    Opis:
    The presented study deals with the oldest Christian depiction of a phoenix found in the Catacombs of Priscilla in Rome. Since catacomb art is a narrative depiction of biblical stories, it is important to incorporate the motive of phoenix into historical context. The study performs analysis and comparison the links and connections of the phoenix symbol in pagan and Christian thought. As Christian iconography is associated with allegorical symbols, the intention is to anticipate the meaning, origin and etymology of the phoenix symbol. The article therefore summarizes how the symbol and position of the phoenix found in the catacombs evolved from Egyptian myths through Greek and Roman culture to the transformation in Christian literature and Christian thought, especially in the Gospel of John, which connects the symbol of the phoenix with the palm and Lazarus.

    Let $H_1$ be the three-dimensional Heisenberg group. Consider the left invariant differential operators of the form D=P(-iT,-L), where P is a polynomial in two variables with complex coefficients, L is the sublaplacian on $H_1$ and T is the derivative with respect to the central direction. We find a fundamental solution of D, whose definition is related to the way the plane curve defined by P(x,y)=0 intersects the Heisenberg fan F = A ∪ B, A = {(x,y)∈ ℝ^2: y=(2m+1)|x|, m ∈ ℕ, B= {(x,y) ∈ ℝ^2: x=0, y<0}. We can write an explicit expression of such a fundamental solution when the curve P(x,y)=0 intersects F at finitely many points, all belonging to A and, if one of them is the origin, the monomial $y^k$ has a nonzero coefficient, where k is the order of zero at the origin. As a consequence, such operators are globally solvable on $H_1$.

    Clothing Construction, an integral part of Home Economics is concerned with imparting in students skills in drafting, adaption and sewing of different garments and accessories. These skills which are taught in a laboratory equipped with equipment and tools which do pose sources of danger to those involved in the laboratory activities when not properly handled. This study was therefore designed to identify safety practices that should be adopted by users of this laboratory. Specifically, the study sought to identify the ideal safety practices important for adoption and also, the safety practices presently adopted in this laboratory by its users. A descriptive survey design was used for the study. Structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The data collected was analyzed using mean. Twenty-one safety practices ideal for adoption, 18 safety practices were presently adopted and 17 safety practices required for adoption were identified. Based on the findings, the authors recommended that those 17 safety practices should be enforced and the users encouraged to adhere to the safety practices for their good. The adoption of these safety practices will enable the users work in a safe and conducive environment which will enhance learning of clothing construction skills.

    One of the crucial stages of the Apostle Paul’s ministry was his stay at Ephesus. However, considering the fact that the reliability of some data in the Acts of the Apostles on the time of Paul’s arrival to Ephesus is nowadays frequently put into question, it has become necessary to investigate the issue. In the present article the author assesses the relevant source material and takes a stand on the particular opinions of contemporary interpreters of the subject. Based on an analysis of the text of the Acts of the Apostles he is led to conclude that Luke’s account of Paul’s first short visit to Ephesus reveals traits of historicity.

    On January 25, 2020, Pope Francis received an annual audience of judges and other employees of the Roman Rota in connection with the inauguration of the new judicial year. After the speech of the dean mentioned, the Holy Father gave an occasional allocation. This time, the subjects of the papal speech departed from the traditional problems associated with strictly canonist issues, most often referring to specific titles of marriage annulment or tasks of a judge in a marriage annulment process. The Holy Father took up the topic of a more pastoral nature, concerning the need to shape spiritually mature Christian spouses who would support pastors in the work of evangelizing the family. The „heroes” of Francis allocation are the extraordinary spouses of the ancient Church era: Aquila and Priscilla, faithful companions of Saint. Paul the Apostle, constituting an exemplary marriage couple. Francis fervent desire to mobilize priests to be close to their spouses and to „search” for married couples who would be ready to engage in family ministry. Both tasks should be considered very important in the field of this pastoral work.

    The missionary activity of the early Church is mainly presented in Acts and Letters by St Paul. It was not only a domain of Apostles, missionaries and itinerant preachers, but also actively involved married couples. The couples worth mentioning are: Apostles and their spouses, married couples listed in Romans 16 and Philemon, and first of all Aquila and Priscilla who devoted their whole life to the service of the Gospel.
    Działalność misyjna pierwotnego Kościoła ukazana została przede wszystkim w Dziejach Apostolskich i w listach świętego Pawła. Prowadzili ją nie tylko apostołowie, misjonarze czy wędrowni nauczyciele, ale aktywnie włączały się w nią także pary małżeńskie. Wymienić należy najpierw tu małżeństwa apostołów, pary małżeńskie wymienione w Rz 16 i Flm, a przede wszystkim Akwilę i Pryscyllę, którzy całe swoje życie poświęcili służbie Ewangelii.

