From a sample of 75,854 Slovenian firms in the period 1995-2011, we examine the effects of a firm's access to bank credit on its growth. The results suggest that as the external financing constraint relaxes and firm gets access to credit, the reliance on internal funds to finance growth decreases. By exploring the role of available collateral in gaining access to bank credit, we find that collateral only helps larger firms to obtain credit more easily. On the other hand, collateral does not reduce micro firms' dependence on internal funds to finance growth, which suggests that even if they have collateral, banks are still unprepared to finance them, possibly due to the level of risk. It could also be that in approving credit to micro firms, other factors such as liquidity or cash flow are more highly considered by banks than the value of collateral.

The private Polish elementary school in Lupeni was founded in 1929 based on the Romanian Private Learning Act of 1925 permitting the organisation of minority schools. It was created in a magyarised and romanised environment and dealt with the education of Polish miners’ children. Wilhelm Zöller became the organiser and the first teacher of the school on behalf of the Polish School Motherland in Romania. After two years of operation, the school came under the patronage of the Polish School Association in Romania. Under his tutelage in the 1936/1937 school year, the school became public and its rank in the local community increased. It was also active during the World War II. With the consent of the Romanian Minister of Education, in 1946 it became a Polish public school consisting of 7 classes. It was supported by the “Polish House in Romania” Association. This school was the only Polish school in Transylvania that existed the longest in this part of Romania. When the Polish miners and teachers left Poland in 1948, the school was liquidated.

An international scientific conference on ”Art Nouveau Stained Glass. Tendencies and Motifs” was held on 13-15 May 2009 by the Association of Lovers of Stained Glass ”Ars Vitrea Polona” and the Historical Museum of Łódź. The event gathered experts and lovers of stained glass from many parts of Poland, representing assorted institutions, as well as Ukrainian researchers. The majority of the papers dealt with stained glass found or executed in leading centres of the Polish Art Nouveau, including Kraków, Lviv, Łódź and Silesia. A presentation of factographic findings was accompanied by essential reflections about conservation. The programme of the meeting was enhanced by a tour along the trails of Łódź stained glass and a suitable exhibition featured at the Historical Museum of Łódź. A publication of the post-conference material would be an important summary of the achievements of these remarkable debates.

Sudden cardiac arrest is the most common single cause of death in the contemporary world, but the proportion of survivors is increasing thanks to modern intensive methods of hospital treatment. However, data show that survivors experience high rates of neurological and cognitive deficits and poorer emotional well-being, which is a major challenge in treating these individuals and encouraging their integration in everyday life. These issues range from a number of emotional problems, such as anxiety and depression, to lower levels of participation in social life and a low rate of return to their workplace. The need for security and support increases because of the feelings of insecurity, vulnerability and fear of the recurrence of symptoms. Relatives/caregivers who report emotional problems and a higher level of post-traumatic stress are physically and mentally burdened, too. Hence, sudden cardiac arrest is a life-threatening event which is traumatic for survivors and their close relatives. It triggers strong emotional responses that are characteristic of all types of trauma (reliving the trauma, avoidance, negative thoughts and mood, increased agitation). People who have survived trauma thus suffer long-term effects, which are reflected in various dysfunctional behaviours and activities due to inadequate regulation of affective states. Because of these issues, there is a need for effective interventions that can psychologically help patients and relatives after surviving sudden cardiac arrest. In this paper, we will present the model of Relational Family Therapy, which can enable survivors and their relatives to appropriately emotionally-affectively process this experience and thus more appropriately integrate into a new way of life. With the qualitative research method of task analysis, we will show the process of change, which is based on the establishment of a new regulation of affect and allows in-depth processing of difficult emotional states after this event.

L’articolo esamina il corpus di araldica studentesca riguardante la Natio Polona allo Studium di Padova, in particolar modo gli stemmi miniati nel volume del registro della Nazione (1592 [ma 1605] – 1745) – dal punto di vista della struttura di queste rappresentazioni, delle insegne ufficiali e dei sostegni o tenenti che vi compaiono (per la maggior parti allegorie di virtù o figure tratte dalla mitologia greco-romana) e del significato che essi, insieme alle massime e ai motti che incorniciano le singole miniature, trasmettono, confrontando tutto ciò con la documentazione prodotta dalle due Nationes Germanicae dei Giuristi (1545–1609, 1650–1709) e degli artisti (1553–1769) e dalla Natio Ultramarina (ovvero greca: 1656–1737). Si potrà quindi osservare che, nella dialettica tra afflato religioso e ispirazione classica che ne emerge, la vera dimensione in cui il primo è messo in pratica è la difesa culturale e militare del cristianesimo, sussunta dal tema della virtus pervasivamente illustrato dai motti e dalle figure che rinviano al secondo.
The paper examines the corpus of student heraldry relating to the Natio Polona at the Studium of Padua – in particular the illuminated coats of arms in the volumes of the National register (1592 (but 1605)–1745) – from the point of view of the structure of these representations, of the official insignia and the supporters or attendants that appear there (mostly allegories of virtues or figures taken from Greco-Roman mythology) and of the meanings that they, together with the maxims and watchwords that frame the individual miniatures, convey, comparing it with the analogous documentation produced by the two Nationes Germanicae of Jurists (1545–1609, 1650–1709) and Artists (1553–1769) and by the Natio Ultramarina (i.e. Greek: 1656–1737). It will thus be observed that, in the dialectic between religious afflatus and classical inspiration that emerges from it, the true dimension in which the former is implemented is the cultural and military defense of Christianity, subsumed by the theme of virtus pervasively illustrated by the mottos and figures that refer to the second.

