This work introduces important properties of some new derivatives of nitrotetrazolyl-imidazole as high nitrogen energetic compounds, which are evaluated and discussed using some reliable models. The predicted properties are also compared with 1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetraazacyclooctane (HMX). It is shown that some of these compounds can be seen as interesting organic explosives with relatively high performance and low sensitivity, which could be used for important industrial applications. Since some of the new compounds have a relatively good oxygen balance, the calculated specific impulses confirm that these compounds can be considered as suitable oxidizers in solid propellants.

The introduction of anions and cations into energetic materials can significantly improve their physicochemical and energetic properties. The K, Zn, Ba, Cu and Pb salts of 1,1,2,2-tetranitraminoethane (TNAE) were synthesized using TNAE as the starting material, and were characterized by IR spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. All of the energetic salts exhibited relatively high thermal stabilities (decomposition temperatures ranging from 195.1 °C to 279.3 °C) and high densities (ranging from 2.1 g·cm–3 to 3.7 g·cm–3). It was demonstrated that the introduction of metal ions conveys better thermal stability than covalent TNAE itself. More importantly, the Zn, Ba and Cu salts exhibited good thermal stability, high density, low sensitivity, and therefore have the potential to be a new class of insensitive, highly energetic explosives for practical applications.

The knowledge of physiological reactions enabling a diver increasing the functional reserve in a life-threatening situation is not yet complete. It is suggested that the ability to adapt to prolonged stress experienced by divers maintaining an upright position on the water surface is associated with the diver’s individual characteristics and the type of the buoyancy control device. The purpose of this study was to perform a preliminary evaluation of physiological variables in divers wearing two different types of buoyancy control device and floating upright at the surface to determine the level of safety offered by each of them. The physiological variables were measured while participants wearing a classical dive vest and a wing dive vest. The oxygen uptake and heart rate measured after 30 minutes of experiment were significantly greater in participants using wing dive vest than classical dive vest. The results confirm the possibility of using physiological indicators to compare the fatigue and rescue function in divers depending on the buoyancy control device type.
Dotychczas nie w pełni poznane są reakcje fizjologiczne, które wpływają na zdolność utrzymania się w warunkach zanurzenia w wodzie nurków w sytuacji zagrożenia. Sugeruje się, że zdolności przystosowawcze do długotrwałego obciążenia organizmu podczas utrzymywania się w pozycji pionowej na powierzchni mogą wynikać z indywidualnych predyspozycji nurka i stosowanych urządzeń ratunkowo-wypornościowych. Celem badań była ocena obciążenia fizjologicznego nurka w sprzęcie lekkim podczas utrzymywania się w pozycji pionowej na powierzchni w zależności od wykorzystywanego urządzenia ratunkowo - wypornościowego. W badanej grupie nurków zmierzono wskaźniki fizjologiczne podczas zanurzenia w wodzie w pozycji pionowej z utrzymaniem twarzy na powierzchni w dwóch różnych kamizelkach ratunkowo - wypornościowych tj.: klasycznej i typu skrzydło. Większe zapotrzebowania na tlen, przyspieszenie rytmu pracy i większe ryzyko obniżenia dostępności tlenu po trzydziestu minutach utrzymywania się na powierzchni wody stwierdzono w kamizelce typu skrzydło w porównaniu do kamizelki klasycznej. Wyniki badań niniejszej pracy potwierdzają możliwość wykorzystania wskaźników fizjologicznych do oceny funkcji ratunkowej urządzeń wypornościowo-ratunkowych u nurków.

In city traffic, the driver's visual tasks are not just limited to observing the road. Visual information from the driver's immediate vicinity is also important for effective and safe driving. There may be objects of various luminance in the driver's field of vision, such as shop windows, conventional billboards and LED billboards. Excessive luminance of surfaces in the road's vicinity, especially at night, may lead to reduced visual performance of drivers. Special hazard comes from LED billboards that, apart from very high luminance levels, also feature large surfaces, high luminance contrast and colour contrast, and whose content (animated or video) is very dynamic. The article presents results of pilot study completed with the use of a driving simulator, analyses the obtained results and discusses the applied test method.

A significant increase in demand for navigation support systems called Onboard Routing Systems (ORS) can be observed in the World’s merchant fleet. ORS is a navigation-support system that enables route programming to warn of dangers and navigation constraints and determine the required route-safety level directly onboard the vessel. In this article, an attempt to analyze and compare two ORS systems has been made: the Ship Performance Optimization System (SPOS), by the Meteo Consult Group; and the Bon Voyage system by Applied Weather Technologies (AWT). Individual items, methods, and criteria of both systems for optimization and weather forecasting models utilized have been compared. Particular attention has been paid to the usefulness of the systems regarding the problem of identification and avoidance of hazards such as tropical cyclones and wave resonance. Ergonomics of both systems has also been compared.

