Opis:
Tree-dimensional sea space visualization become increasingly form of ship's environment presentation in maritime navigation systems. Sonograms and echograms for instance, should create underwater space in 3D because the object (or submerge unit) accurate localization in 2D is impossible between sea bottom and surface. For surface navigation 3D vector charts can be observed mostly in combat systems or ship's bridge simulators for some years. This article presents 3D radar screen visualization possibilities for navigation radar.

Opis:
In this paper, a DSP based computer system for FM-CW radar applications is described. Besides data acquisition and storage, the computer system will also be used for front-end data processing and system control. Processing includes filtering and clutter suppression. The radar for which the computer is designed is a multi parameter atmospheric profiler capable of doing Doppler and polarimetric measurements. The computer system will allow for a measurement of the full polarimetric scattering matrix over 512 range cells and 512 Doppler cells in 2 s. Radar system control includes the timing and the settings of the radar system together with linearity correction of the sweep oscillator.

Opis:
This article presents an important task of classification, i.e. mapping surfaces which separate patterns in feature space in the scope of radar emitter recognition (RER) and classification. Assigning a tested radar to a particular class is based on defining its location from the discriminating areas. In order to carry out the classification process, it is necessary to define metrics in the feature space as it is essential to estimate the distance of a classified radar from the centre of the class. The method presented in this article is based on extraction and selection of distinctive features, which can be received in the process of specific emitter identification (SEI) of radar signals, and on the minimum distance classification. The author suggests a RER system which consists of a few independent channels. The task of each channel is to calculate the distance of the tested radar from a given class and finally, set the correct identification coefficient for each recognized radar. Thus, a multichannel system with independent distance measurement is obtained, which makes it possible to recognize particular radar copies. This system is implemented in electronic intelligence (ELINT) system and tested in real battlefield conditions.

Opis:
According to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) recommendation, when the target data from the automatic identification system (AIS) and radar tracking are both available and the association criteria are fulfilled such that the AIS and radar information are considered for one physical target, then as a default condition of radar equipment, the AIS target symbol and the alphanumerical AIS target data, including information on the closest point of approach (CPA) and time needed to reach the CPA (TCPA) should be automatically selected and displayed as this is more accurate than radar tracking data as the current values of true and relative vectors of a manoeuvring object can be presented without time delay which is characteristic for radar tracking. Research conducted at sea on two ships using real navigational equipment has shown that sometimes onboard AIS presents CPA of other vessels equipped with this device as unstable and inaccurate as the automatic radar plotting aid (ARPA). The source of these instabilities and inaccuracies is to be discovered and thus implemented into radar-navigational simulators used for radar training at operational and management levels. This article briefly describes the encountered inaccuracy and instability of the values of the CPA of the encountered vessel presented by AIS, on current shipboard systems, and the possibilities of their demonstration on simulation devices.

Opis:
The TIGER-3 radar is being developed as an “all digital” radar with 20 integrated digital transceivers, each connected to a separate antenna. Using phased array antenna techniques, radiated power is steered towards a desired direction based on the relative phases within the array elements. This paper proposes an accurate phase measurement method to calibrate the phases of the radio output signals using Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technology. The method sequentially measures the phase offset between the RF signal generated by each transceiver and a reference signal operated at the same frequency. Accordingly, the transceiver adjusts its phase in order to align to the reference phase. This results in accurately aligned phases of the RF output signals and with the further addition of appropriate phase offsets, digital beamforming (DBF) can be performed steering the beam in a desired direction. The proposed method is implemented on a Virtex-5 VFX70T device. Experimental results show that the calibration accuracy is of 0.153 degrees with 14 MHz operating frequency.

Opis:
The dynamic development of microelectronics and wireless communication at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries contributed to the increase in the availability and popularity of all kinds of unmanned platforms, air, land, surface, and underwater. In the case of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), also popularly known as drones, the significant (crucial) advantages are high freedom of motion (i.e., the ability to move in three planes) and the possibility of using it practically anywhere (as opposed to water platforms). These factors influenced the dynamic development of this market sector and the high availability of various models and equipment. UAVs are being used in many sectors and services, both for civil and military purposes. Widespread availability, low cost, and ease of use also favor the possibility of using civilian UAVs for criminal, smuggling, terrorist, or military purposes. Recent armed conflicts, e.g., in Nagorno-Karabakh or Ukraine, and the situation on the eastern Polish-Belarusian border clearly show this. All countries recognize the potential and threat posed by the development of unmanned platforms. Therefore, for several years, special attention has been paid to analyses and research in sensors, effectors, and anti-drone systems. It is worth emphasizing that some effectors (e.g., jammers or spoofers) may significantly affect the navigation process of neighboring objects that use global navigation satellite systems (GNSSs). On the other hand, the use of anti-drone systems is important, especially in the context of protecting institutions and facilities of companies, state administration (i.a., embassies, consulates), army, strategic importance objects (e.g., related to energy, chemical industry), or protection of mass events. In this paper, we present an overview of solutions available on the market and development directions in the field of anti-drone technology.

In this article the author makes an attempt to characterize the factors which are to be taken into consideration while designing the ground radar component of Air Defense systems, in order to enable them to operate on the modern battlefield. He presents the latest theoretical views on the relationship between the usage of anti-radar weapons and the organizational and technical defense mechanisms which can be deployed against such weapons. In particular the author emphasizes the protection of radars against anti-radiation missiles (ARMs) which present the biggest threat for effective Air Defense systems. He also stresses the need to combine radars into one system which enables the streamlining of their work parameters and thus ensuring their complex usage. The gaining of those capabilities will guarantee that the parameters of the air surveillance radar zone can be defined effectively.

This study focuses on the investigation of available surface currents and wind parameters for employing them in order to predict the survivor movement in the Szczecin Lagoon waters. For this purpose, the surface currents and wind parameters were generated by selected numerical models and the wind parameters were also measured with the telemetry devices. In this paper, the PM3D hydrodynamic model and the NEMS, ECMWF, GFS weather forecast models have been investigated. The measurements of the wind parameters, recorded at the Brama Torowa I and Trzebież stations, were also analyzed. As part of the research, an expert method was used to evaluate the surface currents parameters. In turn, the method based on comparing the forecasted wind parameters with the measured wind parameters was applied in order to assess uncertainties of these parameters. The comparative analyses of the data on the surface currents and wind parameters have been done and probabilistic models for uncertainties of these forecasted parameters have been formulated. Additionally, relations between the surface currents speeds and the wind speeds, in the case when their directions were consistent, have been also discovered.

The second part of thesis is more focused to civil and army passive radar and meteorological technology. The main topic is: how to build up the new radar network by using passive radar technology and what are the advantages and disadvantages of this concept, in comparison with actual primary and secondary radar network. I have chosen Slovak Republic for new network planning but this theory and research is applicable for all the other countries, with some minor changes. This topic is focused mainly to advantages of passive surveillance system and multilateration.
