Opis:
In the first part of this paper we prove without using the transfer or characters the equivalence of some conditions, each of which would imply p-nilpotence of a finite group G. The implication of p-nilpotence also can be deduced without the transfer or characters if the group is p-constrained. For p-constrained groups we also prove an equivalent condition so that $O^{q'}(G)P$ should be p-nilpotent. We show an example that this result is not true for some non-p-constrained groups.
In the second part of the paper we prove a generalization of a theorem of Itô with the help of the knowledge of the irreducible characters of the minimal non-nilpotent groups.

Opis:
The ability to adhere to enterocytes is one of the key features of probiotics. This process involves a number of factors, among which the important role of pili was demonstrated. Some Lactobacillus species are confirmed to have heterotrimeric spaCBA type pili. The aim of this study was to identify spaCBA pili in strains of selected Lactobacillus spp. and assess the impact of their presence and sequence polymorphism on the adhesion of these strains to enterocytes. Total 20 bacterial strains of L. rhamnosus, L. casei and L. paracasei were tested. The presence of pilus specific proteins coding genes spaA, spaB and spaC was verified by PCR in order to identify the presence of sequence polymorphism in the genes possibly affecting the structure of the spaCBA pilus. To correlate spaCBA polymorphism to adhesion capability the adhesion assay was carried out using Caco-2 cell line. The effectiveness of the adhesion was measured using a scintillation counter. The Lactobacillus strains analyzed showed the adhesion to Caco-2 enterocytes capability from 0.6% to 19.6%. The presence of spaCBA pili is a factor increasing the adhesion efficiency of Lactobacillus spp. to Caco-2 enterocytes. Lack of these structures on the surface of bacterial cells results in the reduction in adhesion efficiency, indicating its important role in the adhesion process. But not in all cases the correlation between the presence of protein spaCBA structures and adhesion efficiency was observed, what may indicate the important role of other factors in adhesion of analyzed strains to Caco-2 cells.

Opis:
The purpose of this note is to prove various versions of the ergodic decomposition theorem for probability measures on standard Borel spaces which are quasi-invariant under a Borel action of a locally compact second countable group or a discrete nonsingular equivalence relation. In the process we obtain a simultaneous ergodic decomposition of all quasi-invariant probability measures with a prescribed Radon-Nikodym derivative, analogous to classical results about decomposition of invariant probability measures.

Opis:
The article presents the results of a research study on the situation of contemporary post-graduate students. Focus group interviews helped obtain post-graduate students’ opinions about the conditions of starting and continuing doctoral studies. The discussion focused on three main topics: motivation to start doctoral studies, the quality and conditions of doctoral studies evaluation, and the advantages and disadvantages of undertaking doctoral studies. Analysis of the respondents’ statements shows that the motivations for starting doctoral studies vary strongly. Common in the experience of the interlocutors is a lack of stability in life (including financialstability), insecurity of employment, overload, and stress. However, post-graduate students presented also positive aspects of doctoral studies, e.g.: social prestige or the possibility of development. The last part of the article describes issues related to problems and pathological phenomena (such as ‘punctasis’/‘points, credits collecting’), pointing to systemic and individual limitations affecting the situation of doctoral students in the Polish tertiary education system.