This paper presents modern application of fire safety engineering (FSE) in the shaping of civil engineering development. Presented scientific achievements of FSE become tools used in typical modern engineering workflow. Experience gained through successful implementations of these solutions is then further crafted into prescriptive laws that shape future fire safety. This diffusion of knowledge is limited by law requirements themselves, technical limitations, and yet unresolved challenges that are still being worked on by the researchers in this field. This paper aims to present the achievements of the FSE discipline that may and should be used by civil engineers and other participants of the building process. Explanations given for the choices of fire safety engineers allow a better understanding of their gravity by representatives of other engineering branches. That way it is possible to build empathy between different engineering disciplines, which may significantly improve both the building design process and safety of the buildings itself. The chosen framework of this paper is Appendix A to EU Construction Products Regulation defining basic goals for a fire safe building, with a possible application of FSE given for each of these goals. The current framework of performance-based FSE is presented in relation to the Polish legal system, with recommendations on how to improve both FSE and civil engineering in the future.

Based on Energy Calculation Star program and molecular dynamic method, three designed 2,3-bis(hydroxymethyl)-2,3-dinitro-1,4-butanediol tetranitrate-based (BHDBT) propellants are firstly reported and their physicochemical performance are investigated. Results suggest that compared with HMX-based and CL-20-based propellants, the specific impulses of all BHDBT-based propellants surpass or approximate 280 s, which indicates the latter have the potential to be high-energy propellants. The diffusion coefficient of plasticizers in BHDBT-based propellant decrease as the temperature reduces, and reduce in the order: Bu-NENA > TMETN > BTTN. The densities of all BHDBT-based propellants surpass or approximate 1.7 g/cm3. The comparison of elastic constants, Poisson’s ratios and K/G values indicates that the mechanical properties of three BHDBT-based propellants increase in the order (by plasticizer): Bu-NENA < TMETN < BTTN. The bond length analysis of C–NO2 and O–NO2 bond in BHDBT suggests that the former is the trigger bond in the BHDBT-based propellants, and the safety of BHDBT-based propellants and BHDBT crystal decreases in the order: GAP/BTTN/Al/BHDBT > GAP/Bu-NENA/Al/BHDBT ≈ GAP/TMETN/Al/BHDBT > BHDBT. In conclusion, GAP/BTTN/Al/BHDBT propellant has the potential to be a novel high-energy propellant.

Workplace safety performance is computed using frequency rate (FR) and severity rate (SR). Only work time lost due to occupational incidents that need to be reported is counted. FR and SR are the 2 most important safety performance indicators that are applied universally; however, calculations differ from country to country. All injuries and time lost should be considered while calculating safety performance. The extent of severity does not matter as every incident is counted. So, a new factor has to be defined; it should be based on the hours or days lost due to each occupational incident, irrespective of its severity. The new safety performance factor is defined as the average human-hour unit lost due to occupational accidents/incidents, including fatalities, first-aid incidents, bruises and cuts. The formula is simple and easy to apply.

In data link layer for vehicular Ad hoc Network, a twelve digit access control mechanism is available. That is Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol should be able to accommodate a wide variety of safety oriented real time applications in vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs). The most important aspect of those applications is the transmission safety messages in which we call it as Basic Safety Messages (BSMs) through V2V and V2I systems. When traffic thickness is heavy, a scheduled transfer of BSMs places a large load on the VANETs’ stack, compromising network compatibility and performance. This article addresses a Decentralized TDMA-based framework for regulating transmission boundaries in VANETs to increase the potential of BSM transmissions. The transmitting effects are often low, but they do not reduce the consciousness of the nodes in close proximity. Consolidating packet collisions are often observed and cutoff at that time by a concerted effort among the nodes. Our procedures will provide a profitable and efficient BSM broadcasting, according to the simulation results.

Background Studies suggest that teachers’ ability to perform their work tasks well is one of the most important antecedents of the achievements of students. This project was focused on verifying an underresearched relation among basic psychological needs satisfaction and frustration, the way the teachers use their time to recover from work stressors, with their performance and self-efficacy. Material and Methods The participants were 503 teachers from a representative sample of schools in Poland. In the study performance (Individual Work Performance Questionnaire), self-efficacy (Norwegian Teachers Self-Efficacy Scale), basic psychological needs (Basic Psychological Needs Satisfaction and Frustration Scale), and recovery processes (Recovery Experience Questionnaire) were measured. Results As expected, the results showed that there is a strong relation between basic psychological needs and teachers’ individual performance and self-efficacy. However, this relation is partially mediated by some recovery processes, mostly control and detachment. Conclusions The results prove that, to some extent, the relation between basic psychological needs satisfaction and teachers’ performance and self-efficacy could be explained by the stress recovery processes undertaken by teachers in their free time. This study focused on explaining these relations and suggesting ideas for further studies in this domain.

