This paper has as its starting point Fairclough’s observation that we can consider social life as diverse but interconnected networks of stabilized or institutionalised social activities which function by means of discourse (Fairclough 2003). Discourses include representations of how things are, have been, might, could or should be and all discourses are inherently positioned. By comparing the discourse features from the The Financial Times “Lex” column from the period 1996 to 2006, we will consider what discoursal choices have been employed in order to establish and maintain knowledge in this specialized discourse and consider whether the writer/reader relationship has changed.

Opis:
RFID systems are one of the essential technologies and used many diverse applications. The security and privacy are the primary concern in RFID systems which are overcome by using suitable authentication protocols. In this manuscript, the cost-effective RFID-Mutual Authentication (MA) using a lightweight Extended Tiny encryption algorithm (XTEA) is designed to overcome the security and privacy issues on Hardware Platform. The proposed design provides two levels of security, which includes secured Tag identification and mutual authentication. The RFID-MA mainly has Reader and Tag along with the backend Server. It establishes the secured authentication between Tag and Reader using XTEA. The XTEA with Cipher block chaining (CBC) is incorporated in RFID for secured MA purposes. The authentication process completed based on the challenge and response between Reader and Tag using XTEA-CBC. The present work is designed using Verilog-HDL on the Xilinx environment and implemented on Artix-7 FPGA. The simulation and synthesis results discussed with hardware constraints like Area, power, and time. The present work is compared with existing similar approaches with hardware constraints improvements.

The publishing market is in the world of new media space as many opportunities as the threats for the popularization of the book. Not all of them are obvious, and their consequences are simple to foresee. Like the book itself, which with the change, or rather the differentiation of its character, can be understood as: object, product, good, medium, content, text, relation, service. This article discusses the contemporary book market in Poland in the light of global changes in publishing production and distribution. The key to understanding them is to consider the role of the book and its way of life. Answer the question of what is gaining and losing the book through the new digital media, and with it the author and the reader in the changing roles of the forming and learning entities.
Rynek wydawniczy w epoce nowych mediów to przestrzeń równie wielu szans co zagrożeń dla popularyzacji książki. Nie wszystkie są oczywiste, a ich konsekwencje proste do przewidzenia. Podobnie jak sama książka, która wraz ze zmianą, czy raczej zróżnicowaniem swojej postaci, może być rozumiana jako: przedmiot, produkt, dobro, obiekt, medium, treść, tekst, relacja, usługa. Niniejszy artykuł ukazuje współczesny rynek książki w Polsce w świetle globalnych zmian w zakresie produkcji i dystrybucji wydawniczej. Kluczowe dla ich zrozumienia jest rozważenie roli książki i sposobu jej istnienia. W tekście podjęto próbę odpowiedzi na pytania, co zyskuje, a co traci książka za sprawą nowych, cyfrowych mediów, a wraz z nią autor i czytelnik w zmiennych rolach podmiotów tworzących i poznających.

In recent years, we have been able to observe a stronger trend to explore the educational reality by way of scientific research. This results from the pressure on quantitative indicators and evidence-based arguments. International surveys focus mainly on educational effects and provide more or less accurate rankings of educational systems and the degree of learners’ success, school and national rates. In addition to these trends, however, it is also necessary to focus one’s research on the real world of children and young learners in a holistic concept. Qualitative research strategies prefer more phenomenological and personalistic approaches based on exploratory and investigative scientific methods. Such approaches have been applied by the authors in previous studies: they have published several studies and two monographs dedicated to children who are about to begin their education and their understanding of the world. This research was supported by the VEGA 1/0598/15 “The Child at the Threshold of Education and its World” project. In this paper, the authors will present brief findings from these studies. The basic source was authentic children’s testimonies to the significant phenomena of their world and childhood. Building on these findings, we are currently focusing our research on the formation and development of the children’s readability (supported by the VEGA 1/0455/18 “Research and Development of Readability with Younger School-Age Learners” project1). There are convincing claims that this phenomenon is the most important determinant of success in education and the development of creativity and critical thinking.

The article concerns the school reading of the Songs V, Eternal Disgrace of J. Kochanowski, which has been present in high school’s and technical school’s textbooks for decades. The critical moment is not understanding certain expressions, such as a „pitiful loot”, „to manage light people”, „we get in”, which leads to a weakening of the understanding of the entire piece. The author draws attention to the insufficient number of footnotes in the textbooks, not always correct, and therefore proposes to increase the linguistic and factual explanations, improve the existing ones, for which he used historical and contemporary dictionaries. He calls for readers’ vigilance, especially important in the case of old novels.

