oraz tanią.

Opis:: This article concerns the Warsaw period in the life and work of Helena Modrzejewska. The years 1869-1876 are the least researched and described period in the entire career of this actress. The article refers to Zbigniew Raszewski’s essay ‘Modrzejewska-warszawianka’ (‘Modrzejewska the Varsavian’), debating the significance of the experience of the Krakow theatre in Modrzejewska’s work. In the light of a factual analysis, he presents the actress as a Drama Artist of Warsaw theatres, posing questions about the evaluation of the experience of working on the Warsaw stage in the context of her career. The methodological framework of the article is an attempt to see the principles of realistic idealism, i.e. the model style of the art of acting in the nineteenth century, not only in the actress’s stage performance, but also in social life and the iconographic material based on Jan Mieczkowski’s photographs.