Praktyka posługiwania się tekstem literackim jako materiałem dydaktycznym w procesie nauczania języka obcego ma długą tradycję. Istotną rolę w kształceniu językowym odgrywają, obok podręczników, teksty historyczne, literackie czy publicystyczne, które w atrakcyjny i przystępny sposób ilustrują polską rzeczywistość i przedstawiają problematykę językową. Autorka niniejszego artykułu wychodzi zatem z założenia, że wykorzystanie potencjału dydaktycznego i funkcjonalnego tekstu literackiego na lekcjach języka polskiego jako obcego nie tylko przyczynia się do urozmaicenia czynności dydaktycznych poprzez rozbudzanie i pielęgnowanie zainteresowania poznawanym językiem i kulturą, lecz także usprawnia proces uczenia się i zaciekawia uczniów specyficznie polskimi zjawiskami kulturowymi. Oprócz walorów estetycznych tekst literacki oferuje wyraziste obrazy społeczeństwa, mentalności oraz duchowości Polaków na przestrzeni wieków. Stanowi przy tym – ze względu na proponowane odszyfrowanie i interpretację kodów społeczno-kulturowych, symboli etniczno-narodowych lub tożsamościowych – nieocenione źródło wiedzy o istocie polskości. Korzystanie z przekładów wybranych utworów literackich z dziedzictwa kultury polskiej znacznie wzbogaca i uzupełnia akt uczenia się. Celem artykułu jest wskazanie, jakie elementy polskiej kultury rumuńscy studenci odnajdują w opowiadaniu Olgi Tokarczuk Zielone dzieci, czyli Opis dziwnych zdarzeń naWołyniusporządzony przez medyka Jego Królewskiej Mości Jana Kazimierza, Williama Davissona z tomu pt. Historie bizarne. Narracyjne uniwersum Tokarczuk zamieszkują często postaci realne, jednostki szczególne, które istniały kiedyś w rzeczywistości, pogrążone w cieniu zapomnienia, ale niezwykłe za życia. Pisarka wyciąga je z kosza historii, reinterpretuje, daje szansę na nowe istnienie, a przede wszystkim udziela im głosu, przywracając ich tym samym współczesności. W Księgach Jakubowych odkrywamy na nowo m.in. braci biskupów Załuskich – Józefa Andrzeja (bibliofila i bibliografa) i Andrzeja Stanisława (mecenasa sztuki) – Benedykta Chmielowskiego (pierwszego polskiego encyklopedystę) i barokową poetkę Elżbietę Drużbacką. Z kolei pojawiający się w Zielonych dzieciach William Davidson był szkockim lekarzem, chemikiem i biologiem – to jego oczami poznajemy polityczną, społeczną i kulturową rzeczywistość tamtych czasów. Dzięki tej postaci z tekstu opowiadania możemy wydobyć i omówić elementy staropolskiej kultury i cywilizacji, takie jak: sytuacja na arenie politycznej, wewnętrzne napięcia między królem a szlachtą, relacje między centrum a peryferiami czy między „Ja” a „Innym”, ciekawe zjawisko kołtuna oraz echa ideologii sarmackiej.
The practice of using literary texts as auxiliary teaching materials in the process of teaching a foreign language has a long tradition. Culture texts can illustrate Polish reality and present linguistic issues in an attractive and accessible way. Therefore, this paper assumes that the use of the didactic and functional potential of a literary text during the classes of Polish as a foreign language contributes not only to diversification of the didactic activity by awakening and cultivating interest in the language and culture being learned, but also to improvement of the learning process. It also stimulates the interest of students in specific Polish cultural phenomena. In addition to aesthetic values, the literary text offers expressive images of the Polish society, mentality and spirituality over the centuries, being an invaluable source of knowledge about the essence of Poland through the decoding and interpretation of socio-cultural codes and ethno-national or identity symbols. The aim of the paper is to discover what elements of Polish culture and civilization are found by Romanian students in the short story Green Children by Olga Tokarczuk. The narrative universe of Olga Tokarczuk is often inhabited by real characters, special individuals who existed in reality at some point, covered by oblivion, but being unusual during their lifetime. Olga Tokarczuk brings them out of the basket of history, reinterprets them, gives them a chance for a new life, and, above all, gives them a voice, thus bringing them back to the present day. In the Books of Jacob, we rediscover, among other people, Józef Andrzej Załuski (bibliophile and bibliographer), Andrzej Stanisław Załuski (patron of the arts), Benedykt Chmielowski (the first Polish encyclopedist) and Elżbieta Drużbacka (the baroque poet). In Green Children, William Davidson was a Scottish physician, chemist, and biologist. Through his eyes, we discover the political, social, and cultural realities of those times. Through Davidson, we can draw out and discuss the elements of old Polish culture and civilization, such as the situation in the political arena, internal tensions between the king and the gentry, the relationships between such concepts as center and periphery or between “I” and “the other”, the interesting phenomenon of plica polonica, or echoes of Sarmatian ideology.

