Opis:
Parkinson’s disease is associated with memory loss, anxiety, and depression in the brain. Problems such as poor balance and difficulty during walking can be observed in addition to symptoms of impaired posture and rigidity. The field dedicated to making computers capable of learning autonomously, without having to be explicitly programmed, is known as machine learning. An approach to the diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease, which is based on artificial intelligence, is discussed in this article. The input for this system is provided through photographic examples of Parkinson’s disease patient handwriting. Received photos are preprocessed using the relief feature option to begin the process. This is helpful in the process of selecting characteristics for the identification of Parkinson’s disease. After that, the linear discriminant analysis (LDA) algorithm is employed to reduce the dimensions, bringing down the total number of dimensions that are present in the input data. The photos are then classified via radial basis function-support vector machine (SVM-RBF), k-nearest neighbors (KNN), and naive Bayes algorithms, respectively.

Germination can be used to enhance nutritional value and health functions of edible seeds. Sprouts are considered healthier than non-germinated seeds because they are richer in the basic nutritional components (protein, amino acid, carbohydrates, and minerals) and also contain more bioactive components. The present study is the first to dynamically analyze the germination properties regarding morphological characteristics, nutrient compounds, bioactive components and antioxidant activities of Firmiana platanifolia (F. platanifolia) seeds. The results showed that the appearance, color and morphology of F. platanifolia seeds and sprouts at different germination times showed considerable differences. With the increasing germination time, the moisture content, sucrose, fructose, total flavonoid content and DPPH significantly increased, and reached the peak at 8 d of germination, almost 2.38, 5.76, 4.02, 7.97 and 8.91 times higher than those of at 0 d, respectively. The soluble protein, total phenolic, ABTS and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) increased first and then decreased as the germination time increased, and were overall higher than those of at the initial concentration. However, total starch content and mineral elements decreased as germination progressed. Additionally, the total flavonoid content showed a strongly positive correlation with DPPH (p<0.01), whereas the total phenolic and total flavonoid content showed a similar, significant and positive correlation with ABTS and ferrous ion chelating activity (FICA, p<0.05). Therefore, seed germination significantly increased phytochemical contents and antioxidant activity. The current research results will help to reveal the dynamic changes in nutrient content and antioxidant activity of F. platanifolia seeds during the germination process, and provide reference data for further studying the development and utilization of germinated seeds.

The study developed an analytical procedure for the determination of Zn in human blood by taking into account spectral and chemical interferences. The ICP’s operational settings including radio frequency power, the plasma, and nebulizer gas flow rates, as well as the sample introduction rate and the digestion conditions were established using the response surface methodology (RSM). The paper also analyzes the usefulness of two wet decomposition methods – a closed system with microwave heating in Teflon bombs and a semi-closed system with heating in a heating block. The best ICP operating conditions were as follows: plasma and nebulizer gas flow rates: 14 and 0.5 L min-1 respectively, radio frequency power 1400 W and sample introduction rate 1.5 mL min-1. Three analytical lines most commonly used in the quantitative analysis of Zn by the ICP-OES technique were also tested for their applicability to biological material (whole human blood). Our results showed that the Zn signal overlapped with the Fe signal at 213.856 nm, and this line should be avoided in Zn assays of samples with high Fe content. There was also a significant effect of chemical interference from the digested sample matrix. The elaborated methodology was validated based on certified material and verified using real blood samples. Calibration with the matrix of most abundant elements provided high-accuracy determination.

