Evaluation of inorganic and organic compounds as corrosion inhibitors of Cu-Zn alloys in H2 SO4 and HNO3 solutions was studied using potentiodynamic and impedance spectroscopy along with scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-Ray analyzer (EDX) investigations. The corrosion inhibition of Cu-Zn alloys was investigated in oxy acid solutions using inorganic potassium permanganate and di-hydrogen phosphate, amino acids as environmentally safe materials, commercial cooling water, and green tea extracts. Both potassium permanganate and di-hydrogen phosphate improve the corrosion resistance of Cu-Zn alloys. Phosphate appears more effective as corrosion inhibitor for Cu-Zn alloys than permanganate. The inhibition efficiency (IE%) of the different amino acids such as valine, leucine and lysine was also calculated. The experimental results have shown that amino acid-like lysine can be used as an efficient corrosion inhibitor for the Cu-Zn alloys in oxy acid solutions. This may be due to the presence of two amino groups adsorbed together. For lysine, inhibition efficiency, IE%, of ~87 and ~59 is for H2SO4 and ~96.3 and 54.9 for HNO3 for alloy I and II respectively are observed. Due to the composition of green water have a great effect on the inhibition action on Cu-Zn alloys which reaching 91.8 and 96.5% for Alloy I and 95.4 and 87.1% for Alloy II in 0.5 M H2 SO4 and HNO3 respectively. Although benzotriazole, in cooling water, is an excellent inhibitor suitable for use in a wide variety of environments, it has toxic properties. So, much of the recent researches have focused on formulating new and more environmentally acceptable preservation solutions. The green tea, as plant extract, will be very environmentally friendly. The EDX confirm the formation of a protective layer on the Cu-Zn alloys containing aluminum in Alloy II. This sequence reflects the beneficial effects of Al in Alloy II. The presence of 2.43% Al in Alloy II improves the corrosion resistance due to the formation of thin, transparent, stable and self-healing Al2 O3 layer. This confirmed the results obtained from the potentiodynamic polarization measurements and EIS methods.

In this study, corncob was used as reductant for sulfuric acid leaching of manganese ore from Daweezi, Upper Mohmand Agency, Pakistan. X-ray diffraction of representative powdered samples revealed the presence of manganese silicate MnSiO(SiO4), calcite (CaCO3), and -quartz (SiO2). X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive spectroscopy analyses indicated that the examined manganese ore was siliceous in nature. Three process parameters were investigated in the present study including the particle size of the ore, leaching temperature, and amount of corncob. Manganese extraction of 92.48 wt% was achieved for a leaching time of 60 min at 90 oC using 1.9 mol/dm3 H2SO4 concentration and 4 g of corncob. The present results demonstrated that corncob is a low cost, renewable, and non-hazardous reducing agent for manganese leaching under mild acid conditions in comparison to the other available reagents.

Wastes of most marble types are distinguished with their superior CaCO3 content and potential to utilize them as an alternative to limestone. Control of SO2 using marble wastes in wet flue gas desulphurization (WFGD) units of coal fired thermal power plants is an important opportunity. In this study, nine types of marble wastes were evaluated in terms of their ability to dissolution (reactivity) in an acidic environment. The reactivity was expressed as fractional conversion with time with respect to the chemical composition and particle distribution of wastes as well as temperature and pH of solution. Dissolution reaction rate constants were also computed. Reactivity of the wastes varied significantly with chemical compositions of the marble types. The same marble type displayed different dissolution profiles as a function of test conditions (fineness, temperature, pH). Higher contents of CaCO3 and Fe2O3 positively influenced dissolution ability and rates, whereas increased MgCO3 content had adverse effects. The changes in particle size, temperature and pH influenced the reactivity. The reactivity increased with decreasing particle size. Also, higher temperature and increased acidity favored dissolution ability of the marble wastes. Our results showed that under optimized conditions marble wastes, having a higher content of CaCO3 and low content of MgCO3, are potential SO2 sorbent alternative.

Opis:
The effect of Na2SO3 as a pyrite depressant in NaCl and KCl saline media and the presence of kaolinite were evaluated by zeta potential tests. Chalcopyrite was also included in the study, because pyrite usually accompanies this mineral. Subsequently, the floatability results of both minerals in the NaCl solution were optimized based on the design of experiments (DoE). The Box–Behnken DoE was applied considering the percentage of kaolinite $(X_1)$, collector dose $(X_2)$, and depressant dose $(X_3)$ as factors. The results were modeled using artificial neural networks (ANNs) to construct contour plots and to determine the optimal conditions. In particular, maximization of the mass recovery of chalcopyrite and minimization of that of pyrite were sought. The particle swarm optimization algorithm was used as an optimization technique. The results indicated that the optimal conditions to maximize the floatability of chalcopyrite were kaolinite 6.85%, collector dose $3.58 × 10^{–3} mol$ / $dm^3$, and depressant dose $3.49 × 10^{–5} mol$ / $dm^3$. On the contrary, the optimal conditions to minimize the floatability of pyrite were 5% kaolinite, collector dose $5 × 10^{–4} mol$ / $dm^3$, and depressant dose $6.4 × 10^{–5} mol$ / $dm^3$. Under these conditions, the mass recoveries of chalcopyrite and pyrite were 66.1% and 14.0%, respectively. The results also indicated that the presence of kaolinite negatively affects the flotation of chalcopyrite, while the effect of $Na_2SO_3$ is not significant. In general, the findings suggest that $Na_2SO_3$ is a viable alternative to consider as a pyrite depressant in saline environments.

