Opis:: One of the important and open issues in modern businesses is the financing of research and development R&D activities, treated as an instrument of research and development policy. Maintaining the competitiveness of business entities requires the systemic creation and implementation of innovations, which requires expenditure on R&D activities. The aim of this paper is to identify the level, dynamics and structure of expenditures on R&D activities in Poland and in Polish businesses. The time range of the study covers the years 2015–2019 (or 2017–2019 in the analysis of expenditures in the enterprise sector), the scope concerns the financial aspects of R&D activity on a national scale and in the sector of Polish enterprises, and the sources of the data for analysis are publications of Poland's Central Statistical Office (Statistics Poland). The study applied the following methods: a critical and cognitive analysis of literature in identifying the research problem, a descriptive and comparative method in presenting the problem, a statistical method in calculating percentage shares, and a projection method in proposing model solutions. Overall, the analysis found a relatively low level and dynamics of expenditures incurred on R&D in Poland and in the enterprise sector. Therefore, R&D policy among Polish enterprises can be described as conservative and ad hoc in nature.

Opis:: The article presents the historical background and development of unmanned land platforms in selected countries, including Russia, Germany, the US and Poland. The author points out the technical problems of combat use of unmanned land platforms, among others, related to the difficulty of operating in the field, control of armaments, and their lower effectiveness compared to unmanned aerial vehicles. In his opinion, the most desirable directions for the development of unmanned land platforms in the areas of operations support and logistics, and the need to turn to higher-weight platforms. In conclusion, the author postulates the thesis that full autonomous combat use of unmanned land platforms is likely to be economically unjustified as well as unprofitable in terms of the combat value of these vehicles in the next few to several years. The author points out the need to develop this technology and use a technological benchmark mainly of US solutions.

Opis:: The need to undertake research work on the commercialization of results from scientific research and development projects emerged from the Author’s professional experience as well as the incomprehensive literature on the role of Polish research institutes in the process of technology transfer and commercialization of innovative solutions, in particular in the case of mining machinery and equipment. From the available literature, the commercialization of research results and technology transfer are analyzed from the perspectives of academia and entrepreneurs, but there is no analysis of this challenge from the perspective of the research institutes which create the majority of innovative solutions implemented in Poland. The research results presented in this article identify and highlight not only the main factors which facilitate knowledge transfer in the widest sense, but also the barriers which should be overcome. An integrated commercialization model of research results, developed by the Author, is described in the article. Some examples of other models, used to assess innovative technology transfer processes, i.e. Transfer model of the Cracow University of Technology, Jolly’s model, United model (science + market), Trzmielak’s linear – subsequent model, Network – interactive model and IpOp model, are also presented. Special attention is paid to the process of generating innovative ideas and to the area of efficient project management. Based on the integrated model, practical management recommendations for the successful commercialization of innovative solutions are given. It is highlighted that the integrated model can be treated as a diagnostic tool, enabling an efficient assessment of the transfer of research results and commercialization of innovative solutions.

Opis:: The paper deals with research and development of original small-size internal combustion engine Lombardini LGW 702. This engine was optimised for application in micro-cogeneration unit (MCU), equipped with variable-speed generator and electronic converter. The electronically controlled combustion engine in MCU works in a regime depending on the load of the generator. It has the lowest possible number of revolutions and minimum possible fuel consumption. The generator combines directly with the crankshaft of the engine. To reach stable parameters of the network, the power electronics controls and processes the variable frequency of the generator. A combustion engine powered by natural gas can utilise also a blend of natural gas and hydrogen and other alternative fuels produced from renewable sources of energy, e.g. synthesis gases. A comparison of engine parameters was made, namely parameters of engines powered by the above-mentioned alternative fuels, such as syngas, coke-oven gas, landfill gas, sewer gas, Hythane and natural gas. A new three-phase variable-speed generator and converter for micro-cogeneration unit were developed. The rated electric power of MCU is 4 kW. The power overload is 80%, compared to rated power. In the case of natural gas, the best electric efficiency is 25%, the thermal efficiency is 65% and the total efficiency of MCU is more than 90%.