The article deals with the first burial in the tomb crypt built under the altar of the natio polona in the Basilica of St. Anthony in Padua. Stanisław Miński, a Polish state dignitary and diplomat who was passing through Padua on his way from Naples, was the one buried here. The tombstone, removed only in the first half of the 20th century, contained information about the laying of Miński’s body to rest in the place where church services associated with Poland and Poles were performed. For over three centuries, the tomb attracted the attention of pilgrims from Poland coming to Padua, reminding them not only of the outstanding Polish diplomat, but also of the natio polona, which, in the 16th and early-17th centuries, constituted a large and distinctive group of ultramontani, that is, those who came from beyond the mountains, most of whom had come to study at the flourishing university. In the article, little-known documents concerning the burial are gathered; these documents are kept in the Paduan archives and had been collected by the clergy and secular administration of the Basilica. Via the analysis of these documents, the cultural context in which the decision against bringing Miński’s body to Poland is reconstructed. The role of the institution, constituted by the administration of St. Anthony’s Basilica operating under the name of Veneranda Arca di Sant’Antonio, which grants permission to lay the body in the Basilica, is also established.
L’articolo affronta la questione della prima sepoltura nella cripta funebre, realizzata sotto l’altare della natio polona nella Basilica di Sant’Antonio a Padova. Tale sepoltura riguardava Stanisław Miński, dignitario di stato polacco e diplomatico, che passò da Padova diretto a Napoli. Dell’inumazione del corpo di Miński nel luogo di celebrazione liturgica del santuario associato alla Polonia ed ai polacchi informava una lapide, rimossa solo alla metà del XX secolo. Per oltre tre secoli essa attirò l’attenzione soprattutto dei pellegrini polacchi giunti a Padova, ricordando non solo la figura del grande diplomatico polacco, ma anche la natio polona, che nel secolo XVI e agli inizi del XVII costituiva in città un gruppo numeroso e particolare di oltremontani, in gran parte legati agli studi compiuti nel periodo d’oro dell’università. Nell’articolo sono riportati documenti scarsamente noti concernenti la sepoltura, conservati negli archivi padovani, redatti dall’amministrazione religiosa e da quella della basilica. Grazie alla loro analisi, è stato ricostruito il contesto culturale nel quale fu deciso di rinunciare al trasporto della salma di Miński in Polonia. Si è altresì sottolineato il ruolo svolto dall’istituzione cerata dall’amministrazione della Basilica di Sant’Antonio, operante con il nome di Veneranda Arca di Sant’Antonio, la quale rilasciava i permessi per l’inumazione delle salme nella basilica.

The interesting question of the stained glass heritage in Poland remains little known. Neither the state of the registration of the monuments nor pertinent knowledge correspond to the actual dimension and value of the resources, with scarce examples of mediaeval stained glass being the best examined. Consecutive generations have been studied only in several centres which, on the one hand, concentrate numerous valuable works and, on the other hand, involve researchers particularly interested in stained glass (Cracow, Wrocław, Toruń, Łodź, Poznań). The sole institution conducting more systematic work on the subject is the ARS VITREA POLONA Association of Lovers of Stained Glass. The article considers briefly consecutive generations of monuments of this category of art: rare and precious mediaeval relics, modern study stained glass, the historicising and eclectic stained glass of the nineteenth century, windows maintained in the Art Nouveau spirit, and the particularly relevant – and stylistically distinct – Young Poland monuments. Finally, the author focused on the protection and conservation of stained glass, indicating the errors frequently committed due to an insufficient appreciation of the technical-artistic uniqueness of this domain of the arts, and expressing her opinion about the sense of embarking upon stained glass projects according to historical cartoons never before executed in glass. The article ends with a discussion of new stained glass in historical objects.