EPR of Mn$\text{}^{2+}$ impurity ion in the (NH$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{3}$H(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$ crystal is studied in the temperature range 80-420 K. It is shown that Mn$\text{}^{2+}$ substitutes NH$\text{}_{4}^{+}$(I) ion and is coordinated in deformed oxygen octahedron in which takes two "off-center" positions. Its spin-Hamiltonian parameters and direction cosines of crystal field are determined. The successive EPR line splitting for three phase transitions is discussed.

Since 1992, the Forest Management Department in cooperation with the Forestry Natural Foundation Department of the University of Life Sciences in Poznań have been regularly monitoring the levels of sulphur compound and dust emissions in the Zielonka Primeval Forest at observation points distributed on 14 permanent study sites located in pine stands in age classes II−V. This paper presents an assessment of the threat posed to the forest environment on the basis of changes in the industrial emission level over the past fifteen years in this area of special value for nature. In 1993, the area was included in the "Puszcza Zielonka" Landscape Park.

Opis:
Technical and biological monitoring was started in early 1990s in the territory of the Murowana Goślina Experimental Forest Station. The permanent monitoring included weather conditions, levels of sulphur compound emissions and dust depositions, as well as changes in tree health using the bioindication method. The long−term studies were carried out on 14 permanent study sites located in pine stands in age classes II−V. This study presents the health condition of the tested stands in relation to the changes in the level of industrial emissions in the period 1992−2006.

In this study, the decomposition behavior of Ta and Nb from the mangano-tantalite ore was investigated using HF/H2SO4 mixture and KOH fusion. The effects of reaction time, decomposition temperature, acid and alkaline concentrations, and particle size on the dissolution process were examined. Higher decomposition rates were achieved at 6:2 mol/dm3 ratio of HF and H2SO4, and with the addition of 10 g KOH in the alkali fusion step. In addition, similar trends in decomposition rates between two agents (HF/H2SO4 and KOH) and comparable dissolution performances were observed. The increase in the decomposition temperature initially increased the decomposition rate of mangano-tantalite for the two systems considered in this study. However, no significant change in the leaching rate of Ta and Nb was observed beyond 50 °C for the HF/H2SO4 system and above 400 °C when using the KOH fusion process. The elemental and compositional analyses of the leached residues using XRF, XRD, and FT-IR spectroscopy indicated that the acid (mixture of HF and H2SO4) decomposition resulted in slightly better dissolution performance for Ta compared with the alkaline fusion method. Overall, the results indicated that KOH can be a suitable alternative decomposition agent to the volatile, corrosive and toxic HF in the hydrometallurgical processing of tantalite ores.

The household codes in which we find the advices given to fathers are the exegetes’ focus of attention since the time of Reformation. From this period on, on the basis of various criteria, one tried to define the genre of household codes and set them apart as a separate body in the New Testament literature. Following the particular topic which regards the exhortations addressed to pater familias, we analyzed two fragments contained respectively in the Letter to Colossians and in the Letter to Ephesians. To grasp the specificity of these instructions, embedded in an easily traceable and repeating scheme, one should start with finding the common characteristics of the said paraenetic texts. The analyses showed that a common factor is a universal rule based on the two mutually complementing elements: subordination and reciprocity having their source in the Wisdom literature of the Old Testament and the commandment of love. Having in mind the above mentioned rule and the Hellenistic culture in which the addressees of the instructions lived, we examined the command given in the Letter to Colossians. It constitutes a point of departure for the expanded, catechismal instructions contained in the Letter to Ephesians.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the post-harvest changes in the quality of red currants (Ribes rubrum L.) cv. ‘Rovada’ after 60 days of storage under modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) conditions. The storage unit was a pallet, and two treatments were performed. The CO2-MAP treatment was used as a control, while the SO2-MAP treatment was CO2-MAP plus SO2. The initial gas composition was 15.0 kPa O2 and 10.0 kPa CO2 inside all MAPs, while SO2-generating active sheets were added to pellets in SO2-MAP treatment. Weight loss, total soluble solid content, titratable acidity, total phenolic and anthocyanin contents, antioxidant activity, microbial count, and visual and sensorial appearance were monitored after 30 and 60 days. The results showed that berries stored with SO2 maintained the quality parameters for up to 60 days. Exposure to SO2 was effective in controlling yeast evolution, reducing the population both at 30 and 60 days at one and two orders of magnitude, respectively. Red currants stored under SO2 MAP obtained better visual quality score compared to CO2 MAP-treated berries throughout storage. Active emitters of SO2, such as those proposed in this study, can be promising solutions to improve the post-harvest storage of red currants and the berries marketability.