Nanodetektory, będące nowej generacji środkami do ujawniania śladów linii papilarnych, mogą zostać zaimplementowane w docelowym środowisku, zwiększając potencjał możliwości wykrywczych organów ścigania oraz podnosząc komfort pracy ekspertów i techników kryminalistyki. The research and development project titled: ‘The detection of fingerprint traces with nanoparticles generated using high pressure technology’, also known as NANODAK, involved the development of a new generation of formulations for the detection of fingerprint traces: NANODAK 30, NANODAK 40 and NANODAK 1. Nanodetectors are safe for people and for the environment and are just as effective as dactyloscopic powder, which in practice has the form of argentorate. The new formulations do not demonstrate any negative ffects on other methods of fingerprinting or genetic testing. Nanodetectors, which represent a new generation of fingerprint detection methods, can be implemented in the target nvironment in order to improve the detecting potential of law enforcement authorities and improve the working conditions of forensic experts and technicians. The funding for this project was provided by the National Centre for Research and Development.

Opis:: The paper provides a new approach to the classification of EU countries into innovation-performance groups, taking into account their social regime. In the Introduction, it draws on some empirical evidence of synchronised research and development (R&D) performance within a social regime. In the second and third parts it reviews the literature on measuring R&D performance, and in the fourth part it summarizes social regime classifications. The fifth and longest part of the paper proceeds to a comparative analysis of the empirical data, pointing out disparities, both respects to numbers and members, in the composition of innovation-performance groups. In the final part, the paper summarizes key findings.

Opis:: Packaging also fosters effective marketing of the food through distribution and sale channels. It is of the utmost importance to optimize the protection of the food, a great quality and appearance - better than typical packaged foods. In recent years, intelligent packaging became very popular. Intelligent packaging is becoming more and more widely used for food products. Application of this type of solution contributes to improvement of the quality consumer life undoubtedly. Intelligent packaging refers to a package that can sense environmental changes, and in turn, informs the users about the changes. These packaging systems contain devices that are capable of sensing and providing information about the functions and properties of the packaged foods. Also, this paper will review intelligent packaging technologies and describe different types of indicators (time-temperature indicators, freshness indicators).
Opakowania umożliwiają efektywny marketing żywności przy zastosowaniu różnych kanałów sprzedaży i dystrybucji. Najważniejszym zadaniem jest optymalizacja ochrony żywności, jej jakości i wyglądu. W przeciągu ostatnich lat, wzrasta popularność opakowań inteligentnych, które zaczynają być stosowane dla coraz to większej liczby produktów żywnościowych. Zastosowania ich przyczyniają się do poprawy życia konsumenta. Określenie "opakowania inteligentne" stosuje się do opakowań wyczuwających zmiany w otoczeniu oraz będących w stanie informować o tych zmianach. Systemy opakowaniowe zawierają w sobie urządzenia wykrywające i dostarczające informacji dotyczących stanu zapakowanej żywności. Praca ta dokonuje przeglądu technologii opakowań inteligentnych oraz opisuje różnego rodzaju wskaźniki (temperatury, czasu i świeżości).

Opis:: Goal – The aim of the paper is to identify research and development in the accounting information system, with particular emphasis laid on the role of the management accounting subsystem in creating information for external reporting purposes. Research methodology – In order to achieve the goal, a method of scientific description was used, consisting in the analysis of the subject literature in the field of management and accounting, while using inductive reasoning and comparative analysis of selected regulations of the balance sheet law. Score – The use of the accounting information potential in the area of research and development requires the integration of information in the accounting information system so that the created information will be useful both for management and for the needs of various external stakeholders of the entity. Many methods in the field of management accounting are characterized by the focus on research and development activities. On the basis of the information focused on management needs enterprises can distinguish the components of the innovation process, separate the costs of research works from the costs of development works, document the development of economic benefits in the future, differently recognize the costs associated with them in the financial statements and make balance sheet valuation of the development costs. Originality/value – The paper is of conceptual character, it presents the contribution to the discussion on accounting convergence in the area of research and development. As a consequence, this process may contribute to the implementation and development of management accounting methods for managing innovative projects in enterprises and improving the quality of information presented in financial statements.