In this paper, the authors presented some technical and economic relations to which a team designing a new means of transport should pay attention. In the first chapter briefly describes the hovercraft designed and built at the Institute of Aviation, as well as showing the certification documents obtained in the process of certification by the Polish Register of Shipping and Inland Navigation Office. The second chapter shows some parts of the production process. In the third chapter shows the drive unit and the characteristics of the selected motor. Problems of selecting a drive unit for a newly designed hovercraft aimed at transporting people and goods were described. The choice of propulsion engine, its quality and the kind of fuel affect the cost of purchase as well as the time and exploitation costs. A user planning a transport network pays particular attention to minimizing operating costs and the consequent reliability and safety. The authors presented regulations and standards, which need to be met by the transport unit designed for use in the public area. Attention was also paid to ecology, noise and pollution. An algorithm, which takes into account the rules of conduct, requirements of the ordering party and conditions of the manufacturer, was proposed. In conclusion, the generalized technical and economic guidelines are proposed which, in the authors’ opinion, may aid the development of a conceptual design of new modes of transport – not only the hovercraft.

This paper focused on analysing actual state-of-the-art personal protective equipment (PPE) used in humanitarian demining for the determination of potential gaps to provide improvements to increase the safety and, simultaneously, performance of PPE. The essential requirements and technical standards for PPEs used in humanitarian demining operations were analysed as a basis for gap identification. Furthermore based on the defined gap and risk analysis, the effect of accelerated ageing and simulation of the use of soft ballistic inserts designed with p-aramid woven fabrics was performed. The research provided new inputs for improvements in the standardisation of PPE with respect to performance and safety validation in a laboratory environment. Moreover the gap analysis resulted in strictly identified gap areas for PPE improvement in usability, functionality and safety.
Akcja humanitarnego rozminowywania jest bezpośrednio związana z ochroną ludności na terenach powojennych. Istotnym aspektem jest bezpieczeństwo personelu uczestniczącego w rozminowywaniu. Przedstawiona praca koncentruje się na analizie obecnie stosowanych ochron osobistych (PPE) stosowanych podczas humanitarnego rozminowywania celem określenia potencjalnych luk w celu zapewnienia poprawy i zwiększenia bezpieczeństwa, a jednocześnie wydajności PPE. Zasadnicze wymagania i standardy techniczne dla PPE wykorzystywanych w operacjach humanitarnego rozminowywania analizowano jako podstawę do identyfikacji luk. Ponadto, w oparciu o określone luki i analizę ryzyka, przeprowadzono proces przyspieszonego starzenia się i symulację zastosowania miękkiego wkładu balistycznego zaprojektowanego z tkaniny paramidowej. Przeprowadzone badania wprowadzają nowe dane wejściowe dla nowych ulepszeń w standaryzacji PPE w odniesieniu do weryfikacji skuteczności i bezpieczeństwa w środowisku laboratoryjnym. Ponadto analiza luk spowodowała określenie luk użyteczności, funkcjonalności i bezpieczeństwa PPE.

The year 2022 was marked by economic risks with potentially very sensitive impacts for countries in the Black Sea region. Given the limited capacity of Ukrainian ports, as well as the sanctions imposed on Russia, due to ongoing conflict, it was necessary to identify new destinations capable of taking over the flow of goods that normally went to the countries involved in this conflict. In addition to the risks specific to maritime transport, the risk of armed conflict comes with new challenges that can also materialize in the form of environmental impact. To analyze this potential impact, the study is being focused mainly on the analysis of the pollution risk generated by the emissions caused by the vessels calling the container terminal CSCT, located in Constanța harbor, and the emissions generated by the vehicles moving in the terminal. As estimated from the start all levels of pollution have increased, with the level of CO2 increasing from 11072.7 tons in 2021 to 11915.7 tons in 2022. The NOx emissions have a similar trend, as well as the other emission level measured and calculated.

W artykule omówiono uregulowania prawne i praktyczne problemy dotyczące tworzenia planu bezpieczeństwa i ochrony zdrowia. Odniesiono się do związków planu bezpieczeństwa i ochrony zdrowia z harmonogramem robót budowlanych, oceną ryzyka zawodowego oraz instrukcjami bezpiecznego wykonywania robót budowlanych. Przedstawiono rolę planu bezpieczeństwa i ochrony zdrowia w zarządzaniu procesem budowlanym, koordynacji robót i informowaniu wykonawców i ich pracowników o zagrożeniach związanych z realizacją procesu budowlanego. W końcowej części podjęto próbę klasyfikacji najczęściej występujących nieprawidłowości, jakie występują w planach bezpieczeństwa i ochrony zdrowia, a także przyczyn ich występowania.
The article discusses the legal regulations and practical problems related to creating a safety and health plan. Reference was made to the relationship between the safety and health protection plan and the construction works schedule, occupational risk assessment and instructions for safe execution of construction works. The role of the safety and health protection plan in the construction process management, works coordination and informing contractors and their employees about the risks related to the construction process was presented. In the final part, an attempt was made to classify the most common irregularities that occur in safety and health protection plans, as well as the reasons for their occurrence.