The concept of the research is based on the effects of acid rains on the foliage of plants. The study was carried out on 12 coniferous tree (thuya, fir, larch, juniper, Scots pine, black pine, common spruce, silver spruce, cypress, yew tree, oriental thuya, Douglas fir) and 8 monocotyledonous plants (maize, wheat, barley, oats, rye, ryegrass, fescue, ditch reed). Samples of needles and leaves were collected from 20 species during the growth season from spring to summer at different sites of Poznan agglomeration. The needles and leaves were treated with 6 simulated acid rains (SAR) of pH 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, and 5.5 and kept for 72 h at 22°C. The filtrates were tested for Ca, Mg, K, Na, Zn and Fe. The data showed that the concentrations of leaked elements were closely related to the pH of SAR and also depended on the species. The most deleterious simulated acid rains for all tested plants were within the range pH = 3.0 - 4.0. Mineral leakage of coniferous needles as well as monocotyledonous leaves fitted mostly exponential and linear models, with exception of Na, which was described by the quadratic course. On the basis of the photosynthetic maintenance index PMI = Mg/(Zn+Fe), 67% of coniferous tree (CT) represented very low photosynthetic maintenance, contrary to monocotyledons (MP) with 75% corresponding to low photosynthetic maintenance. The high share of MP in this range is the finding which clearly points to the potential adaptability of the latter species to highly anthropogenic ecosystems. Urban greens should not be planted predominantly with conifers, although some may develop slight (grand fir, cypress, oriental thuya, Douglas fir) to high adaptability (Thuya occidentalis, juniper, yew tree) to urban conditions. Nearly all monocotyledons, particularly ryegrass, fescue, wheat, barley, oats and rye may be growing within anthropogenic zones, having strong adaptability features.

Members of Enterobacteriaceae are known to produce extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBL) which hydrolyze the beta-lactam group of antibiotics. The existence of ESBL-producing Salmonella enterica (S. enterica) and Escherichia coli (E. coli) harbored by urban avifauna was investigated in this study. Dropping samples (n= 180) were collected from six different bird species in the district Jhang, Punjab province, Pakistan. Isolation and identification of ESBL isolates were made by using cefotaxime- (4 mg/L) supplemented MacConkey agar and double disc synergy test (DDST). Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was performed for the detection of four different ESBL genes including bla CTX-M, bla TEM, bla SHV and bla OXA. A total of 42.69% isolates were confirmed as ESBL via DDST including 30.64% S. enterica and 49.54% E. coli. The incidence of ESBL S. enterica and ESBL E. coli was found highest in egret (Ardea alba) and pigeon (Columba livia) as 64.28% and 78.95%, respectively. The bla CTX-M gene was detected in 57.89% and 64.81% of isolates of S. enterica and E. coli, respectively. Among other genes in S. enterica and E. coli, bla TEM (21.05%, 20.4%); bla SHV (15.78%, 9.26%), and bla OXA (5.26%, 5.56%) were detected, respectively. All of the tested isolates were found resistant to at least one of the thirteen antimicrobial agents except meropenem. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study reporting the incidence and genetic diversity of ESBL bacteria associated with urban avifauna in Pakistan. The urban avifauna can serve as a potential subject of bio-surveillance to monitor the emergence of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria.

The transition from conventionally manned to autonomous ships is accompanied by the development of enhanced Decision Support Systems (DSS) for navigators. Such systems need to consider interactions among hardware, software, and humans and their potential effects on system performance, which require rigorous testing to verify the system's safe decision-making ability and operational limits. Testing requirements for verification are aimed at 1) assessing the system's reliability and failure handling performance, and 2) integration testing. This work uses the System-Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA) to develop integration tests for a novel DSS. STPA is a structured methodology to identify hazards from multiple sources, including hardware or software failures, system interactions, and human errors. The objectives of the study are to develop and assess the feasibility of integration test procedures based on STPA. The stability monitoring subsystem from the DSS is analyzed as a case study. The results are used to suggest functional and performance integration test procedures.