Ammonium sulfate ((NH4)2SO4) exhibits promoting effects in malachite sulfidization flotation. However, the promotion mechanism remains poorly understood. In this study, micro-flotation tests, zeta-potential measurements, scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and materials studio simulation (DFT) were used to investigated the promotion mechanism of $(NH_4)_2SO_4$. Micro-flotation test demonstrates that the recovery of malachite from 73% increased to 83%, when the (NH4)2SO4 was added. Contact angle and zeta potential test results indicate that addition of $Na_2S•9H_2O$ changes the surface properties of malachite and provide the conditions for adsorption of butyl xanthate (BX). After promoting the sulfidization by $(NH_4)_2SO_4$, BX is more effective in improving the hydrophobicity. SEM-EDS and AFM results show that $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ can improve performance and stability of sulfidization. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicates that after sulfidization, polysulfides and cuprous were appeared in malachite surface, infers that a redox reaction occurs between sulfur and copper on the surface of malachite. After addition of $(NH_4)_2SO_4$, the percentage of polysulfides and cuprous were increased, it implies $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ can accelerate the redox reaction. Computational results show that after adding $(NH_4)_2SO_4$, the adsorption energy of HS- on the malachite surface is reduced, implies that $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ can improve the stability of HS-adsorption on the surface of malachite.

Previous studies on the effectiveness of improving sustainable development have acknowledged the importance of domestic research and development (R&D) activities. However, these studies remain general and ambiguous because they assume that all R&D activities are related to energy-saving and sustainable development. The corresponding empirical evidence is scabrous and ambiguous. In this paper, we focus on the effect of green innovation R&D activities on SO2 emission which is an important greenhouse gas affect global climate change and eco-civilization. Considering that there is heterogeneity exists in the innovation activities, the R&D activities are divided into three performers with two purposes. The empirical results based on a Chinese inter-provincial dataset of 2000-2016 suggest that the green innovation R&D activities are crucial for the reduction of the SO2 emission. However, the innovation R&D activities of different purposes and performers show statistically differentiated effects on SO2 emission. The major positive effect of green innovation R&D activities on SO2 emissions reduction is mainly from enterprises and utility-type of R&D activities. A further study based on the panel threshold also indicates that effects of green innovation R&D activities on SO2 emissions are nonlinear, depending on the technology absorptive ability.
Dotychczasowe badania nad zrównoważonym rozwojem potwierdziły znaczenie krajowych działań badawczo-rozwojowych (B + R). Jednak badania te pozostają ogólne i niejednoznaczne, ponieważ zakładają, że wszystkie działania B + R są związane z energooszczędnością i zrównoważonym rozwojem. Odpowiednie dowody empiryczne są niejednoznaczne. W artykule skupiamy się na wpływie działań badawczo-rozwojowych związanych z zielonymi innowacjami na emisję SO2, który jest ważnym gazem cieplarnianym, wpływającym na globalne zmiany klimatyczne. Biorąc pod uwagę, że istnieje heterogeniczność działań innowacyjnych, działalność B + R wskazano 3 aktorów z 2 celami. Wyniki empiryczne oparte na chińskim międzyprowincjalnym zbiorze danych z lat 2000-2016 sugerują, że działania badawczo-rozwojowe związane z zielonymi innowacjami są kluczowe dla redukcji emisji SO2. Jednak innowacyjne działania o różnych celach i różnych wykonawcach wykazują statystycznie zróżnicowany wpływ na emisję SO2. Główny pozytywny wpływ działań B + R w zakresie zielonych innowacji na redukcję emisji SO2 wynika głównie z działalności przedsiębiorstw i działalności B + R o charakterze użytkowym. Dalsze badanie oparte na panelu wskazuje również, że wpływ działań badawczo-rozwojowych związanych z zielonymi innowacjami na emisje SO2 jest nieliniowy, w zależności od zdolności absorpcyjnej technologii.

Opis:
Exhaust gases with high SO2 concentrations are emitted from combustion of high sulphur fossil fuels and from different industrial processes (e.g. copper smelter and sintering plants). The application of the electron beam process for SO2 and NOx removal from such flue gases was investigated. A parametric study was carried out to determine the SO2 and NOx removal efficiency as a function of temperature and humidity of irradiated gases, absorbed dose and ammonia stoichiometry. The efficiency 90–95% of SO2 removal was obtained in the optimal treatment conditions with an inlet SO2 concentration of up to 15% vol. The synergistic effect of high SO2 content on NOx removal was indicated. The collected by-product was a mixture of ammonium sulphate and nitrate. The content of heavy metals in the by- -products was many times lower than the values accepted for commercial fertilizers.