Mátyás Bánhegyi and Judit Nagy Department of English Linguistics Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary Faculty of Humanities The ‘Canada in the English Classroom’ joint research team of the University of Colongne and Károli Gáspár University of the Hungarian Reformed Church has been producing a cultural reader series to enhance the dissemination of up-to-date and engaging cultural information on Canada through general English language classes for the secondary school age group in Central Europe. The cultural reader series is seen as a means of facilitating cultural discourse and cross-cultural learning, also advocated in Canadian contexts by Berrell and Gloet (1999). Using Kramsch’s (1991) and Damen’s (2003) theories, the readers have been devised so that more abstract and/or lesser-known Canadian cultural aspects can be brought closer to the target group through English as a foreign language. To realize this objective in an effective way in the English classroom, Gochenour and Janeway’s (1993) model of culture learning has been observed, which advocates the gradual involvement of students in culture-related issues: starting from observation of culture moving towards genuine communication about culture. After introducing the cultural reader series project briefly, the paper will discuss the theoretical background behind the series and the project activities leading up to the preparation and compilation of its completed volumes. As a next step, an overview of the content of these volumes and the accompanying teacher’s notes will be presented. This will be followed by a sample unit demonstration of how the series achieves the goals the research has targeted.

The article attempts to answer the question of what is responsible in the column text for attributing to the authors only positive or neutral image features. The basis is the analysis of the empirical data collected with the participation of respondents, who after reading the column stated the characteristics of the author – in their view – shown in the presented text, and then indicated fragments expressing each of the attributed image features. They read the utterances of Krzysztof Varga, Piotr Zaremba, Magdalena Środa and Szymon Hołownia. It is interpreted that although the influence of such a relatively positive perception of the columnists could be influenced by the research procedure itself, which limited the critical approach to the author (defining its characteristics directly after reading the text), it seems that the most important means of convincing to themselves was the discursive design of the text (generalizations, strongly vocabulary, humour with irony, common parlance) and reading the entire text, which could give an effect of understanding and respect for the author even in the absence of his views.
W artykule próbuje się ustalić, co w tekstach felietonów odpowiada za fakt przypisywania autorom wyłącznie pozytywnych bądź neutralnych cech wizerunkowych. Podstawę stanowi analiza danych empirycznych, zebranych w badaniu, w którym respondenci po przeczytaniu felietonu określali cechy autora, ich zdaniem, widoczne w przedstawionym tekście, a następnie wskazywali fragmenty aktualizujące każdą z przypisanych cech wizerunkowych. Mieli do dyspozycji wypowiedzi Krzysztofa Vargi, Piotra Zaremby, Magdaleny Środy i Szymona Hołowni. Interpretuje się, że wpływ na tak relatywnie pozytywne postrzeganie twórców mogła mieć sama procedura badania, która utrudniała krytyczne odniesienie do autora (określenie jego cech bezpośrednio po przeczytaniu tekstu), ale wydaje się, że największe znaczenie wśród sposobów przekonania do siebie miało ukształtowanie dyskursywne tekstu (generalizacje, silnie nacechowane słownictwo, komizm wraz z ironią, potocyzmy) oraz samo przeczytanie całości tekstu, które mogło dać efekt zrozumienia i szacunku dla autora, nawet w przypadku braku zgody z jego poglądami.

The Children’s Room. The intrusive dialogues behind the scenes of the puppet theatre are bitter sarcasm, directed at both the reader of the drama and the author himself. The reader, immersed in the reading, becomes one of the author-hero’s playthings, who observes the course of erotic fantasies that, let us repeat, happen ‚behind the scenes’. Sexuality is an intrusive force that organises and influences a person’s life and feelings. It clutters his head. „Intrusive thoughts. On Emil Zegadłowicz’s The Children’s Room” is an interpretation of the work, with particular attention paid to the way eroticism functions in it, „sexual obsessions” and the introduction of the poetics of scandal.
"Pokój dziecinny" to gorzki sarkazm, skierowany zarówno do czytelnika dramatu, jak i do samego autora. Czytelnik pogrążony w lekturze staje się jedną z zabawek autora-bohatera, obserwującego fantazje erotyczne, które dzieją się „za kulisami”. Seksualność to natrętna siła, która organizuje życie i uczucia danej osoby oraz wpływa na nią. Zaśmieca mu głowę. "Natrętne myśli" nad „Pokojem dziecinnym” Emila Zegadłowicza to interpretacja dzieła, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem sposobu, w jaki funkcjonuje w nim erotyka, „obsesje seksualne” i wprowadzenie poetyki skandalu.

