We theoretically investigate dynamics of excitation in a hybrid nanostructure comprising a photosynthetic complex peridinin-chlorophyll-protein (PCP) coupled to a gold spherical nanoparticle. Our model includes the analytical description of radiative and non-radiative relaxation channels of the chlorophylls in PCP, as well as the change of energy transfer rate within the PCP due to the presence of metal scatterer. We show that by measuring the intensity of fluorescence from selectively excited chlorophyll molecules in the PCP complex, elementary geometric properties of the system can be deduced.

Opis:
We consider optimal control problems for gas flow in pipeline networks. The equations of motion are taken to be represented by a first-order system of hyperbolic semilinear equations derived from the fully nonlinear isothermal Euler gas equations. We formulate an optimal control problem on a network and introduce a tailored time discretization thereof. In order to further reduce the complexity, we consider an instantaneous control strategy. The main part of the paper is concerned with a nonoverlapping domain decomposition of the optimal control problem on the graph into local problems on smaller sub-graphs—ultimately on single edges. We prove convergence of the domain decomposition method on networks and study the wellposedness of the corresponding time-discrete optimal control problems. The point of the paper is that we establish virtual control problems on the decomposed subgraphs such that the corresponding optimality systems are in fact equal to the systems obtained via the domain decomposition of the entire optimality system.

Opis:
Przedmiotem prezentowanej pracy było określenie wpływu wybranych metabolitów (amoniaku, fenolu i krezolu), powstających w czasie procesu trawienia, na przeżywalność i proliferację ludzkich enterocytów in vitro. Do badań bezpośredniego oddziaływania wymienionych związków na komórki nabłonka jelitowego wykorzystano linię komórkową Caco-2, która w warunkach in vitro tworzy monowarstwę komórek funkcjonalnie i strukturalnie podobnych do ludzkich enterocytów. W celu oceny cytotoksycznego i genotoksycznego efektu działania wybranych związków na komórki Caco-2 posłużono się następującymi metodami badawczymi: oznaczenie stężenia komórek metodą hemocytometryczną, oznaczenie przeżywalności komórek poprzez barwienie błękitem Trypanu, określenie stopnia uszkodzeń DNA za pomocą testu kometkowego. Dowiedziono, że ekspozycja komórek Caco-2 na stosunkowo niskie stężenia wszystkich testowanych związków powodowała znaczący spadek ich przeżywalności i proliferacji. Stwierdzono, że antyproliferacyjne oddziaływanie metabolitów procesu trawienia było związane z indukcją uszkodzeń DNA w komórkach nabłonka jelitowego. (abstrakt oryginalny)
The subject of presented paper was to describe the effect of selected digestive metabolites (ammonia, phenol and cresol), arising while digestive process, on viability and proliferation of human enterocytes in vitro. The structural as well as functional similarities to intestinal human enterocytes has resulted in Caco- 2 cell line was used in our studies. Based on determination of cell viability, cell concentration and evaluation of the DNA damages level in the cells exposed to the tested compounds, the cytotoxic and genotoxic effects were investigated. Cell concentration was determined using Neubauer hemocytometer and cell viability was evaluated by trypan blue exclusion dye. For the DNA damage determination , the comet assay was used. It was proved that upon exposure of Caco-2 cells to relatively low concentrations of all tested metabolites, significant decrease in cell viability and proliferation was observed. According to the findings in this study, the growth inhibitory effect of digestive metabolites on the intestinal cells is due to DNA damages. (original abstract)

Jip en Janneke to klasyczny przykład literatury dziecięcej w Holandii. Artykuł zawiera wprowadzenie teoretyczne, w którym została zaprezentowany historia literatury dziecięcej w Holandii i fenomen pisarstwa Anny M.G. Schmidt. Następnie uwaga koncentruje się na tłumaczeniu elementów kulturowych. Część artykułu stanowi analiza tłumaczenia wybranych elementów kulturowych, tzw. realiów (w tym nazw własnych, jedzenia, świąt takich jak np. Sinterklaas i piosenek dla dzieci). Całość kończy się konkluzją.   Het artikel betreft de vertaling van het boek Jip en Janneke in het Pools. Jip en Janneke is een klassiek voorbeeld van kinderliteratuur in Nederland. Het artikel bevat een theoretische inleiding waarin de geschiedenis van de kinderliteratuur in Nederland en het fenomeen van het schrijverschap van Annie M.G. Schmidt wordt gepresenteerd. Vervolgens wordt de aandacht gericht op cultuurgebonden elementen in vertaling. Een onderdeel van het artikel is een analyse van de vertaling van geselecteerde cultuurelementen, d.w.z. realia (o.a. namen, eten, feesten zoals Sinterklaas en kinderliedjes). Het geheel wordt afgerond met een conclusie.

The article concerns the translation of the book Jip en Janneke into Polish. Jip en Janneke is a classic example of children’s literature in the Netherlands. The article contains a theoretical introduction where the history of children’s literature in the Netherlands and the phenomenon of writership by Anna M.G. Schmidt was presented. Then attention is focused on the cultural specific items in translation. The last part of the work is the analysis of the translation of selected cultural elements, i.e. realia (including names, food, special days such as Sinterklaas and children’s songs). At the end of the article there are conclusions.

We determined exchange $H_{ex}$ and rotatable $H_{rot}$ anisotropy fields of multilayers that comprise 10 nm Co₂FeSi (CFS) layers exchange coupled to 20 nm IrMn layers by using ferromagnetic resonance with a vector network analyzer (VNA-FMR). The multilayer structures consist of IrMn/bottom (b)-CFS/IrMn/middle (m)-CFS/IrMn/top (t)-CFS/IrMn layers so that each CFS layer is surrounded by a pair of IrMn layers. In the structures, the exchange bias field propagates in such a way that $H_{ex}^{t}$ > $H_{ex}^{m}$ > $H_{ex}^{b}$ for the top, middle, and bottom layer, respectively. FMR response measured along the exchange bias (EB) axis consist of only two absorptions related to the (b+m)- and (t)-CFS layers, respectively. Exchange and rotatable anisotropy determined independently from angular and dispersion measurements of the resonance fields are nearly the same. Rotatable anisotropy field scales with the exchange bias field in these complex structures.

Nowadays Didymosphenia geminata is one of the most frequently studied diatoms in the world, due to its massive development in most continents. In Poland, up to the 1990’s only a small number of specimens were recorded, from streams in the Tatra Mountains and the Dunajec River. D. geminata was found in 2007–2008 in the middle and upper sections of the Wisłok River, while in 2009 and 2011 it was also found in the Wisłoka, Ropa, Bielcza and San. The cells belonged to one morphotype “geminata” and were characterized by high variability of size. It develops in mesotrophic, well-oxygenated, upper parts of flowing waters with rapid currents. It was most abundant below reservoirs on the San, Wisłok and Wisłoka.
