Opis:
The nuclear microprobe installed at Instituto Tecnológico e Nuclear, in Lisbon, was used in the analysis of aerosols collected at the Azores islands. Samples from two different aerosol groups were analysed. One referred to aerosols that were carried from North America and the other one contained aerosols that were carried from the Sahara desert and crossed over Europe. Coarse and fine fractions were analysed for each aerosol group and two-dimensional elemental maps were constructed, which allowed the identification of several individual particles. For particles of interest, elemental spatial correlations and dimensions were determined and point analysis was also carried out (depth information was achieved by fitting Rutherford backscattering spectra). Some of these particles are quite interesting. For instance, in the fine fraction of the aerosols that were carried from North America, particles were found with Cu and Cl in the atomic proportion 1:2 and with dimensions 15×15×15μm$\text{}^{3}$, and in the corresponding coarse fraction a particle with K and S was identified, with dimensions 28×35×30μm$\text{}^{3}$. Some differences were found between the aerosols groups. One example of these are Ti particles (fine fraction) and Rb (coarse fraction) that were identified in one group (Sahara desert and Europe), but not in the other

Opis:
We present an aerobic and anaerobic, exercise and recovery energy cost model of intermittent energy costs utilizing task (work, Joules) as opposed to rate (per minute) measurements. Low to moderate intensity steady state exercise energy costs are typically portrayed as the volumetric rate at which oxygen is consumed (VO2 L min–1), where a proportionate upward climbing linear relationship is profiled with an increasing power output; add to this the concept of the anaerobic threshold and energy costs increase with more intense aerobic exercise in disproportion to VO2 L min–1 measurements. As a per task function, intermittent work and recovery bouts contain a combined estimate of total costs, that is as kJ or kcal (not kJ.min-1 or kcal.min-1). Adopting this approach to describe single and multiple sets of resistance training, the model that emerges for intermittent resistance exercise portrays linearity between equivalent work and total energy costs that differs proportionately among conditions – “continuous” muscular endurance vs. Intermittent higher load strength work, moderately paced vs. slower and faster conditions, smaller vs. larger working muscle masses and failure (fatigue) vs. non-failure states. Moreover, per kcal (or kJ) of total energy costs, work (J) is more inefficient with a greater load and lower repetition number as opposed to lower resistance with an increased number of repetitions. The concept of energy costs Rusing disproportionately with increased or prolonged work does not appear to apply to resistance exercise.

Opis:
The purpose of this paper is to use the hybridized optimization method in order to find mathematical structures for analysis of experimental data. The heuristic optimization method will be hybridized with deterministic optimization method in order to that structures found require not knowledge about data generated experimentally. Five case studies are proposed and discussed to validate the results. The proposed method has viable solution for the analysis of experimental data and extrapolation, with mathematical expression reduced.

A study of the magnetocaloric properties of La$\text{}_{1-x-y}$Y$\text{}_{y}$Ca$\text{}_{x}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$, La$\text{}_{1-x}$Cd$\text{}_{x}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$, and Pr$\text{}_{1-x}$Ca$\text{}_{x}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$ manganites with ferromagnetic and charge-ordered states is presented. The ferromagnetic lanthanum manganites show a negative entropy change peakΔ S under the application of a magnetic field at the Curie temperature. However, the magnetoelastic coupling effects lead to a first-order paramagnetic-ferromagn etic transition and an increasedΔ S compared to simple ferromagnets. This effect is analyzed in the framework of the Landau theory of phase transitions which shows a comparable influence of the magnetoelastic couplings and the ordinary magnetic ordering effect. The Pr$\text{}_{1-x}$Ca$\text{}_{x}$MnO $\text{}_{3}$ system shows a rich electric and magnetic phase diagram, with a ferromagnetic insulator phase for 0.15

Opis:
In this study we have analysed haplotypes of microsatellite markers of the CFTR gene: IVS8CA, IVS17BTA, IVS17BCA in 17 CF chromosomes of Polish origin and in 19 chromosomes of German origin bearing CF mutations other than ΔF508. In the Polish population, the G542X mutation is connected with haplotypes 16/17-28/32/38-13; in the German population, a more diverse haplotype association has been detected (23-33-13 and 16-32-13). The 1717-1G->A mutation is associated with the 15/16-7-13 haplotype in the Polish population, like the G551D mutation in Germany. The only analysed case of N1303K of Polish origin is connected with the 23-30-13 haplotype, like in the German population. One N1303K chromosome of an entirely different haplotype (16-29-17) turned out to be of Greek origin. These data suggest an ancient, Palaeolithic or Neolithic origin of these mutations in the territory of current Northern Europe.
