    French lexicographical equivalents of the preposition spod The paper analyses the lexicographical entries devoted to the Polish preposition spod (‘from under’) found in twenty five Polish-French general dictionaries of different sizes published in the 20th and at the beginning of the 21st centuries. A general conclusion from this comparative analyses is that, due to both inappropriate construction of these entries and significant gaps in the inventory of equivalents and in their exemplification, none of the consulted dictionaries makes it possible for Polish native speakers to select the correct French equivalent(s) of the preposition spod in a given type of context.

    The first part of the article deals with the function of the examples in bilingual dictionaries, compared to their function in monolingual ones. First, it is argued that examples in an active bilingual dictionary should principally exemplify the use of the headword’s translation equivalents rather than the headword itself, as it is in the case of monolingual dictionaries. Then a survey is made dealing with examples selected from all simple preposition entries in a recent Polish-French dictionary, taking into consideration both the structure and the function of these examples. The general conclusion is that in the investigated entries exemplifi cation fails seriously enough to make it impossible for users to choose the appropriate equivalent of a particular preposition.

    In French, there exists a kind of infinitive subordinate clause (ICP) introduced by a perception verb like voir, regarder, entendre, écouter and sentir. These structures, composed of a noun phrase and an infinitive verb, do not exist in Polish. This anisomorphism implies difficulties of translation and bilingual dictionaries are one of the potential sources of knowledge about the ways of translating the ICP structures into Polish. We analysed the articles of the five French perception verbs from several contemporary French-Polish dictionaries in order to verify how their authors deal with the lexicographic treatment of the ICP. The general conclusion is that the investigated structure is usually not given in all five perception verb entries of the same dictionary, and the choice of these entries seems to be random. What is more, in most of them, we only found set expressions containing the ICP clause and not free phrases. Frequently, the latter simply appear among examples of the use of the verb headword. Concerning the Polish equivalents, their choice is random too and it happens that the most frequent of them, the jak P (“as P”) structure, is not given. Thus, the microstructure of the analysed entries needs to be improved.

    POLSKIE I FRANCUSKIE PREDYKATY ZWIĄZANE Z ETAPAMI WYPIEKU CHLEBA ORAZ ICH ZASTOSOWANIE W ANALIZIE DWUJĘZYCZNYCH TEKSTÓW PORÓWNYWALNYCH Teksty porównywalne są reprezentatywne dla różnych dziedzin rzemiosła. Wobec zapotrzebowania na dwujęzyczne słowniki z tych  dziedzin w kształceniu specjalistów, zaproponowana została w tym artykule metoda analizy na przykładzie polskich i francuskich tekstów z dziedziny piekarstwa. Celem tej analizy jest ustalenie jednostek ekwiwalentnych, które będą zastosowane w językoznawstwie komputerowym na potrzeby w zakresie tłumaczeń, analiz kontrastywnych oraz tworzenia słowników polsko-francuskich. W pierwszej części wyjaśnione są jednostki ekwiwalentne stosowane w językoznawstwie komputerowym, a w następnych koncepcja skryptu poznawczego, ram konceptualnych oraz predykatów zastosowana do ekstrakcji jednostek leksykalnych oraz określenia ich relacji znaczeniowych (meronimia i hiponimia). Prédicats polonais et français relatifs aux étapes de la panification et leur application pour analyser des corpus bilingues comparables Les textes bilingues comparables sont représentatifs pour différents domaines de l’artisanat. Pour répondre aux besoins de la rédaction de dictionnaires bilingues pour la formation des professionnels, nous proposons dans cet article une méthode d’analyse à partir de textes polonais et français du domaine de la boulangerie. Le but de cette analyse est d’établir des unités équivalentes qui seront exploitées et appliquées dans le traitement automatique des langues et qui serviront pour la traduction, pour les analyses contrastives et pour la rédaction des dictionnaires polonais-français. Dans la première partie de l’article nous expliquons d’abord les unités équivalentes utilisées dans le traitement automatique de textes comparables. Dans les parties suivantes nous présentons la conception du script cognitif, du cadre conceptuel et des prédicats appliquée pour l’extraction des unités lexicales et pour déterminer les relations significatives entre elles (méronymie et hyponymie).
    Comparable bilingual texts are representative for various fields of handicrafts. To meet the needs of writing bilingual dictionaries for the training of professionals, we propose a method of analysis from the Polish and French texts in the field of bakery. The purpose of this analysis is to establish equivalent units to be operated in the applied natural language processing and used for translation, for contrastive analysis and for drafting Polish-French dictionaries. In the first part of this paper, we explain how equivalent units are used in the automatic processing of comparable texts. In the following sections we present the design of cognitive script, the conceptual framework and predicates applied to the extraction of lexical units and we try to highlight significant relationships between them (meronymy and hyponymy).