L’importanza del triplice viaggio di Jan Kochanowski a Padova è un tema che è stato più volte affrontato nella letteratura scientifica. I risultati di queste ricerche godono soprattutto dell’interesse di quegli studiosi che si concentrano sull’analisi dei materiali documentari e sulla ricostruzione dell’atmosfera dominante nella città chiamata spesso la rocca di Antenore. Essa conobbe nel XVI secolo il suo massimo splendore, fatto sul quale influì la politica della Repubblica di Venezia, nell’ambito della quale si cercò tra l’altro di fare di questo centro universitario e allo stesso tempo cittadino una riconoscibile meta di viaggi educativi per i giovani provenienti da tutta Europa. Per questi ultimi il contatto con un ambiente dalle alte aspirazioni intellettuali e artistiche era spesso l’inizio di una brillante carriera, sviluppata dopo il ritorno in patria. Il ricordo delle esperienze vissute durante i soggiorni a Padova ha svolto un ruolo di primo piano anche nella formazione dell’ispirazione poetica di Jan Kochanowski, ciò di cui testimoniano molti suoi testi, come ad esempio Satyr albo dziki mąż, Odprawa Posłów greckich, e il ciclo degli epigrammi. In quest’ultimo un luogo particolare è quello del tiglio attorno al quale Kochanowski organizza lo spazio del mondo reale e poetico. L’Autore dell’articolo ricerca tra l’altro le fonti italiane di questo motivo e si sofferma su altre possibili ispirazioni, che attendono analisi più approfondite in ulteriori ricerche, aldilà delle riflessioni sull’italianismo del maestro di Czarnolas.
The significance of Jan Kochanowski’s three trips to Padua has been discussed more than once in the scholarly literature. The results of these findings are especially of interest to those researchers who focus on source material analysis and recognizing the cultural atmosphere prevailing in the city often referred to as “Antenor’s city.” Padua flourished in the 16th century, influenced by the policies of the Republic of Venice, which sought to make this academic and urban center a recognizable educational destination for young men coming from all over Europe. For the latter, entering an environment of high intellectual and artistic aspirations was often the beginning of brilliant careers, developed after returning to their home countries. The memory of the experiences accumulated during Jan Kochanowski’s stay in Padua also played a major role in shaping his poetic imagination, as evidenced by many of his works, such as Satyr albo dziki mąż [Satyr or the Wild Man], Odprawa Posłów greckich [The Dismissal of the Greek Envoys], and a cycle of epigrams. In the latter, the image of a linden tree gained a special place, around which Kochanowski organized the space of the real and the poetic worlds. The author’s aim include a search for any Italian sources for this motif, and ponders other possible inspirations, which might be awaiting deeper analysis in future research, going beyond consideration of Italianism in the works of the master of Czarnolas.

Opis:
W ostatnich latach podejmowane są liczne inicjatywy digitalizacji i udostępniania zasobów materialnego dziedzictwa kulturowego. Procesem digitalizacji zostały objęte także zbiory literatury dla młodego czytelnika. W artykule przedstawiono możliwości dostępu do literatury dla dzieci w dwóch polskich bibliotekach cyfrowych: Cyfrowej Bibliotece Narodowej Polona oraz w serwisie Wolne Lektury, a także w dwóch agregatorach zasobów bibliotek cyfrowych: Europejskiej Bibliotece Cyfrowej Europeana i Federacji Bibliotek Cyfrowych. Zwrócono uwagę na kolekcje zdigitalizowanej literatury dla dzieci, dostępne w Polonie oraz w serwisie Wolne Lektury. Dla porównania na początku artykułu opisano Międzynarodową Bibliotekę Cyfrową dla Dzieci, której zbiory i interfejs w całości przeznaczony jest dla dzieci. Odnaleziona literatura dla dzieci dostępna w bibliotekach cyfrowych pochodzi głównie z XIX i XX w.
Nowadays, numerous digitalization initiatives are undertaken to make physical artifacts of cultural heritage more accessible. Collections of literature for children have been also digitalized. Article presents possibilities of searching for literature for children available at two Polish digital libraries: National Digital Library Polona and Wolne Lektury and two aggregators of electronic collections: European Digital Library Europeana and Polish Digital Library Federation. As an example of making literature for children more accessible the International Children’s Digital Library was presented. Most of found resources for children in digital libraries is dated on XIX and XX century.