Artykuł przedstawia wyniki badania funkcjonalności Komputerowego Katalogu Zbiorów Bibliotek Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego. Podstawę artykuły stanowi analiza badania ankietowego przeprowadzonego w lutym 2014 roku wśród użytkowników Komputerowego Katalogu Zbiorów Bibliotek Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego. Ankieta była anonimowa i dostępna online ze strony głównej Biblioteki Jagiellońskiej oraz bezpośrednio ze strony Komputerowego Katalogu Zbiorów Bibliotek Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego . Obszar badania obejmował: stronę WWW Komputerowego Katalogu Zbiorów Bibliotek Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego, poszczególne funkcje Komputerowego Katalogu Zbiorów Bibliotek Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego, umieszczone na stronie instrukcje i informacje dla czytelników, a dotyczące Komputerowego Katalogu Zbiorów Bibliotek Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego. Badania objęły również ocenę kompetencji i życzliwości personelu Biblioteki Jagiellońskiej, głównie pracowników Katalogu. Rezultatem badań jest ustalenie wskaźnika satysfakcji użytkowników z Komputerowego Katalogu Zbiorów Bibliotek Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego w całości i dla poszczególnych jego funkcji, a także ustalenie preferencji użytkowników w wyborze poszczególnych usług przez określenie częstotliwości korzystania z danej usługi.
This article presents the results of the survey of the functioning of the Computer Catalogue of the JU Libraries Collections which was performed in February 2014 among the users of that Catalogue. This survey was anonymous and available online directly from the website of the Computer Catalogue of the JU Libraries Collections. It covered the website of the Computer Catalogue of the JU Libraries Collections, particular functions of that catalogue, as well as the information and instructions for the readers which were available on the website of the Jagiellonian Library and concerned the Computer Catalogue of the JU Libraries Collections. It also included the evaluation of the competence and friendliness of the staff of the Library, mainly the staff of the Catalogue. The survey resulted in calculating the rate of user satisfaction both with the Computer Catalogue of the JU Libraries Collections as a whole as well as with its particular functions. Thanks to the statistical tool for the frequency of service usage, it also revealed the preferences of the users as regards choosing particular services.

The purpose of the article is to locate liberature within a greater historical and theoretical framework, and to propose an understanding of liberature as a genre. For many years, materiality of literature has been excluded from literary studies, finding its shelter either in library and information studies or among editors. Recently, this tendency has been changing rapidly, as the variety of studies and theories on electronic literacy, new media literacy or the visual aspects of widely recognised works do not cease to prove. Liberature is no exception in this matter. It is argued that the increasing interest in liberature, along with its reception, provides a fertile ground for reading it as an independent genre. With this assumption in mind, the very notion of genre should no longer be perceived as a fixed collection of bounding rules and categorising devices, but rather as the dialogic and creative space aiming at influencing and referring to other texts. In this sense, such a position of liberature, already recognised in Polish literary criticism, might genuinely serve its predominant purpose to explore the refreshing and effective methods of reading, which apply- but are not limited-to the germinating liberary tradition. In fact, they may stimulate new interpretations of diverse preceding texts, whose both materiality and visuality have been repressed.
Celem niniejszego artykułu jest ulokowanie liberatury w szerszej perspektywie historycznej i teoretycznej oraz zaproponowanie jej rozumienia jako gatunku. Przez wiele lat, materialność literatury nie była pełnoprawnym przedmiotem badań literackich, znajdując schronienie jedynie w bibliotekoznastwie, badaniach nad informacjami, czy znajdując zainteresowanie u redaktorów. W ostatnim czasie, ten trend uległ gwałtownym przemianom, głownie dzięki licznym teoriom elektronicznej literackości, literackości nowomedialnej czy wizualnych aspektów dzieł literackich, a także licznym studiom badawczym traktującym o powyższych tematach. Liberatura nie jest w tej kwestii wyjątkiem. Rosnące zainteresowanie nią i jej repcja dostarczają obiecującej przestrzeni czytania jej jako samodzielnego gatunku. Podążając za takim założeniem, musimy jednak przemyśleć kategorię gatunku na nowo, nie jako zbiór wiążąchych reguł i porządkujących kategorii, a raczej jako dialogiczną i twórczą sferę wpływów i odniesień do innych teekstów. Tym smym, liberatura, zauważona poprzez polską krytykę literacką, może służyć swojemu najistotniejszemu celowi: odkrywania odświeżających i efektywnych metod czytelnicznych, które obejmują tradycję liberacką (choć nie tylko ją). W gruncie rzeczy, mogą one stymulować nowe interpretacje licznych, już istniejących tekstów, których aspekty wizualne i materialne były dotychczas niezauważalne.

The article discusses the stereotype of road novel in Québec in the 21st century, exemplified by François Blais’s sixth novel entitled Document 1 published in 2012. Blais’s novel appears different from the typical road novels by playing with the genre’s codes in order to create something altogether new. The aim of the article is to shed light on the character development, the representations of place and the journey itself presented in the novel.

Opis:
This article proposes to read Iwaszkiewicz’s story titled Sérénité with more suspicion than it has been done in a traditional, usually enthusiastic reception of this prose. Firstly, the text presents typical approaches to interpretation. The main part of the article suggests certain textual qualities which may cause feel “discomfort” in the modern reader. According to the author of the paper, there is something anachronistic in the story. The story was written a long time ago and therefore the style of narration, the elements of camouflage and sophisticated tricks may seem inappropriate for such a serious subject as death. Also, the construction of the narrator and hero who is always passive, unwilling to act and focused on his inner life may today seem irritatingly anachronistic, oldfashioned and incomprehensible. These arguments are used to show that a critical analysis of the novel, due to new readers’ awareness, can surprisingly lead to interesting questions and open new paths of interpretation.