    The article presents the diversity and scope difference of Polish and French linguistic terms appearing in works devoted to the language feminization. The author quotes the terms most often used in Polish and French literature on the subject, discusses their scope and tradition of use. Different ways of understanding the concept of feminization are analyzed. The aim of the article is an attempt to organize the terminological chaos faced by researchers who want to conduct contrastive research on multilingual material. The problem encountered in comparative research involves establishing a common scope to which the terms refer and interpreting the differences. The question arises whether Polish and French researchers, when using freely the terms nazwy żeńskie/les formes féminines/féminisation, really mean the same thing. The author tries to answer the question of how to compare Polish and French exponents of femininity, especially for the purposes of quantitative lexicographic research, and whether Polish male lexemes with immobilized inflection should be considered female names in comparative research, analogically to French epicene nouns? Perhaps due to the lack of semantic symmetry between the terms, one study should develop different criteria for the analysis of Polish and French lexical material.

    Polish choronymes in Collection of Kingdoms, Provinces, Capitals, Rivers and Mountains by Józef Uszak Kulikowski (1746)This paper presents the alphabetic Latin-Polish-French dictionary of geographical names entitled Zebranie Krolestw, Prowincyi, Miast stołecznych, Rzek y Gor (Collection of Kingdoms, Provinces, Capitals, Rivers and Mountains), written by Józef Uszak Kulikowski (1746). On the one hand, the onomasticon of Kulikowski continues the type of former vocabularies defining proper names in descriptive forms, but on the other hand, in a certain way, it is in line with the latest trends in the 18th century Western lexicography, incorporating to dictionaries additions in the form of collections of geographical names.The analysis of proper names contained in the Collection has been carried out on the sample of 40 Polish choronymes relating to regions of France. It turned out that Kulikowski used many names already existing in Polish (mostly from the 16th and 17th century). In turn, the adaptation of these names which were absent in Polish and which the author of the Collection attempted to integrate into the system of his native language can be considered quite successful. In this context it is worth to mention such choronymes as Bretanija, Gujenija, Niwernija, Perigordyja, Bigor. Polskojęzyczne choronimy w Zebraniu Krolestw, Prowincyi, Miast stołecznych, Rzek y Gor (1746) Józefa Uszaka KulikowskiegoW artykule omówiono alfabetyczny łacińsko-polsko-francuski słownik geograficznych nazw własnych pt. Zebranie Krolestw, Prowincyi, Miast stołecznych, Rzek y Gor Józefa Uszaka Kulikowskiego (1746). Z jednej strony, onomastykon Kulikowskiego kontynuuje typ dawnych słowników określających nazwy własne w formie deskrypcji, ale z drugiej – w pewien sposób wpisuje się w najnowsze tendencje w XVIII-wiecznej zachodniej leksykografii, polegające na dołączaniu do słowników dodatków w postaci zbiorów geograficznych nazw własnych.Analiza zamieszczonych w Zebraniu nazw własnych została przeprowadzona na przykładzie 40 polskojęzycznych choronimów odnoszących się do regionów Francji i wykazała, że Józef Uszak Kulikowski wykorzystał wiele nazw już w polszczyźnie istniejących (głównie od XVI i XVII w.). Adaptację tych nazw, których wówczas w języku polskim jeszcze nie było, a z którymi zetknął się autor Zebrania Krolestw i które spróbował włączyć do systemu rodzimego języka, należy uznać za dość udaną. Warto w tym kontekście wymienić chociażby takie choronimy jak np. Bretanija, Gujenija, Niwernija, Perigordyja, Bigor.