Salmonella contamination in poultry feed is one of the main issues in poultry industry and public health. The aim of the present study was molecular detection and typing of Salmonella serotypes isolated from poultry feeds. Moreover, we determined the antibiotic resistance pattern and the ability of biofilm formation in the serotypes. To this end, eighty feed samples were collected from aviculture depots. Salmonella serotypes were identified by culture and PCR methods. For serological identification, a slide agglutination test was used. BOXAIR and rep-PCR methods were applied to evaluate the diversity of serotypes. The disc diffusion method was performed to evaluate the antibiotic susceptibility of serotypes to sixteen antibiotics. Biofilm formation was also assessed by the microtiter-plate test. From a total of 80 feed samples, 30 samples were contaminated with Salmonella spp., which were divided into 5 different serotypes belonging to B, C, and D serogroups. BOXAIR-PCR (D value [DI] 0.985) and rep-PCR (DI 0.991) fingerprinting of isolates revealed 23 and 19 reproducible fingerprint patterns, respectively. A higher antibiotic resistance was observed to ampicillin and doxycycline (100% each), followed by chloramphenicol (83.33%) and tetracycline (73.33%). Multidrug resistance (MDR) was detected in all Salmonella serotypes. Half of the serotypes possessed the ability of biofilm formation with varied adhesion strengths. These results revealed the high and unexpected prevalence of Salmonella serotypes in poultry feed with MDR and biofilm formation ability. BOXAIR and rep-PCR revealed a high diversity of Salmonella serotypes in feeds and subsequently indicated variation in the source of Salmonella spp. The unknown sources harboring high diversity of Salmonella serotypes indicated poor control, which could cause problems for feed manufacturing.

Artykuł prezentuje wyniki analizy pierwszego polskiego tłumaczenia powieści Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens J.M. Barriego autorstwa Zofii Rogoszówny pt. Przygody Piotrusia Pana (1913) jako przekładu zapośredniczonego. W oparciu o metodę zainspirowaną krytyką tekstów, wewnątrz ramy badań nad przekładem niebezpośrednim, dowiedzione zostaje, że wersja Rogoszówny opierała się na niemieckim tłumaczeniu pt. Peter Pan im Waldpark (1911) autorstwa Irmgard Funcke. Artykuł jest również próbą udzielenia odpowiedzi na pytania o to, jak w wyniku wieloetapowej transmisji tekstu zmienia się profil jego projektowanego odbiorcy; jak za pomocą translatorskich przesunięć tłumaczki „przystosowały” tekst wyjściowy do wrażliwości czytelników (stosując domestykację lub uniwersalizację kulturową); jak zatem – przez pryzmat transferu językowego – scharakteryzować można myślenie o dziecku oraz rolę literatury dla młodych w Anglii, Niemczech i Polsce w początkach XX wieku.
The article presents the results of the analysis of the first Polish translation of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens authored by Zofia Rogoszówna (Przygody Piotrusia Pana, 1913) as a mediated translation. Based on a method inspired by textual criticism, inside the framework of indirect translation studies, I argue that Rogoszówna’s version was based on the German translation Peter Pan im Waldpark (1911) by Irmgard Funcke. The article also addresses the questions of how, due to the multistage transmission of the text, the profile of its projected addressee changes; how, by means of translational shifts, translators “adjust” the original to the sensibilities of the readers (by domestication or cultural universalisation); how, therefore—through the prism of linguistic transfer—thinking about the child and the role of juvenile literature in England, Germany and Poland of the early twentieth century can be characterised.

The subject of reflection in this article is the interdependence of the concept of time, which is not in contradiction with the idea of eternity, memory and the “dialogical” soul. The views of J. Ratzinger against the background of the ancient tradition represented by St. Augustin, whose reflection is the basis and starting point of Ratzinger’s concept of time, conceived anthropologically and spiritually. Then, their continuation is presented on the basis of the theological discussion with G. Greshake, in which he criticizes the theory of resurrection in death without the soul, containing the essence of the existence of the human person and its history. At the same time, Ratzinger regards Greshake’s effort to re-understand time as a step forward in understanding the hope of eternal life. A reference to contemporary philosophy presented on the example of Martin Heidegger, whose analyzes and, unfortunately, the closed notions of temporality and being that describe human existence, are included in the background of considerations on eternity. This shows that also on the basis of existential philosophy it is at least possible to be aware of the idea of eternity and God. The above analysis also indicates the need for a new study of the biblical and anthropological foundations of the issue of time – memory, soul and speaking about eternal life in their context.
