Opis:
The article presents results of monitoring carried out in barns with milking robots. The use of milking robots makes it possible, with proper stocking, to milk cows without human intervention. The analysis included all barns with Lely robots located in the Podlaskie Voivodeship in 2018-2021. In 2018-2019, there were seven such barns, and in 2020-2021 nine. In all barns, high milk yields were obtained of more than 1000 kg compared to the average milk yield obtained from stock of cows under monitoring in the Podlaskie Voivodeship. In 2021, four barns milked more than 9.5 thous. kg, three barns more than 10 thous. kg and two barns almost 12 thous. kg of milk. Fat and protein contents were typical for the breed. Three barns were monitored more closely in 2021, with varying numbers of robot milking stations in barns, i.e. A one, B two and C three milking stations. In 2021, over 700,000 kg was milked per stall in stall A, over 750,000 kg in B and over 850,000 kg of milk in C. The average milk per cow per milking was high, with over 11 kg in barn A, 12 kg in B and 13 kg in C.

Opis:
Agricultural biogas plants are not only a place for processing waste resulting from animal husbandry, but also for generating electricity and heat as well as organic fertiliser. In a four-year experiment, pellets were used as organic fertiliser in the establishment of an experiment with fast-growing oxytrees. The study aimed to investigate the growth and stem thickness increment, overwintering in the first and subsequent years of cultivation under the conditions of north-eastern Poland. The dried digestate and the pellets made from it were characterised by a high content of macroelements (N – 1,95%, P2O5 – 1,1%, K2O – 1,3%). The applied pellet from an agricultural biogas plant under oxytree seedlings due to its slow decomposition had a good effect on the growth of oxytrees in the second and third years. The average growth of oxytrees in the second year was 209.7 cm, and in the third year, 246.8 cm. The growth of oxytrees fertilised with pellets made from the digestate of an agricultural biogas plant was 13% higher than that of trees growing on the control strip.

Opis:
The aim of the present study was to investigate the association of age related macular degeneration (AMD) risk with some aspects of iron homeostasis: iron concentration in serum, level of soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR), and transferrin receptor (TFRC) genetic variability. Four hundred and ninety one AMD patients and 171 controls were enrolled in the study. Restriction fragment length polymorphism PCR was employed to genotype polymorphisms of the TFRC gene, and colorimetric assays were used to determine the level of iron and sTfR. Multiple logistic regression was applied for all genotype/allele-related analyses and the ANOVA test for iron and sTfR serum level comparison. We found that the genotypes and alleles of the c.-253G > A polymorphism of the TFRC gene were associated with AMD risk and this association was modulated by smoking status, AMD family history, living environment (rural/urban), body mass index and age. The levels of sTfR was higher in AMD patients than controls, whereas concentrations of iron did not differ in these two groups. No association was found between AMD occurrence and the p.Gly142Ser polymorphism of the TRFC gene. The results obtained suggest that transferrin receptor and variability of its gene may influence AMD risk.