    Autor w niniejszym artykule omawia funkcjonowanie parafii dwujęzycznej angielsko-polskiej w rzeczywistości Kościoła katolickiego w Stanach Zjednoczonych, gdzie takie rozwiązanie jest bardzo popularne. Główny ciężar duszpasterstwa w językach obcych przesunięto z parafii etnicznych do parafii wielojęzycznych. Taką jest właśnie parafia św. Pryscylli w Chicago, która w swojej historii przechodziła już kilka przemian pod względem etnicznym. Na jej przykładzie autor ukazuje, jak obecnie wyglądają życie liturgiczne, struktura ludnościowa i kwestia przynależności, działanie rady duszpasterskiej do spraw ekonomicznych i życie duszpasterskie. Te elementy zaprezentowano ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem aspektu używania dwóch języków przez dwie różne grupy etniczne. Przedstawiono również kwestie relacji pomiędzy parafianami posługującymi się językiem angielskim i językiem polskim.
    In this article, the author discusses the functioning of the English-Polish bilingual parish in the reality of the Catholic Church in the United States, where such an arrangement is very popular. The main burden of pastoral care in foreign languages has shifted from ethnic parishes to multilingual parishes. As an illustrative example of such a parish, the author provides St Priscilla Parish in Chicago; it has already undergone several ethnic transformations in its history and, therefore, can offer an insight into the liturgical life, the population structure and the question of affiliation as well as the operation of the pastoral council for economic matters and pastoral life. These aspects are presented with a particular focus on the use of two languages by two different ethnic groups. Selected issues concerning the relationship between English-speaking and Polish-speaking parishioners were also addressed.

    The Stormberg Group comprises the Molteno, Elliot and Clarens formations and is one of four stratigraphical groups that make up the Karoo Supergroup in South Africa. The group is the highest unit in the Karoo Basin, representing the final phase of preserved sedimentation. The major problem with the Stromberg Group is that the mode of transport, hydrodynamic energy conditions and depositional environment are still poorly understood. For the present paper, grain size and lithofacies studies on selected sandstones from the Molteno, Elliot and Clarens formations were performed so as to elucidate their textural characteristics, depositional processes, sedimentation mechanisms and hydrodynamic energy conditions and to discriminate different depositional environments. The statistical parameters of grain size distribution (mean grain size, standard deviation, skewness and kurtosis) show that the sandstones are predominantly unimodal, fine grained, moderately well sorted, mesokurtic and near symmetrical. The bivariate diagrams of the aforementioned statistical parameters demonstrate that river and aeolian dune had the greatest impact on the depositional environments. Likewise, the C-M pattern (Passega diagram) shows that the sandstones were mostly deposited through tractive current process. Furthermore, the C-M diagram reveals the prevalence of rolling, suspension and graded suspension modes of sediment transportation. Seventeen sedimentary lithofacies were identified and grouped into seven lithofacies associations. These lithofacies associations indicate braided channel, overbank and swamp deposits for the Molteno Formation, alluvial fan/floodplain and playa deposits for the Elliot Formation and aeolian deposits for the Clarens Formation.

    Martyrium Polycarpi 4, 1 opowiada o samowydaniu się w ręce pogańskich prześladowców niedoszłego męczennika Kwintusa, który na widok zwierząt załamał się i złożył pogańską ofiarę. Od dawna uczeni dostrzegali, że słowa, za pomocą których autor Martyrium Polycarpi wprowadził postać Kwintusa, stanowią prawdopodobne nawiązanie do Dziejów Apostolskich 18, 2, gdzie wprowadzona zostaje postać żyda Akwili. Niniejszy artykuł jest propozycją takiej interpretacji tego nawiązania, która z jednej strony potwierdza opinię wielu uczonych (wśród nich G. Buchmanna), że Kwintus jest w Martyrium Polycarpi 4, 1 przedstawiony jako montanista, z drugiej zaś sugeruje, iż w postaci Kwintusa mamy ponadto do czynienia z typem samego herezjarchy Montana.
